Pretty disappointed with my last visit. I usually visit the location on Division. I ordered a couple of tacos that I have gotten before and they were a lot different. The cauliflower taco on division was battered and drenched in sauce, whereas the one on Sandy was barely cooked and barely sauced. So boring and one dimensional. It has to be one of the best feelings in the world when you get what you paid for. I was worried about ordering this burrito because it was $15 without any sides (besides a handful of chips), but boy did I get my moneys worth. This thing was HUGE, and oh so yummy. I'll be dreaming about this Pollo Burrito for the rest of my life. I had never been to such a place like The Zipper, and I thought it was just the coolest concept ever. What a great idea to have different restaurants in one big building; everyone in your party will be satisfied because there are so many options to choose from. Food was pretty good. Taco was crispy and cheesy with juicy birria. The burrito could have had a bit more meat and less rice to have better proportions, but the ingredients were good quality and delicious. The flour tortilla on the burrito had a good springy chew and was cooked well. Salsas were good and simple. Even the tortilla chips were good, kind of like between Juanita's and crunchy restaurant chips. Staff was nice, but the seats were a little uncomfortable. Overall great experience. 8.5/10 read more

Solid place! I love their $10 beans and rice burrito - it's always freshly prepared and I love their house-made salsas as well. Their location in the Zipper always has plenty of picnic tables inside/outside and beers/full bar next door at Paydirt. I have tried their veggie/vegan options but I have found their black beans to be the top best. Service is a little hit or miss, but never had a problem. I have tried ordering Take Out through their website with good luck as well. Enjoy. read more

I got the pollo hellarito, side of fries (to taste them on they're own and there like beer battered and really good!), side of beans and rice, a side of esquite and quesabirria tacos with consommé. I think everything tasted really good and the chicken in the burrito was marinated, seasoned and delicious! Not just poached and plain tasting. Some of the plates come with a few of their homemade chips and those are seriously some of the best tasting chips I've ever had! The side of rice and beans didn't have much flavor. The esquite was really good I just didn't like that everything was sitting in like a liquid. I Just didn't like the thought of liquid mayo lol but I definitely recommend trying this place. This is the first time I had gone into this location and had no idea it was amongst a few other restaurants. Super Duper plan to go and check everyone else out! We did our order online and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes and it was! I am a fan of that. We ordered quite a few items so when I got the bag at pick up, I started to question if they had everything in the bag because it felt super light. They assured me it was all there. I came home and started unpacking and realized that the serving portions were very very small which is why it felt light. The taco sizes were super tiny so I was a little bummed that I didn't order more. But being my first time there, that was my oversight I guess. I will say that for the amount of money we spent for the small small portions I was not a fan of. We ordered some chips and salsa and guacamole. Those were solid and definitely would have again. Between the two of us we ordered Birria tacos, Asada tacos, chicken tacos, and elote. The flavors of all of these were very very good. It came with slices of lime, which I am a fan of. Perfect amount of onions and cilantro. I mean seriously the tacos tasted great. The meats were seasoned well and they were tender. The asada was my least fav of the 3 but still good. The homemade tortillas are really good and also the chips. My husband has been trying different bowls to find his favorite. I tried three different tacos. I was told the grilled chicken wasn't spicy but I am admittedly a heat wimp and it was too much for me and only took two small bites before I stopped. Husband finished it. I did really enjoy the carnitas and the braised beef tacos both were very moist and didn't find big chunks of fat. My omnivore partner grabbed the al pastor, carnitas, and chorizo tacos while I got the impastor and the seasonal veg tacos. We also grabbed some esquites and some thirsty papas (aka nacho fries) to share~ According to my partner, these were the best tacos he's had in Pdx and he highly recommends them for omnivores. My tacos were a bit eh. The impastor one definitely had more flavor but wow the seasonal veg seemed sooo underseasoned and I was slathering both in salsa. Honestly a little bit of a let down. The esquites in one description: LIME AF. Just soooo tangy and acidic which I usually love but this was a little too much lime even for me. The real real real bummer for me were the thirsty papas -- nacho fries which we got topped with soyrizo. I adore fries and order them everywhere we go and these were just so sad and honestly the lowest part of the meal. The toppings were plenty so they definitely did not skimp there, but flavor and taste wise so lacking. The other thing that I found jarring was the price. I know we ordered a lot but I didn't expect to drop quite so much money for what was ordered. I think my overall feel is -- Tight Tacos is great for omnivores and has great intentions with its veggie options though it doesn't quite deliver. The first time I tried this place out I wasn't that impressed and wrote them off. But the other day I had a craving for nacho cheese and didn't feel like having Taco Bell, as I wanted something a little less "manufactured" tasting. So, I decided to give Tight Tacos another shot. I ordered the family taco kit and an order of nachos. The family taco kit was a decent deal, although not stellar. I chose the pastor and birria, both of which were tasty, but the pastor was swimming in grease. The kit came with rice and beans as well, with the rice being nothing special and the beans tasting like they came straight from a can. The real star of the meal was the tortilla chips, which were phenomenal. You can tell they're fried fresh in house, and pair perfectly with the nacho cheese heavy nacho toppings. For the family kit, you have the option of having them cook the corn tortillas or cooking at home which I thought was a nice touch. Overall the experience was good, not great, but is for sure on my list if I'm ever craving nacho cheese in the same way again. read more

