I had looked everywhere else first online for a place to get my oil changed at a decent price, and found many places offering a "special deal" with a coupon. But after those coupon "discounts", their prices were still outlandish. I felt tricked, like those big companies were doing bait and switch with their ads. Then I saw a recommendation from Costco for honest service through ORR Automotive and called them on the phone. What a difference! Great service, took my car to another shop and they couldnt figure out the problem, the dealership said they couldnt see me for about a week. Then i stumbled across Orr automotive and how grateful i am that i did. While waiting to see what was wrong with my vehicle they put a movie on which seemed to help with the time flying by. I brought the vehicle back to Orr after check engine light came back on. I was happy with the work they did on my previous visit since the truck was running great after they fixed it; however there might have been a previous miscommunication between me and John over the phone. John took me in and apologized for anything he might have said to make me feel like he didn't care. He made it very clear that his intention is to help me. I know it takes a person of very high moral character to take personal responsibility for anything that was said, and not only apologize, but really try to make things right. I really was wrong about John. I didn't think there was anything to make right since they did a good job the first time; however I can tell that John really cares and genuinely wants to provide the best possible service. I am extremely impressed and wasn't expecting such a positive outcome. John took the vehicle in and took care of the issue. He really went above and beyond my expectations. Needed a drive belt tensioner installed on my 2014 Honda Accord. Had a bad experience with PepBoys just to get it diagnosed. Called Nate at Orr and he gave me a quote right away since I knew what it was. Scheduled service the next day. Even though my office is further away than typical clients, Nate had me dropped back off at work. He double checked the diagnosis, offered to see if there were less expensive alternatives. Kept me informed of what was happening and had the car repaired faster than it took Pep Boys to even look at my car. Nate even followed up with by phone the next day to make sure the repairs were satisfactory. Good people and that makes for good business. read more

Great customer service!! I was desperately trying to get an oil change. And I have been looking on Yelp to find a good auto shop. I found this on Yelp and decided to check it out. They told me that my car may need a synthetic oil, but since I have no knowledge about my car, I just decided to go ahead and let them do it. They said that without an appointment, I may have to wait for three hours, so I decided to go somewhere first and left my car with them. Less than two hours, they called and told me that my car was ready. Also, the price that they originally told me was for Toyota Prius, but my car was Toyota Yaris. They apologized and adjusted the price for me. I also did use the check-in coupon with Yelp and were able to lower the cost down. Overall, I think they are great! Awesome customer service! I saw the reviews and decided to call for a quote to get my car's clutch totally repaired, since it was fully worn out. They gave a very fair price of about $650, but had to add an extra $250 to repair the flywheel as well, since it was damaged too. The car was dropped off when they closed and was able to leave it their garage no problem. They fixed it by the end of the next day! Also, they were able to refill the transmission oil, since they found out it was low, AND they found some leak in the rear of the car and plugged it, all free of charge!! They are very professional and excel at their job! Very pleased with how they treated me and how they updated me with details on my car's progress. I've been going to Orr for a few years now. Recently, I was at-fault for an accident I got into on the freeway. It was just before the holidays and I was late for a family gathering. I more or less walked into the shop in hysterics. John walked me through the whole process of making a claim and getting a rental car, and within the hour I was on my way. My insurance is a bit complicated, but John went to bat for me with them and made sure that all the damage was fixed and I only had to pay my deductible. Later, when I noticed a crack in the windshield that both my insurance adjuster and the mechanics had missed due to a parking permit sticker--he helped me through reopening the claim and making sure that it was taken care of. I could not recommend this shop more highly. They will work with you on finances, rental cars, and are honest about the state of your car. Especially as a woman, it is incredibly difficult to find reliable mechanics who will be honest with you about the state of your vehicle for a reasonable price. They are bar-none for automotive service in the Inland Empire. read more

