Ugh, I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately the food lacks flavor. We got the street style tacos, the chicken, fish and meat, and there is just too much going on with them, pineapple? Random cheese? Anyways.. The first thing I ate was the guacamole and chips, and that was the beginning of the end, so bland, didn't taste good at all, I had to put salt in it, and lime to see if I could I'm a big fan of authentic Mexican food, and I know this is is not supposed to be authentic, thus the hard shell tacos on the menu (hard shell tacos don't exist in Mexican food), but I figured how bad can it be? Well...pretty bad. Second thing I had was the street style fish tacos...again lacking any flavor, the fish felt that it had come from some frozen box or something. Again I asked for lime to see if I could make it taste better, but I barely finished one. The chicken taco, which was the last thing I tried to eat, was supposed to be "jerk" chicken, tasted more like buffalo? It was gross... At that point, the server came and ask us how the food was, and I honestly felt bad, so didn't say anything. I dig this place, the food is OK, the prices have increased over time, but the staff are young kids that are always very good at what they're doing & the manager they have is a cool cat. The MAIN EVENT is the hot sauce bar! I LOVE this thing, 10-12 sauces ranging from mild to 'melt your face' HOT! They have their mainstays, that are always there (all very good...), as well as really cool & creative hot sauces... honey infused, curry combined, datil-pepper, hundreds of choices & you can buy them (even the ones not featured, ask for the hot sauce menu/pamphlet thing...) I always keep it simple when ordering, a beef chimichanga, tacos, or burrito & let the sauces make it nice, I always walk out of there w/ a bottle of my favorite or one I want to try... It's gotten increasingly pricier to go there the last few years, it's no longer in my 'cheap eats' category for lunch, ( Mexican food-wise ) but not bad at all... Dinner delivered to my hotel (family of 4 on vacation). I ordered wheat burrito but flour burrito was sent. Flavor was very tart and out of the ordinary. I am very familiar with this dish since it's the only one I order from this establishment. Ordered a specific sauce on the side but it was not delivered. So we visited this place for the first time today. Had a great lunch. We ordered a burrito, quesadillas with chicken and a beef taco. We really liked all of it. The big buffet of spicy sauces they offer is fun! We - as visitors - appreciate the free wifi as well! And as everyone already noted: the staff is really very friendly and helpful! This was not at all what I expected, or wanted, when I was looking for a Mexican food place to try. Everything had to be ordered separate so I didn't order rice & beans with my enchiladas. The red sauce was not good, the salsa tasted like diced up tomato, no seasonings at all. Enchiladas came with a few chips but I left wanting more. Will not be back. Waste of money. Oh and their was a lady behind me eating with her dog sitting next to her in the booth! What??? Gross. I do not want to smell wet dog while I'm eating. (It was a rainy day). The fact that so many casual Mexican or tex-mex places are open and this place still stakes out a memorable place in the market speaks volumes. The portions are good, the food is above-average quality (nothing to write home about, but still very good), and the service is good. What really separates this place above the others is the ambience and the environment- the walls are plastered with graffiti like artwork with a punk rock attitude. The sauce bar is awesome and a great touch - but you must be warned, the spicier sauces are not for the faint of heart. This is a great place to go with friends on a Saturday before making plans, or a Tuesday with a group of coworkers. I understand how the place could be hard to find in a bustling shopping plaza, but once you've found it once, you'll have no trouble finding it again. read more

I thought this was going to be pretty bad. It just gave me that vibe. I was pleasantly surprised. It's not the best Mexican food you'll get in your life but it's a step up from Taco Bell. Prices were affordable. I got the bowlritto or something like that and also chicken nachos to share. Their queso is really good too. I will probably go back if I want something quick that isn't necessarily fast food. We got the order to go and will probably continue to do so. read more

This is the second time we have came here. This place is cool because of the atmosphere and the different hot sauce options. My son loved it because he was able to challenge his daddy in a contest of who could handle the hottest hot sauce. The service was good because they keep coming around and checking to see if you need refill. The reason I am giving 3 stars is because there was hardly no meet inside of our burritos. Food was cold and had to be sent back to be reheated. Make sure you get a receipt because they overcharged me for an additional taco. I was a little surprised when I didn't receive an itemized receipt and to find an overcharge made me a little suspicious. It all begins at the top with Management. Just so so. The "format" of this place isn't all that user friendly. You pick up your own menu, select your own table, then go to the counter to place your own order. Food is then served to you at your table. This place is just a step or two above a Taco Bell, and for the money I would head across the street to Moes next time. read more

My family and I really like to go here. The food is always fresh and hot and the service is outstanding. The place is more often than not very clean and the younger kids (teenagers) that work there are super courteous. The only thing I don't agree with is the charge for sour cream when you are deleting 2-3 other items off your order. The food is so good! I had never been to Tijuana Flats before, but I went two days in a row last week. I love the flautas. And there's so many delicious sauces to choose from. They also put the Bucs game on the TV for me while I was eating. My second visit was late on a Sunday evening. It was about 30 minutes before close, and I know I'm a jerk for coming that close to close, but the two girls working there were so nice. And they didn't ignore us so they could clean up. They refilled our drinks for us and didn't try to rush us out the door. It may not be that way all the time, but I received stellar service. read more

I almost hate to write this negative review because I have been eating here for years and I really love this place, but management needs to know there are issues. Last week my friend and I decided to stop for a burrito about 4:00 in the afternoon. We weren't greeted with the usual "Hi...have you been here before" when we entered, and the menu has changed dramatically. They used to have 3 different sizes of burrito and now only one. The tortillas were so stale we could barely cut them with the plastic knife and fork.
