Today, I visited your location to rent a car, and I must express my extreme disappointment with the experience I had. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was tense and unprofessional. There was an older middle-aged woman, Monique, yelling across the room at customers to get in line. The way she spoke was shockingly loud, aggressive, and completely unwelcoming. It set a negative tone right from the start, and I could sense that other customers were just as uncomfortable as I was. When I finally reached the counter, the interaction was far from what I would expect from a business that prides itself on customer service. Instead of a polite greeting, I was met with a cold, rushed, and impersonal demeanor. It was clear that she had no interest in providing any level of courtesy or professionalism. After I handed over my ID and driver's license, things took a turn for the worse. While processing my payment, Monique yelled at me not to pull my card out of the machine, raising her voice in a manner that was not only rude but completely unnecessary. Her tone was abrasive and demeaning, leaving both me and the other customers around me in shock. People were looking at her, shaking their heads in disbelief at how she was treating a paying customer. At that point, I had to respond and told her not to speak to me like that. I couldn't believe how unprofessional and downright hostile she was acting. This level of disrespect is unacceptable in any setting, but especially when dealing with loyal customers who come to your business expecting a basic level of service and respect. It's clear that Monique's behavior is not only affecting individual customer experiences but also tarnishing the overall reputation of this location. I am urging the management at this location, and corporate, to take immediate action. This situation needs to be addressed seriously. I would strongly recommend reviewing the security footage to witness firsthand how she is treating customers. Her behavior reflects poorly on your brand, and I find it hard to believe that I'm the first person to raise concerns about her conduct. As someone who has rented from your company multiple times, I can honestly say that I have never had an experience like this. I am now reconsidering whether I will return to this location in the future, and I imagine other customers feel the same way after interacting with her. Monique's attitude is driving people away, and I hope you understand the urgency of addressing this issue. Carla, is by far the most unprofessional, rude, and completely useless customer service representative I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Truly great experience! I was visiting from Los Angeles to Michigan , to see family , & i knew I needed a rental car for the two weeks whilst I was there. I'm not too fond of renting a car as it is full of unexpected surprises in confusion but to my surprise this time it was completely opposite. Chenae was the beautiful soul that helped me with my whole rental car experience and let me say she was the best part of the whole trip. She greeted me with the biggest smile, allowed us both to create fun with this process, and probably one of the funniest. She was honest, very helpful, and I truly felt like she wanted to be there for me. I wish nothing but great things for her and for the rest of the company as she is a breath of fresh air that deserves recognition on a daily thank you so much for making me giggle.. Employees of Thrifty Car Rental in Detroit (289 Lucas Dr. location) participate in a "bait-and-switch" scam, to which I fell victim yesterday (12/23/25), mid-afternoon. After securing a rental reservation with a third-party booking site with a $200 deposit more than 6 months ago, two women on duty at Thrifty informed me they could not accept my PayPal Mastercard as valid payment. I have used this card frequently for months online and in person with no problem. The present available credit on it stands around $18,000, my credit is Very Good, and I have a new, enhanced WA state drivers license. Two days ago, I rented a car from Budget using this Mastercard. Following yesterday's absurd refusal at Thrifty, I walked 10 minutes over to the Budget Rental office, and was able to rent another car for a week; I have it now. I suspect Thrifty does this to avoid giving me the discount rate I was guaranteed when I made this third-party booking early this year, so they can rent the vehicle instead at full Christmas rates to someone else. A DECEPTIVE practice, and it looks like I'm simply OUT the $200 deposit I made in the spring. In addition to posting this on all consumer watch websites, I will contact the third party booking site, and recommend they stop sending customers to Thrifty. If I could give zero stars I would!! Being from Texas half the year i have auto insurance through TX. I was told we needed to get their insurance because with MI being a no fault state if there was damage to the vehicle I would have to pay for any damage and be reimbursed by my insurance company. I was preassured and lied to by the representative. I spoke with my insurance company and they advised me that I would turn it in as a claim same as always!! I have called numerous phone numbers and I'm not able to talk to anyone about getting a refund on this insurance!! I told the representative that I had just rented a car for the day about a week before this in MI and the gentleman told me that yes, if I had insurance, it would take care of it, but she kept sayin that it would not over and over!! ALWAYS check your contract with Detroit Thrifty. THEY WILL CHEAT YOU if you decline the added insurance. I have never had this happen, so I did not double check my contract. It was after the charge when through that I found out what happened. They are doing this because they no longer review the actual contact with the customer and are able to take advantage of this. THE WORST CAR RENTAL SERVICE EVER!!! I declined extra insurance and the guy took advantage of me being in an emergency to get to my son who had been shot. The agent told me to sign the paper declining it and it was adding it to my bill. They are big time scammers. These people are cheapskates who lack big picture perspective. We rent from Thrifty often. Rent from all over the country. Not anymore. We backed in to one of their row signs and nicked the bumper on the vehicle. Nothing major. Nothing that any car wouldn't experience parked in a shopping center. But because we were honest, the location manager (Amit Panchal) wrote up an incident report. The damage was small potatoes. Unlikely they would have even noticed upon returning the car. Thrifty could have let it slide. They chose not to. Chintzy. We were billed $489 for a scratch to a bumper. Pathetic. Not customer centric. The damage was for less but then they tacked on a loss-of-use charge and an admin fee. Thrifty, if you're monitoring social media and want to come correct, the rental agreement # was 126019143. Otherwise, we'll take our 50+ rentals per year to Avis or another of your competitors. It's a darn shame because we had liked Thrifty up until now. To preface; I have never had a problem with this Thrifty location previously but, this most recent experience was a disaster. I had a car reserved for 7pm and the flight was delayed, so I go to the rental area around 8pm to find out that Thrifty had NO cars available, so I was behind a number of people stuck in the same situation. I had a dinner meeting that I was already late for and no cars were available even after reserving. Once I did receive a car everything seemed to be working well. I reserved the bottom of the line as I just needed a to-and-fro car. So, this car had no key fob to open the doors and ONLY one door key entry, the driver side. Which, the next day in the below freezing weather would not open the car. I figured that perhaps it was due to washing the car and the lock freezing, which does happen in Michigan. HOWEVER, this required me to problem solve, with the only other door to open, the back hatch, in my work cloths, below freezing temperatures. I had to climb through the back trunk, push the back seat down, navigate around my suitcase that I had left in the car. First of all, embarrassing when the host of the meeting is watching me do this, secondly beyond inconvenient. This happened both on Saturday and Sunday of my rental. Not every time but one time each day. Again, the first time with this experience at this location but, double check that all the features of your car are up to par...and that's if they have a care for you. read more

