I went on a Wednesday night at 7:30 PM. Love the ambience of this bar! Chill and laid back enough to just wander in, but also dim and intimate enough to go to on a date. Awesome first date spot, I think! Happy hour is legit. I believe it is M-F from 4-8 or 5-8 or something. It's til 8. Some really tasty cocktails for around $6 each. I had the moscow mule and the arya stark. LOVED the arya stark. I don't usually order the same cocktail twice because I wanna try as many diff drinks as possible, but I had to get 2 arya starks! Pineapply but not too sweet. They use a spicy ginger beer for all their mule-y type drinks so beware, if you dont like that and are expecting a sweeter, more traditional ginger beer flavor. They don't make their drinks weak for happy hour too, like some bars tend to cheap out for their HH deals. Parking - had to drive around for a few minutes before I finally found a spot 3-4 blocks away. On a weeknight too. so make sure to plan ahead for some parking time if you don't want to keep your date waiting! All that aside the music, ambiance, decor make this a must if your in the silver lake area especially on Sunday's if you love live Jazz like myself. No food served here but a few local spots around to grab grub. We came to Thirsty Crow at 8pm on a Thursday, and it was packed. The bar counter was surrounded, most tables were taken, and the bartenders were busy. Even when considering how busy the place was, however, it took an excessively long time to be acknowledged at the counter and helped. When we finally got our drinks, we sat at a dimly lit table for two. The bar was a little too dark for my taste, but I appreciate the crafty candle center pieces on the table tops. I was pleased with my Golden State apple cider, but the wait and the lighting make me hesitant to go back unless I'm already in the area and thirsting for a drink. read more

It definitely seemed like a hipster paradise, but being a Philly regular I can get into that kind of thing, so I didn't mind. Such a great bar!! I came here for my brothers birthday, I thought it was going to be just another dive hipster bar. Boy was I wrong. The moment you walk in you realize how cool this place is. It's definitely a hipster bar, all of the bartenders are dressed up in either suits or dress shirts and suspenders. There are pictures of crows everywhere, it's so funny. And every time I've been here there's been some kind of event, birthday, promotion, engagement. I haven't even gotten to the good part, the bar tenders are AMAZING!! It's so hard to find a bartender that makes your favorite drink perfectly, they have four. Did I mention it's a whiskey bar? I know, I just blew your mind. No one who drinks at Thirsty Crow adheres to the wise words of style maven, Coco Chanel, who never left the house without taking one thing off (fashionable editing, as it were). The amount of accessories adorned by bodies in the room was enough to fill a punkier version of Versailles. Dripped in rings, hats, face piercings...the clientele is definitely not your suburban Chili's crowd. The tattoos and facial hair make you feel infinitely less cool as well (even if you are sporting both). Needless to say, there's a whole lot of good people watching if you choose to saddle up to the bar solo (guilty). For some reason, because of the way the bar is situated (a u-shape protruding out towards the crowd), it's really hard for the bartenders to hear you, whether it's crowded or not, which results in this awkward back and forth exchange where you think you mispronounced something or are being questioned/judged regarding your beverage of choice. Once you get through that communicatory blunder, get ready for a straw full of "magic", if you're ordering the Thirsty Crow signature cocktail. A main ingredient (though listed last, so not the most prominent) is indeed, magic, and I'm pretty sure I tasted it in every sip. The cocktail tasted like paradise and I didn't want it to end...and when it did, I ordered another, and another. Maybe the "magic" in it is hypnotic, so that when you hear the slurp of the end of the drink, you're triggered to order another. Sneaky! The place was packed on a Saturday around 7, which I was surprised about since I thought everyone would be at dinner, but when I discovered the happy hour menu (until 8pm every day), I realized why. Also, a ton of people waiting for Silverlake Ramen and Black Hogg pop over before being seated for a quick aperitif. They have live music pretty often and it's petite, so be prepared to wait if you go at popular "heading out to the bar" times. The bartenders were friendly and made a concerted effort to get everyone a drink before the last minute of the happy hour clock struck 8, which did not go unnoticed by myself and a few other patrons. Didn't I tell you guys steampunk was the next big thing? Yes, I did--and here it is for you, hip and ready, in bar form, serving up true southern mixed classics, bourbons, ryes, and scotches with lots to choose from including single malts, blended, cask, barrel, old and young. Also, I love a good murder o' crows, I really do and they have some stuffed ones here--true taxidermy or not I am unawares. Of course, I have a lot to say about the décor, though at the same time it speaks for itself, so if you still haven't met steampunk, allow me to intro you--Futuristic Victorianesque Cowboy, meet yelpy friends. Because futuristic fancy cowboys are usually on beautifully geared mechanical horses, they don't really need chairs. I found seating to be a bit sparse, but it's nice to "escape" to the outdoor/indoor smoking area if you need a breather. Oxymoronic, I know, but there were never a lot of people out there so both the air and seating were pretty available. The bathrooms are tiny (two people!) but stylistically appropriate. I had some very meaningful drunk conversation in there about the really anachronistic soap dispenser and about why "guys are jerks!" By the time I had settled on my drink, a mint julep, something I have been slightly obsessed with since childhood, it was getting late and it hit me hard. That sucker was strong, but also delicious with it's giant, sugared sprig of locally sourced mint. The tastiest drink I sipped that evening though had to be the eponymous Thirsty Crow, which I shall describe as loaded lemonade. As per the clientele, you already know what kind of bar this is and I'll just say that it makes for good people watching and if you're a single lady in need of...a "good time" maybe you'll find that here too. Just saying. The Thirsty Crow has Sunday night whisky education and I definitely recommend learning about alcohol and being an equal opportunity drinker. If you have yet to expand to the realm of bourbon, scotch, and whisky the variety at the Thirsty Crow is nothing to screech at. read more

