Their estimate wa comfortably within my budget. NOTHING WAS LEAKING AT THAT TIME so I planned to schedule work early January. Then I came home to leaking ceiling. Since they're available 24/7, i called their office. Maria was able to schedule Jimmy to come out within a couple hours. He made sure the pipes were OK, then found the bad seal on my tub. Four hours after coming home my ceiling was no longer leaking, my tub was sealed, and we had plans to fix the rest before the end of the week. Finally, the day of the planned project arrived. Most recently, we had a pesky leak in the upstairs bathtub. The tub is over the kitchen, and water would drip from one of the recessed lights in the ceiling. Yikes! Larry and his assistant had to cut a hole in the kitchen ceiling, but they almost instantly found the problem and fixed it. As a bonus, the drain on the tub now works again! And as far as the hole in the ceiling...I got a guy for that! I replaced the sump pump a few years ago. I asked Larry to look at it and let me know if I need to replace it again. How many other companies would view that as an invitation to overcharge for work that isn't needed? Larry said he examined it and it was fine. No problems. Timely, great work, fair pricing. I mean... it's like impossible to find a decent plumber in River Forest. Add landscapers to that list too. We have a large lot and it's like we have to beg for service. River Forest is really beginning to turn us off. Do yourself a favor, avoid the "Gilchrist' plumbing companies all together... you call one and they all refer to the other. I reached out to my brother-in-law, who does plumbing, and he said it was a fair amount. Still, he lives in another state and wanted a second opinion here in Chicago. I found VanderBosch because they ranked high on Google when I asked about the job. Actually, they had a whole blog post about the service and I learned a lot. Jordan called me back and let me run down the whole project and told me what they would charge. I walked away from the conversation really wanting to give the job to VanderBosch, but Jordan is a straight-shooter and told me that they couldn't finish the job as fast as his competitor (for boring, but significant reasons). So, this competitor to the initial company took the time to call me back, listen to my issue, give me the straight facts, and all because he was so focused on the well-being of a potential customer that in the end, couldn't even book his company. Why can't everybody be like this? This is some real "city of big shoulder" stuff from a Chicago-based company. In the end, I wasn't able to hire VanDerBosch, but they have a down payment on a future customer.

I called Connell this last time because I had two outside faucets that were giving me fits. Nathan came over and I told him I wanted two new frost-free faucets installed. Nathan told me that before I shell out the big bucks to replace them, he could take a look at the current faucets and see if they could be repaired. They are deep and very obvious/noticeable scratches that cannot be fixed without fixing the entire floor in the house, as it's all the same wood and style. I emailed them, called more than 3 times leaving a voicemail and messages with whomever answered the phone. I was told they would let the manager know, but I never received a response from anyone. At that point I figured it wasn't worth it. Then, fast forward to a few weeks, (now 2.5 years later), we find out we had a gas leak. The People's Gas repairmen came quickly and said they were shocked at how loosely the pipes for the water heater were put together! He showed me how he didn't even need a tool to take them apart! In two small twists the pipes were off! So apparently, for 2.5 years, we have had a gas leak and didn't know and are very lucky to be alive at this point. We have a child and have many family members and friends over! We are appalled! So, not only did this company permanently destroy our floor and act extremely unprofessional by totally ignoring us, but they almost killed us due to their negligence! Literally ANY company would be a better choice.

AVOID THIS COMPANY…read more I called on Monday regarding two plumbing issues in my condo - my shower valve needs replacing and my toilet is continuously running. These should be two simple tasks for even a rudimentary plumber. The secretary who answered the office phone to give me an estimated cost was courteous, well informed and friendly... that's about where anything positive ended. I called back the following day to set up an appointment and the phone was answered by a girl who put me on hold for literally every single question I asked and ultimately gave up and just transferred me to the secretary I had spoken to the day before. Clearly the secretary had been listening in because I was transferred within 2 seconds and she already knew everything I had said. Why are they making that poor girl answer the phone if she has no idea what is going on!? Then I set up my appointment for 6am on Friday. I did this intentionally because I actually have a job (shocking!!!!) and don't want to have to take vacation time to watch a plumber fix a toilet. (Might I add, the entire reason I picked this company to do the work was because I was thrilled that getting a 6am appointment was even a possibility). They asked me to text photos of the shower knob to the plumber's personal cell phone to ensure he had the correct parts on hand. I sent the photo along with a text explaining who I was and confirming that I was expecting him at 6am Friday. I got no response... in retrospect, that should have been my first clue. Friday morning 6am rolls around.... no-one shows up. Initially I thought okay well I'll give it time, maybe traffic. A full hour later I called the office number and got no answer (despite their website saying they opened at 6am... no-one was answering the phone at 7am). I then called the plumber's cell phone, again, no answer. I called back a second time to the office and left a voicemail explaining my frustration at the plumber's tardiness and how no-one communicated the delay to me. I then waited ANOTHER hour for someone to show up or call me back - NOTHING. By 8am (2 hours past my appointment time) I gave up and went to work. Finally, at 9am I get a voicemail from a completely unapologetic man saying that the plumber got sick and wasn't able to make it. I understand people being sick, but a phone call would have been GREAT so I didn't sit around waiting for hours. Then to put the cherry on top the man actually started telling me HOW TO FIX IT MYSELF. And then said if I was desperate to call a different plumber because they were too backed up and he didn't know what to tell me at this point. There wasn't even a single apology for making me wait around all morning. I'm sorry, I didn't realize when I set up an appointment for a "professional" plumber to come fix my bathroom that really that meant I'd wait around for hours only to get DIY instructions or pawned off to another company. How incredibly unprofessional!!!! I would think that a small business would live and breathe based on it's reputation and the satisfaction of it's customers. At bare minimum I would expect someone to offer to come out same day at no extra charge or to suggest an alternative solution that does not include me doing it myself or calling a different company. Good to know my business is so insignificant to them that they would rather send me to another company than try to fix their error. Seriously, avoid the hassle and unprofessional dealings at this place. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Thank goodness we wanted a quote first because the price quoted was $1,850.00 for 2 hours work. $925.00 per hour is more than the best lawyers charge and belive me, we dodged a bullet here. Be careful and ALWAYS ask them for a quote 1st. They have a show-up fee of $59.95 so when their ridiculous quote is unacceptable, the company at least gets paid for gas and the employees time.
