I did not remember if I had like the food or not. When we arrived there were a few tables. He ordered the Taco special, which was 2 tacos, tortilla chips, and a drink. I ordered the steak salad. His tacos were not the average size, which he was happy about. My steak salad was really good. I really was surprised at how much I enjoyed my salad. Ever hear of the Crisco Kid? This taco contains Crisco's cousin "Valvoline" , yah, the motor oil. Delivery was seamless and the driver prompt and courteous. This is where the adventure begins. As I opened the bag I found my 4 tacos nestled in two separate containers. For 30 freaking dollars, it better be nestled... Let me digress, these "tacos" were, I'm assuming, aborted from a chalupa of sorts. The meat, unidentified to this date, was coated in a viscus liquid other wise knows as previously stated "Valvoline". The taco was heavy, but not in a good way. It was a saturated chupacabra and was in need of a stake to the heart. The mixture of lettuce and tomato with this oil pit just made it difficult to identify the meat mixture from the other toppings. Came here for an Elite Week special event, so I got to try a few things on the house. First off, I will say that the place is very nice looking, clean, good lighting (not too much, not too little). There's a salsa bar with various salsas you can try on your food, and the salsa bar is very clean. The young woman who took my order was super nice and friendly. What's extra nice about this place is even though you order at a counter, they bring you your food to the table, and then they come around to see if everything is ok or see if you need a drink refill, like at a regular (non-fast-food) restaurant. So I got the "Dueling Quesos" to start. Basically chips (a LOT of chips) and 2 types of queso. The white queso I thought was pretty bland, but the orange queso wasn't bad and had a little kick. Well, at least it had some flavor. Then I had the pork tacos, which were ok. Not great, but ok. Then I had the chimichanga. That was pretty good, and a decent size. Had a nice sauce on it. Overall, pretty tasty and filling. Is this place a great Mexican restaurant? Definitely not. The hemp tortilla was good and I got it filled with steak, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. The meat wasn't overcooked and the toppings made it even better. My husband got the nachos with all the toppings. He ate it faster than I could even blink. The service was exceptionally quick and it simply rocks with the decor and music. Whatever Tijuana Flats is doing to ensure their managers are always on their game, I have to give credit to their team for doing so. The manager at this location, Jose (I believe), surprised my group with some free chips & salsa, due to the fact that the beer I ordered had literally just ran out on the keg. I didn't ask for this, nor did it bother me that I had to switch my beer choice, but he wasn't taking "no" for an answer when it came to offering us some food goodies in place of an apology for running out of the beer. At the end of our meal, he wanted to check in again to make sure all was well. My boyfriends' food was great, except that he ordered queso to be added to one of his items and it wasn't there; he mentioned this to Jose, but said it didn't matter because the food was amazing anyways and there wasn't any point in complaining earlier. Jose was stunned - he wanted to make it right! He offered us another pitcher, or a dessert... we were really full, but thanked him anyways and said not to worry.
