Had to replace my downdraft electric range and scheduled an appointment with Thompson after getting their contact from a local Albert Lee store. Getting an estimate and making an appointment was easy and they were flexible when my range delivery was delayed by Albert Lee. Got a cancellation and was able to get the range installed sooner. The installation crew was very polite and professional, very considerate to protect the floors and new range. Did a fantastic job to cut the granite and hook up the downdraft range and adjust the height to a point that almost not seeing any gaps. I don't know why those negative reviews here but I think I got what I wanted and paid for. read more

They sent me a very high estimate with all these notes on how I could be charged more if they find all these unexpected modifications or materials not listed. Had a Wolf microwave that wasn't heating. After repeated calls to them, finally I received a call back and Thompson booked me for a slot, two weeks out, from 9am-1pm. At 1:30, I called to check in, no answer, left a voicemail. Called again at 2pm, same thing. Thompson called back shortly after stating that the tech was running late, and he'd call shortly. He called a few hours later. On the phone, he did his best to convince me that he didn't need to stop in, that the symptoms I described were easily troubleshot and he knew the issue (door switch(es)). He said he's seen this many times and would get the parts ordered and have the scheduler call me later that day. I waited. Then I waited some more. About a week later, I called back and tried to get an update. They told me they were waiting for ME to approve purchasing (and paying for) the parts that were "needed". Keep in mind, because of their lack of diligence, still no one has even looked at my unit. I told them I wasn't about to fork over my CC details to purchase parts that were a 'guess' from a tech who never bothered to show up. They also confirmed that if the parts I paid for were not the ACTUAL issue, no refund would be issued. Imagine that, you fail to show up as promised, then troubleshoot over the phone, then require me to pay for parts that might fix the problem, then refuse to even consider a refund if what was ordered wasn't needed. Ridiculous. They stated that's their policy and that was it. Don't bother with this place. read more

I'm giving one star to this business only because a rating of no stars likely won't register on the Yelp site. The repairman was timely, knowledgeable and competent. The office staff and owner -- they were something else. We were told on the phone that the service appointment charge would be $135, but were charged $150 when the repairment arrived. When I asked office staff why the difference, they said that the higher charge was because we lived further out than their $135 area. If that's true, their phone clerk should present accurate information. The repairman diagnosed a failed fan on our SubZero refrigerator. He told us he didn't have a SubZero fan on his truck but had another brand that would do the trick but run a little louder. We agreed to use the one he had available and he installed it and went on his way with our check to cover the part, service charge and labor. Given the noise level, we did decide to order the SubZero fan, and paid by credit. Before the day for the second visit, the same problem that prompted the first visit (warm doors, service light blinking) recurred. Installing the SubZero fan solved the problem. We contacted the office to ask that they refund the cost of the first fan, as it clearly was not compatible with the SubZero and we had not been told compatibility would be an issue. Steve, the owner, said he would investigate and get back to me. He didn't. I had to call back, then text, at which point he became very rude and refused to talk any more about the problem. He said no refund because we had asked to get the SubZero fan for the noise issue. We pointed out that the fan would have had to be replaced anyway because it was incompatible and we had never been told that it wouldn't solve the problem. The office never sent actual invoices for our records. I had to ask twice to get copies to see what the actual charges were. We paid for two fans and two labor charges for installation in addition to the service charge. This is not the way customers should be treated and this business should not be certified by companies as an authorized service center. A good business does right by its customers. I would give this place negative 5 stars if I could. For 3 months this company gave me the run around and the worst customer service I have ever experienced (I realize this sounds hyperbolic, but I am serious and not exaggerating). While the woman who I spoke with on the phone was kind and attentive, it seems there are no other good employees at Thompson (including the office manager and the head repair technician). I have a Bosch dishwasher that strangely began to emit steam out of the front of the unit when in the drying part of the cycle. In addition to this problem, the water heater in the unit eventually burned out and failed (still under its warranty period). After speaking with Bosch, upon their recommendation I called Thompson. We scheduled a time for several weeks out when they would come look at our dishwasher. This seemed like a long time to wait, but I had not previously dealt with a problem like this so I figured it was normal. I was also at their mercy since they were the company working with Bosch. A week or so before they were scheduled, they called to reschedule the appointment for another week or so later. Again, I thought this was strange and a bit frustrating, but tried to be patient. Finally, the technician came and confirmed that how I described the problem was in fact true. As he explained that they would order the part for the broken heating unit I asked if they would also be addressing the steam issue. He looked puzzled and said he had not heard