1 Star -- Worst Experience Ever at Thomas Tire & Automotive (Southern Pines/Aberdeen) This has been my third time coming back to this shop for the same problem, and I'm beyond done with their carelessness and lack of professionalism. First visit: I paid for an alignment and balance, but my truck still shook around 40 mph and the steering wheel was off-center. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Second visit: I came back to have them redo it, but they said it was "too late in the day" and refused to do the alignment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Third visit (today): I brought it back again hoping they'd finally make it right. Instead, they took my truck for a drive without even asking my permission, and when they came back, there was a strong burnt brake smell. I quickly realized they had driven it with the parking brake still engaged. When I confronted the tech, he said my brakes were sticking -- which is completely false because the truck has brand new calipers and pads installed professionally. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I told him the smell was clearly from the rear because the e-brake was left on, and he literally said, "It doesn't matter."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That comment alone tells you everything about how little care they have for customers' vehicles. I stopped by at 4:15pm, a bit concerned that they close at 5pm and might not be willing to help. They immediately took my vehicle into the shop to check the tire. The waiting area is large, clean, and comfortable. Within 20 minutes they found a screw sticking out of the tire, removed it, patched it, re-inflated the tire, and sent me on my way for less than $30. I bought tires, January 60000 mile warranty. Hey bro I bring them back said, you have a warranty. These tires are breaking down. They're worn really poorly. I want to take advantage of my warranty. It's a scam. They need you to give them the tires, send them back to the manufacturer and in 2 months, they'll tell you. I was first in line for an oil change/tire rotation and balance and I have been waiting for 4 hours for them to complete the work. I walked outside to see the progress and the workers were in a group joking and laughing instead of working. I know for a fact that this could be done in less than 2 hours. I will not be coming back to this place for a service anymore and I will not recommend this shop to anyone. Once I finally got into my vehicle I noticed there was a lug nut sitting in my cup holder and never even told me about it. I got out to check the lugs and noticed they didn't put one on. When I questioned them about it they said that they couldn't get it on, so when the manager found out they put a new on for no charge. This is one of the reasons I will not be coming back. They seem to not care about you or your vehicle as long as they get their money. read more

I went to get a state inspection this morning. Waited in line for fifteen minutes before someone even came out to greet me. Said it would be 1 hour. An hour for a $13 checklist that takes 5 minutes? Only one other car appeared to be in the same line? He admitted they were short staffed but it is their usual timing now. I had an appointment ( made on line at their website) for 1130, but went at 1015, hoping to get an oil change too. He said that would be 1-1.5 hours. During the 20 minutes i waited in their lane, not one car of the two lane work bays in the Express Lube portion of their building budged, moved or exited. (No Express here)! I've been a Thomas Tire customer many times, but most recently they mounted and balanced two tires for me. I called ahead to see how busy they were and they put my name/car down and gave me an approximate time to arrive. I had littles in tow, so I was praying for speedy work and cooperative kids. The front desk men were friendly (chatting, holding the door, offering water) as were the mechanics ("allowing" us to distantly watch their work). I was charged approx $50 and was in and out in under and hour. I was pleased with their service, fee and efficiency. read more

