Double Espresso Con Panna at 3 Bees Coffee
    Julie W.

The line went pretty quick, one cashier and one barista in an interesting oldish style building. I had my favorite double espresso con panna. Espresso was not overly bitter and it had just enough whip cream. No seating available inside or outside on a Sunday at 3 pm. They had Turkish delight so I'll be back to try it next time time I'm in the area

Hands-down my favorite coffee shop anywhere! Rafat and his staff are so warm and friendly. Their coffee is consistently delicious and the pastries always fresh. They offer a variety of snacks and delicious treats, with plenty of tables & chairs inside and outside. Support local businesses as often as you can!

Breakfast burrito with orange juice and camomile tea

Came here for a quick stop and quiet place to work. It's an old building so don't expect modern decor or furniture, but they make the best of it and have everything you need. Order from kiosk, so I got a breakfast burrito, camomile tea and fresh squeezed orange juice. Burrito is heated up so don't expect much but for this little quaint cafe, it does the job to quench your thirst. Drinks both served in larger than expected containers. Service is fast and accommodating. Given the namesake, I was, however, expecting honey packets or honey jars somewhere. That's all...

I want to support local coffee houses but my latte was so bad I ended up throwing it away. It was extremely bitter and tasted like old espresso grounds. It's a shame because I really wanted to like this place too. 3 stars because I'm being generous, but I won't be back.

Rafat, thank you for a great experience and delicious vanilla latte.

Loved my experience at Three Bees Coffee House, the delicious vanilla latte and my interaction with Rafat the owner. As a supporter of small business, it was easy to be a fan of Three Bees. Not only were their drinks tasty, I can also appreciate the hard work he has put in over the past 20 years since he opened the business. This will now be my go to place for coffee, open 7 days a week. Check out the Three Bees Coffee House for tasty beverages and to support small business in San Mateo.

Don't forget to check in on Yelp to get 20% off when you spend $5.00 or more. ( We forgot to check in. We saw the deal after we left the cafe) This cute little mom and pop coffee shop is located right in the heart of downtown San Mateo. They have indoor and outdoor seating. There are metered parking spots right outside of this establishment. There's also a parking garage close by. We were greeted by the friendly owner upon entering the cafe. We ordered the caramel macchiato and the chai tea with almond milk. The caramel macchiato is flavorful and it wasn't too sweet, which we really liked. The chai tea with almond milk was so sweet that we couldn't taste the chai. It was like drinking hot almond milk. The was the worst chai tea that we ever had. We were disappointed with this beverage. This cafe had a great variety of baked goods for sale. The Turkish delights, banana bread, and the lemon bread looked really good. We'll be back to try their other beverages and baked goods.

This coffee shop is very homey. I felt like everyone was family and it's thanks to the customer service and locals who were very friendly. They don't have oatmilk but their soymilk latte hit different, so I can't complain! If I lived in the area, I would always be here.

    Oat milk Latte, so cute!

Updating because I returned recently after going vegan: they have an OUTSTANDING vegan/plant based menu! The tofu scramble burrito was delicious and there are lots of pastry options. The staff are so nice and quick!

Empanada, Chocolat' Croissant, French Roast. Just okay. However my Zen Tea from Tazo hit the spot.

Best coffee in San Mateo. The drinks are made the way they should be and you get that old school coffee shop experience--for the same price!

My friend ordered the root beer float with cold brew ice cubes. It was not super heavy, it mixed well, and somehow, the root beer tasted great with the subtle but noticeable coffee flavor. For my drink, I got two shots of espresso. I just needed a quick pick me up! For food, my friend got the chicken tortilla soup. It was absolutely delicious. The shredded chicken and the broth were wonderful, I do wish it had less tortilla strips because they soaked up all the broth if left there for too long. I got the California bagel, which was also delicious. It was a little too much egg for my liking, but the bagel was only $12 which I think is decent for what I got. The Strawberry croissant was TO DIE FOR. I have never enjoyed a croissant as much as this one. Fresh strawberry cream inside, super fluffy and crispy croissant overall. LOVE! Not to mention the cafe is very chic, we sat at a table where we could maximize our sunlight exposure. The servers and cashiers were nice, welcoming, and helpful. So glad we came here!

We walk into the dining room and there were several open tables. The space is pretty big with several people there working on their laptops I ordered a Vietnamese coffee and it was strong and delicious. For food I ordered a bacon cheddar quiche and a mushroom Gruyère toast. The quiche was flavored pretty well it was just a bit dry. And I wish it were served hotter. It came with a simple side salad that was tasty. The mushroom and Gruyère toast ended up being my favorite. The Gruyère got melty from the hot mushrooms and the balsamic drizzle on top was a perfect touch Overall we were very happy with our drinks and satisfied with the food we tried. Would come back to try some of their other menu offerings. The display case is really doing work in making you want to try everything

Noodles were chewier than most beef noodle soups I've had and the beef pieces were very tender and soft. The soup wasn't too spicy by itself and had alot of depth and flavor. -Pro-tip: There is a little self-serve station near the kitchen where you can get add'l condiments like cilantro, green onion, chili, and pickled daikon. SCORE. Add in the cilantro/green onion for a flavor explosion. -Ordered one of the combo noodles + 2 sides. For my sides, I got a blanched bok choy and a fried gyoza. The bok choy was needed to help cut the spiciness of the soup and to add veggies b/c without it, you'd just be having carbs, beef, and soup. Gyoza was a win too. Service: FAST and friendly, just how I like my non-fine dining restaurant experiences. You scan a QR code at the table and then choose an english/chinese option. If you have questions, you can ask the staff, but there isn't a TON of options to choose from, so make it easy on yourself and order a noodle soup. Ambiance: Ample seating at 1:30pm on a Sunday. Didn't have to wait, which was a big plus as all the other restaurants in San Mateo over near 3rd/4th and B street were packed. Overall: Highly recommend and would come again. The crust had those delicious wood-fired charred bits and was the perfect thickness, not too thin, not too thick. They are located right next to a train station. As in, the train is a few feet away from the dining area. Whenever the train stopped, it was so loud and screechy. This happened at least four times while we were having dinner. What I'm baffled by is that they have windows that can be closed, but they didn't close them. We shared four pizzas amongst five people, and it was the perfect amount of food. We got the BBQ chicken, Calabrese + honey, funghi, and Margherita pizzas. The BBQ chicken was my personal favourite, while others liked the Calabrese + honey. I thought that one just tasted like a plain pizza with tomato sauce and honey. I really liked the funghi as well as the cheese was rich. The Margherita was normal. A lot of these pizzas had bitter-tasting leaves instead of something less sharp like spinach. Each pizza was around $20-25. Service was fine.
