Very good every time I come here. Smalll family establishment, pretty friendly, service may be on slow side but "it's normal for bellaire". I used to goto another place for banh bao but I tried their here, it's more traditional and it's really good. Traditional and "Trung muoi" and both are worth the try. They have fried banh bao too, it's new to me, I am too full to try this week. P.s. They don't have iced tea, interesting. But they do have a water filter system, you can't miss it when u pay. BE CAREFUL when you PAY with CREDIT CARD!!!! While I loved their bo ne the most in Houston, I hate their un-honest customer services. I came to eat here multiple times, every time they see me take out my credit card their attitude changed instantly (pay attention to the cashier's face expression). They always tried to ask me if I have cash even I handed them the credit card explaining they want to avoid paying taxes. However, if you pay with cash, they still charge you taxes (hilarious enough?). Here is the reason why I decided to update my Yelp review today to warn everyone. I ordered a portion of Bo Ne which costed $10 last Friday. When I handed the cashier (also waitress) the credit card, she froze for 2 seconds, then told me if she can charge me $15 on my credit card then give me back $5 in cash. I agreed. Went home and check my credit card account, it turned out that she charged me $16.24, not $15. So basically, she illegally charged me the taxes of $15, even my food order was only $10. I think they have made a very greedy and stupid decision for stealing customers' money (very small amount) but badly ruined their reputation and lost many customers. Came here for lunch after hearing a lot about their bo ne. The price is about $12 now. The meat is really tender and flavorful. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out as medium/medium well. Still good. The juice/sauce it comes out in is what makes the dish. It also comes with an egg and a meatball looking thing. The bread is hot and fresh, good pate/butter but not the best I've ever had. The star of the dish is of course the beef. Not sure what cut it is, but the quality of the beef is great. They used to have their special homemade butter and pate but somehow they change and use the canned pate (which is tasteless). I like how the meat is flavorful and strong comparing to other places like Bo Ne Houston, Pho Bo To & Bo Ne. The side salad is nothing but iceberg lettuce and jalapeños. They also have two bottles of sauce, one for salad and the other one for the steak. The baguette is freshly baked and crunchy. Minus 2 stars of the service. One time I had to wait for 30 mins for the Bo Ne. Btw: Banh bao trung muoi (salted egg bun) is my recent fav snack. Must try if you have a chance. read more

Omg what happened?!?!??! This was one of my favorite spot for Banh mi, cream puffs, pate de chaud! It was the one of the worst Banh mi Ive eaten. The bread was so hard, the meat fillings tasted whack. My biggest disappointment was the cream puff. It felt like the cream filling was old. It had an odd taste to it. this is the OG banh mi right here. literally grown up eating banh mi from thiem hung. Their baguette are the crispiest, best if eaten right out of the oven! you MUST try their xiu mai and thit nuon banh mi! This place was almost perfect and definitely a solid 4.5 stars. I actually found this place by "mistake". I was searching for a new banh mi sandwich place and this place showed up. This is actually no "bakery". They don't sell bread or cakes. The only "baked good" they offer is the bread that comes with their Bo ne, Vietnamese steak and eggs. Their offerings are few and straightforward. They have bo ne, which is Vietnamese steak and eggs, and buns. Both are delicious. I had bo ne all over Houston and while some places were good in the beginning, the quality all inevitably decreased over time. From what I saw a great majority of their customers are repeats. You come in, tell them how many people and they try to fit you however they can. This means you may end up sharing a table with strangers. I personally don't enjoy doing so but knowing ahead of time would've eased my discomfort a bit. Their food is worth it though. Because their menu is so simple and most customers are repeats, once you are seated you are essentially asked what you want and how many. Don't expect anyone to ask you things like "Have you been here before?" or "Would you like for me to explain our menu?". It's not that they are rude, it's just not how things work here. I didn't personally interact with any of the staff but I highly doubt they speak fluent English. So if you don't speak Vietnamese or aren't with someone who does, be prepared to use simple words and use hand gestures. Lastly, because of all the sizzling plates from the bo ne, the whole place can get real smoky and hot, especially during the hot months and when it's crowded. We opted for the cut pieces of steak, medium rare and the dish comes with a fried egg and a Vietnamese meatball on a sizzling hot fajita platter. There's also accompanying baguette, lettuce, tomato, onions, hot peppers, mayo and Pate. It's a deconstructed steak and egg sandwich that you eat by sopping up the juices with the bread. I have tried the Bo Ne at many different restaurants including Bo Ne Houston and none of them come close to Thiem Hung Bakery. The steak is nicely cut into cubes holding a lot of flavor, each bite you take is mouth watering. The mayonnaise pate is homemade it taste really good spreading it on the baguette, I like dipping the bread into the skillet to get all the juices form the meat. Since Vietnamese food is my fav food in the world, I will try every possible Vietnamese dish (besides the formed chicken in the egg shield) I hear. I came here tried to have an early lunch by myself and of course, the restaurant was already packed. Weekend in China Town. Go figure! I was lucky that one Vietnamese family waiting in front of me helped me to get a table since I don't speak Vietnamese. The people here barely speak English which is fine because this is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. I'm all for it. I ordered the famous sizzling plate n a coconut water. It took a very long time then my coconut water cane contaminated w/other colors n was only 70% full in the cup. I kindly returned the drink and asked for water... but it never came. I quickly finished the plate as soon as possible and wanted to pay and get out. Then when I was paying the lady finally asked me if I wanted some water... I was pretty much dying out of durst because of the meat and sauce. I told her please n took it to go. I still tipped n ordered their famous salty egg bun togo as well.
