Chill bar with a nice list for happy hour. I was able to hang out with my friends for several hours unbothered. Very spacious inside with a back area and clean bathroom. Parking can be a bit of a challenge but if you don't mind a little walking then this is the bar for you. Would go back for a laid back group gathering or low key bar dates. read more

Great dive bar! If you're looking for a hole in the wall, this is it. My friend and I made it just in time for happy hour and the drinks quality was a much as you would expect from a hole in the wall...strong and average. However the music was bumpin with 90's and 2000s hip-hop / rap. The crowd here was a good mix and it never got too crazy busy so you could still get a seat at the table and have a good chat with your friends. read more

Love this spot. Found this bar years ago, and every time I'm in LA I make it a point to stop in. I love the atmosphere and the music is always on point. The staff is friendly and the crowd is chill and also friendly. The bartender Rachel is knowledgeable and I enjoy talking to her whenever I come in. She's very hilarious and welcoming and plays great music. There's also tons of restaurants close by that have great food if you're looking to make a night out of it. read more

Seriously the best dive bar but what truly makes it special is their bartender Rachel. She has one helluva sense of humor and not only gives service with a smile that lights up the room, she makes her patrons laugh while doing it. Sorry to say, don't come here. Bartenders were ridiculously rude. I honestly thought I offended them for some reason. Bar was not busy. We are new to the neighborhood. In a jovial spirit we ordered a round to be met with such an attitude from the red haired female bartender i truly asked our party if something happened. It seemed as though her frown was intentional. She made it very obvious she didn't like us. We thought maybe she was having a bad night. However we all saw her smile and joke around with other guests at the bar. Still confused why she was so rude. Really bad experience. New to the neighborhood and we would have loved make this our spot. Doorman was nice and sweet. Very welcoming. Bartenders are the reason we will not return. read more

I've been here several times and I really enjoyed my experience each time. A few things that I liked: 1. Chill vibe with dim lighting and a pleasant u-shaped bar 2. Nice bartenders who are attentive to customers 3. Solid happy hour with good prices and drink options 4. Fun music that varies based on the bartender working at that time 5. Surprisingly large(ish) place, so even if there's a lot of people you can usually find a place to sit I'd definitely recommend this place and plan on returning again soon! read more

Used to love this hole in the wall even though it's nearly impossible to get a drink because it's crowded and only 1-2 bartenders on shift at any time. Also didn't get love from the bartenders sometimes because they play favorites with other hipsters (agree with Shabnam I.'s review). Regardless, I'm not going back because of the ownership. 1933 Group that owns and runs it allowed indoor parties w/o social distancing at Sassafrass while all of the good citizens of LA were stuck indoors. They've since spread misinformation about it on social media and have avoided accountability. The management should care more about their patrons and less about their bottom line. read more

Stopped by this cute little bar because I've heard it's name from friends many times. It's got a very cool and relaxed vibe--and also an AWESOME happy hour! M-F 5-8 and Sat-Sun 2-8 for $5 drinks! What a deal. I'd come back every weekend if this place was located in DTLA. I tried their Moscow Mule this time around and it was pretty good. Wish it came in a copper mug though. A couple stores down, there's also Silverlake Raman. Food plus cheap drinks, what more could a person want!? read more

I came all the way from Pasadena to eat ramen and was anointed to The Thirsty Crow. What a cool bar. Dive bar feel but more elegant. Dark, small and deliciously intimate. And located right next door to a superb ramen establishment( Silver Lake Ramen) . The Thirsty Crow is a great place to kill some wait times for the local eateries as you wait for your table. It has the ambiance of a classic old ship below deck: sumptuous dark wood, white and gray marbled table tops and classic wooden dinette chairs. Noise level was average and I really enjoyed the eclectic music played on the PA system. Horse-shoe shaped bar with nice clean restrooms. This would absolutely e a great addition to a bar crawl. Go on a Sunday evening to increase your luck with parking,, or just take an Uber/Lyft. read more

