Saw that Three Fold had several strong reviews and decided to place a to go order on our way through Little Rock. I appreciated that the website had an easy to navigate menu with photos and loved that they had a pick two to more easily try multiple items. We purchased the pick two of pork dumplings (5 in an order) and the scallion noodles (a sizeable portion!). The pork dumplings were tender and delicious - the handmade preparation makes a difference. I recommend going with a spicier dipping sauce - we regretted our mild choice. The scallion noodles were perfect - tender and flavorful. The chicken was roasted in big chunks that easily pulled apart and there is the best caramelized onion flavor throughout the dish with the scallions. My husband and I shared our choose two for a light lunch (about $20) and it was great. read more

I visited Three Fold in Little Rock for a Friday lunch meeting after it came highly recommended by my partner's family. The restaurant immediately gave a great first impression--clean, well-organized, and welcoming. I appreciated the open kitchen concept where you can see the team working and the chef managing orders with care and attention. This is a walk-up counter-service restaurant, and once you place your order, the food is brought to your table. Seating is open and plentiful--even during lunch hour, we had no trouble finding a comfortable spot. I ordered the Half & Half Bowl (half dumplings, half noodle soup) with pork as my protein, medium spice level, and all the available toppings. When the dish arrived, I noticed there was very little broth--barely a quarter inch at the bottom of the bowl. That was a bit disappointing for a noodle soup. The dumplings were well-steamed with good texture and temperature, though I found them lacking in internal flavor. The noodles, unfortunately, were overcooked and mushy, which made the soup less enjoyable overall. On the positive side, the pork was delicious--tender, flavorful, and clearly the highlight of the dish. As someone who loves a good noodle and dumpling combo, I was hoping for a bit more balance and depth in flavor. That said, my partner absolutely loved her meal, and it's clear this place has a strong following. One of my favorite restaurants in Little Rock. I usually get the dumpling plate with chicken but occasionally get the half and half which is half order of noodles and half order of dumplings with your choice of protein. Their veggie dumplings are also really good. The service is quick as you order at the counter. Both locations are nice and have a modern, clean look. The base is off on the noodles, number one. The noodles are now I'm convinced grocery store bought dried spaghetti, number two. There are now three distinct flavors and you cannot adjust the heat, three. No more side of carrots slaw. They don't serve it. Five. If you order the pork bowl, it is no longer tender, shredded pork. It is cubed pork belly. That floats around your bowl like a sad game of hide and seek. Six.... I sadly could go on. Somebody had a bright idea to change this once really excellent restaurant. The only thing wrong with my visit today is that I didn't have a friend to share with so I could have tried more stuff. I got the dumplings and they were fabulous. Light, airy, fresh and full of yummy flavor. Arriving just before the dinner hour started, the dining area was quiet. It was also clean, including the soda fountain area. Exceptional in its simplicity. No frills, no clutter; a paired down menu that focuses on what is done well and nothing else. The complex textures are what food from here offers that don't show up other places. Tastes good, too. The inside is nearly stark. It's white, it's open, it's slightly barren. For what you're going for it's fitting. This isn't about an experience (sights, sounds, smells, and flavor), it's simply about flavor here. Not to say the staff isn't hospitable or the setting isn't enjoyable (the woman who rang up our order was helpful when given my patented 'narrow it down to two/three and which ever the staff says first is selected by me' approach) or that the seating is torture (it's ok)- the focus is on the ingredients and the product. Had a late lunch on an early April afternoon on the patio. It was relatively quiet: a pleasant disconnect while out of town if only for an hour on the way to Hot Springs. I had the potstickers (pork, obviously) and the sesame balls (hint, this was the star of the show), the Scientist had the half and half (dumplings- chicken, noodles with lightly pulled chicken) and carrot slaw. The sesame balls- light, doughy, delightful; but the magic is in the transient nature of the texture through the bite and chew. There's some pull, then a feel of slight crunch from the seeds, it turns ever so (a good thing) gritty towards the end. These are just fun to eat mindfully, thinking about what it is you're doing, and how the eventual sesame paste (maybe some mung bean with tamarind amalgam) shows up like like a sophomore for a post-survey level humanities class. The potstickers: wrapper is thin, well-fried, crispy and chewy at the same time. Again, texture. Nothing earth-shattering from the taste perspective with regard to the filling. Good, loose pork mixture. Topped with scallions and a fun crunchy lattice likely leftover from the batter while frying. The dumplings were full and doughy. The mixture inside was covered up by the noodle of the dumpling. The noodles were thin, light, fun to grab at with chopsticks. The chicken was perfectly cooked, though not much more than chicken in the taste arena. The sauces offered were depthy, though not especially deep with various levels of heat. I got the hot- it was a step under what I was looking for (though a poison level was offered, and this was probably more my speed), but the soy with the chili did have me