I really want to love this thrift store because they actually have some great items -- the furniture section is solid, the book selection is fun to browse, and the kids' area has a nice variety. But the customer service is truly awful. The staff always seem irritated or uninterested in helping, and if something doesn't have a price tag, good luck. they'll either refuse to sell it or mark it up so high it ends up more expensive than retail. I dread having to ask a question or go through checkout because the whole experience feels unpleasant and stressful. It's a shame, because the store itself has potential, but the attitude behind the counter ruins it. read more

The prices here are high but they do tend to have a lot to chose from if your willing to pay. We bought a lovely 50's Boston rocker, well it was cracked at the rear, but they knocked off more and we got it for like $15 or $25. I repaired it with a metal bracket and epoxied it to keep the rustic look from deteriorating more and it has been rocked in every day now for more than a year. The service is ok. It tends to be crowded at times. Be selective when you come here but you may find hidden gems. read more

3.7 stars overall yet 5 stars for customer service and the chair purchase. I had to dock off a star due to some difficulties and the prices. I found the perfect item - an old antique rocking chair with wear and tear. It had a big crack and minor repair issues so they reduced the price to $22. We were able to fix the cracks and noticed several repairs on the chair. I thought the price was fair, since we had to do repair work on it. The prices on items at this thrift shop were high to me, yet I did enjoy walking through the store. I didn't find anything useful to buy. Customer service was very good, and the sales clerk lowered the price of the chair after my husband pointed out flaws. I liked their display of jewelry. Parking can get difficult. A car parked too close to use - making it impossible for my husband to open his car door to get inside. He is average height and size. We almost got hit by a car trying to get out of the parking lot. I have to say this is probably the worst thrift store prices & customer service l've ever encountered. The lady who checked us out was an elderly lady whose name on the receipt was Victoria. She was probably the worst customer service experience l've ever had. She was incredibly rude and was huffing, puffing and rolling her eyes at me while scanning my items like I was such a HUGE inconvenience for her. She also made it seem like the worse thing in the world when I asked for a military discount that is so clearly shown behind the checkout. Not only did I feel disrespected but I felt bamboozled with the prices on "which she didn't even total in the military discount to my purchases BTW" but $6 for a USED baby pajamas? Selection of clothes is excellent most times. I'm willing to drive 50 minutes to see what comes in on days they supposedly shift inventory because workers there are courteous so long as you are kind yourself. Their prices may be on the higher side and sporadic at times (Levi's jeans can be $8 for vintage and sometimes $14 for modern) but their rewards program more than makes up for it--I come back looking forward to the day I can redeem $60 off a purchase. read more

The times that I've gone here there has been a pretty good selection of clothes, household items, furniture, and other miscellaneous stuff. Even though it's under another name I believe they're affiliated with AmVets and will do home pickup of big furniture items people want to donate, which is great! Store is pretty well organized, they keep the floor well stocked and offer some nice promotions. A lot cheaper and better than most goodwills these days. I can also tell this thrift store is pretty good because of the bad attitude of staff working here, no matter what, no matter who you interact with, no matter when or what you're trying to buy. I don't know what the hourly pay rate is for this place so I can't fault them actually. People working here are tired and fed up with you before you even approach them with a question and there's one cashier lady who may be the most unhappiest person I've ever interacted with. No matter what you do when you approach her with your items at the front, you're doing it wrong and she's going to let you know about it. You'd probably have to be a better hunter than I to find serious surprises in here; my cursory glance did not unearth any hidden gems. However, the kids section is decent (I was looking mainly at the boys section, 12-24 months) and most of the clothes I sifted through were very gently used. I ended up snagging a couple onesies and a few pairs of pants for one of my favorite little guys. About a 2.5: I was excited to check this thrift store out off of Route 1; there's a Goodwill down the road, and so seeing this tucked off of Sherwood made me quite curious. The thrift store itself looks like an old general store from the exterior; inside, there were some home decor items that seemed quite dated, but their racks of clothing and toys seem to be quite of a selection. I didn't see any high-end designer items here, considering the shoes and such were all scattered about the store. The prices also seem a little steep, as most (very worn) trousers were $14, compared to other thrift stores offering usually half that cost with better wear! I've driven by this place a handful of times and when an opportunity arose so I could finally check it out, I entered the store feeling a little hopeful I'd find something really good. Unfortunately, I left feeling a little "meh". Upon entering the store, the ceiling is a little lower making the space feel a little cramped. There are a lot of gently used clothing and some decent prices but many are just comparable to other thrift stores. Some days they have different sales and they even have a sign by the front to remind you. I've seen some real nice furniture, but unfortunately, they are already marked as "sold". I guess you'd need to be quick and diligent to find some nice things. Some home decor and glassware were looking a little sparce but with some careful observation, you may find a unique item...like stainless steel wine glasses. I haven't been successful in discovering some new finds during my recent visit because a lot of the clothing I thought I would be interested in were pretty much inspired by the 90s mom look. I may try to come back in a few months or so to see if I find something I could upcycle to fit our needs. Donations are also accepted at this particular thrift store. They are located to the left of the store when you're viewing it from the front. I have yet to donate here but at least I know it's available. All in all, I would say it's worth checking out because you never know what you may find. You would probably have a better chance at finding something unique or precious. read more