I'm one of those who initially winces at the thought of a non-Mexican owned taco business. It's not because of the debatable topic of "cultural appropriation", but rather because the taste often doesn't measure up and price points tend to be high. So I'm not a big fan of Tacovore, Stella Taco, The Taco Pedaler, Por Que No, etc. Well, the prices here are higher than at Mexican-owner hole-in-wall places, BUT the taste is a rockin! The carnitas were the perfect blend of spice, char, and juiciness. The tortillas are one of the best in town (Matt's Tacos also come to mind.) Your taco is complemented by some much better than average chips and garnish and is served on an aesthetically pleasing platter. It makes the higher price points palatable and a better deal than the aforementioned overrated competition. The Keto bowl rocked, it's a definite reorder. Service was friendly, but please tell the kid not to stare after spinning the pay pad (anticipating a tip.) read more

I feel bad giving low reviews, but this was pretty disappointing. Hard to find good tacos that are reasonably priced, and unfortunately this place was average at best. Bf and I decided to try something new, so we came here. Standard fare, I got the Al pastor burrito + guac, he got 2 tacos and asked for a side of guac. My burrito was just fine, but it was pretty stuffed, thankfully. Only downside was the meat being pretty dry. My horchata was also pretty watery and bland. Bfs tacos were fine too, but they mistook his order of a side of guac for a side of guac + chips which was $6? Normally wouldn't care about being given extra of something, but it was $5 more than he would have had to pay. That's a lot for chips + guac. And his michelada was in a 24 oz cup but they serve premade mix and it wasn't even filled all the way. Wasn't stirred either. Not saying the food was bad, but definitely disappointing considering how expensive it was. Oh well, we tried it and didn't love it. read more

I sat at one of the tables near the fire pit and took in the cool atmosphere. My order was finished way faster then I expected which was great of course! My last stop on my Taco Tour-day/Tuesday, I wasn't sure what more Tight Tacos could offer. I was wrong. BEST DAMN TORTILLAS IN PORTLAND (I've found so far). The hand pressed corn tortillas are warm, soft, and SOOOOO fluffy. It definitely elevates the Taco game, so shame on anyone who serves a taco in a tortilla that's cold or not properly grilled. Compared to the Pastor Cauliflower taco at Tamale Boy, I liked this one more. It wasn't as heavy on the oil, there was way more cauliflower, and I thought it was more impressive for the similar price. The "Veggie Forever" taco was a total flop. If it didn't have the INCREDIBLE tortilla to elevate it, I wouldn't have taken more than a bite of its completely bland interior. Is it possible to just order the tortillas from Tight Tacos? Because I'm here for it. I'm not kidding when I say I'd eat a tortilla taco...just tortillas wrapped in more of these magical ones they've got at Tight Tacos. read more

