My wife and I stopped here for dinner last night for the first time w/o knowing much about it. We were pleasantly surprised! We had the seafood fondue as an appetizer, which was full of big chunks of crab and shrimp. It was rich and cheesy - I'm already convinced it's a must-order item the next time we go. It's also definitely big enough to share between 4 people, which seems harder to find among appetizers these days. I had the cornmeal walleye and my wife had a bison burger on brioche with blue cheese. She loved the sweetness of the brioche with the saltiness of the blue cheese. My walleye and mashed potatoes were very good, although the fish may have been a tad over done. We're excited to return next time we are in or are passing through Davenport. I have Sunday Brunch frequently. It's very good with a variety of breakfast and typical Sunday meal items. Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, gravy, desserts. Their bloody mary's used to be really good with a lot of condiments. They use Zing Zang bloody mary mix. They have a few rooms that you can reserve. I reserved the upstairs room for my mother's 75th birthday on a Sunday for brunch. It is accessible by two stairwells on either side of the room. They assigned us a wait person which was really nice. My crawfish rangoons were absolutely horrible and my blackened fish taco was the worst! They used 2-year old corn tortillas that they microwaved for about 20 minutes. They were tough like leather and were inedible! The only saving grace out of my whole meal were the cornbread crabcakes. They were really good. But still... Stopped in for a meal on our way back home after being out of town. It was a sunday, and we didn't realize our only option would be the buffet brunch. We had no idea how much it cost, until our check came. Thankfully, it was very affordable and the food was very good. The only negative would be the snotty princess girls acting as hostesses. As soon as we walked in, we got a stare, up and down, as if assessing our looks, what we were wearing, etc.... I had to look around to make sure we weren't missing a dress code (and saw other patrons more under dressed than we were). Pressed for time, my coworkers and I stopped by the Thunder Bay Grille for lunch. I'm having a hard time giving it 2 stars, but it's the appropriate rating. The Pros: Pleasant and polite service. Efficient and quick (place isn't really crowded during lunch hours) Relatively low prices. The Cons: Buffalo burger was overdone. The buns were flat and dry. Food seemed like something from a college bbq fundraiser. Of course, the dinner experience seems to be significantly different. Had the warm goat cheese appetizer which was okay but there was more breading than actual cheese. Side Caesar salad was okay, but nothing special. My dad took me here for brunch a couple times. The service was always good, very attentive staff, willing to go the extra mile. The nice thing about the brunch is that there is so much to choose from. I like having a lot of choices and to be honest, sometimes when it comes to brunch I'm not quite sure what I am in the mood for, so the choices help. On the downside, I don't know that I was really blown away by the food offered for brunch. Then again, I felt like each time I went back for something, I was getting the last, burnt bits that had been left in the heating tray. One of my favorite restaurants ever. I wish they could pick thus place up chef and all and move it to Golden CO. Discovered this gem on a road trip to NY. Stopped again on the way back and made it a two time stopping point on our second trip. Beautiful interior and ambiance, excellent service, original and diverse menu and fantastic food. Very clean place. Beautifully decorated. Wait staff very nice and prompt at keeping drinks filled. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich on a pretzel bun. It has a crispy coleslaw. The pork was just spice with no real flavor. I ordered a side of raspberry sauce to try n give it some flavor. The crispy coleslaw also had bo flavor. All you could taste was onion. I went here with reservations and when we arrived, we were seated promptly. The service was very attentive and checked in on us regularly. The atmosphere was nice for a date night, but also seemed to have a wide array of guests. We started off with the goat cheese small plate as an appetizer. It was good, but we didn't get much for the price. I ordered the ribeye steak medium with mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked as orrdered and tasted great. The person I was with ordered drunken sirloin tips, which she had ordered previously. She liked it both times she ordered it. My family and I try to always come here on our way to NE or on our way back to NJ. We've been there about 4 times now and we've never had an issue until today. It started off with the manager not even acknowledging us when we were waiting at the hostess stand to put our name in. He didn't even say anything like "give me a sec or I'll be right with you." The food has always been great, no issues there but today they up charged us on some of the things we ordered. We ordered 3 kids meals which states on their menu that you have a choice of fries, fruit or broccoli also includes your choice of soda, milk or tea. The restaurant charged us for the soda and the fruit (which the waitress states there is an up charge for the fruit- which does not state that on their kids menu). They also charged an extra $4 for the Riesling I had ordered which the drink menu said $8. The waitress we had sucked big time, her demeanor and attitude made us feel unwelcome but when I observed her with her other tables she was bubbly as she can be. When we asked her about the up charges she just shrugged us off and said "I didn't write the menu." She also did not ask my husband if he wanted a salad with his entree (which was included). I'm sorry but if you choose to be in the service industry, at least act like a human being and be nice. My husband went to the manager who didn't seem too pleased with him questioning the up charges but they did end up fixing it. He also had made a comment "oh yeah we were just talking about you." Like it was a bad thing. My husband said he was professional about it but seem annoyed. Another thing, the kids meals came with Oreos. The waitress never asked us if we wanted them nor did she ask us after we mentioned it to her. When we mentioned it to the manager they said they never ask because to many parents get upset, which seems like a bs excuse. The waitress was lucky she even received a tip because she didn't deserve it. I'm sad this time around was such a crappy experience because we really did like it here. Circumstances brought me to Davenport twice in the last 5 weeks from the EMy pick for dinner has been Thunder Bay. My first experience was great. Ate in the bar area and the bartender was very good. They grill a killer ribeye. As good as I've had. Nice selection of local and regional craft beers. Caesar was above average. Roasted rosemary potatoes are also a real thumbs up. Second visit you got the impression the bartender was there until something better came up employment wise. No eye contact, seemed rushed. Didn't serve a beer just dropped it off on his way to another task. Seems like the bartender was also the pivot man for the kitchen in some fashion. Good steak, good beer and surrounding but seems like their staff training and rules could be improved. That said I will be back. .....and I did return. Food was a good as ever and the bartender was a perfect fit for this type of dining venue. Talked me into the ribs which did not disappoint, they were very meaty and tender with ample sauce. Visited here last night due to proximity to my hotel. I was very surprised right through the front door! I sat in the very comfortable bar area. I ordered the cedar plank salmon with rice pilaf, vegetables, a ceasar salad, and a Cody Road bourbon on ice. The salmon was cooked to perfection, the vegetables were fantastic, the rice pilaf was, of course, rice pilaf, and the ceasar salad was great! The service was great too. My husband and I were driving on I80 and my father happened to be headed by davenport at the same time randomly so we met here for dinner! We wanted a place we could bring our small dog and not leave him in the car. They have a patio that is nice (a little buggy this night) but so perfect!