I went with several of my children recently and each of them found lovely "treasures" and some cool clothes, many with department store tags still attached! Many of the people working there have been there for years, and I am always greeted with kind words and smiles. I've gone several times as my husband and I were looking for dresser. 3 different occasions in a 3 week time period we went and there was a dresser sitting on the store floor that said sold and waiting for pick up but each time we went it had not moved or was even sold. We have dropped off items before no-issue but today were told we were not allowed to drop our clothes, or small desk (no furniture) BUT another gentleman walked up placed his large chair and small night stand and the guy told him I'm gonna look away just leave your stuff. If it's no furniture be consistent and have signs because the entire drop off area had furniture, clothes, a dinning room set and many other items.baside from the inconsistent drop off the store here just seems expensive and trashy for second-hand items. This place is huge. As others stated, there are knick-knacks, lots of clothing (from babies to adults), useful household items, etc. A person could spend lots of time looking at all those items - and you HAVE to because quite a bit of them are far from winners - but that's part of the fun, I think. I scanned the place and saw probably 3 things I would like - and use. One of them was a stuffed animal like my dog, but I remembered that I wasn't going to buy any more of those, even if it was only $2. Anyway, I ended up getting a long sleeved Gap t-shirt thing, brand new with tags, for $3.98. Can't beat that. Mind you, there were some really kewl kids toys I would totally buy if I had a reason to. I mean, there was this huge plane that a kid could ride on. Alas, no kids - no reason to buy the toy. If I go back, it's gonna be on a day I have time to sift through things. It says "Thrift Store" but when I came inside this dark, dingy, dusty, dirty establishment with my sleeping baby in hand (the cart gate prevented bringing a stroller into the store), the price tags were giving me consignment prices: $25 for a dirty old shirt...$90 coat....$35 blazer. I stumbled upon this place after leaving INOVA one day and decided to take a look around. Since I've moved to this area, I've found some pretty crappy Thrift stores, but this might be my new favorite. The store is pretty big and surprisingly organized. To comment on what the other Yelper's have mentioned, I did not notice any odd smells. If if would have...I definitely would have left the store...but I digress. I asked a random customer in the store about their half off days and then found out about the tag sales they have every day. When you walk in the store, there is a sign hanging from the ceiling that lets you know which color tags are half off for the day. Also, listen for the women who announces other sales. Sometimes they will throw in another tag to add to the 50% discount. Now for the quality of clothing. I was pleasantly surprised at what the store had. Just like any thrift store, you have to go through each piece, but I'd say I found some damn good deals. Yesterday I purchased a 100% cashmere Brooks Brothers sweater for $2.98 and a Van Heusen sweater for $6.98....cant beat that. I also found some pieces from the Gap and Lacoste mixed in there...too bad it wasn't my size! Ladies, wear something easily removable...there are no dressing rooms! If you have on a tank top, you'll be good to go. For whatever reason, they seem to have a lack of mirrors. I wish they would add more. The only thing I can say negative about this place is that 1. Sometimes, some of the clothing can be overpriced, but if you spend enough time in the store, you're almost guaranteed to find a few gems. 2. In terms of thrift stores in this area - this has to be one of the best. The prices are more or less thrift store prices and if you have the time (and come early) you can find some goodies. I enjoyed my time at this store. They have plenty of clothing options, plenty of furniture, records and books. I was surprised at the large furniture selection. I think there is ample opportunity to find options here if you take the time to look. I also experienced good customer service when I was there. There was a very nice African American man who checked me out and he was kind and also made sure that I used my points towards my purchase. The employees do stay to themselves and seem a little tired but if you've ever worked in retail you can relate so I won't judge that. Overall it's a great thrift store option. I've been to this thrift store a couple of times in the past few weeks trying to look for something very specific. It has helped me develop an opinion on the thrifting experience at the is location. It has everything you might need including, but not limited to exercise equipment, blankets, plates, toys and furniture. Truly, one of the biggest selection of second hand items I have ever come across. It is slightly more expensive than Goodwill (on Richmond Highway). It has a lot of merchandise that is in good to excellent condition to justify their higher prices. However, it does not have a surplus of good to excellent condition merchandise with designer and/or well know clothing labels. It doesn't run sales and/or specials on a consistent basis. In conclusion, I have had better thrifting experiences at other stores. However, the inventory is so large at this location I find myself stopping in while running errands in the area just on the off chance I find something. read more