I had my Landcrusier towed from Hamlet , N.C. to their Aberdeen NC Location. Not only did they not stand behind there work , they left my vehicle unlocked and some stole several hundreds of dollars worth of personal belongings. I called and ask them to check the cameras and of course they didn't see anything. Probably one of the employee's. So after paying over $2,000.00 for repairs that was supposed to be guaranteed. I ended up losing on their scam warranty work and one on the employee's who stole my stuff out of my console. Stay away from these lying high priced professional criminals. Tons of reviews which are positive which I felt as well for a while. They repaired an oil intake line which I showed them and said no diagnostic required. Their response was but we have too. Ok I went with that requirement. Part repaired then failed within 4 weeks. By the way they did not charge for the diagnostic fee, good right. Well in the end found out the issue was above that pipe which should have shown on the diagnostic. Then they say after my 2nd visit with the failure ..oh we don't handle your other issue. Never mind also they replaced it with the cheap rubber hose. This was initially in it but the part can be replaced with a metal one. Why wouldn't you do that instead, did you not know that fact? So my is question did it not show up on their initial assessment. Only conclusion is you saw the real issue avoided it to ensure you got paid. Then knowing I would return to them noting the crap they fed me. Then it is ..oh we don't repair the other issue. When called on it again. Multiple answers on it. One we didn't charge you for it, and that was a big go to answer. See, weren't we nice no fee was my impression. The second time was the same response initially. oh I can't speak to what the mechanic did because I did not work on your car (Glenn). Now isn't that on my invoice? Jerry we didn't charge for the diagnostic. Plus we don't complete internal engine issue. So apparently they did me a favor. When they say we did not charge for it be aware you may have a quick fix. If they note it on the form then they are responsible. Mine stated I was told about the diagnostic showing leaked oil, well duh. It spilled out not leaking. Literally all the oil which I told them the issue and what pipe when i initially took it to be repaired. So in the end they screwed me out of $237 bucks and was like oh we don't repair the other issue. Only for me to take it to the dealership which we all know tries to screw you. He said ...oh no that is not the same issue that you told Thomas. This is a totally different line, again playing on their terminology. But it actually was and tried to essentially triple charge. He had a play on words using other names for the exactly the same parts. Parts are $100 in total, purchased myself. Contacted Morganton who will use my parts and awaiting his fee. Interesting right. Don't use them!! After reading the reviews that are the positive ones are they even real individuals. The negative ones seem to have essentially the same scam responses I received. Think the positive reviews are fake especially since they hit on exactly what our negative reviews start. Read them all and you see a trend. Probably what the staff is doing in the back when you think your car is being worked on.. SMH. Wanted to add this as well before my review posted officially. I called a local parts place that was cheaper than Amazon. The guy there said he worked at Thomas and agreed the diagnostic would have showed my issue. He actually made a comment they are shifty and why he was not there anymore!! Look at all the we can not find you in our system or we attempted to call you, really. Do you think someone won't answer after getting totally screwed on a car! A car people not your happy meal. Would you not call? Think of it in that perspective. They are FOS! Stay away. If you are military let me add something else my husband reminded me of at our prior visit unrelated to this issue. informed them it wasn't driving properly and not sure how to explain it. it was not driving smoothly and thought I hear a click when turning the wheel too sharp. Said nothing was wrong and the guy drove it. we drove it again and the husband said I thought they looked it. it still has a shag to it. I googled the issue we suspected of course the brakes! took it back figured my error I was not good at explaining it. But I look back the guy drove it why didn't he see that issue. I recalled what Glenn said after I told him what I think the issue is and he said well those are 2 different things. I said if he drove it why didn't he see the issue. I got some spill of well it depends on fast you drive it etc etc. At the time I thought nothing of it but again you got me back twice. they must get bonuses or some sort of kickback. That Brendon has some positive feedback not sure how absolutely no personality. I thought something may be wrong with him medically, seriously. I am not being funny. he has what is called a FLAT affect/expression. at the time I felt bad but the more I interacted figured he was family . That don't give a shit and what are you going to do about attitude. Notice each time a bad review then 2-3 positive come up so quickly. Fake. no doubt. Watch their trend. After transplanting from Florida I needed a new mechanic and Thomas Tire was both close to my home and immediately responsive. I pulled in for an Express Lube service and they were able to replace my filters and swap out my car battery on top of usual maintenance (oil change and tire rotation), all for under $300. These are my new car guys now, I'll be back for when I need to replace my wheels and get my fluids flushed! Y'all rock. read more

I have come to Thomas Tire & Automotive for years and they are always reliable and always fair. Bobby back in the service department is so easy to work with and strives to do the job correctly. Case in point l, my wife's van had a bad drivers side mirror and Bobby the service manager went out of his way to ensure it was properly replaced by doing it three times and contacting Chrysler and the his parts guys. He is extremely professional and personal and customer service like his is not seen often enough. I wholeheartedly recommend this business to anyone needing auto repair and nee tires. Had a new set of tires installed. I didn't really look over the car until I got home. Driving home I noticed black soot on the door. There was black soot all over the beige leather driver's seat, center console and door. The tires and rims were cover with grease. I did ask the oil bay technician after the third vehicle what was happening? he said some were apparently just inspecting them and they were done since it was fast. I was next in line and told I was next. the same guy who said I was next brought a van in for an oil change that was waiting 45 minutes less than me. I was upset and asked the staff inside what was going on and was told they don't deal with oil change lines take it up with the oil change. apparently basic common sense doesn't apply here. they walk around confused. I did see that they take care of employees cars first over customer cars no matter the wait. Go someone else don't waist you time here ever! read more

