This is my first time visiting Dr. Thurman's office.My golden had puppies 4 weeks ago and developed mastitis. I thought it was that but wanted to know for sure it was that and of course treat my pet so she can get better. During this Covid situation they have you wait in your car while they take your dog in and the vet techs or assistants come out and let you know what's going on etc. First off I was very happy with the amazing customer service and for answering my questions. Second off pricing was reasonable/affordable. I just found my new Vet for my babies and will be letting my family know as well. read more

I really recommend! Also thank you so much Dr.Thurman! My dog Coco had VERY bad teeth. We rescued her from the SPCA pound. She had gum stains, yellowish blackish stuff on her teeth, and couldn't eat as well. She chewed on her molar. I saw her in such pain as she ate. So we made an appointment for her. We brought her to it and the results were outstanding! Her teeth are so white and she can eat like a normal dog now. She had to get one molar removed but very worth it! I dumped my old Vet on Allen Rd because their service is just horrible now. I decided to give Dr. Thurman's office a try from looking at the Yelp reviews. The first few times we came for vaccinations and checkups and everything was great. What really set this office apart for me was the hoops they will jump through for you and your pet family just to make your life easier. For example, very recently the wife and I learned we will be moving to Hawaii. Well Hawaii has some very strict rabies requirements as well as paperwork, wait times and crazy stuff you have to do first. We had to make sure both our dogs had working microchips as well as have their blood taken and sent to a lab in Kansas somewhere to be tested for trace amounts of rabies. Hawaii requires this as well as a stack of needless paperwork to be submitted. Cindy (secretary) and Dr. Thurman took care of everything for us and every piece of paperwork was completed accurately and timely (I checked). They aren't the cheapest Vet services in the world but they do everything professionally and the right way. read more

It had come to the time when our sweet puppy of seventeen years was ready to go. Even though it was a busy Monday, everyone there was gentle with us. Dr Thurman was comforting and reassuring. What was a very sad day was made manageable. We are grateful. read more

The staff here are A M A Z I N G!!!! My dog is very timid and shy with strangers but she had no problem with the staff. She ended up having surgery for cherry eye and I cannot praise the facility and employees enough. I trust my dog's care to them, and I am a very concerned and anxious dog owner. Very clean facility and nice staff! I brought my Ragdoll kitten in for his vaccination shot, and they loved on him and were so gentle! He was very comfortable with the clean room and staff. He's a lover though . He didn't even make a noise when he received his shot! Very gentle hands on that made him comfortable during the process. They respected all my wishes regarding his care and shot concerns. I would recommend them for anyone looking for a very clean, fresh and friendly veterinarian office. read more

Im giving only a 3 star review and hope to edit it once Thurman figures our their issues and can be a public business that allows ALL of the public to use their service. Called today to setup an appt. to have my bulldog seen, and was told they are not accepting new clients. I get that they want to serve their current client base and provide great customer service, but you cannot tell me that their current client base visits the vet with such regularity that they take up all of the appts. My guess is that there are days that they would be able to accommodate new clients, or could bring in another vet on specific days to help build clientele. I have since went to Rosedale Vet Hospital and HIGHLY recommend them and will NEVER be the one to chase a company down to spend my money. Im sure Thurman will respond, but I would suggest holding the response until it includes something to the effect of, "We are now accepting new clients!" Cheers! read more

We've taken our 2 pets here for years, always great service. A few days ago we took in a stray cat that was hanging around the house. We took her to a vet that was around the corner for a check up since it was 4:30 on a friday. They gave her some shots and said everything was good. We noticed her limping Saturday night and her energy level was much lower. We went to an emergency vet Sunday. They thought it was a reaction to the shots. She was no better by tuesday so we took her to Thurman. He listened to the whole story and found the problem had nothing to do with shots or her leg. Following his advice she was much better by the next day. Great vet! Highly recommended! read more

Hands down, EXCELLENT SERVICE! My Maltese-Shihtzu was diagnosed with a rectal polyp at the emergency vet, and the doctor told us my dog would need surgery, but he wasn't sure if it could be done in Bakersfield. I shared with a friend my concerns and she immediately referred me to Dr. Thurman. The appointment set-up was quick & as soon as Dr. Jackie confirmed it was a polyp, she let us know our options and said that surgery could be done here in Bakersfield as an outpatient surgery. I opted out of sending the polyp for biopsy, but Dr. Thurman's assistant called me and asked that I reconsider because he was concerned about what he saw. Of course I said yes! After surgery was done, Dr. Thurman called me personally and said that the polyp showed precancerous cells, but it was benign. So far, Panda (my dog) is doing well & I'm just so happy everything went smoothly, especially with what's going on with the COVID-19 pandemic. Love this Vets Office. They take great care of our English Bulldog and Maltipoo. However, they are expensive

I had brought my dog in for fears she had parvo. Turns out she did, but luckily she's beat it and is back to normal! I didn't have to make an appointment, I was able to call in early and come in the same day which was super convenient. The staff is very friendly, the office is super clean. I was there for quite a while but that wasn't too much of an issue for me. I did think it was odd that I didn't meet the actual vet, there was another lady who was super helpful and nice that was communicating back and forth. I'm not sure if it was because of the potential spread of parvo? I was not able to afford the full treatment for the parvo but they were able to work with my situation and help me out. I have found a new vet for both my dogs! read more