of this issue and would talk to his boss about it and get back to me. After a couple more weeks I still hadn't heard anything from them. I called to find out what his boss had said as well as when they would be returning for the heater repair. The receptionist was nice and said she would pass the message along and someone would get back to me. I waited another week or so and still didn't hear anything, so I called again and spoke with the same nice receptionist who apologized and said there was no record of my previous call. This was already around 6 since my first call. The next time I called I complained that no one had ever called me back and though there was again no record of my message being addressed, I was passed along to the head technician to discuss my problem. He told me that he had never talked to the other tech about this issue nor had he ever heard of the problem. He said they wanted to fix the heater first and then see if this was still an issue. I decided this was satisfactory and I needed to wait. Over one month after their visit to my house, I finally got a call to schedule the install of the new part that had arrived. It's hard to say whether this took so long because of Bosch or Thompson. Regardless, the soonest time they could get a guy at my house was a few weeks out, but I was so happy that we were finally going to have our dishwasher working, I tried not to focus on how awful this whole experience had been. The problem was, it was about to get worse. I took the day off of work so I could be present at the time they were set to do the repair. I waited and waited and finally just before the end of the 4-hour window (that they originally gave me) I called them to confirm they were still coming. When they looked at the schedule they said I wasn't on it! Mind you this was over 2 months since my initial call! I couldn't believe it. I calmly requested that something be done about this and they were able to get a guy out to our house within a week. When he finished repairing the heater, he went to replace the door he had removed (which I later learned was not necessary for this particular issue) and he broke the hinge! I was dumbfounded. But he promised to come back and fix it soon (which he did). I asked about the steam issue which I had talked with him about 7 weeks prior on his first visit and he looked confused again. I said I had called 4 times since then and no one could tell me if they were going to fix this problem. He again said it's a strange issue and he would have to talk with his boss about it as he left quickly. I called *AGAIN* and this time spoke with the office manager at length who said she would fix the problems. She said she would talk with Bosch about this issue because they had never heard of it. After a little while she called me back and said that they had concluded that this was how my dishwasher was designed to work! She spoke condescendingly to me, explaining that "of course steam comes out the front of the dishwasher, there's hot water inside and it has to go somewhere." This is not true, the steam is designed to leave the dishwasher through the drain. She then told me they were closing my file because my dishwasher was working fine now (it DEFINITELY wasn't). I strongly recommend against using Thompson Appliance. Their initial installation quote was nearly doubled by the time I received my final invoice. I had a downdraft duel fuel oven and replaced it with the exact same type of oven - the installers had to make a few minor adjustments (less than a quarter of inch cuts on wood countertops) to get the oven in. During the installation, at no point did anyone explain to me to that the installation would be costing almost twice the original estimate. My card was charged for the full amount of the invoice without ever being sent the invoice or receiving any explanation for the increase in cost. Despite multiple calls to the company, I never received a call from the manager/owner or any explanation for the difference in cost. Throughout the install, the workers continued to take cigarette breaks right outside my house instead of finishing up. I also had to clean my entire kitchen from the sawdust that was left everywhere. Then, on the day of delivery, the manager called 45 minutes AFTER my 2:00 delivery time and canceled my delivery for that day. They wanted to reschedule for the following week. When the installer called to confirm he would not deliver, I had to be persistent about his returning my dishwasher to the appliance store. They moved & installed the fridge wonderfully, and even cleaned it when they were done. After they left, we noticed the bottom of the fridge wasn't aligned with the bottom of the cabinets, and they came back and adjusted it for us. If I could give Thompson Appliance a zero rating I would. I was referred to them by Albert Lee and after my experience I went back to Albert Lee to strongly suggest they stop referring folks to Thompson Appliance but it fell on deaf ears. One has to wonder what Thompson is giving Albert Lee to continue getting referrals despite the multitude of angry customers there are. I had a very detailed conversation with their scheduler regarding having my new dishwasher installed. I had already had another installer out for a different dishwasher so I was prepared with all of the extra details needed to get the job done. Our dishwasher is located in an island and there were some extra details regarding that and the location of the pipes. When the installer arrived he looked at our kitchen setup ... went under the house to look at the pipes and then informed us they couldn't do the install because they weren't prepared and the scheduler had not informed them of the set up of my kitchen. I was ok with them rescheduling but then they informed me they were going to charge us a fee for coming out and doing an "inspection".... Something that was never mentioned to me prior to their arrival or even before they did the "inspection" that