For me it's all about the carnitas tacos here. Tight is exactly as the name says, then sh*t's is tight! Larger than mission style tacos so you can order less, but they're also big on flavor. Homemade tortillas, house pickled onions and the proteins are on point! I also dig the Nachos, though they're more like their take on Taco Bell's Naxos Bell Grande, but far less likely to leave you hovering over a porcelain throne wishing that late night engulfed had been avoided. Continuing my pursuit of finding Portland's greatest tacos al pastor I had to give Tight Tacos a fair shake. One look at their Instagram page and it is clear that these guys know what they are doing and have a passion for tacos and Mexicali style street food. The main picture Tight Tacos posted some time ago that sucked me in and guaranteed that I would patronize their establishment was a picture of a trompo (or spit) of al pastor. I am only aware of a few taquerias in the area who use a trompo for making pastor, but alas I was a little sad to learn that they only use their trompo on rare occasion. I'll start with what I enjoyed most about the taco. Perhaps the best part of these tacos was the hand made tortillas they came served on. They held together nicely, had a great flavor and texture. Not enough taquerias utilize hand making tortillas but it is one thing that clearly separates the best taquerias from the basic ones. The tortilla from Tight Tacos merits 5 stars. The taco came topped with freshly diced white onions and a conservative portion of cilantro (I love cilantro and would have personally loved much more, but to each their own). Lastly for toppings was the piña- a must for legit tacos al pastor! While I was very happy the tacos came with pineapple, it was kind of disappointing that they chose to use canned pineapple. It made me think, if you're going to go through the labor of love to make tortillas by hand, why not make the extra effort to use fresh pineapple? It could make a world of difference to these tacos in my opinion. Now to the meat of it: the pastor. The pork was quite a bit more spicy/hot than most of the pastor I am accustomed to. I didn't mind the level of heat, but I was not expecting it. So if you have a low threshold for heat, this might not be the pastor you are looking for. I did enjoy it however. There was a very generous portion of meat on every taco, bordering on too much meat. The pork itself was good but a little on the chewy side. I love my pastor a touch more crunchy. The flavor of the pastor marinade came across as a little smoky like ancho chile. I'd give the pastor meat and marinade a solid 3.5 stars. The salsas that came with the tacos were quite tasty, one cup of salsa verde, and one cup of salsa roja. They were both quite tasty with my preference leaning towards the roja, which is odd because I typically prefer verde. All in all, I think there is a lot of potential here. I'd love to try their al pastor prepared on a trompo. I'm not sure however that the al pastor is Tight Tacos crown jewel. Based on their photos, their carnitas looks like they might be the star of the menu. I'll have to give them a shot next time. Portland is very much a carnitas town but I wish more taco carts specialized in al pastor. As far as al pastor in Portland is concerned, Tight Tacos makes a pretty solid offering, but has some work to do to meet the standard I've become accustomed to in Salt Lake City, Southern California, and obviously...Mexico. Lastly, I will say, that while the ingredients were fresh, the tortillas stellar, and the size of the tacos great...$4 per taco is a little steep even for a brick and mortar joint. I'd be a lot more inclined to patronize this taqueria more frequently if the prices were a little more in line with other taquerias in town of equal quality. read more

I am a huge fan of tight tacos so I was excited to find out they opened their first brick & mortar. located inside the zipper building, they are within a food hall with about 3-4 other dining options w/ a bar. i was with a friend who got two tacos- one carne asada & one carnitas. i got the bowl w/ chicken. he felt as though the carne asada was lacking, which i tried and would have to agree, something was missing. the carnitas was amazing, as always. i think this is what they do best in terms of protein. the bowl was great although different than i remember.. maybe less veggies or something. it had spanish rice, chicken, onions, cilantro, crema & served with a few chips and pickled onions. it was good and filling and felt overall pretty healthy. maybe a little too much rice? but that might just be me. service was kind as always and you can tell the food is made to order and not just sitting around. i do wish maybe they had more a variety of hot sauces & salsas? with just two options and nothing of a traditional tapatio or valentina or something of that sort i felt i needed a bit more spice. overall the new location is wonderful and i'm sure they'll do great in this spot. i look forward to coming back. read more

Always had a great time and experience with Tight Tacos, after hearing that they are opening up a solid location other than the current carts they own, I had to stop by and show support! Location is great with many other options and a bar on hand, about 5pm it started to pick up within an hour the zipper location was very busy. Pro tip: come early! 5 stars for me, can't wait to make this a go to during the spring/summer time with the big open area out back! Congrats Tight Tacos on the new location! It was my first time going to the zipper and I was excited this place was there, the location was nice. I went with my mom and sister and it was not a great experience. We ordered; esquite, tacos de asada/ al pastor/ birria, Papas de Asada, buñuelos, michelada, topo chico pineapple and a coke. First the food was not worth what we paid for which was sad because the tacos came with hand made tortillas but they were cold and the meats we not flavorful. The esquite was eh the corn was dark . Overall the food presentation was good but taste wise I've had better at cheaper prices. The service I'd say was what put a butter taste in our mouths because the cashier put a topo chico in the michelada and gave us a pineapple jarrito, we were confused why that happened and we tried to correct the situation by telling her what we wanted. She got weird and said well you never said what beer you wanted . . . . We dropped it because we were hoping that the food would help us calm down but it was just disappointing. I LOVE Tight Tacos! The queso taco is so delicious. I was at the NE Sandy location yesterday and the womyn who took our order was so kind and helpful. I really appreciated the great customer service. The only downside was there seemed to be a Moped group meeting in the dining area and they rudely took up the entire space. Like they filled tables with their helmets and gear and more tables for their cake and snacks. Not sure why they were allowed to take over the entire indoor space when it was raining and cold outside? read more
