The employee was giving out freebies and he literally didn't want to give all of the ones he had for him. Like he works there. So disappointing

    Pending charge from last night.

We ordered 2 crown and cokes last night (10/3 or 10/4 after midnight) there was like no crown in either of them and we were charged $36.85 plus he already put a $5 tip on there with our our consent. Making the total for two weak drinks, $41.85?! The math isn't mathing! The place is crawling with young people who could afford these prices?! I suspect we were fraudulently charged and we won't be back. We were there a few weeks ago and this was not our experience. Just something to be looked into by management and be warned as a patron!

Insane fight with no regard to females around them. (Photo after the fight)

Massive brawl broke out and if my friend (who saw it coming up behind me) had not grabbed and pushed me away , I'd be pinned under 5 violent guys, 3 tables, 4 cops like another poor woman was. In the current climate we live in, I was so scared someone would pull out a gun (many people, including my friend, have license to carry in this state and do) lasted almost 3 minutes and we were cowering in thr corner dodging flying wood chairs. 5 stars for quick response of cops who had been patrolling streets outside. Apparently fights are not uncommon in this bar. ****TWO stars for this one customer dancing. I've never seen anyone twerk a concrete floor before.

loved the 'Welcome to Austin' mural inside!

When my friend and I hit up 6th St when we were visiting Austin, we really enjoyed our time at Thirsty Nickel. Unfortunately there wasn't a huge crowd, but we loved the top 40s tunes spun by the DJ and had a blast taking pictures with the Welcome to Austin mural inside the pub. Drinks were delicious and cheap...I remember a rum and coke was only $5 and a Malibu and orange juice was only $6.50. As someone used to $15 drinks in SF, this was a very welcome relief. My friend and I spent a good 40 minutes or so here between all the dancing and pictures, probably the longest we spent at any spot that night. Definitely check it out as you're bar hopping! :)

The music was good, but this is the water from the Orange Home Depot water coolers they have. Enough said

ROCKING live cover band, every song they played sounded just like original. Important when you play some of the best music ever.

I was walking by when I saw a crowd outside of The Thirsty Nickel. Inside was a band rocking out to some of my favorite songs I grew up with. We sat at the bar, while trying not to sing a long to every song. The Band was really good and nailed each cover song. The set list was made up of the best of 90's rock. It was a really fun night so far and I really wanted more of the live music in Austin. As it's getting later in the night, I order vodka with blueberry red bull. The new line of red bull was the whole excuse to order it. A bit sweet, but easy to drink. We left after a couple drinks even though the band was still killing it. The night was nearly winding down and we wanted to sneak in one more spot.

First bar we visited on Sixth Street we ducked because we heard live music. It was a solo act and he was pretty darn good. However as pretty as they were they had barely anyone there so we were wtf but figured it out that they're liquor options are very limited. So we are one of the few here with shiny and new bit not making us think oh yeah this place rocks. It didn't so we moved after one drink. Yeah it's Austin but I'm thinking it's going to be better as we move along and that's what we did.

Good NFL/Bears crowd on this Monday night.
    Chris G.

I came here to watch the Bears (NFL) Monday Night football game. What a great/fun crowd. They do a lot to promote around the Bears games, including bringing in Lucky's Chicago Style Grill to prepare food, which was awesome. Try the dipped Italian Beef sandwiches, ummm good! This location is perfect for bar hopping or taking in a sporting event as they have several televisions. This bar is dead set in the middle of 6th St. This bar is very spacious, room for two bars on opposite sides of the room, beer pong table, adult size connect four game and sitting areas, and a stage for live bands. I had a fun night meeting and drinking with Bears fans!

While it has been a long time since I have been to the Continental club, it still felt truly Austin and very unpretentious. In the Continental Club you are literally I feet away from the live music. A dog was sleeping on stage, which made the place feel homey. The club is small and intimate, exuding a super personal persona. In addition, the sound quality is excellent for such a small venue. Tonight we listened to Hot Club Cowtown...they sounded folksy and a bit country western yet enjoyable to listen to. Folks were boot scooting, so maybe more country western. Mike the doorman was super personable and helpful. He happily provided the WIFI password and was super engaging. In addition, it is important to note the cover was free until 9 pm. Being able to experience a performance like that at ACL, free of charge, felt special in a way that's hard to explain. As my baby used to say, it was COSMIC. Austin City Limits ran the event flawlessly. The staff was kind, organized, and they clearly knew what they were doing. Our seats were super high up, but the view of the stage below was very good. We missed part of the intimate opening set down below right in front of the VIP section (an intentional special treat for them), but it was easy to appreciate why special donors were treated to that moment up close. What really stood out was the second half of the show. Jon Batiste and his band turned the venue into a New Orleans style second line, moving through the crowd, singing/dancing/playing music, eventually making their way up to the upper levels by us.
