I'll give it a 3. The restaurant itself was nice and I liked they had a screened in patio to eat outside. The bbq was good but you definitely have to have bbq sauce on the meat, otherwise the flavor isn't really there. There wasn't hardly any fat though which is good. It was all good meat. It's the only bbq place in my life I've went to where pickles were considered a side item... like you'd actually have to use one of your two sides if you wanted pickles on your sandwich. I could have swore the menu said they come with the sandwich but both the combos I ordered didn't have any on them, so it's not your typical southern bbq joint in that matter. The coleslaw that normally comes with bbq sandwiches was considered an extra side too. I will say the homemade chips they had were delicious. Much better than fries. The pasta salad was a little dry, it really just tasted like plane noodles with peas and peppers. Overall it wasn't bad, it just wasn't great and didn't really tickle my fancy. If someone else wants to go I'll go back but probably not on my own. A lot of people seem to like it so maybe I just have different taste when it comes to bbq. read more

Wow! We drove by Three Lil Pigs BBQ while exploring the Pine Mountain, Ga. area while we camp at FD Roosevelt State Park. The smell of the wood smoking made us sure that we wanted to stop for supper. Other reviewers mentioned the fall-off-the-bone Baby Back Ribs, so I really didn't pay much attention to the other offerings. The plate came with three 4 oz. sides, and as recommended, I made sure to include the green beans. My other sides were the Brunswick Stew and Cole slaw. Our meals arrived quickly and did not disappoint. One plate contained my 3 sides and 2 slices of bbq bread that was toasted with butter and minced garlic, and a basket was served with a foil-wrapped rack of baby backs. I said it looked like I would need a to-go box based on the amount of food presented. The bones easily pulled away from the meat and was tender and delicious with beautiful smoke marks. The cole slaw was very tasty. The green beans appeared to be canned, but were wonderfully seasoned with meat. The Brunswick stew contained tomatoes, corn, okra, and pork, and had a delightful sweet taste. The garlic buttered bread was fantastic. To-go box? No, that didn't happen; I left nothing after giving the last run to my husband. (He told me it made up for the one Adam gave Eve!) The building appears to be relatively new; nicely painted, with comfy booths and several screened areas to eat if air conditioning or television isn't a necessity. Not bad bar-b-que, but not something to write home about either. The meat itself is bland, with very little (if any) smoked flavor. All the flavor comes from the two sauces you can choose - mild and hot (the only two choices). I chose the mild, and it had some moderate heat to it - can't imagine what the "hot" sauce is like! Too many peppers used in the sides I chose....the beans had peppers, the pasta salad had peppers, the Brunswick stew had peppers. Lotsa peppa! On the plus side, their new building is clean and has lots of room and 6 large TVs to watch. In a pinch, it'll do - but if you are looking for a place that you would be willing to drive a long distance to satisfy your bar-b-que craving - this is not the place. read more

Hiking the Pine Mountain Trail? Expecting to be hungry afterwards? Like BBQ? Good news! Three Lil Pigs is on the way from the trails to the highway and is well worth stopping at. As a plus - if you smell like a couple days of hiking they have a drive through AND outdoor seating. Things to know: The BBQ is pig. As another reviewer mentioned this is par for the course in Georgia. If you see cow on the menu in a BBQ joint you can usually assume it is only going to be mediocre - so pig is a good thing. BBQ in Georgia is meant to be sauced. They were a tad stingy with the sauce on the chipped pork sandwiches, only providing one small cup of it per sandwich - but they were happy to give me a couple extra so I could properly sauce my 'wich. The BBQ sauce is a spicy-mustardy sauce...but not full on mustard BBQ sauce. The beans are quite spicy. If you like spicy food give these a try. The coleslaw is good! I typically don't care for slaw, but it was lightly sauced and very fresh tasting. The sandwiches come with a LOT of chips and a small side of coleslaw. Even coming at this sandwich ravenous I only barely finished my own, all of the chips, the coleslaw and half of a side of beans. The portions are serious. -- TL;DR? purchased the chipped pork plate: pork: excellent. cleaned of excess fat, so it was a