The flagship read at the end of the tasting was nice, but not quite nice enough to buy a bottle or have a glass of because I think it too was overpriced. This is one of those hidden gems, it would be nice if Loudoun County Wine Association would publish a list (or tour) of these smaller and more personal operations. Zephaniah is one of the local places that when my group told the other wineries we visited we were going/had gone, they were impressed we knew what it was. It must be some kind of local secret. Well more people should check out this local secret because the combination of the historic and well kept family land and the colorful characters make this a must visit. We were greeted immediately upon entering by the owners, who kindly set us up in rocking chairs on the beautiful porch overlooking the farm (with a view of their impressive circa 1840s brick farmhouse). The wine itself is nothing crazy notable (with the exception of the Adeline, which smacks you with delicious stone fruit notes I did not find anywhere else in VA), and it's a 4 wine tasting versus the typical 6 in the region, but it's definitely worth the experience. Just one more thing, don't let the old southern family and pre-boomer owners make you think this place is exclusionary. There's a pretty unsubtle way they make sure when you walk up you know everyone will receive the same warm welcome, which made me love them more. read more

We had a very memorable experience here. We originally tried to book a lunch reservation here but were told we could not due to having an infant in tow. We decided instead to do a picnic lunch outside. Upon arriving, my husband spontaneously decided to ask if they provide tours. I was sure we'd get denied but to my absolute surprise, one of the staff readily agreed. Upon introducing himself, we learned that he was the original vineyard owner's grandson named Tremaine. He explained to us that the operation (which also includes a beef farm) was still family run. He took us out to the grape field and gave us an overview of how grapes are grown. On the way back, he showed us where they grow "table grapes" meant for eating and even gave us some to sample. These aren't even for sale and it seems are for the family to enjoy so I was taken aback that he gave them to us so readily. The grapes had seeds, which he had told us, and a very sweet gelatinous consistency and tasted amazing. He also didn't charge anything for this spontaneous tour. We were very touched by the whole experience. At the conclusion, Tremaine took us to the tasting room. We sat on the patio area and did a wine tasting. The young female employee that helped us was also similarly helpful and attentive. Overall, our experience here was fantastic and hard to top. This was our favorite vineyard thus far in Loudoun County. It may not be the biggest nor have the grandest views per se but the people working there seem to genuinely enjoy interacting with you. read more

It started raining on the day we came, so the balcony was the only option. Because it is small, I could hear everyone's conversation and I don't really like that. Wine is okay. I was not particularly drawn to any of the ones we tasted, so it was a bit disappointing. Updating my old review since they have a lot more outside seating space and the new(ish) tasting room with an outside deck space in the back. Still a more mellow outdoorsy experience than many of the other wineries in the area. The property is beautiful with lots of trees and flowers. It is an active farm, so you may also see sheep and cattle. Service has always been excellent. Recommend the 2018 Rosé, 2017 Three Captains Red and the 2017 Cabernet Franc. It's two days in a row that Pride in the Vines has brought Jo and I to a special winery experience. In this case it wasn't our first visit but things were much different this time. The first time we visited Zephaniah Farm Winery was probably a decade ago and they had no tasting room. We had our tasting in the basement of their home, a very personal approach. Although they now have a beautiful Amish tasting room, we were still greeted by Bonnie at the door and throughout our seated tasting we had the pleasure of being entertained in conversation with Bill who explained both the history of the farm and the metamorphosis of his vineyard. It was every bit as personal as our first visit. The wines are top notch, the 3 whites and the 4 reds we tried were all excellent. Jo, the white wine drinker even enjoyed the Chambourcin. We will be drinking that bottle this evening! Thanks once again to Visit Loudoun and their Pride in the Vines program for reminding us of this gem of a winery. We will be back soon. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed visiting this winery. Such friendly staff. You can tell that the family takes pride in their land and the vineyard is beautiful. The tasting room was spacious enough for our party and other parties to enjoy their tastings. The tasting presentation was nice. Popped into this winery for a tasting while in the area for strawberry picking. We had found Zephaniah on a Yelp search for highly rated wineries in the area and we were not disappointed! My companion and I did a tasting flight - $20 for four pours, plus a bonus pour for each of us. The wine was delicious and the staff were very friendly - we learned about the winery's history and were so pleased with this last minute find. Absolutely loved this experience! They do a wonderful job of keeping folks distanced and safe and making it fun despite the circumstances. I enjoyed learning about their philosophy to not explain or teach about their wines because it takes away from your personal experience and makes people feel inferior. They also shared about how they have to set controlled fires to keep the grapes from freezing which can destroy their crop for the season. This is a labor of love! I loved it here! My husband and I did a little afternoon getaway wine tour and this was our first stop. There are fire pits outside to keep you want-make a reservation for them though. We came on a Saturday afternoon and it was a little busy. There is sanitizer available and the wine tastings are given in little cups on a plate-I really enjoyed this!!! We brought some outside food and had a picnic. The owners are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, we spent some time talking and had a great conversation with Bill. Getting here you have to take a little gravel road and you might think you're not in the right place but trust the GPS- you will get there and love it! They are an active dairy farm so you can see cows in the distance too. The location is great so that you can do a few winery stops in one day. I visited Zephaniah Farm Vineyard one Sunday afternoon. I arrived about 15 minutes before the advertised closing time - so I was prepared for them to tell me it was too close to closing time. I was pleasantly surprised - they did not! The tasting room is different than most other Virginia wineries I have visited. It's like sitting at your Grandma's dining room table - instead of a tasting bar. The lady who poured my wines - I believe was one of the owners. An escape back in time right in Loudon County! My husband and I ventured to Zephaniah over the summer after making a morning phone call to the reservations number. William picked up - one of the owners - and helped us with reservations and recommendations to make our trip we best we could be! When we arrived he was there at check in and gave us a brief tour of the grounds which are so picturesque. This winery is down to earth while feeling other-worldly. We picked up two bottles to take back with us to Arlington and had a bottle of their most recommended white to share on property. There are multiple areas across the property to sit which makes it very possible to be FAR away from others and also to roam to a new area for each glass. We will absolutely be returning! read more

