@FenwayMaligator ready for his first checkup and exam enjoying the AC before his 1:30PM appointment

I've heard a lot of great things about this place for probably close to 7 years or more. However I was never able to get my dogs in here because they were usually full with customer capacity. End of 2025 I got a new puppy and still after calling in November they were still not taking new patients. Out of the blue a friend that goes here said back in April they were taking new patients and I couldn't even let him finish before I jumped on the phone right there and then and found it was true and finally got my puppy Fenway scheduled for his first checkup. I came in today for the first time and was completely blown away to the service and care you receive here. This isn't your every day GP type doctors office you typically see or find with a "Veterinarian" ; Thurman truly built every step, every part of the design to animals as the true patients and not the owners. It actually quite impressed me as the first initial impression. We were taken to a room where I swear you could bring a horse inside and still have plenty of room to move around and sit along the benches. It truly blew me away. It was literally every detail to this place from top to bottom and everything in between. Then came the care. The love and care my puppy Fenway received was above and beyond I have seen from any Veterinarian office in my past with all my dogs. Fenway had Julie Mischke today and she throughly did an examination and his last vaccination shot without an even flinch or movement of worry from Fenway....which by the way is a Maligator aka Melonwall I mean Malinois lol. He was completely chill and at ease here from the very start and with all the people working here. The entire staff from front to back was absolutely great and amazing and above and beyond. I could not be more happier with a place than this place right here. I can see why this place can get almost near impossible to get in with the way they do business here. Above a 5 star rating here and look forward to coming back soon for his next checkup. Thank you Thurman Veterinary staff!!! You are @FenwayMaligator approved

My Dog is sick but the office wants to go home!

Waited on hold hold for 30 minute was next in the queue the automated dialer stated no one to answer the phone because you probably going to Lunch - Will never call or go to this office!

We have taken our dog Trigger to Thurman Vet for about 4 years now and the service is always excellent. We have seen all the vets in the practice and each and every one truly cares about our dog! They speak to owners with kindness, and understanding. I really appreciate their conservative approach to care, and the "realness" about treatment options. Front desk is AWESOME and amazing with scheduling! We have had some semi-emergencies and they always find time to squeeze us in. Price is comparable to others in town, but service has been outstanding.

Today we took our 17 month old puppy Abby in for her check up and shots. Dr. Thurmond was our vet for years taking care of our other baby Snicky. She was !5 1/2 when Dr. Thurmond put her to sleep. Abby was very excited to greet the other dogs and especially liked the doctor. She got three shots and still had a wagging tail. We love Dr. Thurmond and feel confident that our babies are getting the best care. The office is clean and new and the doctor runs on time. I highly recommend Dr. Thurmond for excellent care of your pets. There are now three veterinarians at this office. I would suggest making appointments early as there might be a wait for a appointment.

Very kind doctor. I'm beyond pleased with my visit and I must add that my Pom isn't the easiest dog to work with.

Good location. They did well with my dog. They were sort of nice but my experience was fair but nothing to rave about. Pretty expensive.

    How are your prices?

Hello! We are competitively priced with any other reputable hospital in town.

Do you guys take any type of pet insurance?

We work with all types of pet insurance. Generally the client takes care of the balance upon service, we prepare the records for the insurance, and then the insurance pays the client directly.

    Are you taking new clients?

Hello! Accepting new clients is determined around the first of the month, based on how far appointments are scheduled out. We recommend calling around that time. On some occasions we do unfortunately have to close the schedule.

Are you currently taking new clients?

    Yes we do!

    Do you take Credit Care?

Hello! Yes! We do take care credit.

Are you taking new clients now?

Hello! Yes! We are currently taking new clients. Please give the office a call to get scheduled.

    You guys taking new clients?

Currently we have had to take a pause on accepting new clients. We apologize for the inconvenience! We hope to open the schedule back up as soon as possible.

Do you provide euthanasia and cremation services? If not, recommendations?

Hello, yes that is a service we provide in our office. Please give the front desk a call at 661-589-9900, and they can help you make arrangements.

Are you guys taking new clients now?

Hello! Thank you so much for contacting us. We are taking new clients, but it is on a limited basis. Please give us a call at 661-589-9900 and we can go over the new client information with you, as well as provide the next available open date.

Are you accepting walk ins or emergencies?

Hello! Unfortunately at this time we are not able to accept Emergency/Walk in appointments. We are an appointment based office, and currently only have one full time veterinarian on staff. We apologize for the inconvenience!

The kennels are all outdoors and my dog doesn't spend much time outdoors unless we're going on walks, in the pool, or just hanging out in the grass - AKA he's a spoiled indoor dog. Here's the details on Gio's visit: He was placed in a large kennel - divided into two sections: Section 1 has cement and is fully shaded. Section 2 is dirt and without shade. I believe they also have misters, but I couldn't see from where I was standing. Food: You can opt to have your pet fed the food that is provided or bring your own. I opted to bring Gio's food, divided in individual breakfast and dinner baggies (this is Cowen's policy). Gio also takes 2 medications a day - they had no problem administering his meds. Extras: Gio being the spoiled pup he is, I opted to have him exercised and given ice cream during his stay. Maybe it was mom guilt for leaving him in the burning heat for 2 days, but I'm sure he enjoyed it. (There is an additional charge for this) His 2 night/ 3 day stay totaled $55. Gio came back happy and healthy. They even provide you with a cute report card (see attached photo) for how your pet did. A+ camper for G! Will be taking here again in the future.

They gave him an IV and something to help him, but it was too late. He was in a lot of pain and I had to make one of the hardest decisions ever. They were patient, respectful, and helpful. I wish I hadn't needed to bring him in at all, but glad that since I had to, that it was here. My 15 y/o mix had been ill for some time. NOT HERE: First, we were told he had a mass, but most likely benign. I was hopeful and scheduled his appointment for a month out. He was not looking great, so I rushed his appointment to get it removed mid-June. They removed the tumor 6/24 but by then the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes. He's been home and being taken care of. Yesterday he wasn't doing well... I took him to a different ER because it was "more affordable" - big mistake because 12hrs later and we had not been seen. Yes, I paid a little more at VCA, but now I see why.

His vets office was not open on the weekends so we loaded him in my truck and took him to VCA on Saturday night. He was assesed and deemed "stable" and we were dismissed. I was shocked that they were not interested in trying to determine the cause of the tender abdomen or lack of appetite. The next morning (Sunday) he seemed worse.. Not really responding to any of his JOY triggers or favorite people. He was just hiding under the bed. So, we loaded him back up and went back VCA. Once again, after a 2 minute "assessment" we were refused treatment because they determined he was stable enough to go home and make an appointment with our own vet. I thought for sure that they at least run some blood work or obtain some imagery of his tender abdomen, but nope, nothing. By Monday morning he was lethargic and my vet was able to squeeze him in for treatment. They did labwork and an xray/ultrasound. Determined he had a huge stone in his bladder, and we were sent to the emergency vet on Easton. By this time, the numbers coming up in his labwork were pretty soul crushing.. He was in critical condition. The stone had blocked the bladder from emptying and that caused the bladder to rupture. We made the choice to end his suffering. I truly believe that if VCA would have performed an xray then they would have seen the blockage and would have helped him empty his bladder, preventing it from rupturing. PLEASE update your policy and use more thorough assessment. My dog would still be alive if he hadn't been turned away, twice, without a proper assessment.
