After seeing the comment to my first review that they are trying to improve, I figured I would follow up because it is only fair to do so if possible. I had a supplier review a week or so ago and swung in for dinner to see if anything had gotten better. I am happy to say it was a pleasant surprise that things had appeared to be improved. The wait staff was much more attentive and timely, and the menu had appeared to have been changed for the better. Although this is a small sample size (only went back once, by comparison to the multiple times I had been their prior), I definitely want to increase my rating to 4 stars based on this last experience. My pork chop was good, but a little over cooked, and the service was top notch. The chicken Marsala was a bit too creamy for our liking. The deserts were mostly bad, except for the lava cake. My experience was very good. We came in just before closing and the employees were very nice and did not resent our late arrival. There were a few other customers and they were already eating. I ordered the Fresh Cedar Planked Salmon. It was so good and I walked out feeling stuffed. My wife had the Shrimp Alfredo and she was very pleased with it. Came in Valentines Day weekend with my wife and we ordered their Alfredo With Grilled Chicken, and their Herb Roasted Chicken, which was delivered to our table under cooked, very gummy and running with red blood. The waiter Charlie never gave the option to choose the temperature of the chicken or I would said medium well or well done. I figured by name being Herb Roast Chicken it would be pretty much a great cooked meal, but I was wrong. My wife also had a couple small slices of bread that came with her meal that we tried to get another order of, but the waiter still couldn't seem to get it right. He brought us out 2 orders of breads that were not even close to being the same bread that was included with my wife's dinner. We still tipped him $10 on a $40 balance... Went there for lunch on a Saturday with another person. Staff was very friendly even when the computers were down for a few minutes due to weather and orders took a few minutes longer to get out of the kitchen. Atmosphere was great and comfortable. Ordered the BLT & Bacon sandwich meal and the fresh atlantic salmon. The chardonnay dill sauce on the salmon was amazing! I substituted rice with fried potatoes and glad I did. Potatoes tasted great. The BLT & Bacon sandwich was also delicious. Try the margarita & pina colada drink - very tasty! The kitchen even made a batch of their delicious biscuits upon request which was a treat. This place is big. It's mostly a hunter's lodge style restaurant. But it has a little bit of sports bar and banquet hall mixed in. We got in at 7:00 PM on Saturday. The place was packed but we got a table. Probably because I called ahead and got a reservation. I'm so good...lol. Anyway, I'll give this 4 starts compared to other similar style restaurants. Like Outback or any other chain steak place. Compared to a high end steak place this place would not compare. The food was OK. I liked the atmosphere. Prices were decent. Great lunch spot! I've been twice now for work lunches, and was very happy with the food, service, and atmosphere both times. I had french onion soup and the salad bar on my first visit. It was a quick and healthy lunch, until I found the oreo fluff for dessert at the salad bar! On today's visit, our group of ten ordered off the lunch menu so the service was quite a bit slower - but I was very impressed with the entree selections. The menu offered many sandwich and lunch-portion entrees for under $10, and all got good reviews from my coworkers. My chicken chorizo wrap was delicious! Thunder Bay has a rustic, outdoorsy theme making it easy to pretend you're at a national park lodge, rather than making a quick escape from the office. I haven't been to the bar there, but it looks like a fun happy hour spot as there's a lot of space in the bar area and comfortable-looking couch seating. This location also has a lot of private dining rooms, so would be a good spot for special events or a big family dinner. read more

Disappointed with the salad bar today. We came on the tail end of brunch and both had the salad bar. On the same bar as the salad dressings was some small desserts.. like tiny brownie bites. My husband was sternly lectured for trying to grab one of those, as he was told "those are on the brunch menu only!". There was no sign distinguishing anything and they were literally right next to the salad dressing, where there is usually bread/rolls (which the menu also states are part of the salad bar). No bread in sight today, soup was separated badly, and service was extremely spotty... We waited 10 minutes for anyone to come to the front and seat us. Also had to flag someone down for silverware. Lots of dirty plates on the salad bar, too. Soda refills were very slow as well. Probably won't be back for a while. read more

Amazing service from Candice, she was extremely friendly, attentive, and gave great recommendations. We got to sit right by the fire, ambiance was perfect! Food was AWESOME. We got the sweet & spicy shrimp appetizer and the drunken sirloin tips and medallion trio for entrees. The Parmesan crust and "bacon butter crust" were unbelievable. We went there last night to celebrate our anniversary. We dined in and had a great experience. My husband had the ribs. They melted off the bone and were delicious. I had a rib eye steak and it was done exactly as I ordered and was also very good! Our waiter, Willow, was outstanding. He brought us our drinks and food quickly. We Wanted to go to a Supper Club while visiting Milwaukee but the reservations were full until late.... We are staying at the Holiday Inn so we decided to try the neighboring/convenient Thunder Bay Restaurant. Didn't expect much but it was a great experience. Awesome outside seating area but we chose inside, the inside was huge and nice. Our waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive. The menu was interesting and diverse although we decided on steaks and not to venture out on any of the interesting sounding dishes on the menu. The steaks were very tasty and cooked to perfection, comparable to or better than most any that I have had elsewhere. After dinner we relaxed outside on a couch by a fire table, what a nice evening! The food was great, the service was great and the drinks were also great and reasonably priced! What more can a happy diner say? read more

