This place was great! The atmosphere is lovely, the service was fantastic and the food was amazing. The first night I went there was a Friday night and obviously Georgetown was packed, so my two friends and I put our name in and went to walk around to see if we could get in sooner anywhere else. We ended up back at Thunder Burger and I'm so happy we did. They told us that the wait would be 45 minutes and we ended up getting seated in about 30. The hostess was really nice and pleasant. Then we sat down and got the nicest server. He asked us if we had ever been before and when we said no he told us all about the menu and made some great recommendations. I ended up getting the turkey burger which was absolutely amazing. Really tasty and I'm glad I picked it. We loved it so much that we ended up going the next night too. The staff was undertrained, waitresses were often chatting among themselves at the end of the bar while ignoring customers. Twice we had to grab passing staff to ask them to flag our waitress. The best burger I have had so far was at five napkins in NYC. If you have eaten there and liked it, you will find an equal in thunder burger. The Kobe burger was excellent. Glad I didn't read about the mouse review earlier. The place has a dingy, pub-like feel to it. But the menu has something for everyone. First time I went I had the vegetarian chili which wasn't great (or very hot.) But I went back today and had the grilled chicken burger (yum, w/ melted havarti, giant tomato sprinkled w/ sea salt and onion strings) and my date had the burger w/ blue cheese-cooked to perfection. We stopped in here on a Saturday for a late lunch. Yes, the menu is mainly burgers (duh) but they were delicious--we had the Thunder Burger, which has lots of free toppings to choose from (loved the grilled peppers and jalapenos). Perfectly cooked and awesome buns, too. The staff was really helpful and the beer list had great variety--we loved the IPA that the manager recommended when the one we wanted was out. We also liked both the sweet potato and regular fries, though not too wild about the "ginger mayo" that came with the SP ones...went with ketchup instead. I went to DC today and was in the mood for a hamburger. I decided to try the Thunder burger since my friends recommended it. The burgers were juicy. Service was excellent. Our waitress was very patient with all the kids . The manager was very welcoming. I don't understand the other reviews and the fuss but some people are just unable to be satisfied. Family dinner - it was very good. Great service, and great food. The grass-fed beef and buffalo burgers are top notch. The nachos and chili were also very good. They also have a good selection of beers (great IPAs). We will be going back and going back, etc. The price was very reasonable based on the quality of food and service. Freddie, a manager, is very polite, yet relaxed, very thoughtful and just a nice person. Ash is a great waiter who has a very upbeat and enthusiastic attitude. Sometimes, the attitude of your waiter can make your food "taste" better, and Ash does just that. After wondering around Georgetown not really knowing where to grab a bite for lunch, our group opted on a whim to try this place. I was very pleasantly surprised. I ordered a salad (the Thunder salad) and it was absolutely delicious! On the recommendation of the waiter I had a. Bloody Mary & it was delicious as well, so good in fact I had a 2nd!! MOUSE! M-O-U-S-E! My husband and I had a mouse crawling up the brick wall about 6 inches from our table. This was the grand finale to a horrible experience. No air conditioner, sticky table, the guy who poured the water got it all over the entire table and "cleaned" it up with a dirty, old rag. I wanted to run the moment we sat down. But, we stayed and waited forever for our appetizers. The fried calamari tasted like old rubber. My husbands Chili Fries took forever to come out. Then we saw something out of the corner of our eyes and it was a mouse on the wall. Where there is one mouse there are hundreds! We immediately left and went home because I could not stop cringing. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I have never eaten at a place I hated so much. Everything was awful. Sat down to a dirty table, dirty appetizer plates and when I asked for straws, the waiter handed them to me with a dirty napkin. The fried mushroom appetizer was not crispy, just oily. The $9 wing appetizer came with only 6 wings and when asked for ranch, we got a ranch/blue cheese mixture. Then comes the burgers, which at $18 each should be the best burger of my life, but I couldn't even eat more than 3 bites without feeling like I could get food poisoning...that's how undercooked it was. I was charged extra for caramelized onions that didn't come with the burger like I asked, we had to wait for the server (that ignored my first attempt at getting his attention, that my onions were missing - and by then it was too late. The server was AWFUL and barely spoke to us and barely came to our table. He never asked how anything was and didn't mind that we were clearly unhappy. I went in with 3 friends and my boyfriend on a Sunday night. We were very excited to go in but unfortunately our experience wasn't good at all. When we went inside and everything was normal, we got seated quick and got waters in a timely manner. Then our server Jasmin M. (which i got off our receipt because she never told us her name) came and asked us for our drinks. Once she came with our drinks we were ready to order. She put our food in right away and our food came at an exceptional time. I had ordered the "Show down at the Border" burger Medium Well and my friend ordered the "Pig in Cow Suit" Medium Well too. Both of our burgers came back ALL pink. Medium Well is supposed to have a slight pink in the center but All of it was pink. I had to get up and find my server to let her know that my burger wasn't cooked correctly. She responded with attitude and told us she was going to take it back and send another one. When the other one came out it was brought to us by another server. After that we did not see our server anymore. The burger that came back was still not cooked correctly so I only ate half of my burger and left the other half there. My boyfriend did not eat any of his burger because he wanted to wait for me to get my burger so we can eat together. By the time I got my burger his was already cold so he never even touched his and left it there. We also had to ask other severs for refills and other needs. We then got up and asked for a manager. We told the manager the problem and let her know that we were ready for the check as well. She apologized and took off one burger. Our supposed to be "server" Jasmin came back with the check and again spoke to us with lots of attitude. She walked away and we had to get up and look for her to give her the check. We were not satisfied one bit with the service at Thunder Burger. The whole time we felt like we were not wanted there and a bother. Jasmin M. was not attentive at all, or caring. She also NEVER apologized for the situation. She should not be working with hospitality or customer service because it does not fit her personality at all. Had been here a couple of times previously and it wasn't bad before, but on the last visit the service was so bad that we won't ever be back. Ace, the bartender, was rude and inattentive the whole time. We sat at the bar stool tables but we had to actually ask the hostess "Do we even have a waiter?" which he overheard and eventually came over. When he took our order he was gruff and unpleasant. When the food came out, he finished unpacking boxes behind the bar, while we had to point out to another server that our food was siiting by the bar getting cold. Then he reluctantly started to help the other server but it was too late. He never came to refill our drinks, then when we asked the hostess/manager to bring our check, he gave us a dirty look from behind the bar and shook his head disrespectfully, as if we should have waited for his lazy self to eventually come over. I don't see how a clueless person like that guy even has a job working in a customer-facing position. In fact, most of the staff there looked like they were very miserable and unhappy working there. The female Russian manager on duty was also unpleasant and rude, and when we brought our complaint to her, she didn't even apologize or offer any kind of compensation. They definitely lost one of their customers, since we will never patronize this business again. read more
