    My Mom
    Jordan M.

I think that the hospice staff should I honestly be ashamed of themselves. My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer that went to the brain and we joined up about four months before she passed and I stopped it after a month because I realize that Tidewell was getting paid over $180 a day and they were coming once a week and doing absolutely nothing not even taking her blood pressure. The nurse was meaningless. So about a month before she passed we readmitted her into hospice care and finally the third nurse that came out with Sharon who is supposedly the head nurse. She was rude, she spoke very very loudly and seem to get off on rubbing it in our face is that my mom was dying which my mom didn't really want to admit till two days before she passed. The day my mom did pass Sharon and another nurse came, my mom was completely out of it, they were so tough on her body the way they were moving her around and talking so harshly about other nurses is not doing what he was supposed to do in front of my mom who I didn't think would understand them but yet they told me to keep talking to her because they hear me. Through her illness I asked to please get her a massage, 13 times because they claim they have a masseuse, they don't. They do nothing but they are paid a fortune hiding behind a mask that they are nonprofit which by the way doesn't mean they're not making a fortune of money that means that they're not paying taxes. It was a very very awful experience and I put all the responsibility on the staff for that... My Moms illness and passing was and is the worst thing that happened to me... I miss her constantly, she lived with me for 22 years. If you can find a loving hospice, find it!

Dear Casey, Thank…read moreyou for your support in caring for our mother, Judith. We don't know how we could have done it without your lovely staff, who guided us through everything. I know it was not an easy request when I asked for my mom to be released back to her home late on a Friday evening. I appreciate that you helped us make it happen. It was so good for my sister, her partner, my daughter and I to be together in those last few days as we cared for our mom and each other. Our mom was really suffering in body, mind and spirit and for us to have the control of her comfort in our hands was the best possible gift for her final days. She died on the following Wednesday morning. Transporting her Monday, as the assisted living facility recommended, would have been way too late. We have been telling everyone how wonderful your company is.

DO NOT USE THIS HOPSICE COMPANY!!…read more In difficult times, it is so important to have health care providers you can trust for the comfort and safety of a loved one. This company gave us a horrible experience and did not ease any of the stress or burden that comes with having a family member in the last stages of life. The director was incredibly unprofessional, rude and unempathetic towards me and my family. She called us names, berated us over the phone and did not send us physical support (social services etc..) when we requested it. My family member trusted them to support him and his family, and they failed to do this in any way shape or form. Unfortunately, the only thing we can do now is to get this message out to as many people as possible to ensure that no one ever has to go through the horrible and distressing experience that we had with this hospice company. Please please look elsewhere in your time of need.

As you would expect, it's very quiet, but there is a piano and a nice lounge with free coffee, tea, and cookies for patients and family members and the volunteers. Menu items are available from morning through early evening for the patients, and there are also vendos for family members who want something more than cookies but don't want to leave the premises. Security includes having to be buzzed in and signing in and out. Staff are attentive and sensitive to family's needs. Parking is pretty tight, as it is a campus with other buildings served by the same parking areas. They will ensure that you have a chaplain visit within a day of your loved one's arrival; this is very low-key and ecumenical, another thoughtful feature.

Yet, the Hospice MD listed this as her cause of death on the death certificate. The MD obviously assumed this after meeting her in an unconscious state. Really? How about multiple organ failure or age related death? It is certainly not worth the added grief of pursuing a change on the death certificate as we need to have many copies for all of her various accounts. But I am very disappointed that accuracy is not important to Tide-well Hospice. I can only assume that this was the easiest way to move on to the next source of income. I am not ignorant to the system or the Tidewell monopoly on end of life care in Sarasota. My career has been in healthcare in Sarasota.
