Quality Food & Quality Service This place has my recommendation based on one visit in Springtime to Northern Minnesota. A beautiful, rustic setting, excellent service, and the food was better than I expected. We ordered three sandwiches: Rueben, Italian Beef, Walleye, and also Homemade Lasagna. All delicious, all correctly made, and each was Huge! I had the Rueben but I'd order any of these next time I'm in the area. I can't forget to mention our waitservice - Nevaeh was fully attentive but not overpresent. Outstanding - she's young, but already a professional. I thought it was time for an update since there's been a couple owners since my last review. The original owners (original 25 years) sold about 5 years ago and new owners had the place about 3 years. Not impressed. They sold to a family last year and they're doing great. Added some Italian dishes to and already nice menu with steaks fish and chicken. Some nice improvements on the outside seating area too. I love the new bar area. It's got a great vibe "Everybody at the bar gettin' tipsy" and such a nice selection to choose from. "Someone pour me up a double shot of whiskey. They know me and Jack Daniels got a history". But know your limit because "One, here comes the two to the three to the four" .... This visit we had the spicy battered green beans (really good appetizer), sirloin steak sandwich (perfectly cooked sliced sirloin), and a couple cold brews. This place is a gem in Marcell. The rooms are cozy and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful and the food I. The restaurant is so good. We spent a week here visiting our daughter and son in law who weee at a rustic camp. The Timberwolf provided comfortable lodgings convenient to other amenities in town. And the restaurant has great food, daily specials and such great homemade cheesecake. Already planning to return next year again! read more

This place is fantastic! wonderful menu options. They have a salad bar as a side option and the salad bar overall is awesome! my husband always gets the combo sandwich which is an Italian sausage and Italian beef all on one bun! Me and my husband went for date night a few days ago, seeing the high reviews and things people had to say, we were very excited but it was a let down. We were disappointed when finding unwatched kids roaming around the dining room. Combined with our waitress wearing pajama pants and messy bed clip hair. She also was very uninterested in everything and really felt like she was rushing us constantly. Can't forget the loud drunk people screaming in the bar echoing into the dining area. I thought we were on the tv show (what would you do). It was that bad. Getting to the food, we got the burger special. Liked the price but the burgers were undercooked and they soaked the bun. Overall probably won't be coming back here, MUCH better options in the area. read more

It came well done which I did NOT order. Salad bar was messy and not cleaned so I had to skip that. The tap beer was watered down, and my glass was empty for half of the stay. I've been coming too this place for years now and it's so sad to see it go down. Better get your ducks in a row and fix this before you go bust. Do better. read more

Great dining in the north! We have dined here for years but had not been up since the renovations. Wow, great job! Our party of four was served by sweet Tiffany. We met her mom too, the owner stopped by to welcome & visit. Our orders were taken promptly and delivered by the time we finished or salads. Self serve salad bar included prepared pasta and broccoli salad. They had romaine not mixed greens so i was very happy. Not everyone likes arugula. I ordered chicken Parmesan. We have come to Timberwolf since it opened in 1995. We dine out often and absolutely love this restaurant! The new owners, the Ellis & Moskal Families are wonderful! The food is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING & the service is the best in northern MN...hands down. Since they took over this spring they have worked hard with improvements, projects & have created a menu that is better than any restaurant we have frequented. The quality of the food stands out! I vacation to Marcell twice a year and the Timberwolf is ALWAYS my go-to. They have the best drinks to sip out on the patio in the summer and the best food to warm up with in the winter. The new owners have absolutely turned this place around and the food is out of this world! So lucky to have this eatery in this tiny town where I was vacationing at a house on Turtle Lake. A rustic resturaunt and motel. Lovely flowers gardens and ample parking lot. We all had the great salad bar (pickled herrings included). We had walleye plates..theirs fried mine broiled. With au gratin potatoes and me onion rings. All great. Two young guys, Jared and Ryan, took ownership a bit ago and have really done a nice job. Our bartender, Jill, was terrific but needs to work on getting us winning pull tabs next time. Terrible! Terrible Terrible! Service is very, very slow and staff were inattentive. We arrived at 5:55 pm for a 6:00 pm reservation. After waiting 15 minutes for a server to take our drink order and another 10 minutes to bring them (2 beers, 4 soft drinks), it was 45 minutes after we sat down before our orders were taken. 45 minutes! The appetizer that we ordered with our drinks arrived 5 minutes after 2 of the sandwiches we ordered for meals arrived. One of our party was a child and ordered a corn dog with fries. The corn dog was still frozen in the inside. Avoid this restaurant at all costs unless you don't care about service, cold food, and and experiencing an amateurish clueless place to eat. read more