day. They entered my home under the premise of doing an install - looked at my kitchen and pipes so they could do said install THEN informed us there would be a charge and no install. Needless to say, I was not happy. This wasn't our mistake... so I shouldn't be getting charged because their employee failed to give them all the information necessary for them to be prepared that day. The owner Steve has absolutely vile business practices and no integrity as a business owner. They require a credit card to hold your appointment just so they can take advantage of customers if it suits them and there is no recourse. They never provided a quote in writing and I was foolish and trusted them based on how I was referred to them. We had a Wolf cooktop installed by Thompson Appliance. I was told they could not give me an estimate of the installation cost before they arrived as they did not know the situation and parts needed for the install. We were given a 4 hour window of when they would arrive and, of course, we were last on the list. When they were finished the cost was $273.00 for the job. I asked that a receipt be emailed to me and the installer assured me that the gals in the office always sent a receipt. I'm still waiting for that receipt from a job completed two weeks ago. The installer said they would return the warranty card if I would fill out the information needed. Since they were returning the card, I would get an additional 1 year warranty from their business. Today I received an email from Sub-Zero Wolf thanking me for purchasing the extended warranty. I NEVER authorized the purchase of an extended warranty. My husband and I never buy extended warranties as we self insure on all products. Buyer beware, ask for an itemized amount when you pay for service from Thompson Appliance. I have used Thompson Appliance twice now since the lockdown and they have been great both times. The first was installing a new gas stove when our old electric one broke. They did need to come out twice as on removing the old stove, we found out it was hard line connected to electric rather than using a plug, so there was an extra visit fee, but understandable. An electric specialist came within a few days to put in the required electric socket, and the install was done the same time and been working flawlessly. (We already had put in a gas line into the crawl space underneath.) The second was with a new dishwasher, and this was installed with professionalism also. Cost was very high (over $1000) supposedly because driving time to project location. The downdraft wasn't work property after install. I called them several times to get through and was told they would discuss the issue with the installer that came over. Feedback I received was they they would only come back if I paid another (very high) fee. I escalated again and was promised the owner would call me back. The owner never called back. I had a gas stove and microwave installed by Thompson Appliance. Albert Lee was booked after their big sale. Kennedy was very friendly and helpful when making the appointment and giving me a quote. When installing the microwave we needed longer screws due to the way the cabinets were made. So, we had to wait a for longer screws. After a couple of day I called them to reschedule and to check on the screws. The reschedule was to the 18th. They called me to ask me where the screws were. I said I did not have them, or handle them. I did not know where they were. She called back later and told me the service techs left them in the box and someone would be out to pick them up to match for longer screws. After four plus days they still did not have or get the screws needed until the day of installation. What started as the second appointment and became the last one. The Techs on both installation days were friendly and did a great job. On the second installation the price did not match the quote. I called today and the woman who answered the phone made me feel incompetent and dumb by her tone of voice. I only called to go over the billing. I even asked if she could soften her tone. I was told she didn't have a tone and proceeded in the same manner. I felt if I called back it would do no good to complain because from my stand point her attitude was one of a relative who didn't have to change her tone. I had enough of the tone and she was not listening to me...I did hang up on her. I did not raise my voice or get angry but enough was enough. As far as questioning my bill, I will pay for it, I had already listened to long. This is the review SHE is left with. I am giving them 3 stars because of her tone. Otherwise the guys who came out to the house would have 5 stars for the company review. Next time I will be more patient knowing it will take longer but will schedule through Albert Lee. They have been great to work with! We built a house, bought appliances from Albert Lee and needed them to be installed a couple months AL delivered them - timing was off with the appliances being ready versus installation. AL told us to use Thompson so that we didn't lose the extended warranty time after the manufacture's lapses. Which was a excellent recommendation since we have now used that warranty bonus. Getting on the schedule isn't quick because they are busy - which is good for business - and I stuck with them. They were easily out to my place three times to get it all done with what transpired. I can't be upset with any of this because life isn't perfect and when building, really what goes as planned? The installers were courteous and respectful for all the times they were out. Being out on the peninsula, we don't have choices for repairmen so I am grateful for Thompson, appreciate them and happily recommend them. read more