Thrifty tried to rip me off using their "toll scheme". I knew something was wrong when I received multiple bills adding up to over $100 in "administrative fees" when in reality the total cost of the tolls were around $15. I searched online and the first thing to come up is the lawsuit against them for stealing money from their customers. I was not offered a toll pass at the time of purchase was not informed of any fees at all regarding tolls. They will tell you that it is in the renters agreement. Think about it, THEY WILL TELL YOU IN WORDS LOUD AND CLEAR UPFRONT to bring the vehicle back fueled to same level (in the agreement), make sure the car is clean (in the agreement), you will be charged for damage (in the agreement), etc etc. If all that is in the agreement, then why do you ALWAYS fail to mention the part about tolls. DING DING DING. Can anyone say deceiving way to rob your customers? And I say always because I have a few other friends and family members that went through the exact same thing and received the exact same bills. We decided to test it out. Two of us went to two separate locations and we have them on film with audio of them telling us about everything except the toll fees. Coincidence? I think not. Long story short, we will be forwarding this evidence to the Attorney Generals office. Obviously we will never rent from them and I will make sure to spread the word. DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF. If they truly care about their customers, they will tell you upfront about ALL fees included and not mask it. I agree with the others that the staff here has been trained to trick you and/or fraudulently add charges that you previously declined. I was charged 3 days of LIS @18.85 a day. The charges were not agreed upon or made clear at the time of rental and were not necessary for the use of the vehicle. At the time of rental, we declined all optional insurance coverages but did accept additional charges for adding a second driver to the contract. On return, I went back to the counter to dispute the LIS charges, but the counter was understaffed, and the line was too long to wait due to our flight. DON'T rent from these people. If you must, thoroughly scrutinize the paperwork for extra charges before you leave the premises. And our car reeked of cannabis. read more