The Timberwolf Inn was a great dinner option for my family while staying in nearby Big Fork. Ownership recently changed (hadn't been before), the new owners seem to have come up with a very nice menu. There was a lot of options, which made it hard to choose! I ended up with French Onion soup (very hot and tasty) and walleye fingers with amazing peppery breading. My mom and sister split the broiled seafood plater and my dad had the blue gill sandwich. They were all happy with their selections, especially since they opted into the salad bar with fresh baked bread. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The Timberwolf had an extensive beer and cocktail selection. And a small gift shop (my mom got a cute hoodie). I'm glad we came here and will try again when we visit family next time up North! read more

Great place in northern MN. They have a few newly Remodeled hotel rooms that are way nice. They also did some landscaping work around the outside deck which makes it a very enjoyable place to sit and enjoy a nice day. Food is excellent. Make reservations for dinner on Fr or Sat. read more

The food was very good , even though it took a while to get our food given how busy they were. The reason it took so long they were very busy given it is summer and Fourth of July weekend they also only had one waitress but she did an amazing job keeping up with all the guests , highly recommend this place and hope to come back one day. read more

When traveling up to the northwoods wilderness and finding yourself hungry & thirsty, stop in at the Timberwolf Inn for great food and wonderful service. We frequent here often as this is the best bar/restaurant close to where we live. Also, during the summer, we enjoy sitting out on the outdoor deck. Every Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday, besides the regular menu, there are bar specials. J was in the mood for Tuesday's bar special of hamburger, grilled onions and onion rings (if you don't want onion rings, you can chose either French fries or tator tots). I decided to order off the menu and chose the Simply Chicken sandwich and the salad bar. I'm trying to eat healthier, so I skipped the bread and chipotle mayo. My chicken breast was a nice size (6 ounces) grilled golden brown, juicy and delicious. The salad bar consists of mixed greens with purple cabbage & shredded carrots, carrot sticks, cucumber, tomatoes, radishes, beets, shredded cheese, herring, cottage cheese, pasta salad, potato salad, 6 different kinds of homemade dressings, vinegar & oil, crackers, croutons, sunflower seeds, 3 different types of homemade bread with 2 kinds of butter. Boy, it was hard not to take a couple pieces of that homemade bread and slather it with herb butter. Besides the nightly Chef special, the menu is varied from appetizers, homemade soups, salads and salad bar, hamburgers, Chicken sandwiches, Specialty sandwiches, Entrees, combo platters, Pasta dishes, On the Lighter side dishes, and Desserts. The owners Tim & Brenda and their staff do a great job of servicing their customers and cooking delicious food. I stayed at the Inn not too long ago and had a wonderful time. The employees and owners were super friendly and accommodating they recommended things for us to do during the day! They went above and beyond in every way possible. It was a lot of fun in the summer going hiking, seeing the lakes, etc. But I can't wait to go back in fall and winter to see the leaves turn and enjoy the snow up there! read more

I've been venturing out to the big fork area for the last 5 years with my girlfriend (now wife) for vacation visits to the in laws and always hear great things about the wolf. I finally had an opportunity to have dinner here last July and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was cozy and friendly. It was a Wednesday night a it looked almost to be a full house. There was a diverse selection of beers on tap which was nice. Lots of daily specials that would get me to come back to spend a nice dinner out with the family. Wednesday was broasted chicken night and we were not disappointed. I ordered the 1/2 portion which was plenty, plenty delicious that is. Crunchy skin, juicy on the inside. We had the Friday night all-you-can-eat fish fry, too, and it was excellent! The fish was a nice Alaskan whitefish with a light batter coating - and it was served piping hot which is a big plus. If you're in the area, though, and want to check it out be sure to call for a reservation. We were almost put off by the rude treatment we received from the middle-aged hostess. She asked us if we had a reservation, and I asked her if we needed one. She replied that we did and then proceeded to ignore us. Hopefully, she was just having a bad night. We then went into the bar to eat rather than waiting 50 - 90 minutes for a table in the small eating area. The bartender/server there was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. It ended up being a great dining experience, and if we're in the area again we will definitely return. read more

I have to say my experience was not good. I ordered the chicken Oscar. When my meal came the crab was imitation crab. The chicken was smaller than a deck of cards, and the potatoes were instant. This inn quotes quiet time strictly enforced from 10 pm - 8 am. Not true. We hopped into bed, immediately our ears were accosted by extremely loud music. Called front desk, owner said he didn't hear anything. We told him to come on up to our room, sounded like the band was playing right there. He said he'd be right back. Comes back to the phone, says, "no one has ever complained about this before." oh.... so he does know about this.... We asked him to please ask people to turn it down. He said he cannot, it is a neighbor, he has no control over the neighbors. We asked to have someone go talk with the neighbor. His reply, "close the window, turn the ac on high." Beyond rude. Perhaps he could have thought to call the local police department, have them come on down and ask neighbor to quit disturbing the peace. Owner obviously cares not about his clients. Doesn't care if clients are comfortable, if the inn lives up to its "strictly enforced quiet time", nor does he care if people come back to stay at his inn. Prior to this we also requested one extra pillow. Never arrived. The owners of this place are beyond caring. Posted above on their Facebook page, they deleted it. read more
