Against my better judgment, I went along with my colleagues--we call ourselves the "Lunch Bunch"--to pick up lunch to bring back to the office. Today was "Free Fries Day," which had everyone excited, especially since it meant not having to spend $20 on a sandwich and fries. I ordered the loaded BBQ chicken sandwich with fries. I've visited this Shake Shack so many times since opening. Generally, the food is OK and the customer service consistently is mediocre. Since opening they've transitioned almost exclusively to receiving customer orders via self-serve kiosks, as is how most other Shake Shacks operate in the area and region. However, they still have the capability to take customer orders with their employees. In a way the self-serve kiosk improve customer service as there is minimal contact with staff, however, I've gotten into the habit of ordering food on the mobile app to increase ordering accuracy and minimize employee interaction. This location thrives off of foot traffic from the local nightclubs in Dupont Circle. They easily serve hundreds of customers on Friday and Saturday nights. Consider ordering via the mobile app to reduce wait time which is my recommendation for all Shake Shack locations only because there is so much liberty in being able to pre-order food with the intent of spending minimal time in restaurants. read more

I had no idea this was even here. I had been to this area a few years prior to living here and I do not remember this being part of this intersection. But after roaming the streets for a bit and in need of some food, I decided to stop here. From the outside it looks like a put together place, but when you walk in, you can tell it is a well used location that definitely needs a deep clean. With all the foot traffic in and out and how busy it is in here, all it really needs is a deep clean. I will preface this with I didn't get a burger when I came here. But I did get a full meal. This location uses the self serve kiosks where you have a number. Once you order, you either stand around and wait for it, as for a to go order, or you take that number and just sit at some random table throughout. Then the fun is that you hope that they get your food to you before it gets cold. It's like a game of hide and seek and your prize is your food you ordered. When I did place my order I had to wait a bit as one of the machines were down and the other two were being used by people that weren't very tech savvy. I then took my number and found a table in the back of the place. My food did arrive shortly after it was prepared. I went to the condiments area and grabbed a few things, like extra napkins and of course condiments. Take it from me, pay attention to the items sitting in this area and don't mindlessly grabbed what is in front of you. I ended up with mustard and hot sauce on my hot dog. Not a horrible choice, but definitely not the best choice. The hot sauce packet looks exactly like a ketchup packet. I paired it with the fries with cheese sauce. Was it worth it, not really. The pricing for this is just too much of a novel meal that I definitely could have found elsewhere at a decent price. This place was a mess from the moment I walked in here and I can see why there are doors at the back that make for an easy exit. read more

Very tasty and the cookie crumbles were just the right size to get through the straw. Bit pricy at $6.50 for the small size portion, being one reason for less than full 5/5. Ambiance:. Nicer than it looks from the entry. Music was some rap with some hip hop flair from yesteryear like Earth Wind & Fire. The backroom has a loft and is pretty cool. There were a number of tables back there with street people who had maybe bought a drink and just hanging until they closed. They were quiet but one had what looked like a couple days of trash surrounding him at his feet and he was sleeping wrapped in a blanket. Yes, I'm going there: this is a five star shake shack. While the food is as you would expect it just about any other of their locations, the service with a smile offered by every single staff member brings this place to the top of my shake shack list. By comparison, the store in Hollywood, California, just a few doors down from the Pantages theater, features an entire staff of people who seemingly forgot how to smile. Not here in DC; the young lady that took our order, another lady who brought our food out, and a third individual who just happened to be walking by towards the back... Each of them treated us like we were guests in their home. And as evidence that it was not a fluke, we made two separate orders; one for our burgers and fries, and the second one for our respective chocolate and vanilla shakes. Because, as my dad says in Vegas: "we're not here for a haircut." I don't know the next time I will be in Washington DC, but like so many places that we have visited around our great country, customer service, kindness, and courtesy all seem to be far superior in many locations outside of my native southern California. I suppose we could take a lesson on that to be a little nicer and slow down a little bit. I'm not gonna hold my breath. read more

Oh how the stars have fallen. 57 minutes and counting for a small, simple, in-restaurant order. Place was nearly empty except for the employees who were mostly hanging out at the tables in the back instead of in the kitchen. We escalated to the manager who apologized but didn't offer to make it right. The only positive customer service element was a worker helped my kiddo turn on the water to fill the water cup. I'm definitely a Shack Shack girl and whenever I go, I get two things- the Shake Stack (cheeseburger with a cheese stuffed mushroom) and cheese crinkle cut fries. On our first night in DC, we were super hungry and came across one downtown. Since they also sold beer by the pitcher for a good price (not to mention the yummy frozen custard that was an inevitable purchase), it was a win win on all counts. We both love Shake Shack already, but after hearing about the Hot Ones collab, we had to make a special trip. We got the Hot Ones burger, as well as the new hot cheese fries; both were very good! Neither item was too different than Shake Shack's norm, but that's okay because they have good basics. The real star was the Hot Ones sauce they give you on the burger and on the side for the fries. It's definitely spicy but tastes great! This is also our first time trying the Dupont Circle location, which we heard had good reviews. This is probably our new go-to Shake Shack spot. We did come in before closing so we definitely wasn't expecting some high energy from the staff. We ordered the shroom burger, shack stack and fries! Can't go wrong with either burger. Personally I love the shroom burger. The crisp fried portobello mushroom oozes out with cheese, bun is so delicious, and the lettuce and tomatoes are fresh! The crinkle cut fries are also my favorite. You can also order it with cheese or bacon. The shack stack is a cheeseburger and shroom burger topped with lettuce and tomato. This place is convenient to where I work and they are a pretty decent burger joint. What I like most about this place is the buttery hamburger bun. It's soft, warm and buttery which makes the sandwich very satisfying to my tummy. As an avid french fry lover . . . they are hit or miss on some days. I think it's truly the texture for me. But this has nothing to do with the this store, however the overall choosing of this particular type of french fry. LOL but ketchup or cheese fries won't hurt and they are good when I have to tell myself to enjoy them. They have very good shakes, soda selections and booze if you are in the mood. This establishment is clean but there is always a ton of chatter among the employees when I come here. While I expect chatter from them, it's never about work. Boyfriend and I ordered Shake Stack $10.95, a Chick'n Shak $6.89 and ShackBurger $5.69, Crinkle Cut Fries $2.99, plus a Malted Mocha Cookies & Cream Milkshake $5.99 + $.50 for Malt. The Shake Stack is a very thick piece of deep-fried portobello mushroom topped with a ton of melted cheese and a beef patty topped with cheese. It was really tasty, but kind of expensive.
