We stopped in for a quick bite on our way to Waimea Canyon. The cashier was very friendly and helpful with our questions. I ordered the tiki fire pork taco with no sour cream or cheese. I like spicy and this was pretty spicy. The pork was lean which was a plus. The salsa was good. My husband had the fish and shrimp taco with no cream and a cheese quesadilla. He thought they were both great. The only downside was we like tortilla chips with our tacos and they only had Hawaiian potato chips. Absolutely amazing--do not drive by without stopping. Fresh, homemade tortillas paired with your choice of delicious meats make these tacos next-level. We tried the asada beef and the tiki fire beef, and I was honestly blown away by how good they were. You can customize them, but we ate ours as-is, and the combination of cabbage, queso, sour cream, grilled onions, and homemade salsa was absolute perfection. I literally dream about these tacos now and wish I had ordered more. When I make it back to the island, I will 100% be making the drive to eat here again--multiple times. Outrageously overpriced, average tacos; disappointing service; and a bare bones set up (when you're paying $13 for a fish taco, you expect to be able to get a free glass of water, a restroom to use, or a smile from the staff). I honestly do not see what all the hype is about. I live in San Francisco, and our local taquerias serve much more flavorful tacos at much more reasonable prices. The fact that the staff member never cracked a smile was pretty disappointing. When I asked for a cup of water, I was told that wouldn't be possible, but they'd be willing to refill a personal water bottle for me. It was also disappointing they had no restrooms available for patrons. The prices here were quite steep, at about $9-13 a taco, depending on the type. While the tacos are bigger than your typical street taco, they still don't warrant the crazy high price tag. To their credit, the indoor seating area was clean, air conditioned, and pleasant. Flavor was ok, can't expect too much for tacos in Hawaii. The kalua pig was not kalua pig. No smokiness to it at all. It is basically carnitas. My recommendation is to change the menu name to carnitas or add some liquid smoke to your "kalua pig" to be able to call it that. We had very limited options coming back from the canyon since everything closed early and everything just did not taste very good to us. The tacos are doused with lettuce and the white sauce which made them soggy and lack even more flavor. The waitress was not very nice and just mainly sat on her phone and would not attend to many people. They did not have any fresh salsa either. The ambiance was okay and not the most clean place. After a long day of hiking, we were headed back to our hotel and looking for anything decent that was close. We stumbled upon Tiki Tacos and we were served by the owner of the establishment. The indoor atmosphere is not great and this place would do amazing with some outdoor seating, but stay for the amazing food and friendly staff. I tried the fish and shrimp taco and carne asada. Delicious. The owner gave me the whole history of the traditional taco with all the ingredients. She described the "street taco" as being meant to be served on the street and not in a restaurant.
