Chicken Rice Bowl, a ton of rice not enough chicken.
    franco C.

Was off of work late and wanted to find something relatively healthy to eat, found this place and thought ok looks pretty good why not. Was a little hard to find at first because it is basically inside like a small warehouse, there's no seating btw it's literally a Togo place where your order on a touch pad, no big deal for me because I was planning to take it home anyways. It's pretty decent I think comparable to chipotle in a sense but a bit healthier chicken had good flavor as well. I think my only complaint would be that there wasn't enough chicken in the bowl there was a lot of everything else like cauliflower/rice/ cabbage but I think there was barely like 2 oz of chicken in the bowl. I'm glad I didn't order the wagyu barbacoa, which is more than twice the price of the chicken bowl, because if each bowl has as small a portion of protein as my bowl did I would be upset. I would've given it 4 stars if the protein felt proportionate to the rest of the bowl.

Very good!!!! Only thing is I wish it had more chicken and not a huge amount of rice. The green smoothie is perfect, not too sweet.

Really hearty, tasty and nutritious. The flavors are subtle with so many different ingredients and somehow they all go together perfectly.

Must-try birria spot - I keep coming back for a reason…read more This place is on my list of must-tries for Mexican food, and I've been here countless times at this point. The beef birria tacos are SO good like the flavor, the birria consomme, the sauce, the meat. Everything just hits right. This is a legit hole-in-the-wall kitchen, and that's exactly what makes it special. No frills, just really good food that keeps you coming back. Every time I'm craving birria (which is often), this is where I go. The quality stays consistent every single visit, which is huge. You know exactly what you're getting and it never disappoints. For the price and taste, the value is excellent. You're getting authentic, flavorful birria without paying sit-down restaurant prices. If you're in the area and craving some birria tacos, do yourself a favor and try this place. It's the kind of spot that turns into a regular rotation real quick. Trust me, I'm proof of that.

Summary: Flavorful, but HEAVY…read more Details: They just opened up a new branch in SF, but we wanted an excuse to hit up San Mateo, and Latin American is always a good enough excuse. While photos of their SF location suggest some seeing, this OG location is pretty much pickup/delivery only: a fairly literal hole in the wall, located along a random quiet street. Most folks would probably opt to take home or eat at one of the "nearby" parks, but we've gotten in the habit of just eating in the car, which... not so great for something as messy as birria lol. I'll say that for most folks, this would probably easily be more a 4 star spot, while for us, it's more a 2 star since we're unlikely to come back. That's not to say the food was bad: on the contrary, the flavors were quite good, and the consomme was less salty than some of the others we've tried. But their food is HEAVY. Not just the birria itself, but also the burrito we got, and heavier than other places we've been for some reason, with the birria sitting in a pool of oil soon after we picked it up. This probably isn't a deterrent for most people though, so take this as you will. Accessibility: Not too relevant since this is really just a pickup spot, with the pickup window being at the usual height you'd find elsewhere.

Hubby said they're known for their seafood, so I figured I'd give it another shot. We went on Sunday night around 6:30 pm. The restaurant was pretty busy, which is always a good sign. We were seated immediately, and all the servers were nice and friendly. Hubby ordered a bunch of dishes, and here are DS's and my ratings versus hubby's: * Molcajete - 3.5/5 (us) and 5/5 (hubby). It looks great, but the meats were a bit subpar. * Mariscada (seafood platter) - 1/5 (us) and 3/5 (hubby). A bunch of fried frozen seafood. Hard pass. * Ceviche de Pulpo - 4/5 (us) and 5/5 (hubby). Pretty good and something I'd order again. * Costillas en Chile (pork ribs) - 1/5 (us) and 2/5 (hubby). Underwhelming all around. Overall, I'd give this meal a 2/5, plus one extra star for the awesome, friendly service. Their chips and salsa are still very good. It's free which is pretty much unheard of in the Bay Area. They're also happy to refill if you ask, and that earns them another bonus star. Hubby really enjoyed this dinner and is already planning to come back with his friends. As for me, this is probably it.

As soon as we walk in the door we were greeted by Daniel himself who welcomed us warmly and offered meal selections and specials that were available which was very helpful. We got the nachos to share , my hubby got the burrito and I got the Rosie's special. Firstly the portions are huge and the food was all absolutely delicious and visually stunning. Everything was made from scratch and cooked fresh to order and seasoned perfectly. My husband and I are very well traveled and trying Mexican food most every where we travel, let me just say, while SFO had lots to offer for vacay, this hidden gem is at the very top of my list as the reason I want to go back to Burlingame SFO. Do not hesitate, if you live around travel to the area make Gabriel and Daniel Mexican grill a weekly staple and support these 2 brothers who have been in business for the past 23 years, you will never regret it. The food is world class cuisine, served in a quaint, relaxed atmosphere where you will be treated like family, I certainly felt like I had dinner at my uncle's home, and the prices are unbeatable for the huge portions you are served. To be honest my husband and I inhaled the nachos, they are easily the best we ever had in all our worldwide travels, but our burrito and Rosie's special were so huge we both had leftovers. These 2 brothers have perfected their family restaurant and cook with heart, passion and skill, which is unmistakable in their cuisine and warmth of their hospitality. Lastly I would like to say, I do not often write reviews unless I'm absolutely blown away, and this restaurant is easily at the top of my list of restaurant recommendations of all our worldwide cuisine adventures. To Gabriel and Daniel, thank you pouring your love and passion into your cuisine and for allowing us to experience authentic delicious food that we will talk about for a lifetime. All our love... Cory and Rae from New York.

They weren't picking up the phone, so we chanced it and luckily the wait times weren't too long and we were in and out in under 20 minutes. I was hella hungry so I opted for the ceviche tostada, carne asada super burrito grilled, and a steak and shrimp quesadilla. The ceviche tostada has to be one of their most underrated menu items. Great portion size, good flavor, and all for $6.95. If you like fish ceviche, definitely recommend trying this. The burrito was amazing as usual, crazy how the flavor and quality has stayed the same over the past 20 years. Kudos to their entire team for keeping the traditions going. My parents ended up snagging my quesadilla and they were pleasantly surprised how much they enjoyed it (I wasn't lol). The quesadilla is HUGE. They pack that thing with so much shrimp and steak, it's well worth the $14.95. It also comes with sour cream and guacamole on the side. If you want something lighter but still want the great flavors, give the quesadilla a try!

The fish and shrimp in the ceviche were super fresh and had a perfect level of tanginess and spiciness. The mango and avocado were great additions. The pulpo salteados was filling and comforting, with the octopus and calamari being tender, and the potatoes being boiled down to be soft. The garlic butter sauce was delicious! The asado mixto, in my opinion, is the best dish to get, since there's a bit of everything on the menu, from beef to pork to chicken to shrimp. Everything was cooked to be tender, and it was a delicious bite to wrap everything in the corn tortillas. The molcajete salsa had a perfect kick of spice. I always enjoy a dish with veggies as well, and the zucchini and peppers were great with the molcajete. While on the pricier end for Mexican food, everything was tasty and service is friendly and fast. I was stuffed this time, but definitely want to come try the churros next time!
