I used Thrifty Rooter on a neighborhood recommendation for my sewer line a couple of month priors and was pleased with the work and the price $180. I have an exterior drain on both sides of my house that meet in my front yard and go to the street to drain off rainwater. I requested Thrifty Rooter to rooter the pipe and was quoted $350. When the serviceman arrived and saw several drain covers, he wanted to charge over $2200. I told him absolutely not and that I was quoted $350 and that the drain was all connected and the plug was probably near the sidewalk/street as there is a tree there and that is where I had prior plugs. I called the company and they again stated the quote was $350. After he completed the job and removed the plug at the curb, he then told me he was going to charge a "good price" of $1000. He took pictures of the drain covers that he had lifted out but he did not go into the drain from all of the locations, only a couple. We disagreed on price and the company asked for my credit card and said they would not charge me until they talked to the serviceman. A few days later, they called and told me the price was going to be $800 and charged my credit card. I informed them that I could have had LA Hydro-jet do the job for about half the price, as they had quoted me just over $425. I no longer trust this company. read more

Recently I was scammed by Ritz Plumbing so I'm very cautious about hiring plumbers. My main drain had to be roto rootered so I called Charlie's Sewer & Drain Rooter for an estimate -- they have great reviews. Their estimator came and quoted me $1795. I told him that was too expensive for me so I'll get other estimates. A friend recommended Thrifty Rooter (Glendale) so I called them although their reviews were half positive and half negative. Martin arrived in 30 minutes -- he was honest and very professional. He cleaned out the main drain -- lots of baby wipes came out. My bill was $200. It's $180 for the 1st 100 feet and $12 a foot thereafter. I will definitely call Thrifty Rooter again and request Martin. A lot depends upon who comes out to do the job. I liked Susie the operator who answered the phone. I told her I was cautious because I been scammed and she said "We're not that kind of company." read more

We requested an unclogging of the kitchen drain line since we used them prior to this and it worked out well. They came and unclogged the kitchen drain and all was working. Unfortunately, it was within a few weeks when we noticed that the drainage was getting plugged up again. Note that last time, things lasted for almost a year. Unfortunately, when I called them back, they said the guarantee was only for 30 days and that they wouldn't cover the second cost if they found food in the kitchen drain. Both the upstairs neighbor and ourselves have learned not to throw out any food down the kitchen drain (even though we have a food disposal, we still don't) and I typically run hot water through the drain to keep things flowing. Unfortunately, Thrifty Rooter really failed us this time. It's now into the second month and things are fully clogged again. Guess I can't trust them anymore. Too bad. read more

I had a clog-up of my house to the sewer line. I noted in my old notes that prior plumber of mine had recommended Thrifty Rooter. I called them up and they gave me a quote over the phone, and had a worker out within a half-hour. The worker was Jesus (R-18). He did an professional job and snaked from my front yard cleanout plug to the street. He cleared the clogs, got out a couple of pieces of root and we were done. No show nor call by 11:10am when I called & was informed a plumber "hadn't been dispatched yet" but told someone would be there. Finally, I have found an honest and fair plumbing and rooter company. I have a trustworthy plumber; Pat at Story Plumbing but he does not do sewer line repairs or clearing. It is almost impossible to find honest and fair tradesmen these days, almost all are con artists charging ridiculously high prices and lying about what needs to be done. On the day of the appointment they called to ask, as a "favor", if they could come "right now" (4 hours early). When I could not accommodate this they canceled the appointment and rescheduled for another day. When the appointment finally happened the plumber was incredibly inconsiderate. While testing pipes he told me he KNEW WOULD LEAK, he allowed water to leak on to my belongings. He also left mud and grime all over the shower and bathroom. I had used Thrifty Rooter for decades and they were great, but they've recently been bought out and are using third party plumbers. Instead of charging an hourly rate, they now charge random amounts per each task. They quoted me $250 to replace a faucet (which I provided.) I refused the job. I had someone else install it and it took five minutes! $250 for five minutes work is outrageous. They've now lost me as a customer forever. read more