I could not be more pleased with the services provided by Thurman and his staff! My Great Dane was experiencing some problems and we went to our regular vet and then another for a second opinion and didn't really get answers. I've been to two different vets before Thurman and they don't even compare to how great Thurman is. I have a german shepard mix who isn't very socialized, so he can be aggressive out of fear. The staff and dr. were very friendly and understanding of my situation. They took the time to make sure my dog was a little more comfortable before taking him back to get his shots. It's a far drive for me, but totally worth it. I'm definitely sticking with Thurman as our primary vet. read more

Dr Thurman has been my MILs veterinarian for years before she had to leave Bakersfield. When my husband and I adopted dogs of our own we took her suggestion and used Dr. Thurman for our primary veterinarian. I have never had any negative issues with him. He seems genuinely interested in how my dogs are doing. He will get on the floor and pet and play with them to be able to get a better physical exam done (my boys are 100+ pounds and can get very excited with people). He prescribed medications I thought appropriate and didn't try to up-sell unnecessary treatments, or recommend treatments for issues he didn't see as being a problem quite yet. He even told me ways to upkeep their care that were cheaper than the medications they would receive from his office. His staff are very nice and the office is decorated in such a way that my doggies acted like they were visiting a friends house instead of a clinical setting. I believe he got his veterinary degree from Texas A&M and my family and I recommend Dr Thurman. read more

I love this clinic. They do so well. They are right on point in minimizing contact through this hard time. I have adopted several rescue pets recently and I have received a lot of support through ringworm, pin worms, giardia, fleas, ticks, demodectic mange. I never felt judged bringing in my poor little rescues and they took utmost care keeping all fur babies safe (even mopping the floors directly behind my pets to keep contagion at a minimum). A bad experience with an "affordable vet" service led me to seek out a new vet: Dr Thurman--close to the house, great reviews online, picture in the paper each week with all those cute dogs.............who knew? Beware!! After my senior pooch had a simple procedure done, she developed issues. My discharge instructions were all but none on the day of her surgery! We left that day with the instruction paperwork stuffed in a little plastic bag, along with the meds. It was hurry up and pay, and GET OUT. (His RECEPTIONIST is extremely RUDE and conveys her impatience with his customers very clearly: DO NOT BOTHER ME,OR CAUSE ME TO EXPEND ANY ENERGY WHATSOEVER .) Home we go to muddle through. After stitches came out, (paw bloodied once more, dog re-traumatized and totally freaked out), my pooch stops eating. Mama is worried. We're on Day 4 now of her starvation diet. I called this morning, and again, got the RUDE RECEPTIONIST on the phone. I asked if there might be something other than the prescribed Rx we could use which seemed to be blunting her appetite. (Adverse Reaction listed on Pharmaceutical printout included in the box.) She did not wish to disturb her ZEN and get up to ask the Dr. the simple question I had called about until I insisted. With a snort of disdain, she managed to extricate herself from the sitting position she so loves. She came back on the phone with a organic alternative which has not been proven to work in all of the literature and studies done, other than to make you think you're getting better. This was the answer. Another product to buy from that office. I pressed her to ask the Dr. again for a medication which could be used to control my little dog's arthritis pain as maintenance. She really was RUDE this time but I held my ground. (I had made her "rise to the occasion" twice now.) This time, the Dr came to the phone, and again listed several "PRODUCTS I COULD BUY IN HIS OFFICE" but no advise on a maintenance pain med for her. Gee thanks. My advice: Good luck for the brave at heart. Hope your wallet is full. Seems that's the focus here. Not the welfare of the dog. My search for a good vet continues. Had my dogs with him with no issues until one day my little chi was ill and I went to make an appointment and the receptionist said Dr. Thurman said there was nothing more he could do but to euthanize her. I explained she had a respirtory infection she refused to make me an appointment. I went to another local vet. After blood work up confirmed respirtory infection was put on meds and over a year later at age 15 still doing well. I wrote a concerned letter to him saying what happened and how disappointed I was he wouldn't even see her and do tests. No response. I think the nut case receptionist intercepted his letter. Too bad for him. I'm involved in rescues and have several pets. Would not send my worse enemy there. read more

Loved it here! Affordable, quick, and not a long wait. Dr. Thurman was very friendly and took his time to answer all of my questions. He was approachable and thorough. The place is clean and seems very well run. I used my new patient 10% off yelp discount and it was only 100 bucks for a checkup, two vaccines, and a toenail trim. I decided to bring my dogs here for the first time on 2/15/13. They were in need of a dental cleaning and it was only $99 here. I had paid over $200 at Coffee Rd Vet for just one of the dogs to get their teeth clean. I really am not impressed by other vets in town. My only complaint is that they don't carry Trifexis, so I'll have to keep getting that from the Banfield vet at Petsmart. They also wouldn't provide a prescription for Hill's Diet Prescription Food because they don't carry it themselves. They tried to sell me other dental products by another company. I'm sure they get a kick back from them and didn't like that they only push the one brand, but I like that this office is way closer to my home and all I found were good reviews for this place and the Vet. read more