New favorite thrift store! I walked in telling myself I would only buy a belt if they had what I specifically wanted... I walked out with five belts, a purse in the style I've been looking for, a skirt to replace one I had to retire last year, and a whole bunch more besides. I like to sew/reconstruct my own clothes, so I love shopping at thrift stores for unusual, garment quality fabrics that I can refashion into something awesome for myself. (But I also find things I like that fit me off the rack, just less commonly) Plus the prices are excellent compared to some other, more well-known thrift chains in the area. I wish I could give five stars, but TSC likes to fill endcaps and shelves on top of racks with stuff, stuff, and more stuff. While I appreciate them making use of all available space (and having more-different things than other thrift stores), I had a hard time finding all the belts, all the scarves, and their whole selection of women's shoes. But I'm looking forward to going back in a week or two to see what else is new! read more

I loved my experience at this thrift shop. I enjoy the additional discount on specified colored tags, ask if you aren't sure which color is on discount that day. I have seen this at other thrift shops and it makes the hunt more challenging and helps in making decisions. There are a lot of shoes, I saw some awesome high end brands -- but not in my size. The only issue is that they are scattered everywhere so you have to keep on searching as you go through the racks. There was a large variety of women's clothing as well as men's clothing. The staff was very friendly and helpful in looking at the purses behind the counter. Maybe unlike other thrifiters I enjoy the store to be a little cluttered requiring a hunt and search, specifically when the prices match the effort needed to find the treasures. The Thrift Shop Center, located on Sherwood Hall Lane, is easily seen from Richmond Highway, driving south to Fort Belvoir. It is one of several thrift shops in the Richmond Highway corridor between the City of Alexandria and Fort Belvoir. This reviewer has purchased several items, that includes clothing, from this shop and has not had trouble with employees regarding service, pricing, and purchases. Think twice, and examine very, very carefully before buying electronics, furniture, and toys from the Thrift Shop Center. This particular merchandise looks bad to this reviewer. A two-star rating is awarded. Accessing the store, at the corner of Sherwood Hall Lane and Richmond Highway, by making a left turn from Sherwood Hall Lane is troublesome. You always have to be on the lookout for vehicles making the right turn from Richmond Highway on to Sherwood Hall Lane. Parking in the store's lot, as I have discovered repetitively, is at a premium. I can't recall a time I have shopped at the Thrift Shop Center, or drove past it, that the parking lot wasn't full. The parking lot is in need of repaving. The front entrance of the store is littered with shopping carts and large merchandise items (e.g. seasonal furniture, bicycles). As recalled by several Yelp reviews, this store has a distinct moldy smell. read more