On our return trip from Madison, we stopped for lunch, having heard good things about this restaurant. The staff was friendly and attentive. The decor seemed more fitting for a hunting retreat than a sea food restaurant. I tried the fish fry special, When it arrived I thought they forgot to put the fish on the plate, I discovered three 2" X 2" breaded cubes. The breading was flavorful, but the fish was bland and mushy. The fries were luke warm and nothing special. The cole slaw was tasty but the mini roll of bread was dry and stale. My wife ordered the salmon BLT, nice presentation but again the size of the fish could have fit better on a Ritz cracker. The dill sauce was nothing but plain mayo. The fruit side was served with white, un-ripe poor quality watermelon, the other melon was slimy as if it was days old. I've had a better fish dinner served at the Long John Silver drive up window! read more

We visited Thunder Bay Grille on a date night as part of our goal to eat at every restaurant in Waukesha at some point or another. Our experience at first was a little bit cautionary as things seemed slow but our waitress appeared to be the anomaly. Other servers (and our bus-person) were actually quick and on the ball and service seems to be spot-on. Our food, though, was where the meal really took off. From the incredibly fresh lemonade to the absolutely amazing biscuits before the meal, we knew we were in for something special. My wife had the Drunken Steak which she enjoyed quite a bit. The sauce helped keep the meat nice and tender and flavorful while complimenting the cut of meat and still setting it apart from other steaks. The mashed potatoes she got as a side were CLEARLY made fresh and were absolutely delicious. My Bison Burger was absolutely fantastic. Having had burgers almost everywhere, I have to use the phrase 'culinary epiphany.' It was absolutely 100% delicious. Even the bun and the fries had the utmost care shown to them and were wonderful team players often overlooked by other restaurants. For dessert my wife had the berry parfait since she's a fan of mascarpone cheese. The fruit that was on top was very fresh and sweet and the parfait itself was light and sweet with just a hint of tang that sealed the deal. The Java Mocha cake was an oasis in a world of dry, uninteresting cake. It was moist and flavorful and the Kahlua liquer used in the icing really helped make it even more over-the-top delicious. If you're a fan of coffee-flavored desserts, I recommend it. All in all, Thunder Bay Restaurant was fantastic and we look forward to going back. read more

This was one of our favorite spots for brunch. Price seemed to keep rising, but the quality of the food was definitely above average, so didn't mind paying a bit more. Went there about a year ago and had an unbelievable meal. Most of the main entrees were cold. I have to admit I have a sweet tooth and loved their elegant bars for dessert; was nice they were cut small as you could try different things. That day absolutely NO homemade desserts of any kind. I stood there and stared in disbelief at the mini-donuts (NOT homemade) and cookies; that pretty much covered the assortment! My husband commented that the Mobil Station at the corner probably sold better donuts!! Wanted a waffle; never available. Waitress was pathetic, asked for a coffee refill and after asking twice, she did apologize for forgetting the first time. I finally asked her if they weren't making any more waffles. She replied they would be "right out". About ten minutes later they refilled it with 2 waffles, CUT IN HALF. Others lined up to get them so at that point we just paid the bill and left. Never intend to go back. Many people we have told about this experience have told me I should put this on YELP, so am finally doing it. Sad this place has gone downhill so bad. Decided to try this place based on Yelp reviews. Lovely decor and friendly staff. Unfortunately, we had to send our pitcher of sangria back as it was watery, overflowing ice and very, very tart! Decided to try the Zen instead. Whew! Full grain alcohol! Tough ribs, steak ordered rare and delivered well done. The coconut shrimp skewers were fantastic! It's our first visit to Pewaukee. What a surprise this place is. Who would have thought there is night life and tapas in Pewaukee? The menu is diverse. You can go fancy and expensive or simple and cheaper. Whatever choice you make, the food is fantastic. When you enter it looks like a metro night club/high end bar. Happy hour anybody? The dining room is fancy with ceiling to floor windows overlooking a pond. The tapas are very simple but so delicious. The guacamole and sliders are among my favorites. Hadn't been for a few years but decided to give it a shot for a quick bite. Have to say they have really stepped up their game! The decor has always been cool but it was beautifully decorated for the winter season. We had the steak skewer appetizer with bourbon seasoning and it was delicious. I had the steak and goat cheese flatbread which was awesome and a perfect size for an entrée flatbread, and my boyfriend had their version of a juicy Lucy cheeseburger and it was amazing. As a hotel restaurant, Thunder Bay makes a pretty darn a-ok lunch. They have a wide array of options on their menu from soup, sandwiches, salads, shared plates and a large salad buffet if you're into that. The decor is rustic/cabin-y which was done well. However, I was kind of disappointed in my meal that I had for lunch today, I ordered the southwest salad, but the lettuce was nothing more than overly shredded ice burg lettuce with some black beans, corn and salsa. Kind of a bummer, but the service was great. I'd return in the future, but would maybe would try dinner. read more

