My cat was losing weight with unstoppable sneezing and face swelling. Dr Patterson was very honest and transparent about work up and his clinical impression and was able to diagnose aggressive cancer in her and get me to the right oncología specialists. He was gently with her and compassionate, as were the staff. The techs were upfront about costs so there were no surprises. They always made sure there was something soft and fluffy for her to sit on inside her carrier before she left. Although my sweet cat passed away, I'm grateful for the care she was given at this clinic, so much that I went back to have my other pets checked out by Dr. Patterson. This place is such a waste of time. My first experience the staff was lacking serious knowledge with my animal who had just been diagnosed with feline diabetes. I swore I wouldn't come back here with their lackluster customer service but I ended up back here b/c it's close by and most other places are fully booked weeks out... now we know why their schedule isn't as full. My cat was suffering horrible skin lesions from his diabetes. He had an open cut on his stomach from the skin tearing. I called as soon as I could get through the phone lines to let them know I was coming since everything is on locked automation- meaning you can't speak with anyone until office hours begin. I arrived and the woman "Mimi" at the desk berated me for showing up and not giving her time to "pull my chart" then proceeded to roll her eyes IN FRONT OF ME. I called her out on it and she semi-changed her tune trying to make small talk but in a sarcastic tone. When I reached back out to check in midday, I was placed on hold no less than 6x because every time I asked a question- the other front desk woman would cut me off and put me on hold before I even had a chance to get out all my questions. So rather than taking down my questions and consulting the technician once- she wasted me time and interrupted the technician in surgery multiple times which I'm sure is SUPER safe. When I did have her on the phone talking she was completely clueless as to the operations or the chart and kept cutting me off while I was trying to speak and laughed at me when I asked her if she could please let me get a sentence out. This place is BEYOND unprofessional and had this not been an emergency where I simply needed proper wound care and antibiotics for my cat... I wouldn't have stepped foot back in here. You can't put people like that as the face of your business, insult customers, and expect those interactions to leave a positive first or last impression. Please for the love of Pete hire staff that can actually give a damn about customer service. It's already hard enough as a pet parent knowing your animal is under distress and then having people with 0 bedside manner or customer service skills tasked with having kindness or compassion. Recently, we were surprised/ saddened to be rudely treated by the Office Manager. Our 4 pets have been patients here for over 15 years. Our primary Vet- Dr. Patterson- was very kind and compassionate- but he left the practice As any good consumer should, we inquired in advance about the price of a service. The Office Manager said she did not know. Why not? Once the grooming service was performed the Manager was annoyed when we expressed concern with the excessive charge. The Vet Tech even indicated that she probably did not do a very good job. We were told to feel free to come and pick up our pets' medical records and move on. I've taken my dog to many vets in his lifetime. Mostly because of moves, but also because he's a klutz! Dr Longest is such a wonderful vet. Compassionate, knowledgable and honest. Referring me to another veterinary practice because he recommended a procedure that would be best for my dog instead of simply wanting to operate. I truly appreciate his honesty and forethought. Happy for now to call them our vet. Our visit was pleasant. The Dr ended up checking out both of our cats even though we were only in for one of them. The building was clean and neutral smelling. Dogs that came in weren't immediately terrified like some vets. The cats didn't freak out either. I was disappointed that at least one of the doctors takes cat de-clawing too easily. Didn't even try to talk the lady out of amputating part of the cats paw (look it up). It's a horrible practice and it's the vets job to educate their clients on what it really entails. read more

When I moved to Richmond, I started taking my pets here because it was close to my apartment. A year later, I moved closer to the city, and so I changed vets because driving 20-30 minutes with a sick dog was... not ideal. After the dog passed, I came back to this vet. (It's easier to get sick cats places, and I was not happy with my then current vet). I couldn't be happier with the quality of service, the friendliness of staff, and the overall vibe of Three Chopt Animal Clinic. So, I didn't even get to the appointment part, but I'm so disgusted with how the interaction went with the lady at the front desk that I wanted to leave a review. Her name is Faith. I'm basically looking for a vet to go to for xrays for my cat since the mobile vet that I use doesn't offer that service. So, I first called to get prices, but then also wanted to visit the vet office myself beforehand to see the facility and get a chance to actually talk to some of the staff in person. When I got there, it was this same lady that I talked to on the phone. She answered my questions at first, but wouldn't give me a straight answer about being able to talk to the vet during the appointment. Basically, I am disabled and would be having a friend bring my cat for me, without me being present. (It was clear that she could see that I was disabled because I came with a friend who drove me, and I had a walker). I asked if I could be on the phone on speaker phone during the visit to be able to explain what's going on with my pet and be able to ask questions while he or she is examining my cat, just like you would do if you were actually in the exam room. She kept dodging my question and acted like she didn't understand what I was asking. She then went in the back to ask someone something, but came out without still really answering my question. I rephrased it several times, and she just said she could ask the vet later, if I make the appointment, but kept repeating the fact that the vet could call me afterwards. Which was not what I was asking about. It was the most awkward encounter. I specifically wanted to know if they would accommodate my situation and it was clear that she had no desire to understand where I was coming from or make the effort to actually ask the right person the appropriate questions. I will definitely not be going here if this is how they treat people. I stopped by 2 other vet offices to also visit and speak with staff and none of them treated me this way or had any issues with me being able to converse with the vet this way during the exam visit. I suggest if you're looking for a new vet, you look elsewhere. read more

