Server was great nice and charming. We order the 4 cheese stuffed mushroom appetizer. 4 mushrooms came out quickly but when we bit into them the mushrooms were frozen. For the price we paid $12 for four mushrooms I thought the mushrooms would be fresh. My wife had the bouillabaisse and she enjoyed very much. I had Cajun shrimp chicken pasta. We went for the Easter buffet and it was a disaster. It was very crowded and the had the buffet right in the center so it was crowded with people getting food but also just walking through. Half the food was out each time you went up. They just could not keep up. The food that was there was mediocre. They also kept running out if dishware. I was very pleased to have my small Wedding Reception here! The staff here at Thunder Bay was terrific! The food was great and many of us loved the salad bar. My Wedding group of about 20 people were set up in an area by the fireplace where we could eat, enjoy and get many Wedding Photos with the fireplace as a background. Not many places deserve a 5 in my book if anything is wrong - Thunder Bay is huge - many different rooms - good music playing and a full bar. We've had meals, including dinners, lunches and brunch. A little higher priced than some, but they have a full salad bar included with most meals, make good drinks, have great service - we had Tay who was a spicy, fun and brash in a good way - but the rolls at salad bar were not fresh so they brought fresh from the oven rolls over - so they saved themselves there and the fish fry was not hot and not that good. Suggestion: contact The Station on Duplainville Rd and ask Jason for his recipe for fish (they do several kinds) and potato pancakes and you'll ramp up your Friday business. I think he'd help you for a fee because you should do so and he can teach your cooks, chef how to make the BEST fish fry (they have a two hour wait if you go on a Friday SRO). read more

This review is 3.5 stars. I've been here a few times in the past. I've always had a decent experience. Last night I met up with a friend in town on business. Thunder Bay draws locals and visitors from the neighboring hotels, so the atmosphere tends to change. Last night, there wasn't much of an atmosphere. The games were on the TV's but the guests in the bar area were barely socializing. I ordered a Bourbon Maple Mash cocktail and my friend ordered a glass of Cabernet. I didn't pick up any of the maple syrup flavor, but the drink was alright for $7. Her glass of wine had a foamy coating. The server noticed it too and replaced it. It was fine at first, but then the foam appeared again. It took a while to find a server, but we eventually did and they replaced with a different wine at my friend's request. They also comp'd the replacement (2nd replacement at this point). We split a Pesto Chicken Flatbread and Duck Meatball Sliders. The ground duck meatballs had a good flavor and texture, and the cranberry mustard and caramelized onion jam added great layers of flavor. The house made chips were crispy but bland as hell. They shouldn't be afraid to salt their chips. The flatbread was crispy and the flavors were solid. The diced chicken was on the dry side, but there was enough pesto to counter. The diced yellow squash and zucchini, red onions, mushrooms, red peppers, mozz, and asiago rounded this out into a nice dish. After Anna took over our table, she was attentive and took great care of us, so service started a little rocky but ended strong. Food was solid, but drinks disappointed a bit. it Definitely has the feel of dinner by the bay. We are black women that were visting hotel near by and when we were seated no one came to to serve us for at least 30 mins. Finally, someone came that is a minority and it wasn't his table his name is willow kind and nice to serve us. We didn't get a drink of water or any acknowledgement of being there until he came. He asked us and we said no we have not been served. I asked him what made him come over to us and he said he had notice that we were just sitting for some time (mind you this was not his serving area). Thankful he sis serve us and was sis so with grace. Still no one came over to apologize for not sending a server to us and yes! I'm pulling the black card I know it was because we were black. Last Sunday, February 6, 2022 a group of 11 of us went to brunch here. To say the least it was very disappointing. The waiter was not very good and did seem to know how to serve people. When asked for simple things like Ketchup he replied I don't think we have that. Really what restaurant does not have Ketchup? We used to go to Thunder Bay brunch a lot up until a few years ago when the service and food became poor. Back then the brunch included specialty coffees and was included and the service was much better. Most of the hot food was cold especially the ribs. The prime rib was bland tasting. For the price we did not find that the food and service was worth the cost and do not intend on returning any time soon which sad because this used to be such a premier restaurant. read more

