This visit we did the Firefly's Choice flight and it did not disappoint. Every wine was well-crafted and the staff made the whole experience feel personal and welcoming. The cottage itself is private, charming, and exactly what you want for a romantic weekend away. Firefly Cellars punches well above its weight as a boutique winery. Highly recommend the cottage if you want to do wine country the right way.

I opted to sit at the bar and was given the flight options. I ordered a flight and a charcuterie board. The board was listed for 3-4 people but I would suggest 1-2 especially if your hungry. The indoor seating is quaint and in a small building. They also have a huge outdoor space and patio both with seating. We were joined about another guest and had great conversation. We went for a self guided flight of the reds- the Bordeaux blend, Carmenere, Cab Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Norton. The Bordeaux, Cab Sauv were very good, and the Norton was almost like a port, which I really enjoy. The Petit Verdot was the weakest of the batch by far and one I would never touch again. On the other end was the Carmenere which was an excellent wine I would absolutely come back for. Its quite a pleasant winery with some very good wines to try.

I saw that they used Real Solo stoves burning actual wood. Not some sad propane fire pit -- actual crackling fires. That kind of detail tells you everything about how this place operates. I love a good camp fire! The wines were genuinely good, and the staff made the experience even better. Super helpful with recommendations and clearly know their stuff when it comes to guiding you through the selections. There is pizza. It's available, but it didn't really deliver on quality -- stick to what they do best, which is the wine. If you are not in the tasting room, you can bring your own food. We LOVED the cats that casually wandered (snuck) into the tasting room like they lived in the place. They were super friendly and would walk past. On a clear day I imagine the outdoor space with those views and a real wood fire is pretty unbeatable. We'll definitely be back when the weather cooperates.

Even though I no longer live in the area, Sunset Hills Vinyard is the one winery in the area that I…read moremaintain my membership to. I love being able to experience Virginia wines while living in a different state and I love having my membership benefits when I do visit the area. The staff at Sunset Hills vineyard has always been welcoming, knowledgeable and hospitable. In addition, they are great with managing my shipments and account from afar and they make it easy to customize a shipment if you prefer different wines than they are offering. Their food service is great for pairing, I absolutely love their ciabatta bread and warm cheese spread with honey. My favorite thing to do is stop in, taste what is new and share a bottle and some snacks with friends while enjoying the views. Whether I am enjoying live music inside in the winter months or sitting on the deck or outdoor covered area in the summer months, Sunstet Hills Vinyard is my happy place to unwind.

All very knowledgeable about the wine and even let me sample some of the wine (Petit Manseng and Port) that wasn't on their menu and that I could only buy a bottle of. They had my favorite wine (Petit Manseng) but somehow I ended up loving the 2024 Sauvignon Blanc Reserve. I even ordered a glass of it after my tasting. It was light, smooth, and had a hit of guava taste to it. Very refreshing. Loved my pizza too! I was stuck between getting a pizza or their smash burger, but happy I chose the pizza. The brownie I got was pretty good too and apparently it was gluten free. The property is pet family friendly. I think the 21+ side looks the best and has better views as well.