It's been said before, but it does manage to convey "speakeasy" with its appearance even though it's blasting new music and the two bartenders were dressed like extras from "Flashdance" (decked out in tights, leg warmers, sports bra-like tops, etc). Just let it be known that ordering anything "sour" does not count as a well drink at the Thirsty Crow, as they apparently make their own. I say this to spare you during Happy Hour, where you can have Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey with a mix-in for $5; order it with the mentioned ingredient and get charged $12. Though a bit on the small side, the drinks themselves were decent in their mixture and presentation. I'm loving the fresh blueberries in place of maraschino cherries. Thirsty Crow's good for special occasions, but I don't think it'd be a regular haunt for me in the Echo Park/Silver Lake area. read more

Whiskey is the answer, I don't remember the question! A bar where everyone knows your name. This is one of my favourite bars in town. I was here so often I could have called it home, which funnily enough was just down the road but didn't have enough whiskey in it. A quintessential whiskey bar in the heart of La La Land with an enormous list of whiskeys and designer cocktails in a saloon-style setting. Imagine a trendy saloon cocktail bar with hipsters and beautiful people and you've got the idea! The drink specials are great and the happy hour keeps the drinks coming. The vibe is chilled and relaxed and a great place to take your friends on a night out. They'll all be very impressed. Bonus points to you, you cool thing ;) Service is excellent and if there's a drink worth drinking that they don't know then it doesn't exist! I used to live only a few roads away but the whiskey went down so smoothly i'd always need to get a taxi home with the driver usually always NOT happy for the short journey....even though sometimes I offered to save him gas by walking me there. When you're looking for your next cool bar to visit The Thirsty Crow should definitely be on your list. You surely won't regret it! Hipster Central.....as expected for a bar in Silverlake. This place is small and it gets pretty packed on the weekends so try and get there early. Otherwise you'll end up having to deal with the douchey doorman who recently discovered his new "power" as the gatekeeper and will often flex it! Came here on a Sunday night to listen to some LIVE JAZZ. The band was pretty young (they were grad students at USC Thornton School of Music) and they played really well! I'm no enthusiast or connoisseur but I've listened to enough jazz music to know what sucks and what doesn't.....and they didn't! Drinks were kinda pricey for a dive bar but the live music made up for it. Thirsty Crow doesn't seem to have any food but there are plenty of street vendors outside selling bacon-wrapped hot dogs! This charming, saloon-themed bar focuses on the tradition of American small-batch bourbons. The menu features classic cocktails (Manhattan, Old Fashioned, Mint Julep, etc.), signature drinks that are alterations of the classics (i.e. the "Thirsty Crow" with Sazerac rye, bitters, citrus and ginger beer and the Black Manhattan, a traditional manhattan with a hint of caramel), and creative sparkling wine cocktails like the Raspberry Royale (a Kir Royale with raspberries), Violet Vapor (prosecco with creme de violet), and Ernest Hemingway's Death in the Afternoon (prosecco with absinthe). This place is a good example of why gay bars are dying. There once was a time, boys and girls, where the only decent bars in Silverlake were gay. And then a funny thing happened: bars everywhere started not giving a shit if you were gay or straight, or whatever. And then the only gay bars left were basically museum pieces, like Micky's or Rage. Have you BEEN to a gay bar lately? Annoying. Yes, we gay people are fucking annoying. As in, I want to bash MYSELF kinda annoying. So thank GOD for places like the Thirsty Crow, where you can go canoodle with your fey boyfriend or be arm and arm with your tattooed biker girlfriend and be welcomed with smiles...WITHOUT having to be surrounded by others just like you. Yes, Silverlake has finally reached the Singularity of Awesomeness. Sure, you might grouse about all the hipsters, but I'll tell you one thing: hipsters don't whisper "fag" under their breath, nor do they play beer pong (unless they're being ironic) and they aren't bathing in Cool Water, so yeah, Silverlake is where I'll be hanging out, and there's really no better place in Silverlake right now than the Thirsty Crow. read more

