If you're someone like me who has incredibly bad hormonal acne (I mean I'm in my 20s, I thought this shit would be gone by now), I would recommend Kate's acne treatment! I'll start from the very beginning to the end of my experience. I found this deal on Groupon for $35. It was near dang impossible to set an appointment. The phone number available has no voicemail and no matter how many times I called, no one ever picked up. The website was booked when I first bought this back in October, so I had to go somewhere else. I just went today after trying to contact Timeless Beauti (or Kate the owner) yesterday (nearly 3 months after my initial Groupon purchase due to the difficulty on booking an appointment). I had the option to send an SMS message at the end of the voicemail notifying her that I was trying to call and she finally texted me back late at night. I had already placed an appointment at 12 PM for Sunday on the website already so I told her I was set. She then told me the website wasn't updated. So I'm very glad she texted me otherwise I would have driven from San Francisco to San Jose for no reason. This place is a little tricky to find, but all you need to know is that her little salon is in Suite 103. The name on the directory says Amy's Salon which was what threw me off. Once inside, it was clean and had all you need to get your nails done: tons of color options, a chair, table, and UV/LED light. Thing to know: It's $3 per nail if you want to add a design, but Kate was kind enough to charge my simple design request as $3 TOTAL for both hands. Kate herself: More talkative than other nail artists. She is from Hong Kong and got her training in Japan. Her English is great so it was very easy to communicate and she uses high quality materials from Japan. She kept saying she loved designing but the design she did on my nails were uneven after 1.5 hours of work. Additionally, I walked out of the salon in a kind of bad mood. She complained about a lot of things (not about me or what I was requesting, but just about everything else we talked about: ugly designs she's been requested that sounded innocent enough, rent prices, how I must not do housework because I had nice cuticles?) For every compliment she gave me, she said a diss. (ie. Kate: I love your makeup. Me: Thank you! I actually did it in the car haha... Kate: The eyeliner isn't even, but everything else is OK.) -_- She's just VERY honest! Made me laugh a little at the beginning but by the end I was getting worn out. In total, I spent $35 ($25 Groupon Deal + for $7 tip and $3 for design) though her regular nail rate is $35. She did a pretty good job aside from the slightly uneven design. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my nails and I still haven't found a nail artist I like in the states, but she's one of the better ones. Kate is not professional, threw a tantrum, and refused to fix a botched Gel manicure. I purchased a Groupon for a gel manicure on April 4 and made my appointment with Kate for April 5th . I didn't realize that I did not get the items advertised, no paraffin wax treatment, no cuticle trimming, no massage. I was charged $7 to remove my fingernail polish that other salons do for free. Near the end of the manicure I questioned Kate about why I was only getting a brush-on top coat (and not the thick honey constancy) hard shellac coating that all the other salons I've been to, use? Kate replied that it is not necessary. I explained that 4 of my nails have tips on them. She promised her top coat is all that is necessary and her gel would last 3-4 weeks. She even boasted about her other clients who wear gloves in water to keep their gel manicures lasting for up to 8 weeks! Only 7 days later the gel coat was starting to fray and lift near the cuticle on all my nails and at 12 days the ones with tips were lifting up. I didn't want moisture to get underneath and cause a fungus to grow so I sent Kate a message asking her to fix only the 4 nails with tips. They were lifting so bad, they were catching on my bedding and my stands of hair--minimally these needed re-gluing and to be properly sealed with the hard shellac as I originally asked about. I made an appointment yesterday. I was greeted at the door by her 8 year old daughter-and Kate was no where to be found for several minutes as I sat there with the child. Eventually Kate emerged but had an attitude almost immediately. Instead of being apologetic that I had to return she was defensive and sharp tongued. She first told me that the nail lifting was not HER fault but the fault of whoever glued the tips on! Then she told me tips don't last forever. Then she told me "EVERYONE KNOWS a gel manicure only lasts about a week and a half", then she insults the fact that I used a Groupon my telling me how unappreciative I am of the good deal she offers in a cheaper price through Groupon. Trying to remain polite, despite a barrage of rude insults, I simply suggested she amend her Groupon ad to mention that the Gel Manicure she offers is not suitable for people who have tips or that it does not include the Hard Shellac tips require-or why not charge an additional fee for the hard shellac? My suggestion seemed to infuriate Kate and she started flipping her cotton squares rather aggressively onto the tabletop. I began to be concerned about having a visibly angry person use a power tool on my nails, I tried to calm her down by kindly reassuring her, "This isn't personal, this is business and I'm just offering you some creative criticism so you don't have issues with anyone else" Kate responded loudly, "I have never any issue with any other client, only YOU!" (Which in now reading other Yelp reviews, I can see this isn't true) Kate began the grinder tool my 4 (tipped) nails and then stops in the middle of it and blurts out "you need to go back to whoever did your nails before, I am not going to complete (the repair) because I'm not responsible for someone else's work!" I replied "really? you aren't going to stand behind your own manicure?" She said "No, go to Groupon and ask for a refund, I DON'T CARE." I reiterated "so you are sending me out the door with 4 broken nails just prior to a holiday weekend and expect me to pay someone else to fix my nails because you didn't properly seal them with the right products I inquired about the day my nails were done!?" She opened the door for me to leave without answering. I responded with "you do know I will be writing a review about the poor service I received here?" She replied "Go ahead, I DON'T CARE". When I got past the door she slammed it so hard the entire building shook. All this in front of her 8 year old daughter too. She doesn't stand behind her work and uses sub-standard materials on her Groupon clients, and is too immature to handle a client who has a problem with her work. BTW- Groupon does not refund any Spa Service so I texted Kate to let her know that and asked her to have someone else in her nail spa fix my 4 nails and there was no response. I have requested a refund through my credit card company. edited notes responding to Kate comments below: The attached photos are of my nails taken about 4 PM yesterday after my 2 PM appointment with Kate at Timelessbeauti-see embedded time and date stamp. The $7 extra I paid to Kate was to remove the hard shellac manicure from the prior nail salon and she ground off down to my natural nail with a power tool(but 4 were tips). Kate is very devoted, skilled and she is VERY good at what she does! Since I moved to California, 3 years ago, I started getting lots of breakouts like never before, as a teenager I never had breakouts and I didn't imagine it will be a struggle in my 30s..for 3 years I tried everything, over the shelf treatments, long dedicated treatment programs like proactive (which was an epic fail BTW), dermatologists prescribed chemical cleansers, hormonal pills, etc..all sort of awful things I have tried for long and I would still breakout at least everyday or even get a few breakouts per day, leaving acne scars behind and driving me nuts. I started seeing Kate 4 months ago, and my life literally changed.. I have done facials before, and even at places that charge you double what Kate charges, but never like her facial..every time Kate will spend between an hour and an hour an half, she takes her time and she is very skilled. After the first time I did facial in November, my face started breaking out like 60% less, I started seeing Kate every 2-3weeks and now 4 months later, I barely breakout, and if I do, the breakouts are very rare in time, and almost unnoticeable unlike the big red acne's I used to get, and most importantly wouldn't leave a terrible scar after.
