This spot rocks! I went here on a whim as someone at the restaurant I was having dinner at mentioned going dancing. So I called the crew and we made our way to meet up out front. Once we got inside, the crowd was here for all the fun and dance of it. My friends and I grabbed a drink and stomped right onto the dance floor with everybody else. I'm not quite sure how to explain the vibe, but it was just 'on one'. Next thing I know we're jumping up and down with the DJ and sweating our assess off. Everybody was so friendly, the bartenders were ready everytime we crawled over, and the music was non stop amazing. I wish I could come here on a regular basis but my poor knees just wouldn't be able to survive the brutality of it all. I can't remember the last time I've been somewhere and the entire crew did not want to leave. Everytime we tried to skip out, the DJ would play an old/new mashup that forced my little dancin' feet right back inside. Do yourself a favor and get yourself on top of this experience. This place is amazing. The club is all vaporwave/80s themed, lots of mirrors and neon and retro arcade vibes. They've been bringing a bunch of cool underground DJs: Satin Jackets, Hot Chip, Sofia Kourtesis, Matthew Dear, Com Truise. Thundercat does all sorts of theme nights: goth, techno, indie dance, yacht rock, karaoke, 80s pop/hip-hop. They also have some really interesting vendors set up shop outside sometimes: food, art, toys and collectibles. Despite the retro look the soundsystem is super high tech and there is a massive LED screen behind the dj with some folks doing live visuals. Cocktails are great and cost as much as anywhere else, though the beer selection could use a little work. Security and staff aren't dicks, which is always nice. Looking forward to the cooler months when I'm sure they'll have djs/art/entertainment outside on the patio. read more

The crowd here was so fun. It's such a small little spot when you pull up but it's an ok size. The outside area is huge. I came because I saw they had old school hip hop but the dj was playing 80's music. Not my music to dance to but we stayed for a bit just because the vibe and energy were so fun. Thursday 80s night. Great location and building, and staff was very nice. We didn't care for every song being mixed together to a disco beat all night. We wished the DJ would have just played the songs as they are, and mixed up the beat and mood more. And no David Bowie, Culture Club, Eurythmics, Flock of Seagulls, Wham, ABC, Bangles, Go Go's, Souxsie and the Banshees, Cindi Lauper, Madonna, Violent Femmes, Cars...? I may just be getting old but it's just way too expensive and uncomfortable here. Covers to see shows and get into them are expensive, drinks are expensive (so many these weird fees) and there's no seating unless you pay for bottle service or are cool sitting outside in 100° weather away from the music. read more

Highly recommend this club. Super fun, unique vibe! You haven't seen anything like it. Props to the creators, fun 80s vibe and great music. And really great prices for drinks. I went to the 80's night on Sat 6/15. Tickets were $15 and the venue said 10 pm-2am. Got there at 11:30 pm. Music selection was just okay. DJ was terrible. Didn't play one song until completion. She was all of 20 years old and had zero clue about 80's music. Crowd was a hodge podge of people with no rhyme or reason and no energy. Bartenders were not the friendliest. At 1 am the dj stops playing, says goodnight and leaves the building. The lights come on and we were all asked to head out. It was rude and abrupt. It was also false advertising because the ticket for the event said 10 pm - 2 am. The last 80's party I went to there in March was amazing. The place was packed with people who dressed up in 80's attire. You could feel the energy. The dj was mixing 80's alternative and pop all night until 2 am and the dancefloor was crowded all night. Bartenders however, were not friendly. read more