Bought my truck in and asked to have the code pulled for a check engine light. 10 minutes later they charged me over an hours worth of labor and when i checked my receipt they even charged me 7 dollars for shop supplies. I talked to the mechanic who pulled my truck around who admitted all they did was plug in the box and as he exited my vehicle with the box in hand. I asked to speak to a manager and the gentleman was dismissive and rude. Even after pointing out that they charged me an hours labor and "fees" (for a service the local auto parts stores do for free) they refused to come to any agreement what so ever. I have no problem paying for a service but never even considered that they would charge 90+ dollars to pull a code, or might have at least mentioned this up front. Service took 3 Hours, which would have taken the most dim mechanic an hour and a half. They serviced my truck then put it in the back of the line of the express station to have it inspected. Then it sat in the front of the shop for 30 minutes before they called me up front. plus side, place is clean and has a play room for kids. Service costs are a little more than what you would expect, but not generously excessive.... They can improve their efficiency with little effort, but don't seem to want that. / Front desk apologized for the delay - said they were very busy / doesn't negate the fact that that I made an appointment. read more

Had an appointment and it took 4 days to get spark plugs replaced. The mechanic was conveniently looking at the vehicle every day when I called for updates. 2 of the times that I called I would get put on hold for 10 minutes before they would hang up on me. Cost me $415 to get spark plugs replaced! I got quotes from 3 other shops around Aberdeen and Pinebluff and all were astonished that I payed that much. I gave them the prices of some recommended repairs by Thomas tire and across the board, Thomas tire is charging double or more! Another issue I had was being charged their "tire protection plan" when they didn't ask if I wanted to add their plan, they just tacked the $120 to the bill. No consulting me what do ever. Charged me $85 for the diagnostic which is insane. I've never had a mechanic charge me for running the diagnostic on my vehicle. My vehicle was actually running worse when I picked it up so I popped the hood when I got home and started looking around and noticed they forgot to plug in 2 of my coils. For $415, you'd think the QC was on point. The customer service is poor too. read more

After unsuccessful attempts to recover the cost of repairs, several letters were sent to the President and Vice President asking for their help in resolving this issue, but all were completely ignored as were two correspondences from Better Business Bureau. My wife took our Ford Explorer to get a new set of tires on our car at the beginning of December 2022. The Aberdeen, NC location didn't have them in stock however the Sanford location advised they could install them for us. Two thousand dollars later after getting a new set of tires as well as brakes and rotors, she was on her way. At the time of purchase, we were notified of a recall from Ford for a rear toe-link replacement which was completed at Crossroads Ford dealership in March of 2023. We have had at least two oil changes during this period from December until now and was never told by anyone at the oil change locations nor from the Ford dealership that our rear alignment was off. Up until a few days ago, a visual inspection of the front tires and what could be seen on the rear showed to be wearing perfectly. It wasn't until two days ago when my wife got a flat tire and it was removed that we saw premature wear on the inside edge of the tire. This was alarming because, number 1, I didn't know that the rear suspension needed to be aligned, and number 2, there were no indications that anything was wrong as the tires are only 10 months old. On top of that now there is a screw in the tire. I called Thomas Tire and inquired about getting a replacement and they stated it would have to be repaired first and then replaced if unsuccessful. The invoice that my wife received when she purchased the tires said "FREE alignment check with tire purchase" so I assumed everything checked out as we weren't told we needed a front or rear alignment. The invoice also states "3 year FREE replacement tire protection plan" which we bought for insurance. Right underneath this it says "The price of each tire will be covered for 3 years, 'NO Hassle!'". To my knowledge the tires were not rotated during this 10 month period because they looked perfect from a customer perspective, plus they were still relatively new. Again, not once during any oil change, vehicle inspection, and recall visit did anyone mention anything about my rear tires or the rear alignment. So, Thomas Tire tells us that the tire is not covered under warranty because we don't have proof of them getting rotated. I went on the website, looked on the invoice, and nowhere can I find where it says the tires must be rotated every 5k miles or else it isn't covered. Thomas Tire says it's because of neglect, and failure to do the recall. This is false because we DID the recall, got oil changes/service within 100 miles of due date, and had it inspected but we "neglected" our vehicle. A phone call to the Ford dealership confirmed our repair. Thomas Tire made us pay for a new tire upon their recommendation and didn't honor the warranty. The NO Hassle promise turned into a big hassle and for this reason, my family along with my in-laws and their family will refuse to go back to Thomas Tire for service or tire purchases. I've bought two sets of tires from them as well as had service done to several vehicles but not anymore. Nice job Thomas Tire, you just lost several customers because of how this was handled. read more