We had a big party reservation for 6pm. Was placed in a private room. The one star is for politenesses from the waiter but! Let's just say it took about 45 min for us to get just drinks ordered ... I asked if there were any more prime ribs left and the waiter said "oh yes". When she came back with drinks... she left to go take another tables order... then came back to take our order.... Took all of our order... and then came back at like 8 pm to tell us that as she was putting in our order they called an 86 on primes meaning they are now out of primes ... at 8 pm when we were seated at 6 pm.... We got our food at like 8:45 pm... and our food was cold... my $40 filet mignon was not medium rare like ordered... and it was super dry. The warmest food we're my daughters fries in which she said take was going to bring it back with the second round of drinks.... And it did not come The table outside our private room had two groups come and leave before we even got our meals. Great lemonade and good cheese curds. Nice outside seating during summer. Also had the side salad and drunken steak with a work party one night. Wasn't great, even though I think it was cooked properly. The flavor profile just didn't seem like it was the right fit for me. Several people in the group said they didn't care for it either. Kudos to the restaurant for taking a party of 25, though. Some miscommunication between the different servers, but groups never make it easy, so I don't hold it against them at all. I hosted a party at Thunder Bay for about 30 people. The communication started out great once deciding on the date, location etc. Once I signed the agreement is when the communication went downhill. I was told that the day of the party that Laura Michel who I was working with would be on site and taking care of the group however that never happened, she also wouldn't reply via email until easily 4-5days had passed. I did leave several messages after not hearing from her however those calls were never returned from her. We had 2 waitress's who tried their best with our large group but they did apologize that they also had to waitress tables in the main restaurant. We had SO MUCH food leftover that it was obvious they ordered/cooked way to much and it ended up going to waste. For our size there was at least 50 chicken breast plus enough prime rib for everyone to have 4 servings. This doesn't include the excessive amount of vegetables and potatoes along with the soup and salad ahead of time. The room where the food was served was incredibly warm and there was no aujus for the prime rib. I also had appetizers for ahead of time however they were kept in the room off to the side so the guest's didn't know about it until afterwards. I dropped off cake ahead of time to be kept in the cooler. I'm not sure what time they pulled the cake out but it was kept in the room with the hot food's so the frosting ended up melting and the cake sunk on the sides which was incredibly disappointing. A solid 3. It was fine. We had a group of 14 and reserved the Trout room. Service was decent, food was ok, the room was kind of loud. Probably not my first choice, but there were limited options for us. We'd selected a private room because my 85 yr. old father can't hear very well. The acoustics were terrible and probably no different than a main dining room. Nothing on the walls, not even pictures/artwork. Our waitress was attentive and prompt. Other servers helped bring out the food and most everyone got their meal at the same time. Appetizers came out well before the main meal (which at some restaurants isn't the case) and they were pretty tasty, especially the fried green beans. Not the healthiest choice, but at least there was veggie somewhere in all that breading. Most of us got fish or steak. Everyone was ok with their meal. Went here for Sunday brunch today! Awesome as expected. They had a wide array of food... BBQ ribs, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, biscuits and gravy, etc. The dessert table and salad bar were phenomenal..Definitely worth the trip. Three Words: Fish Fry Friday's! I'm all about traditions, and this happens to be one in Wisconsin. Each time we visit, we tend to take part in this particular one, which is always a good time. Since we were staying in a different part of the city, we opted to try this popular joint for our fish fry needs. We are not disappointed. Here's why: ++ The restaurant is large in size and features a spacious bar, dining room and private dining areas, perfect for any size party! We were seated in a back room for our party of 5 and were so comfortable! ++ Staff is professional, helpful and prompt. Our waitress was quick to head to our table, take our drink order, and inform us of the specials for the evening. She returned often, was helpful in providing us boxes for leftovers and ensured we were happy! ++ Food is outstanding. We all opted for the fish fry special - which was all-you-can-eat, with the option of fried, beer battered or baked cod with a side of your choice. I decided on the baked potato, which was large in size and absolutely delicious! The cod, was my favorite part, as it was perfectly breaded, golden fried and juicy! I hate fish that tastes fishy, which this was not, so I happily devoured portion. ++ Speaking of which - portions are HUGE! On my plate were 4 large pieces of cod, which were the size of my fist. Along with the baked potato, access to the unlimited salad bar (which is more than just salad, but features pastas and more!) I was stuffed to the gills - literally - and happily took the remainders home! The only negative of this place is the price tag, as each fishy fry special was $25 a pop. We had a 1 pm reservation. Sat us at 1:30. Three dishes they were out of. No salmon as advertised. No soups. Service ok. Hard to get the server to bring drinks. Gave drinks in tiny cups. Claim they had no glasses. So not getting what you paid for. Wife really wanted salmon and that was the main reason we went here because they advertised it. Complained and they said sorry. Nothing we can do. Only brought out a small piece of prime rib every hour. Deserts table was always empty until they brought out small slivers of frozen kringle. Food quality very poor. read more

Mom was going to be out of town for Mother's Day so we decided on an early celebration with lunch here - out of way for the whole family, I'm not entirely sure why my brother suggested it... Regardless, the north woods-themed restaurant was huge - a large bar and plenty of seating to go around. Quite a few families were there but service didn't suffer one bit; between that and the atmosphere, it's hard to choose which was better. I opted for a dinner-like meal of steak medallions, both with different toppings, and both were smaller than anticipated and I scarfed the whole thing down. By far not the worst meal I've ever had but I can consistently make better steaks on my gas grill at home which meant the price didn't exactly reflect the quality. I was ok with everything but my wife felt sick later and thought it was from the salmon on her salad; not exactly a factor of my score but worth noting regardless. read more

Well I went here for the first time on a Saturday around 7pm. My girlfriend and I were promtly seated and it only took a minute or two before our server came by. This restaurant is MASSIVE and has a ton of rom for banquets and receptions. The food here is pretty pricey, with most entrees STARTING at $13 or so up to about $30 for steak type meals. I ordered the half-rack of ribs and was disappointed. They were very tender, but it was about 60% bones in the end and very little meat for the $16 price tag. It felt more like it was a 1/4 rack tha anything. Also I got the loaded sweet potato, which I didn't notice was $3 more just for them to add marshmallows, cinnamon, and some pecans! My girlfriend had chicken alfredo, which was a very small portion for a pasta dish (considering noodles are basically costless to most restaurants). The chicken also had a very strong and distinct taste, but not really in a good way. Our server was fine and everything was as ordered, but the small portions for the higher price compared to other local restaurants really turned me off to this place. I took a friend for a nice, late lunch. Thunder Bay Grill was a very poor choice. It was apparent that some of the food on my plate had been served previously. We tried to get assistance for over 10 minutes but no employees entered the dining room. My guest went into the bar and requested our server return to our table. Waited another 10 minutes before a different server brought food to another table. We were able to get her assistance. Assured us they didn't recycle food and offered to replace the suspicious item. I told her I didn't want the meal. The manager had a new meal made and assured me it was an error. Our server reappeared with the bill. Service was awful, food handling is suspicious. read more

Also had a side of gourmet mac n cheese - very good. Others in the table had Ribs and Pork Chop, Salad, and Seafood Dish. Everyone else seemed to like their food. Kids enjoyed thier kids menu selection as well as a free "ticket" to get something out of a treasure box for kids - Nice touch for families.
