Quality and value! This is a solid choice for Chinatown salons if you're ok going to a very no frills kind of place. I had my first haircut with Patty. Her sister Sharon works here as well but I can't comment on her work. Patty is great. Very friendly, chatty, and detailed/thorough - you can tell she is very passionate about her craft. She will tell you bluntly what she thinks will look good or not good and isn't shy about it. But ultimately . think she listened to what you want. And she is skilled for the price. My wash and cut was $30 + tip. A lot of other Chinatown salons are getting up there in price, and attitude - you sometimes have to wait forever to be seen and they don't honor appointment times. Not so here. I know others had complained about waiting, but I saw Patty right on time and there was no one else in the salon when I came. Patty helped me fixed the last stylist who thinned my hair out with a razor; she trimmed it to health and also put some shape back into the haircut. I have a short bob/long ish pixie and she was able to advise and replicate some photos I showed her. She was very kind in understanding I wanted my hair to be washed with cold water - since it is dyed. She also was not pushy (some salons are) in upselling any other services and was realistic about how often I'd have to come back (2 months) to maintain my cut/shape. I would definitely see her again and will continue to see how I like my cut/service. The only thing I thought that could have been improved upon is the blowdry - I would liked more volume and teasing but it's hard to compare these places to what you get at a blow dry bar where they exlcusively focus on that! This is an extremely overdue review. First of all, Patty, if you're reading this, I love you. I decided I wanted to stop getting my hair cut at those typical Chinese places, mainly because my Mandarin sucked and they never listened to how I wanted my hair cut. ie. No layers? We'll give you layers anyway. After years of getting my hair cut at those places, I hated and always dreaded haircuts. I spent hours researching salons that had good reviews but also wouldn't drain my wallet because living on a college budget is hard enough. I found Third Prince Salon on Yelp and decided this was the place. For the life of me, I couldn't find it and walked past the building twice. The location is like... a hole in a wall, within a wall. It's all the way in the back of a hallway? Kind of like a "mall" but not really. I showed up without an appointment, but I wasn't in a rush that day and waited about thirty minutes for Patty to finish up with her other customer. Patty is so sweet and is constantly checking in with you to make sure your hair is the way you want it, and offers her own advice as well. She gave me some tips to take care of my scalp and even suggested some treatments. She's so easy to talk to and for once in my life, I was so happy with the way my hair looked at the end. Lovely friendly people. No frills but you can't go wrong. My hair had been fried by previous hairdresser, and I got a haircut that makes my hair look voluminous and healthy for $40, even though my hair is thin! No waiting. Call ahead for appointment but they will try to manage to fit you in. And tip generously and insist that it be taken. It is the Chinese way to refuse to be polite. Say it is money for coffee later. These ladies work hard and pandemic has not been easy on their business as so many businesses in Chinatown suffered, I am sure. At $50, still worth it! The woman who commented that her second hairdresser criticized her cut from this salon --even though she had been happy with it --- allowed a hairdresser to play games to get her business. I came in to see Patty to get my hair colored for the first time and to get a haircut. Because I have never ever dyed my hair before she asked me questions on why I wanted to dye my hair now and gave me several options for my need. She was so honest, she saved my healthy hair! I've been going to patty years. I don't know about other ppl but when I get my hair done, I don't care for anything else other than getting the HAIR done right. There are so many luxurious "salons" in the city with ridiculous prices but their actual skills at cutting hair (especially Asian hair) are mediocre at best. If you're Asian, you gotta go to someone who knows how to cut Asian hair. Patty does the excellent job. This was my second time here after about a year and I have no words to describe how perfect this place is. Patty remembered I was here a whole year ago and I was so surprised. I got a regular wash and cut and paid such a low price for a quality haircut. She made me feel so comfortable with everything and did everything she could to make my haircut flatter my face. She was so detailed in her cutting but also really quick and efficient and it came out better than I asked for. Also, before my haircut I had the most amazing head massage by Sharon while she was washing my hair. It was probably for 10 mins but it felt a lot longer and she even massaged my upper shoulders and neck. It felt like I was on a cloud and I could have literally fallen asleep there. After, I was sitting waiting for my haircut and just thinking about the most amazing massage of my life. Tip them very well because they deserve it! Their walls are probably the brightest orange I've ever seen in my life. My friend and I came in for a wash and cut on a saturday morning. Patty greeted us (she speaks English fluently for those who are worried like I was) and was super nice. She asked me what I wanted and since I was vague and didn't know she sort of guided me through the decision process. I usually hate having conversations with the hairdresser but she was so sweet and she kept giving me little tips and tricks about how to keep my hair healthy. I felt so bad because I was nodding off but she would just patiently move my head back into position and continue cutting my hair. She was also really detail-oriented, kept pushing my hair back and forth to make sure it was perfectly even. She gave me exactly what I wanted and the length that I asked for so no complaints there. She also offered to curl my hair for free, which I declined but she curled my friend's hair for her. They are CASH ONLY so make sure to hit up an ATM before coming. On the board it says that a wash and cut is $35 or 38 but she said since we were students she would only charge of $25. We each handed her $30 to give her some tip but she refused it and gave us the tip back and said to use it for our next haircut. Where will you ever find someone so sweet?? And a few things that pissed me off: Patty washed my hair and my scalp felt like it was going to bleed from how hard she was digging their nails into my scalp & she literally WASHED MY ENTIRE FOREHEAD.