This vet is really good. I would have rather taken my cat here first instead of where I went. They are very reasonable with their prices. They took their time with discussing everything that I needed to know about my cat's condition. They even followed up later to ask about my cat's condition. Would definitely recommend. read more

Dr. Whitfield is the best! She and her wonderful staff saved our beloved Sophie. Dr. Whitfield goes beyond 100%. She called us three times to check on Sophie after we brought her home. The veterinarians are great in the practice and I have been taking my dogs there for 6 years now. What's a shame and happens with a lot of vets' and physicians' offices is that they hire rude front desk staff. I recently called to have my dogs' updates vaccine records sent to where they are boarded. When I said thank you at the end of the call and by I was simply hung up on. The woman did not say bye back to me and especially not you're welcome. This has happened several times with making appointments as well. I feel uncomfortable calling to make a request or ask a question because they are just so rude at the front desk. I do share this information when someone asks me where I take my dogs to the vet. They often decide not to go here even when I say the vets are excellent. read more

I've been taking my cat here for the last three years and I've been really pleased. I have used both Dr. Whitfield and Dr. Patterson and both are fantastic. They both have a very gentle nature about them that puts my animal at ease and me as the owner at ease knowing my animal is being cared for by caring and trustworthy people. I've never had an issue making an appointment and the times when my scheduled has been tight I have been able to drop my cat off as early as 7:30am and they will see her at their convenience during the day and give me a call to let me know what how the appointment went. There is no extra charge for this so long as you pickup before they close. Highly recommend! read more

Stay away from this business. Absolute horrible boarding experience recently. They returned my dog to me sick and didn't even tell me about her experiencing any symptoms while in their care until after I had to take her to another animal hospital for emergency treatment. Poor customer service as well. Wanted to argue more about their lack of negligence than taking ownership of it and was not concerned about about doing the right thing. Stay away. read more

The DVM's are all seasoned professionals, and newly-school on the latest and greatest in veterinary medicine. There is a reason this company does not allow Google reviews. They would all be terrible. While the doctors are nice and professional the same can not be said for the front desk staff. It is a shame that the uneducated front desk staff can lead to loss of business for the doctors. Dr. Patterson- you have been a great vet for years, but I will never return because of how I was spoken to when I called to make an appointment. I work for a major retail corporation and these employees wouldn't last a month if they were held to the same standards. I'll be taking my two animals elsewhere and not recommending this clinic to anyone. read more

From scheduling the appointment to being seen on time, the Clinic was great for this very involved pet owner. I saw Dr. Paterson and he thoroughly reviewed my dog's history, medications and options. A million thanks to this staff for outstanding, genuine care of my dog. I had a home visit vet for years, but when she retired, I was at a loss. Over the next year I tried a couple of vets in hopes of finding the one whose care I appreciated, and whose fees I could afford...no luck. Then one day when I knew the lump on my dog's leg needed to be checked, I called this clinic. Not only was I seen the same day (and SO relieved to discover compassion here), but when I took the vet's advice and opted for surgical removal of that lump, I was scheduled for the following day! I can't say enough about the comfort I experienced at this clinic: I knew my dog was in skilled hands, and would be well cared for from the attendants to the doctor and his assistant...and what more can a pet lover want? When my fees were totaled, they were within 15.00 of what I'd be told the day prior- no surprises, no hidden charges. Although I enjoy the relaxation of the home visit vet I had, I can honestly say Three Chopt Animal Clinic is right for us- and I am grateful to have found them! read more

I have brought my cats here for the past year. On my most recent visit I brought my long haired cat to the vet for a sanitary shaving. Upon returning home, I realized that he had brought home fleas that infested my apartment and my second cat. When I called the vet to let them know, they basically told me that there was very little chance my cat got the fleas from their clinic. A flea must have gotten on my clothing and got inside. Coincidence? I think not. I have had both cats for over 4 years, and they are not outdoor cats. They have never had fleas. I feel that the vet is trying to deny my claim, and refuses to help me out. They have always been nice to me, and as far as I can tell, they have good service, but there is a chance your pet might get fleas if you take them here. I will not be returning to this clinic ever again. read more

We started taking our senior rescue dog here after we adopted him about 8 months ago, without any sort of recommendation. I was worried we were taking a gamble, since I have heard stories from coworkers about their vet offices nickle and diming them for every little thing. Three Chopt has been amazing. We never have trouble getting an appointment or getting calls back when we have questions, and the prices are very reasonable. We see Dr. Keller. She seems very interested in saving us from unnecessary expenses and has been spot-on with diagnosis and treatment for our boy so far. For some reason she is not listed on the website under "doctors," but she's the most compassionate and knowledgeable vet I have encountered, having tried a handful of vets in the Richmond area. While our dog was very scared of the vet at first, he seems to be coming around and the staff is so nice. I couldn't ask for better treatment for my furrbaby. read more
