Mobsters and Lobsters is a mafia story laden trip that ends up at the south shore popular lobster eatery. Although Mother Nature and the traffic in downtown Boston decided yo play games with us the owner who's name actually is Tom Collins, started off with a quick quip yo get the folks settled and the first round of beverages were begun. Tom brings us around to the spectacular locations and spots where specific mobsters from the years past were doing their cunning and not so cunning work. Tom's knowledge for this thoroughly interesting topic is unmatched. His serious knowledge of the history of other significant historical places and events speckled with his dry "Bastan" humor. Made this trip extremely worthwhile. The duration was four hours long which also included a Lobster dinner at a local eatery on the south Boston harbor. I haven't laughed this hard in a long while. If you are in beantown for a spell. I highly recommend you and you motley crew join Tom for an interesting alcohol added trip back in time. Katie was an excellent guide and provided visual aids (laminated maps of the city and more), great historical knowledge, and had a warm personality. She explained the history of the food we were having as well as other not-so-well-known-facts of Boston. We learned more from her in three hours than we did from another tour we took while visiting. Here is what we ate on our tour: Baked beans and brown bread, clam chowder, a lobster roll, and Boston cream pie. All of the places we experienced these foods had a unique history of their own. Our favorite was the clam chowder. The lobster roll was stuffed with lobster and came with fries. The beans were heavy on molasses, and the Boston cream pie was okay...not what we thought it was going to be. But it sure was pretty! We highly recommend this tour if you visit Boston. Mainly it was so disappointing because it was what our birthday girl was hyped about. We went on a sibling trip to Salem. The sister we were celebrated loves ghosts tours and was so excited to learn more about the history of Salem. The only history we learned was about the tour company. Our tour repeatedly told us about how old the tour company was. So I guess that was the historical element. We also learned a lot about her personal life. We were repeatedly reassured that once other groups moved she'd take us closer to the buildings so we could see them (often we were either across the street or half a block away) but then never followed through on any of those promises. She did however lead us into the backyard of one of the properties where we were chased out by security. Two of our sisters got frustrated and dropped out to get a beer after they watched an elderly man in our group fall off the sidewalk trying to keep up with our tour guide who the people in the back could neither hear or see. I haven't been on other tours and it was just kind of meh. But my sister who is passionate about both history and ghost tours was very let down. We went in very early September and it wasn't very crowded. But I can't imagine the quality of tour you'd get when there's more crowds to contend with. I think the guide really makes or breaks the tour and hopefully it was just a really off night.

Our guide, Aviva, did a great job balancing engaging the group with french fry history (who knew there was so much!) and Harvard Square info, with letting the group's conversation evolve naturally. We lucked out with a very amicable group. We went to 4 different spots. They made a point (a few times) to highlight local businesses which was great. The tour was designed around going from the earliest history of donuts to the future of donuts, plus a side bar on churros. The tour was very short and the only feedback I would give for improvement would be to include a bit more walking between stops, although I get that the shops are all very close together, it would have been good to have a bit of time to digest. And I would recommend bringing water/a drink to wash down all the donuts. The cost was about $48 after fees and we got a good amount of donuts samples plus a Greek coffee. A couple of the businesses also brought some nice treats for the people on our tours whose birthday it was which made it extra special. This was a really nice way to explore some local businesses, eat really delicious donuts, and learn a bit about the history of the donut. Overall I would recommend.

Masks are required on transportation and while the crew handed masks out to people boarding the ferry, they didn't ensure that passengers kept them on once the ferry left the pier. And the crew didn't wear them either. I get that most of the passengers were outside as was the crew and probably most are vaccinated (we are) but either follow the rules or don't hand out masks.