Been coming to this establishment for the last 6 years . I have always gotten amazing service .. Unfortunately today I had to deal with a very disrespectful individual ( tall guy with a mustache) who also claimed to be the manager had a very ugly way of dealing with a customer . I have no issue on waiting to get my check . But if the owner is reading this please advise your staff specially your "manager" not to slam the receipt with the pad on the bar in front of people specially my significant Other !! I would've dealt differently if I wasn't courteous enough for everyone else Sitting there !! Hope this gets fixed What a shame What a stupid person to be hired at this Place read more

Hipster, Yuppie or whatever you may call it, I think the Thirsty Crow is a pretty cool bar that serves drinks with no frills and gimmicks, it might have been located in hipsterville but I think one could overlook them folks who made PBR a prime commodity and just enjoy the company of good friends in their many group friendly tables. I personally like their Belgian - La Chouffe as I always tend to gravitate in high alcohol volume beers but they do have many beers on tap from your lagers, ale to stout and the seasonal picks. For me personally The Thirsty Crow or as I might have call it a few times as the "Thirsty Cow" lol...is almost like a good after party spot, it's a place where you can just chill, be loud (you somehow need to be as it is pretty noisy in here) and just hang with friends and chit-chat about the events of the previous gathering...there is a sliver of outdoor smoking area if nicotine is really calling you or you could stay inside and just hang with the noisy bunch. Overall, I would be back to The Thirsty Crow as we have done many times, whether its for an after party or just a regular hump day happy hour, I think the place is ok, with good selection of drinks and with bar tenders that will tend to whatever possible drinks you may need. Sex in the air. I now understand what Rihanna means by "sex in the air". Not in a bad way, but the second you walk thru that heavy velvet curtain at the door, it just hits you in the face. Thirsty Crow is located between Silver Lake and Echo Park right off of Sunset Boulevard and serves an assortment of cocktails and beers. DRINKS (4/5): One of my favorites aspects of Thirsty Crow is their happy hour specials. Their specials run Mon-Fri from 5-8pm and they even have different specials during the weekend. The only thing I wish Thirsty Crow would do better is to offer more unique cocktails. If you're looking for a hipster-esque bar with good AND cheap drinks, live music, a fun crowd, and engaging bartenders, this is the place to be. They have happy hours during the afternoons on weekends, which is awesome. Old Fashions and Moscow Mules go for $5 and they're tasty and strong enough given the price. Sure, they may use Evan Williams as the base for their Old Fashions, but its good enough if you're just looking for a cheap drink at a fun place. They also have a gin-based drink called Arya Stark and Traditional Manhattans on their menu. Aside from the cocktails, they have a wide selection of whiskeys and scotch that are organized by regions (regions of Scotland or other countries. They also carry Yamazaki and Hakashu which is a nice touch to all the Glen-whiskeys and Jack Daniels they have. There's also a small outdoor area that people can chill and smoke cigarettes if desired. Thirsty Crow is definitely a fun place I'd recommend. read more

I like this place! It's a nice bar to come and chill during Happy Hour before it gets crowded! And my not-so-hipster self didn't feel out of place here. They have various cocktails for $5 during their HH which I believe is until 7 PM. Perfect for a pre-dinner cocktail if you're dining in Silver Lake! Bartenders are really nice and friendly! And they sure know how to make a mean drink. WOWW SUPER STRONG! You definitely get your money's worth. I got a Mint Julep and that's the only drink I needed for the night. There was a lot of bourbon in there! I'm not sure I'll be getting it again because I like drinks that taste a little fruitier and not as bourbon-ey. But if you're a fan of bourbon, definitely get that! This bar is definitely for whiskey lovers! read more

I reserved some tables in the back for my birthday on Friday and it was PERFECT. The whole area was reserved when we showed up with flowers, candles, and tablecloths on every table, and a rope outside the area. There was ample space for everyone, and the service was great. Super cute spot! Candle lights, great drinks, and awesome music. For a Thursday night, the bar was semi busy. But, I'm sure they get very busy on the weekends (so I'm sure the vibe changes) If you're going on a date, I would say visit this place any day between Monday and Thursday. The only thing that knocked off that star was the unfriendliness of the bartender. I asked him to recommend one of their drinks and he wasn't the friendliest and couldn't recommend one so I ended up going with a Moscow Mule. (It was great!) read more