I tried to give these guys the benefit of the doubt until it began to fester. I generally do not like leaving bad reviews for any business, but how else will I be able to express my experience, and how else will the business learn to strive to improve their processes... My situation happened back in July when I was starting to have cooling system issues. My Durango was nearing the "H" on the temperature gauge in normal driving and the needle vacillated a great deal between mid-range and the "H". It never broke down, but I proactively dropped it off at this shop based on the good reviews I read from here. Their diagnosis was a faulty radiator fan clutch, a coolant leak, and an unrelated upper ball joint problem. I agreed with the final $1.3K price and picked up the vehicle when they called to say it was ready at the end of their shop day. Driving away I was definitely able to hear the new fan clutch engaging with what was synonymous to a Boeing 747 taxiing down the runway for a takeoff. On top of that, I really had to floor the accelerator to get the truck to move with the fan engaged. I tried to adjust to all of this, but it was far too much of a compromise. A few days later I called and spoke with John to explain my concerns. I was advised that it was to be expected, but if I still insisted, I could bring it back to have them take a look. So, off I go to take it back. Here's where I REALLY was treated like a dullard. First, the mechanic on duty (not the one who did the original job) said he wasn't sure if the replacement part was Mopar unless he took it off to inspect. The manager apparently didn't know either, citing that perhaps they replaced my worn fan clutch with a heavy duty one instead, and that it doesn't matter one way or the other if the part was OEM because they all come from the same place. Then, after the mechanic drove the vehicle around the block, he came back to say he heard nothing! The real kicker is I was then asked to go back home and drive it for an additional week; maybe the silicone inside the unit had settled from sitting on the shelf for a long time, and that was causing it to engage all the time is what I was told. When I asked if the part was a thermal unit, I was pretty much told that fan clutches don't work based on the temperature. Needless to say I was pissed and insulted, but did not lose my composure. I drove it another week to no avail. After that additional week of driving it around to give the part a chance to "break in", I called back and demanded something be done. The manager stated that if I bring it back to get the part replaced, I would not be able to ever bring it back again under the so-called warranty they provided. Fine. I just wanted to be able to safely drive my vehicle again, get some horsepower back to minimize getting hit while trying to merge into traffic, and not have to crank the radio up to max to drown out that cursed fan. I explained my annoyances and the utter lack of respect I was given. After dropping off the vehicle again in the morning hours, I waited until almost an hour before closing to check the status. No one had even bothered to call to say it had been finished hours ago. I get there, and of course the manager is nowhere to be found. The one positive experience I had came from Nate who did the work on the second time. In just a couple of minutes, he made all the difference in the world. First, he apologized for all the inconveniences and stated he tried two different replacement parts to see which would be quieter. He even brought out a model of the part to demonstrate how it works. I instantly recognized that as a true pedagogical moment because I have been a college professor for the past 10 years. I wish he could help train the rest of the staff on his methods because not only is it professional, but the visualizations also help to ease the customer and includes him/her in process more so. The last thing I will mention is that I started having cooling problems again about a month later, the exact same symptoms. I was in Costa Mesa during that time, so I stopped by a Meineke. Essentially, I was leaking coolant from the water pump. I gave the service advisor a brief synopsis of my experience at Orr, but it did not matter. I was still in need of repair for a previous job that was quoted as only "placing a bandaid" on the problem by only changing out the radiator hoses. With a recommended tune up based on milage, add another $1.2K to my total repair bill. As consumers should already know when searching for services, caveat emptor!! Orr Automotive, no one is perfect, but at least try to do better by all of your customers. read more