"No problemo" says the installer, "just call us when you do get the part and we will come out for no charge". Hilarity ensued attempting to get the part. Attempting to get a returned call when the part arrived proved enjoyable...followed by an entertaining conversation about how new policies are now utilized and I will be charged for finishing the job. Yes, I paid in full for the partial install. Now I am kicking myself for trusting that this company would honor being paid in full for partial work. This is a review about pricing and the attitude of the owner of the company. I have not and cannot imagine ever using Thompson Appliance for the following reason: I asked for a quote to reassemble my Aga Cooker. I received a quote of $8-$10000 (yes, thousand). I had a similar job done in 2011 - however, at that time, the cooker was dismantled and reassembled. That cost $2500. This quote from Thompson was for just for the assembly. When I inquired as to why it was so much, I was told (and I have this in writing) the owner was adamant about the price because we needed it and they were the only ones in the state who could do it. This, to me, does not inspire trust. I did call Aga of North America and they put me in touch with somebody else. Who is in the state. And will charge a reasonable fee. Just sayin'... read more

Had a broken Bosch dishwasher. The initial guy who came out to inspect it said that it had two broken pumps, both the drain pump and the circulation pump. He said that was very odd, given that it is only a few years old. Told us that Bosch is normally a good brand, but unfortunately this would be an expensive repair (estimated at $400), so we might want to look into replacing it. We were charged about $100 for this initial service call, which is the going rate. We looked into new dishwashers, but decided to get it repaired as the cost of a new one would have been too high, so we called Thompson back. They quickly ordered the parts and had a different guy come out to fix in about four days later. The cost was about what was originally estimated and it now works as well as it did when it was new. Both technicians were on-time, responsive to questions, and seemed like they knew what they were doing. While the first guy could have told me anything, the fact that he suggested that we look into a replacement instead of having them fix it made me think he was honest. I've had many so-so experiences with appliance repair in the past, so these guys were better than I expected. Will definitely call them in the future if we need something fixed. read more

I purchased a new dishwasher from a local appliance store. They could not do the install where I live, but said they had an installer, Thompson Appliance. Thompson would do the install and remove the old dishwasher. So I went with them, instead of looking up my own installer. I was quoted $175.00 plus tax on a basic install. They partially installed the new dishwasher, and took away the old one. They claimed they could not get the new dishwasher in due to a pipe in the back. This baffled me, as the new dishwasher was the same size as the old one. They charged me $215.00 for "putting" in the new dishwasher and adding a new hose onto it. I could use the dishwasher, but it was not secured or pushed all the way back in. When I called to see what was going on, I was told there were 2 options-move the rail on the dishwasher, or have a plumber look at the pipes, and see if it could be cut away or moved, however they would needed to consult with the owner on how to proceed. Well, I waited 2 days, till the owner finally reviewed everything. He wanted to have a plumber look at it, and see what the pipe was for. They sent out a plumbing company they use. By this time, it was a week after the original "installation". The plumber came to look for free and told me it would be $500.00 to move the waste pipe behind the dishwasher, which would require them putting in new pipes, going under the house, etc. When I ran the plumbers information through the Washington state databases, I confirmed his plumbing license, but his business was not in the state contractor database. So I called a local plumber with good reviews, who was in the state database and up to date on his insurance and bond. He installed the dishwasher, and did not have to MOVE the pipes. He moved the rail, like the install guy from Thompson originally suggested. It is now properly installed, but cost me an additional $322.00 for the time, plus tax. I have now paid more for installing my dishwasher, then I did for the actual machine which I bought on sale for $440.00. Very frustrating. I am tempted to contact Thompson's for a partial refund on their "install", but am not sure if it is worth the grief of dealing with them. I purchased a new stove top and dishwasher from a local retailer. They referred Thompson Appliance to do the install. We were replacing an old thermador stove top and they did an awesome job. They even installed a dishwasher that I was planning to do myself. I was a little nervous as Thanksgiving is just a day away and with 35 people coming we would be sunk if they didn't deliver. They did the job for the price that they quoted and cleaned up when they left. I would recommend them to anyone. Thanks for making it happen! read more

KUDOS to Nick & Kyle from Thompson Appliance and Services of Tacoma (and to Nicole, for arranging the appointment) for a prompt, competent, and professional installation of a new electric cooktop in my kitchen. Others tried, or did not wish to try you (like Home Depot, where I bought the thing and...let's just say that Home Depot has really poor service) as the install required enlarging the cutout in my countertop. I cannot give these people even one star. They did okay with the install, but then tried overcharging for it. They did scratch the hardwood floor (these things happen). Very unpleasant people to deal with and I would not at all recommend them. The overly aggressive and condescending attitude was incredible. As an independent witness commented "That guy (owner) is sure used to bullying people, he came in here thinking he could bully his way around." We didn't pay the over charge. read more
