On a windy day, I met up with a friend here for a drink and it ended up being such a great choice. This is a fantastic bar with a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. A really cozy spot on a block where no other bar can compete. This is one of those places you'd never know about unless you've been there before, were invited by someone, or just happened to stumble upon it while passing by. It has that quiet, tucked-away charm like a true neighborhood secret. The bartender was great, the vibe felt relaxed and friendly, and everything about the space gave off that traditional pub feel, which I absolutely love. The background music was spot-on not too loud, just enough to set the mood. I really hope I get the chance to come back again. I love this place. After a long day of shopping in soho. You have this little dive bar oasis thats like the best thing in the world. I wish I could transport the bartender Joe to my neighborhood. We've been in town for a couple of days having traveled from Chicago to attend the Grief and Grievance exhibition at the New Museum. We'd been told that Toad Hall was a great place for beers, conversation and music. Is it ever! Bartender and host Joe greeted us warmly, took our temperatures, and served up our first round along with chips, a tin of Vienna sausages and a Hostess cupcake. Who does that? Brilliant! Perfect old school bar! Tay is the best bartender in NYC!! So fast and so funny - a true gem

A dive in all the classic ways except for cheap drinks. Well tequila shots are $9, a draft beer is $8. And pool costs $1.50/round. Open until about 4am though so a late night spot to pop in if you need one. read more

Reminds me of my dive bars back home in Astoria. This place gives me joy when I walk in and joy in my pocket on the way out. Drinks were fairly cheap, bartender was down to earth like you like 'em, and overall vibe was something different that a hipster soHo Bar. This would most likely be my neighborhood bar if I lived in the area. Highly recommend if you want a low key type of establishment and a little more $ in your pocket. read more

Popped in here for a quick beer on our way uptown and ended up staying the whole night! Absolutely fantastic bar, the amazingly attentive bartender Taylor (cute brunette) somehow managed to anticipate our every want, all the while constantly wrangling a full bar of appropriately doting regulars. 1000% will revisit, there aren't enough of these bars in New York any more and I urge anyone to visit this gem while they can. If you have the great fortune to have the unbelievably charming Taylor as your bartender, then that's all the better. Also a great pool table and pretty challenging players. read more

This is where I want to go to shoot pool with strangers and have a cheap drink. The owner is incredibly friendly. The space is your typical dive, not loud, no snobby faces. If you have a group or 4 or more it's hit or miss. For pool, stock up on quarters or ask the bartender. They have no problem providing change. read more

We stumbled on this place because we had an hour or so before our dinner reservations were to start and it didn't disappoint. We found space at the bar and sat down to ice cold drinks and good conversation. The bartenders were friendly and the atmosphere was light and fun. 2 college games were on the TV and someone from the French culinary academy made them a cake and while we were there they offered us some which was nice. The only thing negative I have to say is that is smelled a bit like a frat basement but that's ok and it is kinda what you expect when you go to a pub. I really enjoyed my time there and when I go back to the area and have some time to kill, I'll go back! read more

They don't like you if you're white collar. I ordered two tequila sodas from the bartendress with attitude on july 4th ... the bar was quiet other than some old local guys. The bartendress gave me a very weak pour. I tipped her $4. I went back in for another round and the pour was even weaker. I was wearing a button down shirt and she probably mistook me for one of the myriad young turk douchebags who have overtaken the town ... but I'm not ... and either way, should not have been given weak cocktails for the price I was paying. Unless you're a service contractor with dust on your shirt, avoid this place or you'll get treated badly. read more

Toad Hall- I like you a lot and hate you a little. The likes? I was looking for a little neighborhood place and Toad Hall fit the bill to a "T". Our server was attentive and quick with the drinks and even later in the night when we had to go to the bar to get our own drinks (this should have been a clue . . .more on that later) the bartenders were great- remembering our order even though the place was packed. I liked the pool table in the back (even though my pool playing left much to be desired!) and here's a hint- if you are looking for a place to sit- there is bench seating in the back that makes it easy to find a place to perch and to catch up with friends. So why do I hate you a little? First, the restrooms are just bad. Two unisex bathrooms situated in the middle of the bar make rest stop restrooms look good. The smell alone could make lesser women weep. And the other thing? I wish someone had told me that this city truly "never sleeps". When I finally looked at my watch and it was 5am and last call had still not been uttered- I knew I was in trouble. Oh Toad Hall- how I love to hate you. Great music - kicks off the evening with some old rock, and as it gets toward make-out hour they round out the evening with Marvin Gaye's crooning. The bartender had a solid read on the crowd, and he knew I was not a beer girl. Made me some blueberry vodka lemonade that did the trick. He was chill, unpretentious, and honestly is the reason why I added a star. I asked him about the name, hoping and hoping that it has something to do with Wind in the Willows. And sure enough, it does. And I love that. read more

First and last time visiting this bar. Went to go meet up with some friends who were already drinking. The bartender was an older woman, probably 60s? Who asked if we wanted a drink. We politely declined the first time as we weren't ready for a drink yet and we were there to meet up with friends to leave as a group. A couple of friends decided they wanted to join the others and get drinks as well. Myself and one other friend did not want any drink at the moment. The bartender came around and basically told us "you're at a bar, you have to buy a drink. You can't be in here just to hang out. We're a business and this is how we pay our rent." Appalled and disgusted by her comment, we left. 7/9 from our group were drinking and met the minimum $25 tab requirement. I don't see the issue of two people not drinking? Anyways, she was completely rude, passive aggressive and made us uncomfortable and our time there awful. For your own sake, find another dive bar in soho. If she keeps that attitude up, she'll have more trouble paying rent when she's kicking people out like that. read more

Where have you been all my life? i love a good old school, divey bar that's got some panache to it. I have not been on a Friday or Saturday night at about midnight to see if gets completely annoying and stupid, so i can't give it a 4 star rating (yet). But i really liked the atmosphere, was pleased to see that their wine selection was quite nice (most dive bars you don't go to for the wine) and the staff was friendly without being cheesey or intrusive. definitely going back soon. read more

Another place I wouldn't go to, but someone chose this place for an after hour group drinks and right when E and I walked in, we're like let's split and go somewhere else...but P convinced us to stay and so E, S and I hung around and watched our group play pool. I knew this place definitely would not have "fruity" drinks, but for some reason I asked and the bartender looked at me like I was crazy. I figured, so whatever...S and I got a Stoli and Soda - OMG, Joe, the bartender totally made it strong. Normally, people wouldn't complain about their drinks being strong, but I am not a huge fan of alcohol if it doesn't taste like fruit and so this drink took me forever to finish.
