Yesterday we went to Timbers, great food as always! We love this place however the service quality has gone down. The host was sitting on her phone to the side when I came in with what appears to be a server when there were customers that walked up to the bar waiting for a drink. Another worker, a young boy who I assume to be a busser was sitting at the bar which I would assume is not allowed. Especially when there were things to do. I was waiting to get attention for someone for too long. Luckily, the girl who brought us our food (she wasn't a server I don't think) apologized after we told her our complaints and made the rest of the visit much better. This place is a bit of a throwback to a bygone era. That is not a bad thing at all, just don't expect modern new age food. This place is old school steakhouse and they do old school steakhouse things. I had the ribs and the wife had pan seared salmon. Both dishes were well prepared and tasty. The star of the show was the oxtail macaroni and cheese. The service was ok but not stellar. The client were predominantly older couples and families with kids. Loved everything about Timber's Roadhouse. While dropping our daughter off at college we decided to dine here and it will now be a regular spot for us! We ordered the classic cheeseburger, spaghetti, alfredo pasta, local catch, and chicken piccata. Everyone enjoyed their meals, seasoned perfectly and very good food. I have to say, I was impressed. Beautiful rustic lodge atmosphere that I would imagine would be great for a date. But alas, I wasn't on a date. So, on to the service and the food. Nice friendly vibe here and they provided everything I asked for but I'm pretty easy to please. I had the fish and chips, they were very good and a deal at $16. My husband and I decided to to take a drive to Santa Barbara for New Year's Eve and stay a few days. A change of scenery to ring on the New Year. I understand that on New Year's Eve, many places are very busy and they may be understaffed, but this was not the case at Timber's Roadhouse on this particular night. Because we planned on drinking that evening, we wanted to just get some food to go to take back to our hotel room so we could relax, have a few cocktails, and not worry about driving. I searched local restaurants in the area and found that the reviews for Timber's were very good. Door Dash wasn't available, so we put in an order on the phone and were told our order would be ready in about 20 minutes. We were less than 10 minutes from the restaurant and left right after we called in our order. When we arrived, we were greeted by a pleasant young woman, and we informed her that we were there to pick up an order to go. I gave her my name and was told to wait. I had noticed a to-go bag sitting by the cash register and asked her if that was our order, and was told no. A young man, I'm guessing a waiter, had approached us, asking if we had been helped, and we again informed him we were there to pick up an order. Gave him my name, he checked the bag by the cash register, and then told us our order was not ready and it would not be much longer. We waited about 10 minutes longer and the bag on the cash register, that had now been sitting there for at least 20 minutes or longer, was then moved to the bar area. The bar was adjacent to one of the two large dining rooms, where only 1 party was sitting, and the other dining room was about 1/2 full. Needless to say, this place was not full to capacity and there seemed to be enough staff to serve the people there at that time. While sitting in near the bar, we were approached twice by two different servers and told them both we were waiting on an order to go and gave them my name. The same to-go bag still sitting by the bar. I had already asked once if that was our order and was told no. The bartender calls us over after about 25 minutes of waiting and tells us our order is ready to be picked up and grabs the bag that had traveled from the cash register by the entrance to the bar area where it sat. We had ordered two burgers with fries, two salads, and a sprite to go. Our Sprite was put into a small, coffee cup to-go, without any ice, which was about the size of small child's drink that we paid $3 for. The bartender had informed us that they had nothing larger to put the drink in. And when I asked for ice, she said nothing and walked away to grab the bag of food. I will never leave another restaurant without looking in the bag and taking a look at the food. The burgers, which had sat for at least 30 minutes were cold, and the buns were so soggy, you couldn't pick the burger up to eat it. The fries were also soggy, bland, and they only gave us each about 10 fries, if that. Even for steak cut fries, they were on the smaller size and wouldn't satisfy a toddler. Our salads and dressing were now warm and wilted, after having sat in the same bag as the warm burgers and fries, which were now cold and soggy. No utensils or napkins in the bag No apologies for our order sitting in two different places while we waited and it wasn't as if our name wasn't on the bag and had not been checked by 3 different people. The place wasn't busy, even for New Year's Eve, and you would hope that after spending $60 dollars for a burger and fries, you would get something decent to eat. Granted, we didn't open each box that contained the burgers, fries ,or the two salads, but I wish I would have. And...I won't leave another place without checking again. We love the Santa Barbara/Goleta area and have eaten at some great places. Maybe eating in the restaurant is the only way to get good service and decent food, but it shouldn't be. I would love to give them more than one star, but the whole experience was below average. We also tried to