Very good, non-pretentious dive bar. Cheap drinks, friendly bar tenders, with a juke box. $3 cans, $6 shot and a beer, among other dive options. This place is fantastic because there is almost always a place to sit, and its way less hectic than other East Village options. There is no sign for this place. read more

non-descript place to get non-descript service in a non-descript atmosphere. the crowd is usually random, and inoffensive. a large group can easily dominate this small space. drinks are always cheap. i generally love these spots, but there are better ones in the neighborhood...international bar has a little more character. but check tile bar out for yourself to be sure. read more

Always a favorite of mine. It hasn't changed in the 20 or so years I have stopped in which is great. The drinks are fair priced, the clientele are old school East Villagers. Not the place for NYUers or Bridge and Tunnel people. Just very low key. read more

Normally I'm a bit of a stranger to hipster dives like this, but I was roped into coming with some friends who were on a budget. Damn, this place is perfect for that... As long as you accept that "drinks on a budget" includes pbr and some whiskey that elsewhere just might classify as something resembling gasoline. Whatever it is, it does the job and it's so cheap they practically pay you to get it. Evidently there are quite a few Manhattanites who appreciate such a deal. I don't know why I have walked into this place before. It started pissing out, so we needed a place to go, and this place had an amazing happy hour. 3.50 beers and 2.50 well drinks. Pretty good price if you ask me! I also liked the decor - black and white tiles on the floor, juke box, cool diner like tables. Nicely lit - not too bright at all. OK, went here again last night after popping in a number of other bars I thought I'd like on a Friday night but that were packed with loud and/or college-y crowds. This place has a great Friday night vibe with mixed, socially engaged peoples. No screaming or shot-taking and low on the hipsterism scale. And I found out I really like their jukebox. If you are looking for a low-key dive bar with nothing but cheap drinks and a juke box, you have come to the right place. The bar is pretty young, but there is really a mix of people that come here. There is nothing spectacular about this bar, and I would not come here as a destination, but if you live around here, I would definitely say to stop by for a pint of beer. Unassuming dive bar on the corner of E 7th and 1st ave. There's no sign, just a little mosaic of titles above the door. This place is not for those seeking a place to be seen. It's for those who want a cheap drink and a low-key time. In the summer it was filled with regulars (as in, people in the neighborhood who all know one another and the bartender). I like it because you can talk in there, it's very local and adult, muted, low key, and the happy hour is the best deal in town. Most of the bartenders pour drinks so strong (which I like) that you wince at the first sip. Great place. Never dead, but never overcrowded or too loud for talking. Very clean, civilized and low-key. Bartenders there are great people. Not dive bar prices but relatively cheap, and the bartenders usually offer every third round on the house if they are well tipped and manage to keep count. Tap selection is minimal, but all quality and fresh (Brooklyn Pilsner, Guinness, Bass). The only bar in New York where I feel at home. read more

We did come another night of the wk (on a thurs or fri, it wasn't as friendly) but my original experience was best on a Monday when Clair was here. Went here back in March with a friend on Saturday night...it's a no frills classic dive bar. What can be better than that?!? It's small, cash only and has a cool juke box which adds to the charm of the place. I was able to snag a section by the front window which is prime location for people watching. Overall the place has a nice vibe and is worth checking out. read more