This is a great place to treat yourself to a really nice, yet affordable, meal. We went here a year ago as our brunch after my wedding, and the brunch was very decadent and fulfilling with everything you would want at a buffet brunch. Recently, we came for a birthday celebration, and I tried their Bouillabaisse, and the flavors were rich and delightful. The seafood was abundant, too, which made the price very reasonable compared to other places and this dish. My niece had the chicken alfredo, and she loved it (13 year old). Also, I'm a sucker for a great salad bar, and theirs, which included soup, was everything I would have wanted (including a delicious homemade dressing). We read all the reviews and had a recommendation from my Mother in law that this was a great place to stop for lunch. Wrong. Our server didn't tell us our children's meal included soda or juice, they had water. I ordered a Bloody Mary which was warm and short on the Vodka. Also they used a tomato as a garnish??? The food was less than great. Chicken strips were obviously frozen and reheated, jambalaya was also tasteless and nowhere near a Louisiana classic. My wife ordered the shrimp and got 6 medium sized shrimp which were also obviously frozen and reheated. My sons hotdog was tasty as were the French fries. If you like Chili's, or any other chain Restraunt, go there instead. read more

Great place - killer salad bar, sushi & shrimp taco super!

I've eaten dinner here on a few occasions and it was always fairly good. But I went to brunch this Sunday and it was pretty decent for the price as well. Between two of us we tasted most things there. A quick run down: Waffles & French Toast - not very warm, but tons of toppings. Peaches, blueberries, strawberries, cherries, whipped cream, walnuts, and their infamous cinnamon butter. Miscellaneous pastries, but they had a blueberry bread that melted in my mouth, I added the cinnamon butter on top. The cinnamon doughnut holes were great as well. Salad bar - as to be expected. Pretty good as far as salads bar go. They have this option available all of the time. Beef Strogonoff - the meat was a little chewy but had good flavor overall Biscuits & gravy - probably the worst thing I tried. The gravy was flavorless and the biscuits were hard. Don't waste your stomach space. Bison meatball - HUGE. And pretty good. Kind of random. Steak tips and mashed potatoes - Decent but wouldn't get again Cheesy potatoes - I cut up bacon and added it to them making them excellent Desserts - a good selection of small bites, my favorite was the peanut butter chocolate covered rice krispie treats. *they also had made to order omelets, sliced ham, sweet potatoes, fiesta eggs, chicken, bbq pork tenderloin - all of which we didn't try. The standout however was the Bloody Mary (not included in the price of the buffet). It had house infused garden veggie vodka and what I believe was a homemade mix. It was a tiny bit spicy but not overwhelming and extremely flavorful. It came with a green olive, tomato and SPICY pickle. The area this place fails is service, we have had experiences here from being forgotten, indifferent to down right rude! Host put us in a two-table private dining room when there was plenty of open other tables available. It was an intimate dining experience...with complete strangers from the table next to us. Not to mention this room was in a high traffic area so we had servers and other restaurant guests walking by making both my wife and I very uncomfortable. My wife got the drunken tips and she liked her meal. I got the fish fry and it was horrible. Three tiny pieces of awkwardly flavored fish. The fish had no taste and the breading had too much taste if you will. I could only taste breading and not fish. Living in Wisconsin my whole life I expect certain things from a Friday Fish Fry and Thunder Bay Grille did not meet my expectations at all. I ordered a "tall" tap beer. It was served in a large water glass, not any particular beer type glass. I can overlook bad food and service. I can't overlook the fact that my credit card information was stolen after I used it at Thunder Bay Grille. Thankfully my credit card holder did not hold me accountable for the transactions. I know where I use my credit card and where I don't. I am confident my information was stolen because of my use of the credit card at Thunder Bay Grille. If you want to try the restaurant, you may get decent food. My wife enjoyed her meal, I did not. I would use cash to pay the bill. read more

So disappointed. We used to go here all the time after work, and it was great so I talked my husband on going at 6 on a Saturday. It was not terribly crowded, we were seated right away and our server was there shortly. We said we were going to do a tapas (like 4-5 appetizers to share) and he recommended the seafood fondue(the most expensive). We did order that and 2 drinks right away- from there it was over 15-20 minutes before we received our drinks (again, it was not busy) and appetizers came moments before the drinks. His pomegranate Mule was good, but the sangria was harsh and a bit rough -- very harsh -- alcohol overbearing. Two of the chips with the 4 that came with the crab/avocado tower were stale, and the fondue was nothing to write home about-- in all this time the server never returned to check on us or ask if we wanted anything else or our main meal- at the point he finally checked on us and asked if we wanted anything we said no, he said to call if we wanted more bread...but we never saw him again, even when we sat at the end of our chairs asking for the check. The food was so-so, but the lack of engagement or attention from the server was the bigger issue. I have never tipped under 15% before...typically i am 20-40% even on our worst--but mediocre food, VERY delayed drinks and missing server put me to a new low. read more