Since the website set up by Thrifty Services will not allow me to answer more than one question on the survey (yet another area they have completely failed in), I felt the need to email this to the president of the company. And now I will share it with future consumers. Customer Service: Excellent (before renting the vehicle) Quality of vehicles: completely unsafe Would I ever rent again: never would I put my life in danger like this again. Would I ever recommend: lol. (Insert cuss word of choice here) no. I do understand that with a cheap vehicle, problems are to be expected. But here is where Thrifty disappointed: Upon walking to the lot to pick my vehicle, three out of the five compacts available would not turn on at all. (One due to a dead battery, two just made knocking noises. In case no one at the Detroit location is aware, knocking noises ARE NOT OK) Upon finally choosing the vehicle that would both turn on and provide the trunk space necessary, I found out while entering a highway that if I needed to quickly brake, it was going to be out of the question. A person driving in front of me on the entrance to the highway had slammed on their brakes (for what reason I'm not sure). Reacting quickly, I also attempted to step on my brakes so as to slow my car down. (You know, so I wouldn't hit the car in front of me?) this is when I realized that the brakes were in DIRE need of replacement. (Because they didn't work). Luckily for me (and quite frankly this entire company), I am able to QUICKLY react to emergency situations and was able to swerve out of the way just in time. I pulled off to the side of the highway, and let the car coast to a stop. I attempted a few times to test out the brakes by going 5-7 mph on the side of the highway and noticed the brakes would only work if pressed no more than half way to the ground. However, if completely pressed to the ground, the brakes as I've said MULTIPLE times in this email, D I D N O T W O R K. Upon returning the vehicle, I let the employee receiving it know what had happened. Her response? "Oh sometimes that happens" ?!?!?! Excuse this entire company?! Again, I understand that with a low price comes low quality with vehicles. But to put your customers lives in danger by not regularly inspecting the vehicles will one day empty not only the company's pockets due to lawsuits, but will also leave hundreds if not thousands of people unemployed. This company should pray to whatever God they want to pray to, and thank their God that I had the reflexes necessary to swerve out of the way. Or I would find a lawyer that would make this company my bitch. Sincerely, Count your blessings because I could have sued you for all of them had I been a mediocre driver. read more

I spent $180 to rent a car for one night. I noticed they had a car charger so I purchased it for $9.99. When I got into the car, the car had USB outlets, and a prong charge! The woman behind the counter knew I had the cables, and made no mention of this. Additionally, the cigarette charger didn't work, and when I dropped it off and told them it was defective (they wouldn't eve look) they said No, they weren't going to take it back (or even replace it for a working one). I'm not sure why they didn't disclose the car features, and why they felt the need to hose me on a defective charger. read more

This review is not just about Thrifty car rental at the Detroit airport. First, the personnel and the basic service, the cars - all okay. But here's my beef: Michigan is a "no fault" insurance state. Before leaving, we checked with our regular auto agent and asked if we needed to buy any extra insurance when renting. She said, "No, you are covered." Well, the agent launched into what seemed like a "hard a_ _" up sale to buy insurance for $16 a day! She kept saying, if you get in an accident, damage to the car will not be covered. She gave a complex explanation of "no fault" state insurance rules. It was like a shell game . . . However, she drove it home so hard that I got scared enough that I purchased the extra insurance - not really knowing what exactly it was I was buying! Someone needs change this - what a bad dream it was - and expensive. If you are going to MI and you're renting a car, I suggest you do some research and try to get to the truth - it may save you money. read more

Arrived at Thrifty Rental Car to pick up our rental on 9/8 and they were so short on help we waited 20 mins for a car as a Blue Chip Member and when we dropped our car off there was only 1 person checking in 2 long lines of cars at 6am. It took 30 mins to check our car in and another 10 mins while the shuttle bus driver had us wait on the bus while he pulled up the cars checked in because the lines continued to get longer.