tipping up the dipping sauce cup at the end of the meal. Recommended. More of a 3.5 star rating, but I was out of town and anything that's novel (somehow I get more generous on out of town food than that close to home) gets the bump up rather than the rounding off. You order first, pay, and then sit patiently with your table number. The food comes to you. While waiting, grab your utensils, water, and napkins around the other side of the wall. It's tucked away. I tried the dumplings and a bun. Dumplings have a nice texture and the dough was a good level of thickness. Thick enough to go keep the filling in but thin enough so it's not taking over. The filling generous too. The bun was butter toasted and thick! I'm use to the small and soft buns. Three folds buns are thick, crispy on the outside, and pillowy on the inside. It's big and makes a great sandwich. I loved the toppings and the flavorful pieces of tofu. It was a knock out order for me. Next time, I'll top of off with some pickled carrots for brightness. Tried this place for the first time and it was ok. The noodles were very good, but no options for fried dumplings on their "$20 Set". Ordered the pot stickers to circumvent this and they were just ok. Filling the was missing something. When the noodles came, I asked for some extra soy sauce or maybe some hot sauce and was told the soy was already in the noodles. Was offered some chili oil. It added some heat, but flavor was missing. Same with the sauce for the pot stickers. Nothing on the table to adjust/enhance the dish to my taste. The noodles were house made and had great texture. Pork belly was bland and missing a pop that you normally can find in a noodle place. Like I said, just ok. Might try it again and bring my own sauce. lol read more

The food was good, but the service was not. Whenever I'm someplace new I turn to yelp to see the hidden gems or the places I'd otherwise miss. I read the experiences of others and look at the pictures to decide will this be a new and enjoyable culinary experience. The food was delicious. It's exactly what you would expect, a new take on old classics, and it didn't disappoint. The "bun sandwich" was the real MVP while the half and half bowl was good. The space is a gentrified, wide open space with everything painted white and utilitarian. Looks and not comfort are what they're going for. I guess it keeps you from loitering after your meal, because the seats are none too comfortable. Let's talk service. The woman at the counter acted bothered that we were there. She seemed disinterested as we ordered. My wife had to ask her about our choices and if she had and suggestions. Her response of our choice of spice level was as if we were. Simply put, this restaurant has been a local favorite for myself and many others in the community. It's one of those unique places that I've always recommended to friends, family, and colleagues visiting the area. Unfortunately the new menu has not translated well. Although making changes and adaptations to stay innovative and relevant is never a bad thing for a business, perhaps the owners/chef, should take some cues from some of the more recent reviews and consider bringing back a few of their original/staple menu items that made them so popular and successful in the first place. read more

I landed at LIT around 1130A and had a 2hr drive ahead of me. I swung by Three Fold on my way out of town to get lunch to go. I asked the guy at the register what I should get. He suggested a Half + half bowl. It's half noodles and half dumplings. I chose pork as my protein and I went with the second most spicy option. It only took 5-10 minutes to make. I thought that was pretty quick. The dumplings were excellent. I prefer the noodle to be a little thinner but they were still very good. The came with some kind of chili soy sauce. It had a little kick but nothing too bad. The half with the noodles were topped with pickled veggies with the shredded pork on the side. I'm pretty sure the spicy level I chose related to the sauce on the noodles. I'll probably try the most spicy next time. Again, really good flavor. I'll be back in Little Rock in the near future so I'm going to have to add Three Fold into the rotation. read more

We have been very excited to try the new menu at Three Fold and went there for a lunch date. We had been under the impression that they were keeping the old menu items and were just adding a few new things. Sadly, we were wrong, and the new menu is way overpriced and a sad remnant of the original food. I got the Mala noodles,and the broth/sauce that they used to have is no more, and the noodles were sitting in a spicy oil that was lacking a lot of flavor. My boyfriend got the scallion noodles and they were slightly better in flavor, but we were both very off-put by the cold chicken served on the side. It was quite reminiscent of sliced chicken you might get in a deli? We also missed the pickled vegetables and noticed that the portion sizes were MUCH smaller. Overall, we were very disappointed with our meal and sadly, we won't be returning unless they switch back to the original dishes. I found this place on Yelp and figured I would order noodles and dumpling for a late lunch for my birthday since I like to carry on the tradition of eating noodles, as it is a sign of longevity. After looking over the menu board, I ended up purchasing: Chicken Salad, $12.49 prior to tax- For any of the dishes, you are able to choose your protein of chicken (which is what I picked), tofu and pork. I had requested for the dressing on the side, which was a scallion oil based dressing that was really good. This salad comes with picked vegetables, picked cabbage, a brown tea egg and large lettuce leaves. I thought this salad was very good and loved the flavor of the vegetable slaw and picked vegetables. But I would