Zephaniah Farm Vineyard is quite the experience! It's a truly intimate setting to sip local wine and learn the history of their family farm. The service is exceptional and the wine is too. It's unlike any vineyard or wine tasting I've had in the area (read: there are over 280 wineries in Virginia and Zephaniah holds its own). The grounds are quaint. The path from the parking lot is beautifully overgrown making it almost like an adventure to find the tasting room entrance. We were greeted by a charming brick house, which is the former home of the family. Inside the the tasting room, we were given a choice of three rooms to sit and taste wine--we chose the library, a room tucked away in the back of the house. It was elaborately decorated providing lots of visual stimuli and conversation starters. We had a friendly and knowledgeable host pour our wine and talk about the vineyard's history. We were able to peek into the cellar with one of the winemakers and meander around the grounds since it was my parents first wine tasting. The wines are delicious. I'm no sommelier, so I won't spoil the wine with bad descriptors, but, simply put, the whites are refreshing and the reds are flavorful. And, the wine is only sold on the property so that's one more reason to visit. When you leave you feel like family. I will measure all other experiences against my visit to Zephaniah. read more

I really want to give Zephaniah 5 stars but every time we come there seems to be discrepancies with their dog policy. I saw on some Yelp reviews that they're dog friendly. The first time I brought my pup they were welcoming but the second time there was some disagreement between the owners/workers of dogs were allowed. Apparently they made an "exception" to allow my pup - there were other dogs on site too. They advised us to pick a table away from other visitors. If you're planning on bringing your pup I would call ahead just to confirm. Other than that this winery is very peaceful and beautiful. read more

Now this is what I call a fine vineyard! Recently I did a search for good wines in the DC area and I was directed to a huge list of small wineries in the Loudoun area in NOVA. After doing some more research, this place turned up. People raved about the intimate setting and high-caliber wine so I made a point of stopping by. It was a wise decision. First off this place feels less like a winery and more like a farm. That's because prior to growing grapes this was once a family dairy farm. The tasting room is actually in a 200+ year old house and it literally feels like you're just having wine in someone's house. That's actually a good thing as the ambiance feels very relaxed and the owners are all extremely friendly. They are definitely passionate about their wine and it shows. I tried several varieties and they were all excellent. I was really pleasantly impressed with their Adeline wine and really recommend it to anyone who's a fan of fruity wine that doesn't feel overwhelming or overly sweet. Generally all of their wines had a light yet refined feel. I walked out with 6 bottles in my trunk, so you can get a sense that I was very happy with the outcome of our brief but memorable wine tasting. There are two places you can do the tastings at. There is the old house and there is an expanded barn that has a wonderfully cozy feel to it as well. Sitting on the rocking chairs and sipping wine at the barn is a generally nice feeling. They also sell candles here that smell wonderful. All in all I can see why a lot of folks raved about this place. I made a revisit on a Sunday and was very pleased with several of their newer additions. While last time I rated their wines at 3.5 stars, this time it was easily 4 stars or better. Their outstanding service continued; in fact I don't think I've ever had less than great service. The wine maker/co-owner was in the tasting room and was happy to answer questions. We chatted a lot about the history of the property, and especially his "Three Captains" namesakes. I continue to appreciate how the staff does a seated tasting in the dinning room of their old manor house / tasting building (which is also their home!). This time around, the Chambourcin was jammier than I remember, but not in a bad way. They also let me try their new Cab Sav, which I liked a lot. But the best was the Cab Franc, which I bought. I was really impressed with the Franc; I think it was mid-$20s. I also had a glass of a wonderfully spicy mulled wine. While they have a new tasting room, skip it and hang out in the manor house. The experience is almost as good as the (already excellent) wine. read more
