They used to have a seating area for Bo Ne sizzling plates but after COVID, they're only operating as a to-go restaurant. My fave is their salty egg Bánh Bao and even though it's 25c extra, I think it's worth the splurge every time! Both versions of the baos will have a generous portion of mince pork, mushroom, skinny vermicelli noodles, and a dash of green onions. The bao texture is soft and bouncy, though a little too thick for my liking. I also love their salted egg cupcakes and flan cake. The savory cupcakes pair amazingly well with the salted eggs, cubed cheese, and pork floss. The flan is smooth and soft, with the perfect amount of bitterness from the cocoa sponge cake. You cannot go wrong with either of these! I tried their combination Bánh Mì once and was disappointed. The flavor was lackluster and portion was also small for $6. This week I get my usual, shumai banh mi. Tell my why the meat filling inside was cold and fishy. It tasted like when food is left out. It made me sick after and i threw up. The current banh mi's meat have a freezer burn taste occasionally. Regulars have told me the original owners have slowly stepped back and now potentially their children are taking over. The bo ne however was just okay. I think it's a little on the sweet side, sweeter than most bo ne places. This place is known for their bo ne aka steak and eggs and I think they only (literally) have less than 10 items on the menu. They have this and a beef special - whatever that is! They also serve banh baos aka Vietnamese hum baos or white buns filled with seasoned ground pork, Chinese sausage and a hard boil egg! My grandma use to make this and it was a day's work to make the dough, make the filling, stuff the buns and then steam them! Oh how I miss them and this place makes them exactly like she did. Even the bf enjoyed them and he's a bit picky. The pork was just seasoned well and so juicy with its wood ear mushrooms, jicama, green onions, etc. I ordered coconut juice but they do not speak English at all and gave us some other drink with coconut milk, beans and jello. Pretty delicious nonetheless but I couldn't tell you what it was or how to order it again. We even ordered the banh baos to-go! They mistakenly thought I ordered them fried - my Vietnamese and pointing skills must be horrible :) So I ended up getting the fried ones and the normal ones to-go. They freeze up well and you can steam them when you want to eat them, if you plan on keeping them long term. They also sell Vietnamese coffee and other various drinks. They were stingy on the coffee, they only filled my cup halfway and the rest was ice! Our table ordered half Bo Ne and Bo Dac Biet. When our order came out, they literally all looked the same. Our waitress said that one had more meat but we didn't see a difference. The plates came with French bread, salad and French butter and pate. It's meant to be eaten together or as a sandwich. The sizzling beef came out on a hot plate and was flavorful! The fried egg was cooked perfectly. However the meatball I was indifferent about. For a first timer, I'd give this place 4 stars! My family's been coming here for Vietnamese egg rolls in the past few years. Basically, whenever we have a large family function that requires some type of filler food, we go with the mass order of Vietnamese egg rolls. They go for 50 cents a pop which isn't exactly cheap, but for the convenience and the consistently good quality, I guess it's worth it. I'm giving it 3 stars because (1) I'm pretty sure there are other places out there that provide the same service as this place and will taste as good, (2) you have to speak Vietnamese to order here; I don't think the people running the place understand much English, and (3) they aren't exactly friendly people, even if we do speak Vietnamese to them. They didn't crack a smile once while we were there. If you are looking to place a mass order, I think you need to tell them a day in advance, and then you can go pick up. Portion-wise, it was a little small for $12. Other places give you more bread, an extra egg, or add sausage/hot dogs, but Thiem Hung makes up for the additional items just with taste. There is a language barrier for those who do not speak Vietnamese (me) because they only speak Vietnamese here. We got the BO NE, which means steak and egg but it also comes with a small pork meatball on a sizzling plate. Compared to Bo Ne on Beechnut, the steak is very saucy (sweeter side) and flavorful. There are no soy sauces on the table but you really don't need it! Their butter and pate were soft but the bread is a little on the crunchier side. It also comes with a small salad on the side and you can top it with your dressing of choice on the table.