So I came here the other day and you could say I was very disappointed with this bar. The bar was busy but not packed which is a good thing. The bar tenders don't pay much attention to who's been waiting the longest to order they just randomly pick someone and make drinks for people that came in line after you. I even saw the 50 year old bartender with the mowhawk and the short Indian barback pour shots while they're working and take the shots while there was a line of guests eagerly waiting to order drinks. To top it all off I finally got a seat by the bar and ordered a old fashion. When I got done with my drink I was playing with the lemon wedge in my glass which I think must have really bothered the Indian barback because he snatched the glass out of my head without asking me if I was done. After he did that he kept starring at me and then finally he asked me "are you mad because I snatched your drink away"? In a condescending way. I will never be back which is too bad since I live right around the corner. I will take my business somewhere more friendly. read more

I only waited 20 minutes efor my first beverage - after I got it - I ordered another. The whiskey sour is the same as it always is. The thirsty crow was delicious. It reminded me of summer. It look like lemonade and it came in a jar. They put a candied cherry at the bottom. It was so so good. Thirsty Crow is a very cool bar. It would be much cooler if it didn't have so many people, but I guess that's not the bar's fault. I went with a large group on a Saturday night, and it took a while, but we were actually able to sit down. That was a relief. Otherwise, though, the bar wasn't quite optimal for more than a few people. I liked the space - it was dark, wooden, and sultry in that special whiskey bar way - but the music was so loud that it kind of strangled the atmosphere. It was hard to have conversations without shouting. While I can't fault Thirsty Crow for drawing a large crowd, I can say that the music doesn't have to drown out the noise of a hundred people talking. Thankfully, the bar was easy enough to access. We didn't have to wait long for drinks, and the bartenders were friendly. The drinks were very good. The cocktail menu at Thirsty Crow is pretty basic - I don't think the bartenders call themselves mixologists or anything - but the basics seem to be done correctly. I had a Traditional Rye Manhattan with Sazerac, sweet vermouth, bitters, and a Luxardo cherry. It was well made, potent with balance. Matt B.'s Old Fashioned was similarly good, with Buffalo Trace bourbon, sugar, bitters, and orange zest. It would've been shameful if Thirsty Crow couldn't get these right, and I'm happy to say that they can mix a good simple whiskey cocktail. I also tried The Thirsty Crow, which must be their signature cocktail. It combined Sazerac with citrus, bitters, and ginger beer for a colder, more refreshing drink. I didn't like it quite as much as the others, but it was certainly tasty enough. If the bar weren't so loud and crowded, I would have had a much better time. We ended up changing venues after an hour or so because none of us could handle the noise. I think I'm too cranky to go back to Thirsty Crow on a weekend, but I might give it a shot during the week. Intense hipster status ignored this place was really awesome. We got there relatively early (around 9:30 ish?) and were able to score a table in the back that we occupied all night. It gets crowded so it was nice to have a place to sit. The staff was nice and very efficient. Even though we were away from the bar we were still well taken care of. My share of the evening involved 3 fingers of bourbon, a salty dog and a french martini. It was all very delicious and served with a smile. I think my bill was about $32 or so but definitely reasonable. I left with a bit of a buzz on (don't worry I wasn't driving) and a smile on my face. Definitely a righteous vibe in here and I recommend enjoying it for long periods of time. read more

It's more of a Tony's Saloon type place than a fancy pants Seven Grand. Located in what seems to be the heart of Silver Lake. The parking situation is horrendous on this part of Sunset. On one hand there is lots of traffic, and on the other, this area is saturated with bars and eateries so lots of the parking is taken by the late afternoon. Once you're clear of the parking ordeal, The Thirsty Crow transports you into a relaxing world with plentiful libation. All the bartenders are capable of pouring an excellent cocktail. They also work with a great attitude and provide good service. As for the place itself, it's a rather small space with vintage depression-era decor and just enough minuscule tables near the walls for sitting. The mood is calm with just enough liveliness imparted by the playing music. The Thristy Crow is just the remedy for those nights when you're craving a good cocktail. I tried the Thirsty Crow when it first opened and felt let down. And, after trying to give it another chance a few days ago, I just can't let go of the thought that it's a poor imitation of much better bars in LA. The concept behind craft cocktails starts with bartenders who are dedicated to the craft. "The Finest of Everything in Spirits" their sign says. Well... My bartender was really nice, just not what you'd expect when paying that much for a cocktail. I asked the bartender if she had a corpse revival recipe and she replied, "I have no idea what you're asking me." Fair enough, and I have no problem ordering off the menu but I honestly hope she's studying. The reason is, there are so many bars around town that make Thirsty Crow hardly worth a 3-star rating. I don't mind paying high prices for a bartender that will customize drinks based on my feedback and even introduce me to some obscure spirit or bitters. Thirsty Crow is not that type of bar, though. It shoots for the middle and that's why it's often crowded. Congratulations on the Esquire nod, but they're not even in the top ten best bars of LA, and your sign makes that a little embarrassing. I will say this, I love watching hipsters in their evening wear. It makes me so happy to see a guy in a gunslinger's coat and nutcracker's hat hitting up on a young lady dressed as if she was on her way to fetch a pail of water from the prairie well.
