You don't hear many, if any, businesses say something like that anymore, much less mean it. When we hit speed bumps, as all remodel projects do, the team was great at adjusting and finding solutions. They…read moreimpressed, whether it was with the handling of inspections and inspectors, the transparency with financials, or the simply trade itself, John Shaw and his team were always on top of our renovation. Professional, respectful, and highly communicative, he was always there whenever we needed him, by text, phone, or in person, if we needed reassurance, advice or progress reports he always seemed to be right on the ball. It's hard to communicate just how important this is to keep the blood pressure down while undertaking something as life altering as a major home renovation, but we always felt Fahan had it under control. Our project was completed on schedule, 7 months to do a new kitchen, master bath, staircase installation, family room and deck, plus electrical and lots of small detail work around the house. Seven months is really something considering how easily big renovations like ours can go off the rails. Horror stories abound, and we, quite literally, had none. What a huge relief. In terms of costs, Fahan was transparent and upfront with us. They estimated and invoiced all expected and unexpected costs up front, and clearly stated any potential overruns. There were some, but none that we felt were from left field, and for each one we were given options to keep in line with what we were comfortable with. We understood and signed off on everything before anything moved forward, with a comforting degree of transparency. The only downside we could see was that the pricing tended to be high. It's not entirely clear however if this was due to the current economic conditions of '22-'23 or if it's just what quality work and workmanship costs. But as they say, you get what you pay for. Overall, we felt well-taken care of throughout the process, like there was an insider who knew the business, the pitfalls and the tricks. "I trust them", were words we uttered more than once. Most of the time we weren't even at the house, only catching up on the progress on weekends, but we always knew that the work would get done and with little to no issues along the way. THe house turned out amazing. We really couldn't be happier with the work they did. Fahan's just a quality outfit, contractors and subs, that you should trust with your house too. He was extremely thorough: from working with the architect to co-ordinating with all the inspectors, to introducing us to all the members on his team and what we could expect from them on a regular basis. He managed the whole project effectively by providing us with timely quotes, invoices and being diligent about addressing any follow up questions we had. If there were any unforeseen issues with the weather or supply chain issues, John kept us informed and worked around each of these issues while keeping the project on time. We hired Alan to replace our leaking windows and siding on the front and roof of a multi-story…read morecondo building. He is one of the most honest and quality-focused contractors I have ever worked with. During planning, I spoke to a number of other contractors who wanted to use retrofit windows and just leave the siding in place. Alan took the time to explain the proper way that the building wrap, siding and windows had to interface to get waterproofing, and how we were better off replacing all three if we wanted to be sure we'd fix our problem. Even with this extra scope, Alan's pricing was very fair. Thank god we went with Alan. When they removed the existing siding, they found severe water damage underneath the siding and a subpar earlier repair job. When this surprise came up, Alan talked us through the damage and gave us our options. They ended up ripping up two layers of existing siding, cutting out damaged building sheathing and replacing it with new plywood, before proceeding with the job. The overrun costs were very reasonable and we never felt like Alan was taking advantage of us. The end result was great quality at a fair price, and peace of mind that our issues have been resolved and we won't have to worry about the front / roof for a long time now. I would definitely hire Alan again and would recommend him to anyone looking for this kind of work.

I needed an emergency repair on my brother's front foot of his condo. The front door was locked in…read moreresulting in the frame around the door jam being shattered. I used Yelp to send a project to five companies that stated the nature of the problem and photos of the damage, and for those that responded within 24-hours, I asked specifically how they were going to repair the door frame. The cheapest quote stated that he would push in the damaged frame and glue it in place. Next . . . The most expensive quoted $150 an hour, plus materials. They stated that the entire door frame needed to be changed. Hmm. Maybe . . . The second lowest quote was by the Be James Team. They stated that their rate was $99 an hour (minimum two hours, but this project took longer), plus materials. Based on the photos they recommend a partial replacement of the door frame. They had a next-day opening in their schedule, and sent two technicians to the condo. The inspection revealed that this particular frame was problematic due to the construction and materials used, and replacement would be a two-day job. After a discussion with me stating that the time and cost of replacing the entire frame or even one side would be astronomical, they decided to replace a portion of the frame around the shattered door jam area, and then reinforce the side - a cheaper, but still a strong option. Six hours later, a single technician completed the job. The frame looks like new, complete with matching paint. The technician also cleaned the area of dust and debris. I am happy with the results. The work was done quickly, and we thought to our satisfaction. Communication between myself and the team doing the work (via the project manager) wasn't seamless, so there were a few issues there. Some of that was on me, though - I requested a couple of changes that weren't on the original scope of work and Joseph agreed to them, which was lovely, and that information was a bit unclear due to the last-minute changes. That said, while I was initially understanding of the errors they made (there were several) because the company was responsive and made corrections, this past week I discovered an error that was significant (and it's far too late to really be willing to accept a correction - I don't want my yard torn up again at this point). Part of my yard design was "planting areas" where I would install my own plants, as this company does not do that. They were laid out using bender board, and were supposed to contain soil (so that plants could be installed). These were covered with bark, like the rest of the yard, but with drip irrigation for the eventual plants. When I saw the bark going in, I asked the crew about the soil/planting area, and was told, "Yeah, it's okay, we're doing it." (There was a language barrier between myself and the crew doing the work.) This past weekend, I went to install plants I had purchased (as the weather has finally cooled), and discovered that the "planting areas" were no different under the bark than the rest of the yard - there was no soil, just the bark and the weed barrier. To be able to plant anything, I needed to cut through and remove some of the weed barrier, then install soil myself. This error is not small - it's completely different from what was contracted and agreed upon. The project manager should have checked that things were done as specified, and he did not. It should not be expected that a homeowner will dig under mulch to ensure that the expected soil is present, any more than a homeowner should watch to make sure drywall is correctly installed. As a result, I cannot recommend this company.

Eugene responded quickly and is easy to communicate with and eager to help. We ended up making a lot of changes as the we worked through each step. We will be using Rebase Building again for our upstairs bathroom and master suite. For now we are enjoying our new kitchen and bathroom!