call after we returned to our hotel to see if we could maybe get our food replaced, but no one answered our call. Jack and the Box had a better burger and fries. Tanya is a charismatic charming professional who knows the menu and anticipated all our dining needs. We had the best dining experience and the food was so over the top fantastic. It was great to discover this gem after a long day of driving. No need to get gussied up and deal with crowded parking in downtown Santa Barbara. We love this restaurant! The wait staff are so nice and very attentive. Love the big cabin feel and huge fireplace. They have a casual side and more formal side (same menu) very comfortable. I am pretty picky and we have had just about everything on the menu with no complaints. For appetizers we love the grilled artichoke and roasted brussel sprouts. The tomato bisque is delicious. We love the filet mignon and the Timbers hamburger with onion bacon jam and blue cheese! Crispy herbed chicken, fish special (halibut!), duck con fit and fish and chips! We were attending an event at UCSB and this was the perfect spot for an early dinner. The bread was warm & delicious, I had the fish of the day - halibut- and it was perfectly cooked. It came with a rice pilaf and green beans and both were flavorful and tasty. Husband had the baby back ribs, baked potato and green beans. He loved everything. Timbers is walking distance fro our home and after Soooo many years sitting vacant, we're happy the place is back open. The owners, formerly of Woodys BBQ, are trying really hard to make this new venture work and be successful. We've been three times now but the latest visit was mostly to listen to the band in the bar area...the place was hopping! I started with the bacon wrapped jalapeños poppers off the HH menu...practically too spicy for me to eat! I don't blame the restaurant though...jalapeños can vary a lot in the amount of heat they deliver. My main was the classic wedge which oddly enough did not have bacon crumbles (minus one star). service was great, but overall the food was super mid. i got chicken parm and mashed potatoes both of which had no flavor. we also got a sandwich and a steak which were just okay nothing amazing. the highlight was definitely the bread simply for how soft it was and only that. we got a free birthday sundae which was yummy but hard to mess up a sunday and a crème brûlée which was good but cold and would've been nice if it was warmed up. it was also a super super weird experience because it was so quiet in the restaurant. there's no background music of any kind and if you go when there's not many people it can feel pretty awkward because you feel like everyone can hear your conversation. read more

Bottom Line: Not bad, not great The last time I had been to Timbers was probably 20-25 years ago. The history of this place is actually quite extraordinary. There were only two attacks on the continental United States during WWII. One of them was in Oregon with a 'fire balloon' and the other one was near Goleta by a Japanese submarine which ended in the destruction of the pier that was there. That pier was salvaged and used to create this restaurant. You can see WWII history literally burned into the walls of this establishment. Inside, it's massive. It's almost like two restaurants put together. In the main dining area near the bar, there are many large screens for your viewing pleasure. There's a large outdoor area with lots of activities as well. My wife and I seized the chance during week to take some time away from everything and have lunch here. I ordered the 1/4 chicken meal and the wife had the fish and chips. Right off I have to say that I was disappointed. The chicken was very pink on the inside, I ate what I felt had been cooked through and that part was ok. The rest of it was not cooked enough to eat, at least from what I've seen in my time working in restaurants, and grilling etc. My wifes fish was pretty good - I stole her coleslaw as my plate only had fries on it. I enjoyed the slaw as well. The service was good - the staff were friendly and professional. The prices are borderline outrageous, IMHO. $30 for a half rack of ribs, $20 for a burger.... we ordered a milkshake to go which was $8. First off it wasn't correct, second off, for $8 it was tiny. It came in what I would consider a 'kids cup'. The really crazy thing is that I know that the prices have come down.... Consider that when you think that this place is in a gas station parking lot, next the freeway, railroad tracks and adjacent to a trailer park. Unexpected gem on our 101 road trip. We happened upon Timbers as a restroom break at the gas station next door. A quick peak at the online menu was enough for all of us to agree to give it a try. So glad we did. Timbers could almost pass for a high end restaurant. Restaurant itself has a lot of unique charm. Not noisy (although wasn't super busy). Wait staff was present and tried. But had a few minor mis-steps. Examples: mixed up the salad order, offered more bread, but never brought any and mixed up the dinner order. No steak knife with the prime rib. We just passed the plates around and didn't need the extra bread in the end. Food was great overall. Prime rib was tasty but a tad chewy. The sides: mashed potatoes, vegetables and the salad all were excellent. My wife ordered the chicken, it was very tasty and cooked perfectly. The kids were satisfied with their kids meals as well. Also worth noting some small niceties... the ranch salad dressing was fantastic, the iced tea was clear and flavorful, silverware and tablecloths were clean and bathrooms were clean.. We were too full to try dessert. I will definitely aim to have Timbers Roadhouse as a stop on our next trip north. read more