Recently bought a 2008 Saturn Outlook XR from CarMax and the water pump wasn't working (causing the car to overheat). I had the MaxCare extended warranty and had to find a local mechanic that worked with this warranty coverage. I was impressed by Orr's reviews, so I took my car in. Nate exceeded my expectations. The car is running better than I when I purchased it. He even called the local Enterprise Rental to get me a free upgrade to a loaded Minivan (to haul my kids around) while my car was in the shop. He got me thousands of dollars worth of repairs (without going above my deductible) by standing his ground with the MaxCare inspector (the whole process took almost 3 weeks because MaxCare "takes their time"). Honestly, John, Nate, and Chris are the greatest guys ever. My 17 year old (but only 65,000 mile!) Mercury Sable has given me nothing but trouble after driving it across the country, but the guys over at Orr have been so helpful and patient trying to work the myriad of problems this car has had. I came in to Orr because AAA recommended it in my area. Initially, Orr diagnosed my problem as a "dead cell" battery. This seemed surprising to me as the battery was just a year old, but he said sometimes it just happens, and knowing little about cars, I was apprehensive but it seemed reasonable. No less than a week later, my car was having problems again, so I called up Orr a bit irate, but John remained friendly, despite my clear irritation. They gave it a look, and found that the alternator seemed to be having issues as well, likely the result of the shoddy battery that had previously been in the car. The next day, my car was STILL having problems (slow to start, as if the battery had been drained overnight), and while I was was tempted to take my car elsewhere, incredulous that they hadn't fixed my car, I gave Orr one last chance. Turns out my car had a very bizarre intermittent battery drain coming from the stereo controller system, which was difficult to pinpoint and so intermittent that neither I nor they had noticed it before (and hadn't been actively occurring when I brought it in before, but was acting up this time). While it took some time, Nate and John went above and beyond trying to get this thing fixed for me in a timely and cost effective manner, staying overtime and calling places all over the inland empire to find the part needed for such an old car, and they were incredibly transparent and kind throughout the whole process. John even explained to me how all of the different components had linked together, which for someone interested in learning more about how car parts work, was great! If you want them to explain to you how things work and how they did the work, just ask - it's cool to learn about these things from guys who really know their stuff! Ultimately, Orr prides itself in honesty, integrity, and quality, and that's absolutely what you'll get when you come here. I called and Orr Automotive and they stood behind their work and replaced my failed part. Would have cost me twice as much to have the work done at Firestone. Orr originally charged half of what Firestone charged. Orr Automotive charged me Nothing. What honesty and Integrity just as it is stated on their front door. Unless you are a cat, the squealing from under the hood is usually not a pleasant sound when you start your car. Being a student on limited budget, you quickly learn to adapt and acclimate to certain situations until it was in dire need for replacement. That, or because my tummy has a certain need for sushi buffets that paramounts other necessities. The main reason that drew me into Orr was because my car was due for an oil change and once again I turned to my trusty pennysaver mailer for quick reference. John was helpful and took my car in and made sure to check if I needed the car back by a certain time. When I received a call back and there were other "things" that needed fixing, I knew it was time my serpintine belt needed to be replaced. Price was fair and John told me to bring my car back if it still made noise and he can make adjustments. Good thing is, it seems like they fixed the mouse problem under my hood. read more