huge pile of just tender pork. beans: best baked beans I've ever eaten. They are spicy, but it's more of a warmed mouth spice, not an intense focused heat. Great depth of flavor with the combo of spicy, savory, and a light sweetness. Super amazing. coleslaw: perfectly adequate. Nothing to write home about. bbq sauce: a mustard vinegar sauce that wasn't too heavy in either direction. Very balanced with a nice spicy kick. I went with mild, so the heat wasn't overwhelming, but still present. If you don't like any heat, this sauce may not be for you. garlic toast: good, but not ground breaking. Not the best barbecue in the world, but it was decent. Massive portions for very fair prices. Most barbecue is very overpriced. We got a lot of food for what we paid. But the barbecue pork didn't have much flavor until you drown it in sauce. Which was pretty good. If you are in the mood for barbecue and you are in the area, then it will do. We came to Pine Mountain for the Wild Animal Safari and ate here afterwards. This is some of the best BBQ in Georgia! I used to cook BBQ professionally and so I am VERY particular about BBQ and this passed my standards with flying colors. The meat is perfectly chopped and did not have any fat or grissel in it meaning that the cook really cares about the meat. The sauce was tangy, a little spicy and it is homemade which is a fresh breath of air from most places bottled sauces. The service was great and the atmosphere is relaxed. Went for lunch while staying at Callaway gardens. Didn't realize this place was a dive, but we love dives and this did not disappoint. It is literally a barbecue dive and a great one! I order the combo plate consisting of ribs and sliced pork, the portions were enormous! I recommend only getting only meat as I only ate the ribs and was stuffed. The sides were good also, came with green beans, coleslaw, and bbq beans. For me the beans were ok, they kinda tasted like chili BUT I don't typically like beans so I am not really a good judge. The slaw and green beans were excellent, the green beans had so much flavor. My wife order the chipped pork plate or as most would call it "pulled pork" it had lots of smoke flavor and was very tender. Again a HUGE portion. They have two sauces mild and hot, both are great. We are from florida and our bbq is a lot different then this but man was this a nice change of pace. Our bill was $30 for our meals and drinks, and we took enough food home to feed 2-3 more people. We went there for dinner while we stayed at the Lodge and Spa at Callaway Gardens a week ago. We got the full rack of ribs, plate of chicken and pork loins and some sides. These meats were the driest meats we've ever eaten, and we've had a lot of barbeque. Not to mention, the service was lacking. There were only teens and young adults working. We couldn't even get help after we were done eating - no one was around except for the cashier, who was busy. Save your money and get your meals elsewhere. The worst dining experience of my life. The food was barely edible. For example the barbecue pork was dry and bland. I ordered a BLT and the bacon was completely burnt, the tomato looked like it was left out since yesterday. These ingredients were then combined with a piece of lettuce and placed on dry toast without mayonnaise. The Brunswick stew was cold. The meal came with potato chips which we never got. When we requested our chips the staff was extremely rude and refused. The entire experience had to be paid for in advance including tip. Delicious pork BBQ! I got the combo of ribs and tenderloin with beans, corn and pickles. The service was excellent and they even stayed open late for me. I couldn't help but overhear the owner's conversation with his young staff. I thought they were his kids the way he seemed to genuinely care about them. This made me even happier with my meal. Excellent BBQ! Ribs are fall-off-the-bone and pork lion is moist and flavorful. Homemade mild BBQ sauce is very good with just the right kick. Baked beans were a bit spicy, but delicious and black-eyed peas were an unexpected surprise. Atmosphere is very casual; clientele ranged from a biker club to families...everyone was really enjoying the food. There is indoor and outdoor seating, I recommend the outside for people watching. We've been in area for several days. Ate at some nice places and found this the last day. The night before spent over $100 for so-so meal that was cold and staff was indifferent. Two of us had Pork rib dinner and quart of cole slaw. Best ribs ever with two delicious sauces. 2 kinds of baked beans, tasty bread. Just melt in your mouth ribs.
