In short, within only about five months of our original purchase, two LINDBERG frames each developed a crack after approximately two months of normal use, and after the second failure, we were not offered a repair, replacement, or refund for the cracked replacement frame. We purchased a LINDBERG frame with premium lenses here about five months ago. After approximately two months of normal use, we noticed a crack developing on the inner/lens side of the frame. We brought the glasses back to the store, and the frame was replaced under warranty. Unfortunately, after approximately another two months of normal use, we noticed a very similar crack developing on the replacement frame, in essentially the same location on the inner/lens side. The glasses had not been involved in an accident or exposed to unusual heat, and we did not use alcohol wipes on them. We returned to the store and explained what had happened. Given that two separate frames had developed similar cracks in essentially the same location within such a short period, we hoped the repeated issue would be investigated and that a reasonable resolution would be offered. However, we were told that the frame would not be replaced again because it had already been replaced once under warranty. The only solution offered to us was to purchase another new frame ourselves, while the store would cover the cost of new lenses. What makes this experience especially frustrating is that no solution was offered for the cracked replacement frame itself - no repair, no replacement, and no refund. The only option presented to us requires us to pay for another frame, even though our original purchase was made only about five months ago. They did not give any reason of the cracking or offer anything else, except asking us to buy a new frame. What we do know is that two separate LINDBERG frames supplied through Century City Optometry developed very similar cracks in essentially the same location after roughly two months of normal use each. For an expensive LINDBERG frame with premium lenses, this is not the product reliability or after-sales experience we expected.

I scheduled and paid for a contact lens exam, expecting the exam to be performed before being fitted for contact lenses. Instead, I was immediately taken into a room and given trial contact lenses based solely on my eyeglasses prescription. When I asked whether an exam would be performed first, I was told it was not necessary because my glasses prescription would be used. After trying approximately five different pairs of contacts, I repeatedly explained that I still could not see clearly. I was eventually sent home with a pair and told that my eyes would "adjust" throughout the day. While speaking with the front desk, I politely asked questions about the contact lens process because my previous experiences at other offices had always included an exam before fitting contacts. The owner overheard the conversation and came out appearing visibly upset. She then offered to perform the exam, saying, "We have time now," but only after hearing me question the process. At that point, I felt uncomfortable and no longer confident in the care I was receiving. As a paying customer, I believe I have every right to ask questions and understand the services I am receiving. No patient should feel intimidated for seeking clarification about their care. After leaving, my eyes became extremely itchy and very red. When I checked one of the contact lens samples I had been given, I discovered it had expired in January 2025--approximately 17 months ago. I contacted the office to request a refund and asked that my vision insurance not be billed. Unfortunately, I later learned that the person involved was the owner, so there was no higher management to address my concerns. The entire experience left me upset and in tears. I cannot recommend this office based on my experience and would encourage others to ask questions and carefully review any contact lenses they are given before wearing them.

There were errors in my prescription that weren't caught until I tried to order contacts and when I called to resolve it, the staff was unhelpful and dismissive. Instead of taking ownership of what was clearly their mistake, they made the situation harder than it needed to be. On top of that, the receptionist I spoke with was rude and lacked any real sense of customer care. The whole interaction felt unnecessarily difficult and left me without contacts for many days. There are plenty of other eye doctors out there who are more detail-oriented and treat patients with basic respect. Thus, I'd suggest going elsewhere.

A technician performed retinal imaging and a vision test and told me there were no changes from my previous visit, when I had been examined by a reputable retina specialist who no longer works at this practice. I was not examined by the physician, Dr. Benjamin, who was on site that day. Afterward, I obtained my medical record and found multiple diagnoses that are incorrect and would require an eye examination to diagnose. The chart also documented symptoms and conditions that I did not have. What alarmed me most was that I was provided with a tear duct scan that did not belong to me. The scan was timestamped after I had already left the office, and the patient's name appeared to be handwritten rather than printed by the imaging system. This raised serious concerns for me about the practice's recordkeeping, patient privacy, and the accuracy of my own medical record. The practice also refuses to produce the native imaging with patient PII embedded in the images.

The reason why that is very special is because when I was 8 I experienced an impact trauma in my right eye that left me with extensive retinal laser surgery, an artificial lens and a large scar in the center of my cornea. I was able to see blurred colors but it wasn't good enough vision for my brain to uptake so it left me with a lazy eye that I had the vast majority of growing up. When I was in college I was given a contact lens because my ophthalmologist said that other than the corneal scar there shouldn't stop me from having good vision. The contact made me see better and got rid of my lazy eye but didn't help much in the way of improving my vision. I could read massive letters, which was a great feat but still far from good vision. It's a really tough prescription to. Most doctors will just skip over my bad eye, replace the same prescription year after year and focus on keeping my good eye safe. Which is fine, but what if you did both? That's where Dr. Newman comes in. Dr. Newman cares, a lot. When she speaks you can tell that she is really intelligent, but also caring enough to make sure that you understand everything about your situation. She will explain things that she is amazed at that no other doctors explained to you before. She is also caring towards your financial situation and is keenly aware on how to bill your insurance as well. I trust her completely. She took an entire hour to find me this new prescription. This new prescription has me seeing a 20/60. Which is only ten points higher than what the best case scenario outcome I had for a freaking corneal transplant. (I have looked into all options). Right now I am doing something that I haven't been able to do since I was 8 years old. I am using only my right eye to type on the computer (Which honestly, I probably didn't even do then). Also I am experiencing my brain slowly learning to use my right eye as the dominant eye when I open my left eye right now. (I took my left eye contact out, which with my new right eye contact makes it so I have substantially better vision than my left). Sure the font size is literally 30 right now, and my face is a foot away from my computer, but I can see. I thought I would share my experience, it's quite amazing one, and people like Dr. Newman definitely need to be celebrated.

However today $158 was charged to my credit card without my consent. Apparently I signed agreeing to keep my card on file but what about prior notice before charging the overage that insurance didn't cover? Apparently they forgot to bill me when I picked up the glasses yesterday, left me a voicemail saying sorry I missed you and asked me to call back. No mention of charging an overage to my card... what if I wanted to use another card or had questions? Very unprofessional. Customer service is very important and this was very disappointing. Not sure I will return.

I have some complicated vision issues: keratoconus and a prior eye surgery and its often difficult to get my exams and specialized lenses covered. It often takes a lot of extra work with multiple fittings and multiple appeals to appease the insurance companies. In the 20 years I've been dealing with keratoconus I've come across few providers that care enough to take the time necessary to get my vision close to what the general public enjoys. Dr Shily is one of those few. He's patient, kind, and thorough. I hope to have him to depend on for many years to come as my eyes age. Dr Shily makes getting older a little less scary.