I came to get an oil change and my vehicle inspection done. Go to pay and get told the price is over $280.00. The receipt states they replaced the filters and did a premium fuel system service. That service cost me $114.00! They never came out and asked me if this is something I wanted them to do. They didn't say anything at all to me! This is completely wrong! How can you provide a service that cost over $100.00 without asking the customer if this is something they wanted you to do!! I feel robbed! Even if it's something that needed to be done! I did not go there and ask for that service. It should not be done without my permission and being told how much it will cost me! read more

This is a great place to get your tire service. I had a slow leak and drove o re to Thomas Tire and they took my car right away. While I was waiting with my two kids ages 3 and 4 one of the employees brought a box of brand new toys and they got to pick one, he also put cartoons on while they enjoyed fresh popcorn and bottled water. I called ahead and asked if I could get my tires rotated after an oil change. I was told the oil change station could do both. Which is very impressive. Once at the oil change station I was told they couldn't change my tire because they didn't have the right tool for locking hubcaps. They recommended I buy one. I don't want to buy this tool that's why I go to tire stores. I'm sure at the automotive section they have the right tool. But at oil change station they do not! Also check your oil when you leave the station. After having my car serviced I drove to Florida. I always check my oil after a long drive. The oil stick was below E! Not a joke. Thank goodness I checked it or I would've blown my engine. Since then I've checked my oil to see if it was a car problem. But is not. The employees at Thomas tire were all very polite and professional. They did not try to upswell me to more expensive tires and actually recommended a set that was less expensive. Free rotation and plugs for flats as well for the life of the tires! They were also able to squeeze me in right away and had everything done in a little over an hour. read more

Dishonest - avoid them like the plague. We came for rear brake job ... they quoted $575 for all 4 brakes + 2 new rotors. Said the back rotors had a "deep groove" in them that couldn't be fixed. Said the front brakes were too worn and needed replacement too. We had the car checked at another shop and then had the job done for less than $100 (back brake only). Had Thomas Tire been honest and only done the rear brakes, it would have cost around $200 with them so their prices are NOT reasonable when compared to other options in the area. But the real issue for us was the lack of honesty & the attempt to gouge us by adding repairs that weren't needed ... - back rotors were just fine - no deep groove, standard sanding and they were back on (so Thomas Tire made that up - which added $150 to the bill) - front brakes are just fine - have 75% or better life left in them, no need to replace (so Thomas Tire lied about that too - which added $175 to the bill) So glad we got a 2nd opinion. HATE HATE HATE auto body shops who take advantage and quote replacements on things that are perfectly fine. Sadly this used to be our regular place to take our cars for oil change (apparently this is how they treat regulars - lie to them and try to gouge them). They have lost our trust and we will never be back. Note: while I was there a tech had to come ask another customer how to put her car in reverse ... it was a newer model Ford but seriously? you're the tech and you don't know how to put the car in reverse? I would have taken back my keys if that was my car (not let him work on the car). I realize techs mainly work under the hood, but they should be current on all basic mechanical functions (especially since that model has been out for the better part of the year) ... yikes! read more

Run the other way. Called on a Thursday while on vacation to make an appointment for Saturday and told them I would drop it off on Friday evening. I spoke to Jerry and Bobby and was told didn't need an appointment and when I brought car in on Friday was told they couldn't fix it on Saturday. I cut a vacation short to get the car to them. Then when I spoke to Bobby in person, that I had spoken to on phone he lied and said he didn't say what he did on the phone. No use for a liar and if they'd lie about something that simple, glad it didn't cost me any money to find out how the people in charge will lie. read more