This is how we ended up at Thunderbolt, a buzzy bar in Echo Park, just far enough away that we'd never made our way over. I loved it immediately. Thunderbolt has the friendly, comfortable atmosphere of a neighborhood bar and the hip aesthetic and high-level cocktails of a millennial boozer destination. (Not that young people can't or shouldn't hang out here, but it seems especially geared toward people like us, who drank at Walker Inn a decade ago.) We ended up sitting next to a guy who regularly drives up from Palos Verdes. I guess the place gets pretty busy, but it was ideal on a Sunday night. Happening but not crowded, with just enough space at the bar for us to grab two seats together. The bartender was great, super helpful and welcoming. He also made excellent drinks. Thunderbolt is one of those bars with an encyclopedic illustrated book for a menu. Not a long menu, just a detailed one, with a lot of information available about each drink. We got a Liquid Picnic and a Barcelonnette--just one round to close out the weekend. Both were delicious. The Liquid Picnic was a smooth, savory gin martini made with London dry gin, tomato, citron, vermouth, rosemary, and black pepper. I learned from the book that it used clarified tomato water. (There was also further reading about the clarification process.) The Barcelonnette was a mezcal sour with Suze, passionfruit, and lime, the foam made without egg white through some geeky mixologist process. Thunderbolt is not our neighborhood bar, but we plan to go back when we can to check out the rest of the menu. It's a wonderful place, well worth a jaunt on the freeway.

Two security guards were present. The more heavy set one was perfectly fine and told me that I couldn't leave with it. And I was understanding of that so I finished it by the exit inside the patio. Suddenly a second younger security guard interjects out of nowhere reprimanding me that I can't leave with a drink. The other security guard says it's a red bull and that I'm finishing it and I, slightly annoyed, said "I'm literally going to finish it right here." And the younger security guard, literally to my face, mocks my voice and tone and goes "OKAY." In the most condescending, patronising tone you can imagine and curses me out under his breath not once but twice. With other customers present and apologized to the guy whose bag he was checking as if I'd caused a problem. I don't know who you think you're talking to but I'm not the one. So I leave and go to another bar and decide to finish my night back at 4100 and give it another chance. The security staff had been changed out so I was feeling optimistic. Upon bag inspection again, I was denied entry for an empty mini bottle that I threw out in front of security and assured them was EMPTY. I was refused entry. I entered the bar earlier that night with the same contents in my bag without issue the first time. If any other staff or management happens to read this, I assure you, I have never, ever had such an unprofessional and unpleasant experience at any other bar or restaurant in my entire life. And I go out extremely frequently. There absolutely needs to be a staff change and I most likely will discourage any of my friends from returning and I will not be back.

Our very friendly server sat us on the large wraparound patio and after my explaining my celiac issues and getting some guidance on their incredible menu, we shared the following after my friend ordered a delicious Sangria while knowing as a lightweight and cheap date I would be having 6 cocktails later, I ordered the Ta Ta Tatiana- Watermelon, ginger, honey, lemon, mint, bitters: Cast iron cornbread, cultured butter, wildflower honey Kusshi oysters, Nantes carrot mignonette Arugula, emerald beauty plum, goat cheese, spiced pecans, aged balsamic Hokkaido scallops, brown butter-bacon vinaigrette, mustard greens The oysters came out first and had a delightful and unusual carrot mignonette. Small and not like Louisiana Gulf Oysters, they were fresh and delicious. Next came the Arugula salad that was tart and tasty as well as a generous portion. The cast iron cornbread was ridiculously so good I joked that I would just order two of them next time. This joint actually makes their cornbread without flour which is sadly rare for me so not only was this a gluten free treat, it was light and just melted in blissful corn flavor. Last came the scallops in a brown butter bacon vinaigrette with mustard greens that was so perfectly prepared these might be the best scallops I've ever eaten, which can sometimes be dicey. With the sauce they could have served blackened, sautéed asphalt and it would have tasted good. Well done to Manuela's all around.