have preferred for the lettuce used to be chopped into bit size pieces. Instead they were very large leaves (makes me think that either the employee was too lazy to chop the pieces themselves or they were short staffed a failed to have time to do so). Half & Half, $13.89 prior to tax- This entree comes with two half size portions of signature noodles & dumpling bowl. For the protein, I picked pork for both. I thought this would be a good dish to pick since you get to have 2 different choices. But the portion size of this entree is on the small side. This came in a count of 6 pork dumpling and a very small portion of noodles. I didn't think the noodles were that good and felt they were rather average. The noodles itself had an off taste. The pork dumpling were standard. Wouldn't recommend ordering this dish again and felt this was sub par. Taro Chips, $3.49 prior to tax- Something I don't see on a menu every day, decided to order this side dish. The taro chips were great however, they were not salted evenly. Some of the chips had way too much salt and some didn't have any. There was a lot of salt leftover at the bottom of the bag. ------------------------------- (Total= $34.06, after tax) Service was friendly. I appreciated that I was offered a cup to get water while I waited for my to go order. Wait time was actually very quick, maybe less than 10 minutes? I guess I hadn't figured out in advance that this was a fast casual kind of place, so I had to reset my expectations. This one is quite cavernous inside, so there's not a huge danger of being stuck without food. The options are various iterations of noodles and dumplings, and most of them offer a choice of tofu as a protein. I was quite pleased for the option to get a bowl of half noodles and half dumplings. I was also frankly kind of surprised at how good of a portion it was. That was a solid half-dozen dumplings plus noodles and several fried tofu pieces. A bit of pickled cabbage rounded out the flavor quite nicely. Their spice levels are apparently decided by what hot sauce you get on the side. I have to say, the top level, "poison" did not really impress me. I could easily eat that stuff straight up. Their hot tea looked like a legit Chinese brand. We've been fans since the beginning and excited to try the updated menu and now am grieving. The pan fried dumplings are always delicious, but expensive. The new angel hair like noodles remind me of a cheap fast food Italian place and does not hold the flavor of the broth as well as the previous noodles. The mala noodles just taste like spice and pepper, with the peanut noodle just tasting of watery peanut. The to-go packing has changed and does not appear to be recyclable or reusable. This is a really nice concept restaurant with a limited but tasty menu which is served at four levels of spice, mild, medium, spicy and "poison". We dropped in right after they opened, which turned out to be a good choice as it filled quickly with a lunch crowd with accompanying longer lines. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The condiment and utensil counter is somewhat inconveniently located around the corner from the ordering area. For menu choices, I had their dumpling soup which I ordered at a spicy level. I opted for the pork dumplings which I thought were really tasty. It had plenty of flavorful broth which contained shredded pickled carrots and what I believe was turnip. Maybe the shredded size of the veggies was too fine as they seemed to get tangled together in a clump at the bottom of the bowl. We ordered a tasty Three Fold salad which shared the same shredded pickled veggies as well as some cabbage and a hard boiled egg plus cilantro and romaine lettuce. The green sauce which came as a side, I assume was supposed to be a spicy addition as I had ordered it medium. But it had little zing at all. But we both liked the salad quite a bit. My wife had the noodle bowl with tofu which I tried, and it seemed like a light satay sauce was at the base of its flavor. As for beverages my wife had a soda drink while I had a can of Pinot Grigio wine, which was a fun treat for lunch. 12 oz of wine is plenty and a great value for $5. Overall we both thought this was a great little restaurant and hope they franchise soon so we can see them out west where we live. Unfortunately the wine option won't be available in our community due to nutty liquor laws. But if I'm in Little Rock. This place is no frills, simple menu. So if you like dumplings & noodles, come on! The dumplings are not like gyoza or potstickers.. they have a pork filling and thick wrapper but filling & tasty! We tried one dumpling soup & one half & half combo in poison heat level Not hot... Just the flavor of chili oil so don't be afraid! The soup was so delicious & prefer that one over the 2 because it let you have all the flavor at once. Parking is street parking & you order at the counter and they'll bring it to you. Threefold Noodles used to be one of my favorites, but it's really gone downhill. The portions have gotten smaller while prices have gone up, which makes it even more disappointing. They've switched to thin spaghetti instead of real noodles, and the tofu is now thick, unseasoned chunks with no flavor. The broth was bland with an overpowering peanut taste. This noodle place in the SOMA neighborhood is fire! There is a variety of ramen and noodle dishes plus dumplings and steam buns. Was having a hard time deciding, but did the half & half and opted for hot. It wasn't that spicy and they gave me some extra hot oil, so I put that in my noodle dish - soooo good. The dumplings were perfectly seasoned, a little salty and had a wonderful taste, especially with the sauce that came over the noodles. We also tried the Sesame Balls and they were sweet and interesting- very warm and more of a dessert menu item.