The layout of the pipes was weird and we had major issues pinpointing the exact cause of the plumbing problem. Finally, one day a pipe unexpectedly "burst" and flooded one unit. The "customer service" of this company is "very, very, very poor." If I can rate it for "no stars" I would. My landlord called this company for the second time now. In both times, their plumber was "late." When I have made my appointment for today's service, I explained to them what I had "requested to fix the drain in my tub, the knob in my shower, and the faucet replaced in my bathroom sink." I have informed her that I need to leave at 12 noon because I have to go to work. The secretary in their office, her name is Susie, gave me a "window" of 9am-11am for the plumber to come. The plumber came at 11am. Then, checks the work to be done, with "no tools on his hand." I told him that I need to leave at 12 noon to go to work. He checks the work to be done. I told him that I had requested for the "faucet to be replaced." The plumber said that "you just have to clean it." OMG! Why is the plumber telling me to clean the faucet when I am requesting him to replace it? The plumber then goes down at his truck for 30 mins. I was "VERY UPSET" that I called the office. The secretary said that if want to have the job done, it takes time. I know it takes time. So why, she scheduled the plumber to come late, when in fact, she" KNOWS how much time approximately the job would entail." The plumber finished the job. I was "late" for my work for 2 HOURS. Their secretary never apologized for their "inconveniences" that they have caused to me --- from the schedule, to the plumber, and their over-all "very, very, very poor customer service." read more

Thrifty Rooter is always available just a phone call away. I really love that about their service when they first started. Lately, I am not sure if they hired someone new, but the person on their telephone lines sound rather harsh. This happened the last time I called in to set up an appointment for repairs at my home. She said that they would call me back, but she didn't take my details, in order for her to call me back. I waited a day and when there was no sign of a return call, I did so myself. There was someone new on the line and the experience was much different, but that initial one was a downer for me. read more

youch the reviews here are terrible! but my two recent experiences with these guys have been completely solid. i used these guys b/c first, my immediate neighbor did. we are hillside, and his drain was totally backed up. required using that industrial sized very big 100' motorized snake, and harry who helped him was dedicated to solving the issue -- going as far down and deep as possible, and insisting they keep the snake going until they hit the sewer line on the street. i know -- because i had my lazy ass on my neighbors deck having a drink while they were boring away at the drain via an access port! and then my neighbor and harry kept interrupting my drink asking me if i could turn on faucets in the house so they could check the flow! so ok ok i put down the drink and did my good deed for humanity for the day and turned on the faucets for them! my neighbor's drain clearing cost $100. took about an hour. and was a lot of dirty wet work. cut to two weeks later, and my bathroom sink is running very slowly. i actually took the drain apart, poked away as far as i could but i simply did not have the tools to go much further. i could see as soon as i looked into the wall the pipe immediately bent down at 90 degrees and i also know from history, there were roots in this drain. i thought maybe there's a hairball somewhere close i can get. but no hairball. at least as far as i saw. i called friday, they set up an appointment for saturday morning, and martin comes. jovial, smiley, eager to help. he used a handheld router on a drill. went about 15 feet, pulls out some roots. asks if i want him to go further b/c who knows what else is down there and there's the possibility the line gets caught and stuck in the roots unless they use the bigger machine. i asked, you can feel when there is resistance, right? he says yes -- so i say go as far and deep as you can but do not be aggressive. btw we are talking about the drain. i don't know where you mind just went. he puts the router back in, this time goes maybe 25 feet, pulls it out and now there is a tennis-ball size clump of roots which he's yanked out! we try the drain, it all runs clear... and so i knew we got that sucker. this was a fairly quick job -- thank heavens i guess. took about 20 minutes only, cost $70. which is better than the $95 minimum that my other normal (and very good) plumbers charged. i felt this was a smaller job, so i didn't want to call out the big guns i have used in the past (moe, money wrench...). and for this, thrifty router did a great job. i have no complaints, my neighbor has no complaints. i can see a lot of people here do and yes that totally sucks when a service provider does a terrible job. but i can tell you from start to finish my experience here was very good. the person who answered the phone on friday was nice, the lady who called this morning to confirm was nice. and everything went well. call them. ask for harry or martin. and i think you'll be happy you did. read more