I'd been wanting to check out this venue since it opened; I finally did the afternoon of 6/2/24 for a special event. The patio is as big as inside, and is probably great when it's not summer (or at least at night), but with the tables situated in the afternoon sun and umbrellas that didn't provide adequate shade, being outside was uncomfortable. Since TCL is usually only open in the evening, they probably can't be faulted for not having adequate outdoor daytime shade measures; however, if they were to do addt'l daytime events, it'd be great if they added sails and misters and reconfigured seating to take advantage of any shade. The inside, with its retro styling (including a mirrored ceiling; Nagel, the artist that did the cover of Duran Duran's Rio album, prints on the walls; and neon lighting) was fresh. The lights, sound system, and visuals on the screen behind the DJ platform were rad. Staff and patrons were friendly. My only real shock and disappointment was when I got the receipt for the drinks I purchased. The prices themselves were comparable to other bars throughout Central and downtown PHX, but there was also a $1 "admin fee" and 20% gratuity included. No bueno. Perhaps these addt'l charges were because it was a special event, but they were still unwelcome. If the event necessitated charging extra to cover overhead costs, at the least there could've been a placard at the bar stating that transactions would include an admin fee (and maybe its purpose) and that gratuity would be include and at what rate. Even better would've been to roll those charges into the cover charge or into the drink prices, rather than have itemized charges. Transparency is paramount to good business practice and retaining customers, and I feel TCL failed in this regard for this event. Overall, I'm glad I went; I'd return for another (nighttime) event. I hope they stay open for a while because it really is a unique space. I'd also like an opp to revise my rating based on further (hopefully positive) experience with the business. Concept: 5/5 stars...special props to the huge Connect 4 game on the patio; Drink prices: 4 stars; Addt'l fees: 1-star. Average 3 stars. read more

Like what many other people are saying in their reviews, whenever this place has a throwback themed night, like 80's night, 70's disco night, or the themed event I went to: "Diana Ross vs. Donna Summer event", the DJ they select is just too young to know and understand these "Throwback Decade's" nights. I drove 4 hours to get to this place, because I was so excited that finally a place I could go to, to listen to 70's / 80's music and escape the rap/hip-hop music, that has sadly, taken over the world as we know it. Anyhow, during the Diana Ross vs. Donna Summer event, I arrived at about 11pm. When I was walking toward the building I could hear "Can't Get You Out of my Head" by Kylie Minogue playing. And I knew in that moment, it wasn't going to be the Diana Ross vs. Donna Summer music, as they advertised. The DJ played only 1 Diana Ross song THE ENTIRE TIME which was "The Boss" The DJ played only 4 Donna Summer songs: "On The Radio" "Hot Stuff" (and sadly DID NOT transition into "Bad Girls" song, after this song ended) "This Time I Know It's For Real" "Macarthur Park" The rest of the night was a little bit of 80's, wider selection of 90's, and then majority was 00's mixed with instrumental techno/house beats with no vocals in them, just weird beats. I looked up at the DJ, he looked to be 19 or 20 at the most. He had on high heel boots. It made sense to me then why he laid heavily on 00's music, it's what he knows. He doesn't know 70's / 80's music, so he fell back on what he knows. Major disappointment. Diana Ross and Donna Summer just have too much in their catalog to not play their songs. And keep in mind, the theme event of this night was: "Diana Ross vs. Donna Summer". So it's just so sad that this DJ only played a total of 5 of their songs combined between 11am to 1am. By 12:15AM, folks had enough and just started leaving. 1AM it was maybe 3 to 4 folks left, and they cut it off at 1AM read more

We came for the first time, so excited for a 70"s - 80" club. It was good for about one hour, and then the house music never stoped. I felt like I heard the same song for about 3 hours in a row. It was so disappointing. DJs lost the attention of crowd. Super disappointing. I guess we'll try it one more time with a different DJ. read more

Was super excited for this to open. Some of the events are really cool while others aren't, none the less the novelty is neat HOWEVER the drink prices are absolutely INSANE $20 for a TINY drink that after they load the cup with ice is about a shot, stadium prices and not even full size drinks. I asked how much a well vodka soda was and I was told $17 I hope the young EDM kids you are giving residents too have friends that will spend that kind of money because I won't. If you're not making money on liquor sales once the novelty wears off I don't see it being that successful. Not to mention I feel like I was overcharged and after talking with some of the other people that might they stated they felt the were as well. Thundercats had their grand opening on Friday, January 12, 2024, and it was amazing! I took my fiance and we had a great time. The music was outstanding! The owners and the staff were very friendly and customer-oriented. In particular, I would like to give Jeremiah J. Gratza a shout out for his hospitality! I initially saw the co-owner, Jeremiah J. Went for Safety Dance and we were the only people there besides the employees. We were asked at the door if we had VIP tickets (or something to that effect). We didn't so we were charged a $6 cover. We walked into an empty room with the most unfriendly bartender. I would think she would be happy to have 2 paying customers, but she was not. We had a couple crappy overpriced drinks and left. BTW the music choices were not what you would expect at a dance club. Something upbeat would help. Place was DEPRESSING AF. read more
