They only do work in Squirrel Hill. The service area map is wrong. Waste of time to contact them. Person on the phone had an attitude.

Great service. Quick and efficient watch repair. Have brought some pretty obscure watches and never had any problems.

I had no difficulty making an appointment and was given very specific directions to his home. He admired my little clock, had it running smoothly in no time, and did not charge me, as he said it was a simple fix. He gave me a quick lesson in recognizing the proper tick-tock beat. His knowledge and expertise were much appreciated. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. I did, however, find him brusque and not interested in chit chat. He dismissed my attempts to understand what I may have done to cause the problem saying he was too busy. I found that a little off putting so that is why I gave four stars.

Paul diagnosed the problem and gave an estimate up front. He was able to repair the damage for less. I'd much rather an overestimate than a surprise additional charge. The 1.25 hour trip was well worth it and the scheduling of the repair was expertly handled by Judy. In consideration of the travel time, they accommodated within reason. Paul was very courteous and his knowledge is undisguisable. He reviewed the best technique to wind the clock and he gave very helpful information on how to set the clock, which was not included with the clock purchase. We will spread the word. Thank you - to both!!

Why only 2 stars? First, the reliability - I have come by this place many times on my way through this block of 8th Ave only to find them to be closed in the middle of most weekdays. I've mentioned it to others, they all thought it had closed. I imagine I know how Peter felt on Easter morning when Jesus's tomb was open, having come across this store during a time it was open. Second - The staff. We walked in, stayed for about 40 minutes, discussed many of the pieces, and even spoke about buying a few(large) pieces and not once did the woman who (owns?) worked behind the desk look up from restoring a small toy. It's one thing if you don't care to be particularly friendly(Maybe even a good thing - I walked into Mostly Mod after and couldn't get out of there in less than 30 minutes because we kept chatting), but to totally ignore potential customers is unacceptable. So I left empty handed on principal, although there were a few smaller pieces I could have been coerced into buying. Would I stop in again? If I had the option to, yes. Maybe it was a bad day, and the stuff is definitely worth looking at.

Tina told me very patronizingly, "Oh, you don't understand the process, do you? We CANNOT USE OLD SCRAP GOLD. We remove the original gold from your ring, and replace it with a brand new shank to fix the ring. WE'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 40 YEARS. WE ARE EXPERTS!" A few hours later, I called and told them I expected to receive the gold they were removing form the ring, worth about $200. They never called back. I picked up the ring. Asked for the gold they removed from the ring. Tina now said, very patronizingly, the EXACT opposite of what she said, "Oh, no, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND! We used that original gold to make the new shank!" I told her this was a blatant contradiction to what she said 48 hours ago; that they could not use old, scrap gold. Now she was saying this is exactly what they did?? Then, very nervous, she said she didn't know what her husband, Michael, had done. (!!?!?) So first, she's an expert who knows everything. When confronted with a lie she's telling, she backtracks and says now she has no idea what they're doing. Here's what they did: They cut off $200 worth of gold. Kept it. Used a new shank. And then lied to me about using it so they could keep $200 OF MY GOLD. I know. I consulted other jewelers about the process. Who also said they should return the gold to me, or reduce the price of the job. So the price of that new shank is now about $440.

I have never been totally pleased with their work, but it has been acceptable in the past. Recently, however... I took a mechanical/automatic watch for repair, was given an estimate of about 200-250, and a time frame of 10 weeks. Twelve weeks later I called to ask for the watch. I left a phone number to be called back. Three days later, I called again. Same story. Finally after the 5th attempt the watch maker called me to tell me that he had not been able to find the parts to fix the watch, that he will have to "make" them himself, and that it is going to cost me between $650-750. I retrieved the watch because it was not worth that much, and sent it to a reputable watchmaker in Cincinnati. This is cut and paste from the email I received from the Cincy watchmaker: "Sounds like he really had no interest in doing the job. I'm not aware of a single part that anyone would have to "make" for a basic 7750 like this...virtually everything is available. Some of it isn't cheap anymore, but it can be obtained. I didn't find anything obvious upon disassembly." The watch was fixed, no new parts were needed, total cost: $150. Moral: don't go there if you need a watch fixed.
