Came here for coffee and breakfast twice during our trip to Lassen National Park. Gotta say, I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed our visits here! Super cozy and homey inside, staff were so friendly and kind, and it was just such a peaceful way to start our morning. Their egg, cheese, and bacon breakfast sandwich was delish - just the right amount of food to sets us up for a day of hiking. A wide variety of coffee and breakfast drinks to start the day, too. They also have Wi-Fi here, which was clutch because I got very little cell service in Shingletown. Easy parking. Hands down would recommend stopping by when you're in the area. read more

Higher Ground Coffee was conveniently located down the road from our accommodation. The interior was cozy with some indoor seating and free wifi (very necessary). The lady at the counter was super friendly and great to talk to about the local hikes and attractions. The menu had some seasonal fall drinks, and I got the Oatmeal Cookie Chai Latte (with 3 shots of espresso because I was exhausted). This was tasty, although the flavor was somewhat masked by all the espresso. I also tried the Banana Bread, which was tasty, but did not taste freshly baked. Pricing was extremely reasonable! Overall, a good option for a caffeine fix. read more

If you're passing thru and need a little pick me up, this place is worth the stop before heading up to Lassen. The iced and hot coffees are great, there are lots of pastries (some of them made in house) and I had no idea there was such a large menu for breakfast sandwiches, regular sandwiches and salads too! Service was friendly and quick and they even have a drive thru window. I definitely recommend trying this place out. Just FYI: cash is king if you don't want to pay the debit/credit card processing fee. A lot of Shingletown businesses will pass the processing fee to you so if you don't want to pay the 3% or whatever, bring cash. read more

Cute little coffee shop that sits along the 44 on the way into Lassen. Family run by the friendliest folks, they make a selection of sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. Cool down with an iced drink - they make a good Mexican Chocolate Mocha. Plenty of great breakfast options - the Pesto Parm stands out with fluffy eggs and bacon, but the Biscuits and Gravy are also pretty great. Spicey Bowl is similar, to what you'd find in a sandwich, with chunks of fresh jalapeño to spice things up. They also have a case full of pastries, notably the Almond Danish and multiple muffins. I prefer the prepared food to the pastries, and their coffee concoctions are good. Stop by Higher Ground on your way in or out of Lassen. They make the best food in all the towns. read more

Hidden gem! This is a great little coffee spot! Super nice people, the blueberry scones (especially if you get it warmed) are better than Starbucks'! It has a cozy vibe. The music is good but not super loud. Great spot to work from. They have a drink menu and breakfast/lunch food options (see pics). Multiple people came in just to have breakfast and chat. It's a decent choice in Shingletown granted I be live this is the only coffee shop there besides the grocery store that also serves breakfast and coffee. I tried their latte, it was pretty delicious and not too sugary. Their breakfast burrito was not good, it had way too many tomatoes and was a bit bland. Their jalapeño bagel was delicious, and tasty. I wouldn't get a breakfast burrito again but I would the bagel sandwich. Overall, friendly staff, locally owned (I Believe) and super cute place. If I am ever in the area, I would try it. read more

If you are looking for a quick breakfast on your way into town or airport I HIGHLY recommend this great Christian business. The coffee texture and blend is something unique to this business. Its not bitter, burnt nor bland. It is and has been my regular 6AM stop. I have only had the scramble bowl and burrito for breakfast. Both are great with preference to the burritos. Every morning for the first hour the business opens and welcomes guests with Christian music as the sunrise comes up over the horizon. 5 Stars for atmosphere, quality, service and of course the food. read more

As travelers from the Bay Area, we are used to wearing masks into all businesses not only for our own protection but for others. This establishment gave us the "look" as soon as we walked in the door wearing masks. There was an older middle-aged woman at the register and a teenaged girl helping her. Their attitudes spoke a thousand words. As a small town business, they should be grateful we stopped and patronized their little shoo, that employs them and puts a roof over their heads and food on their table. He had choices but we stopped at their cafe. Never again. I don't care what a persons politics are, but as a business person myself, I know you never treat a customer that way. Again, do not buy coffee from a business that doesn't appreciate you spending your money at their establishment. We all have choices. Don't make this place one of yours. Two stars because my mocha was good but one star or zero because the Lady at the counter was grouchy. Not a smile to be found anywhere. As soon as I walked in with my dog she said, we don't usually have animals inside. There's no pet sign anywhere so I told her I would just look at the menu and let my significant other make my purchase. And she snapped at my significant other As well. Something to do with not being able to make an iced cappuccino. If you want decent coffee go, but if you want decent personality and customer service keep rolling by. read more

The breakfast bomb is just that, the bomb. Basically biscuits and gravy but with eggs, cheese and bacon too. The jalapeño bagels are amazing and huge. Try the BLT on a croissant for lunch with a salad with the feta vinaigrette. They serve organic coffee and use Monin syrups for flavors. Best Cappuccino in a 45 minutes radius. Wow! It took me a while to realize we even had a drive through in Shingletown but we do! I have been there 3 times and every time I have left happy. This last time I ordered Vegetable soup and it was amazing...the taste and temperature were right on, and the veggies were rustic and tasty. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. I suggest you give them a try! 5 stars and well deserved.... but their hours have left me wishing they were open on a Sunday. My only suggestion for Higher grounds is you need a sign that catches the eye. I'm sure you would get more customers! read more

Best coffee place for miles! The coffee is organic and the food is amazing! My favorite drink is the Mexicano! It's an Americano with some Mexican Mocha added in! So good and so much better on the calorie count! The best sandwich is the Vegetarian on whole wheat! The Turkey Bomb is also amazing on their delicious bagels!! Make sure and stop by every time you drive through Shingletown! Makes a great spot to warm up after a day in the snow or cool off from the heat in the valley! The wifi works great if you're in need of some internet while on vacation too! I'm a Starbucks barista and came up to visit my Dad since he moved into Shingletown. He told me about this place and I love coffee houses so we decided to visit. Angie (the owner) and Mariah were super polite and helpful! Had a Chai Latte which was excellent and had great traces of chai spice and cinnamon. Also tried out a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant, holy cow! It was awesome! What a great little coffee spot, definitely check them out, I'll be back for sure! read more
