So a week ago, 1st time @ Theory & I just wanted some gift cards for Xmas. I had to wait in the coffee line. When I got out of line to ask the cashier if I had to stay in the coffee making line just for gift cards the answer was "yes." So I got back in-line (where I was) & the guy behind says I was cutting in line. I told him my dilemma & he reluctantly let me keep my place, seriously? When I got to the front of the line, I was then booted to the cashier, for gift cards... really? She didn't know how to do it so the only barista helped her w/ everyone in the coffee line glaring @ me. I even bought the snarky guy behind me & his gf their coffee.. it doesn't really pay to be nice..I just hope the gift cards were loaded correctly! read more

Great spot, good food. But prices are very contradictory. $4 for 1 macaron and $8 for avocado toast makes no sense when a breakfast sandwich is and $6 and comes with 2 pieces of bread, plenty of avocado, egg, sprouts, and aioli. If you want avo toast just order that and enjoy the extras for cheaper. Also no compostable cups is extremely disappointing. Coffee shops need to be held responsible in this regard. This is a great coffee shop. We stopped by here on the way to Mt.Shasta. The baristas were super welcoming. The coffee is just amazing. Well balanced flavors. They also have other great drinks like white tea soda and the match strawberry drink. Will definitely go back if we find ourselves in that area again. read more

I originally gave a 4 star review for the beautiful aesthetic, artsy environment, good food and good coffee in an area that used to be riddled with drug addicted homeless people. This business, along with others attached to the same building have breathed new life into that part of downtown that was stagnant for most of my life growing up here. The only thing that wasn't consistent was the customer service I would receive depending on what barista was working. I'd like to update my review and give this locally owned business 5 stars. After reading my original review, I was fortunate enough to speak not only to the owner but also the barista who had heard about my experiences with him. So I'd like to highlight two things. 1) When an owner of an establishment such as this one takes the time to reach out so that he can improve his customer experience, it's because he legitimately cares. 2) When that owner informs that barista that they can do better and said barista walks up to me today and apologizes for past encounters, all is instantly forgiven. And folks, that's how you run a good business and keep a customer for life. read more

One of the most trendy spots on Redding! Coffee is a little more on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for and it is really good coffee. I LOVE their salads especially the cucumber avocado one. I haven't tried more things since they have expanded their menu but I'm excited to try! Really fun atmosphere too. read more

Friendly staff, quality products, and modern ambiance!

Theory was recommended to us while we were passing through Redding on our way back to the Bay Area. Now I wish Redding was closer. Theory is excellent. The coffee is top quality and so is the food. The breakfast sandwich was the best we've ever had -- a freshly cooked egg, a slice of real ham, between freshly baked multi grain bread. We highly recommend Theory and look forward to stopping there whenever we're in the area. read more

Always so happy to have new, modern places in Redding! My friend who told me about this place said it was like stepping out of Redding because it's so different from anything else around here. She was right! Definitely one of the better roasters around here. The person behind me ordered a ginger espresso drink that I can't wait to try next time. I ordered a hemp milk latte and a Irish-inspired current and honey scone. They accompanied each other perfectly. Will be back and I highly recommend. The only thing they made need to change is seating arrangements. Went here at their temp location on Market St. It was busy but didn't have to wait to order and get our coffee. I had a cappuccino. It was priced comparable to other small craft coffee roasters. I'm giving this a 3-star rating so it's more visible, but I really mean 3.5! The space is honestly very cute and open. I love the spaciousness and the furniture, but the latte I ordered was way overpriced? At least for Redding I feel? I'm not actually from here, so maybe there's a disconnect, but I paid $6.75 for their seasonal special Bourbon Mint Latte with oat milk, which is a price I'd normally pay in LA or San Francisco (which is still ridiculous, I know). A normal latte is $4.50, oat milk is +$0.75, and I'm assuming there's an extra charge for the Bourbon Mint part, but that meant it was an additional $1.50??? I don't know what their food costs are, but I think those must give them pretty good profit margins lmao I also tipped $1 because well... tips are good. Lowkey, the second barista that checked out my order was a little cold. Maybe a shitty morning or I'm reading into it wrong? The first barista was really kind though! Overall, I paid $7.75 for a 16oz special oat milk latte, which I could've gotten a solid meal with or something, but oh well. Guess I was paying for the space. So far I've been here about three times and I love their coffee and just the all around general vibe that they give off! It's such a great place to chill out and study as well as get a great cup of coffee and a nice snack to go with it. They roast their beans in house so I think the owner takes pride in his coffee and you can tell by how smooth my latte taste every single time. As well as picking the food they use! This is one of my ideal coffee places. I go for strong lightly roasted espressos, with good tea selection and tasty food a plus. Not that many places make the list. Even big cities with lots of cafes usually fail to turn up many good ones, but here in Redding is a gem. Their coffee is delicious, the staff is super friendly, the interior is cool and interesting but not pretentious.