I seriously shop around when it comes to fixing car problems because I know some places will charge you thousands of dollars when reality, you should be paying couple hundred. I've also made a mistake of finding somebody off craigslist to fix my car because now that car is no longer drivable and had to get rid of it. These guys will help you out without ripping you off. I went through John and he was professional even though I was irritated from the other companies I've called. At the end of the day, they got the job done and I didn't get ripped off. I have a unique experience today I never had entire life. I went to check my transmission fluid leaking second opinion because my last routine oil check, I was told that there may be possible transmission oil leak and may need replacement of gasket. I went to Orr Automotive for second opinion and I knew Mr Orr before and lt has been several years. I noticed that there are different guys this time. I asked what papered to Mr Orr and they told me He is working part time only. Anyway they told me that I have to leave my car at the shop and they will provide shuttle service to my home. It was around 10:00 am. I did not hear anything by 1:00pm . I called them and asked that they checked my car. He told me that he called my home phone and I already gave them permit to repair my car. I told him that I never got phone call from him and I have been home ever since they gave ride. I asked what they are going to repair and he told me that they found oil leak on transmission, water tank and engine oil costing me $955.00. I protested that I did not receive phone call regarding this and absolutely I did not give them repair permission. They keep telling me and threatening to hang up phone. I realized that they are so rude so I decided to go their shop. I went to there and I saw my car. I asked what they did anything so far? They said that they did not do anything yet. I told them again that I will pay their diagnostic job and I do not repair my car in their shop and wants to take home. They keep repeating that they got repair permit through phone on my home phone. I told them that I am the owner And I never gave them permit to repair my car and never talked to him regarding this. Because they are so sure through phone conversation before, I already check with my phone company that they did not make phone call to my home before I return to their office. I bagged to take my car so I can take my car home. They told me that since my car is in their property, it is entirely up to them and it may take 2-3 weeks. I finely told them that I may have to talk to my lawyer and they become really nasty and two owner? Keep talking that once my car is their promise, it is law that it is entire on their decision that when I can take my car back. At this point, there is no sense to talk to them anymore and I went to my lawyer's office to discuss this matter. My lawyer was not in office and I talk to office clerk to arrange to meet my lawyer. When I drove back home, I got phone call that they made mistake that they talk completely different person with different car and different phone. I am not sure why they found it now. I asked phone number they called and name of person they spoke when I was their office. They insisted that time that they were acting like their phone in front me at that time and told me my house phone number and my first name they called. When I got their office, he handed me my key without any apology or explanations I found that old owner mr Orr is not owner anymore. What a experience and my BP went up probably double. This place is still GREAT! Had to get my VW Golf TDI towed here because of a massive oil leak. They looked at it right away and did a lot to save me money (including giving me a free part) . Best of all, they showed me the old part (turbo system), how it worked, and where the leak was. Not every shop will take the time to do this, especially for a girl. They even cleaned trash I had left in my car (oil containers). HIGHLY recommended--honest, good prices, and take the time to discuss options and answer any questions you have. read more

Terrible attitude. Moved out to the Claremont area from Pasadena. Visited the shop first time just to inquire about setting up appointment for an oil change service. Guy immediately starts lecturing me about the "standard practice" in the "automotive service industry" to justify why his business is unable to clearly specify a time window for a standard oil and filter change + fluids check service. Does it take 1 hour? 2 hours? a half day? He couldn't or wouldn't say, just made it seem like I needed a special lesson about his industry and why his time was so much more valuable than mine. His waiting room was full of people just...waiting, which should have given me some indication of how much his business values customer time. When I told him that I appreciated the insight into the way he does business and that I already have abundant experience -- some 20 years -- in working with good auto mechanic shops from east to west coasts, most recently in Pasadena, this guy immediately starts questioning those good people's business practices. Well, he says, if they can get you out in 30 minutes, their business must be slow or they must not be thorough. Oh, please. When I say that maybe the other mechanics I've worked with have more staff or a management system that helps them accurately estimate time, the guy was completely dismissive. No, no way, he says, they've got to be doing something wrong. Yeah, sure. Meanwhile he's the one unable to tell me how long it will take him to do a basic oil change service. Bottom line, this place is full of superior attitude to cover a lack of professionalism and courteous customer care. Won't be back, better off avoiding. Cannot imagine why they have all of these positive reviews; their customers could do much better if they shopped around a little. read more

I can't even begin to explain my frustration with Orr Automotive. (Who ever answers the phone in the morning is rude. Nate is helpful, kind of?)I took my car in for a check engine light/ac/heater and a few minor checks. I was quoted a day for everything to be good. A week later, finally got my car back. Not even 2 days later the check engine light was back on and my A/C unit was broke again . Took it in, they payed for a rental. Maybe 4 hours later I got a call saying it was ready, came back to ONLY my heater working. Waited about 45 minutes and the had to put me in another rental. 2 weeks went by without a single word of contact before it was finally finished. My car was finally fixed. Not long after, I realized none of my break lights worked (all 3) called them, and they didn't remember the exact case or what they did. Found out they didn't put the fuse back. Ended up just going to store and watched a YouTube video on how to replace it myself. Never will I ever do business with Orr Automotive again. Save your time and money.... read more

I was in a desperate situation so their ability to take care of my daughters car in short order was very much appreciated as it was Friday and she needed her car to be able to return to the Bay Area by Sunday afternoon. Jim Orr has built a business here on his reputation. The rarest thing there is -- an honest mechanic. You can take your car here and trust him to do what is needed and not waste money on what isn't.