Need to reduce prices on lamps and fixtures and possibly furniture as well. I'm not sure who would pay $35 for a beat-up, hideous, brass lamp without a lamp shade from the 1970s, but seeing as they weren't moving them...no one. You can buy a nice new table lamp with new wiring and that doesn't need a lampshade or repainting for $20-40 at any number of places from HomeGoods, Marshall 's, TJ Maxx, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc. The $5-10 range would be more appropriate given the amount of refurbishment that needs to go into these to make them presentable. At the current prices, you can buy a new lamp cheaper elsewhere than an old beat up one that needs to be refurbished. The selection here is pretty good compared to Goodwill down the street when it comes to furniture, lamps and fixtures for people who like to refurbish and repurpose. read more

WORST customer service ever experienced at any thrift store. We did nothing to warrant such hostile treatment from the elderly checkout lady. I smiled and handed her our three items and she shoved them at me and rudely told me to take off the hangers, as if I was dumb to not have done so to begin with. She had a horrible attitude and glared at all the customers. I wish I could say something nice about this place but it is truly a dump. All of the items of remote value are extremely overpriced, and all of the price tags are handwritten (none of which is legible), and the customer service was bad enough for me to never want to return again. Okay. Let's be honest. This isn't exactly in my neck of the woods, but it was well worth the risk of being pulled over for my expired tags and the 35 minutes to get there. Situated in the middle of nowhere sits this hoarder's dream. Place is gigantic and demands at least an hour to sufficiently scour the scene. Most everything is organized, more or less, by article and size, and is very easy to navigate. The prices are spot on, ranging from $3-$8 for each item. Better yet, the day I went, they offered 1/2 off specific colored tags. Again, no dressing rooms, but if you're here to begin with, then you already know the laws that govern the thrifting world. Pros: - LOTS of stuff, as others have said. Leave yourself plenty of time and you can find some gems. - Some things are a good deal. I got a beautiful scarf there as well as a couple of tops for a decent price ($3-$5). Cons: - Some things are overpriced. I looked at jackets this winter and they had old, musty, outdated coats for $40! That is not really "thrifty" to me. Stretched out, faded men's tshirts were too expensive. - They don't weed out the stained and damaged donated items so you'll have to look over the items yourself. I noticed a lot of stains. - Don't waste your time on the furniture. Nothing would look good in a modern home and a lot of the stuff is broken. - Children running hog-wild all over the place. - The place just seemed dirty to me. Clothes up to the ceiling, clutter everywhere, dusty. Tons of weird little tchotchkes, some of which belong in the dump. If that's your kind of thing, go for it. I'll probably go back, but it is definitely nowhere close to the nicest or cheapest thrift store I've been too. read more

Before judging this place, try to remember that 1. it benefits the veterans 2. it is dependent on whatever folks donate and 3. it is ALWAYS busy so good stuff gets snapped up quickly. Yes of course there are good high end items but they don't last long. Like most thrifts it has the color ticket of the day system for discounts. See what today's color ticket is and shop those for rock bottom bargains. Or shop quickly and often to snap up the high end stuff as soon as it hits the floor. I LOVE this place. I grew up in the area and never understood why my parents and my grandfather loved it until now that I'm an adult and have a place of my own to decorate, and bills to pay.. when I can appreciate the treasures I can find at the uber cheap prices. I watched this lady make off with two solid wood children's rocking chairs and was extremely jealous. They would have been perfect for my son's room! I saw some really nice pieces of furniture that I really did not need, so luckily, there was a lot of other stuff that caught my attention. I made off with a huge Babar painting (in French) for $6.98, two 8"x10" beach scene paintings for $4.98 each and a cute little bear statue. PLUS they give a 10% military discount. I was psyched that I walked away with a cart full of decors for my new home for $18+. I can't wait to go back!!! I REALLY really had to control myself and not get A LOT of things that I wanted and was there for 2 hours trying to control myself. I love thrift stores- so this really hurts me. I don't like this one. The front facade greets you w/ the smell of urine, the inside is junky. I really tried to dig around and uncover the silver lining, but had no such luck. Maybe just an off day. My recommendation - keep driving. read more