Finally made it to this HOT (both in popularity and live-fire cooking) spot in Glassell Park just…read moreoff the 2 freeway. Apparently they've been open about 3 years, but all the buzz, accolades and crowds seem more recent than that. Reservations can be tough to secure, but recommended. We had a 5:30 opening time res, and I was quite surprised by the length of the separate line for walk-ins. But it appears they all made it in. Their next-door bar only seats walk-ins. Restaurant guests can wait here, but they also have a limited menu that includes several of the popular dishes (like the cornbread) and also a bar-only hangar steak, which replaced the highly lauded bar-only burger. Eagle Rock Blvd is a wide multi-lane street with a center median/parkway. The restaurant has a valet; street parking can be difficult as there are homes and apartments on the side streets. Eagle Rock Blvd has some parking, but across the blvd is FAR and hazardous to cross. A better bet is Bushwick St. behind the restaurant. There aren't a whole lot of businesses nearby, but on Dunsmoor's block there's a bar (The Grant) and a breakfast/lunch/bakery spot (Bub & Grandma's) where Dunsmoor gets their bread. Dunsmoor's Spanish Revival corner space is impressive and lovely. Chef-owner Brian Dunsmoor grew up in Georgia, but the cuisine here is "American Heritage" with definite Southern touches and of course California's abundant purveyors/farms. The menu seems highly seasonal and earthy; I doubt they use tweezers to plate the food here! The space has individual 2-top tables along 2 sides, the middle of the space has 3 long communal tables. There's counter seating right in front of the open fire (great view but hot) and a few more to the right. The fire is a further distance away from counter guests here vs. the spacing at Betsy in Altadena, another live-fire spot. Dunsmoor also has a back kitchen where non-fire dishes are done. We ordered a lot: 1) House Meyer lemonade. Dunsmoor's spirit-free beverage selection is limited. but the lemonade was great, sparkly. Their wine list is pretty large. 2) Chopped chicken liver with bacon, rosemary, onion preserves. Served with bread from Bub & Grandma's. Delish. The thought the rosemary would be overpowering but it wasn't. 3) Edna's sour milk cornbread. Pretty much seen on every table. Cheddar and Hatch chiles flecked through the bread, topped with a mound of melting cultured butter and honey cascading like waterfalls over the sides. A must order. Not spicy at all, thankfully. 4) Regier Farms yellow peaches with farmers cheese, different basils and olive oil. Summer on a plate! The peaches were exquisite. Clearly a seasonal dish. 5) Carolina Gold rice with shrimp and corn. A delish cross between risotto and grits. There was lots of cheese too. An ode to the South. 6) Aunt Emmy's pork and green chili stew. Another top-seller. Homey and substantial, with a slight kick and fabulous house-made tortillas. 7) Beef ribeye with smoked bone marrow and sea salt. Definitely shareable, it's prepared medium rare unless otherwise told. Our slice had a bit of gristle, but it was well prepared. We placed the smoky-rich marrow on top of the steak as recommended. The sea salt was not needed. Would love to try the pork chop and duck someday. 8) Sliced Cherokee tomatoes, simply dressed with apple vinegar, olive oil and sea salt. Another winning seasonal dish. The also have a tomato Caesar dish with more ingredients. 9) Sticky date pudding. Well done moist version of a classic, served in a cast iron dish with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream. Would have loved to try the seasonal stone fruit and blackberry cobbler and the hand-churned ice cream, which on this night was cantaloupe! Overall an excellent and substantial meal. Unlike some past reviews, the service was fine and very friendly. I enjoy a Michelin-starred fancy tasting menu (where they use tweezers to plate) every so often, but a hearty, rib-sticking but upscale meal like this is also great.

The decor and ambience is absolutely remarkable, so much so that we just had to stare at every detail when walking over to the terrace. Even in the searing summer heat, the terrace offered us a soft, peaceful breeze, so everything felt just right. At the same time, we took advantage of the lovely views of the neighborhood on one side and the beautiful interior of the bar as a centerpiece on the other. Whether having drinks or a meal, this was the perfect setting. Each person on staff was very welcoming and enthusiastic, and they hit the right notes in terms of helping to set the atmosphere. We were recommended the sticky Japanese sweet potato and informed that the skewers would also be delicious and filling. The king salmon skewer and glazed pork belly skewers were indeed amazing. It was obvious that each culinary item was treated with great attention to detail. For me personally, the shoyu, pickled daikon, and rhubarb on the pork belly truly created that perfect bite. Needless to say, I cannot wait for my next trek to the magnificent Checker Hall.
