This review is for the plate lunch counter. On my recent visit, I wondered why there was not the usual long line for plate lunches... Quickly figured out it's likely due to the triple whammy. TLDR: Plates now include 1 less side, side choices decreased from 8 to 4 & price increased. Service: 4* The 2* for the significant shrinkflation. Before: Plate lunches included 3 sides. Now: 2 sides. Before: Side choices: White Rice, Brown Rice, Potato Mac Salad, Creamy Mashed Potatoes, Potato Wedges, Steamed Mixed Vegetables, Okinawan Sweet Potatoes and Green Salad. Now: Side choices: White Rice, Potato Mac Salad, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and Green Salad My favorite sides were: Potato Wedges, Steamed Mixed Vegetables, & Okinawan Sweet Potatoes (which were never available when I went) My 1st choice of the current sides is Garlic Mashed Potatoes, & there were none. Grilled Steak plate was $12.99, now $13.49 Garlic Shrimp plate was $12.99, now $14.99 Sad how the current times are significantly negatively impacting food. read more

I haven't lived on the Eastside for many years so I don't come to this location much anymore and am surprised at some of the changes that were made. Parking is still, NOT an issue. Though the market is busy, people are coming and going so waiting for a stall to open up is minimal or non-existent. There are a lot of gift giving products as well as Kadomatsu for the New Year. New Asian products are displayed throughout the store, in the center of the aisles. Came today to pick up lunch for mom. The sushi area is quite extensive with a few refrigerated sections well stocked with a wide variety of sushi. The plate lunch counter was a little busy, so it gave me time to look over the menu and food. I love the mashed potatoes so I got a double order. I opted for the pot roast. Simply wonderful as I don't make this at home. I asked if there was wine in the sauce BEFORE I ordered.( Some places do use wine but don't cook it off so the flavor is very pronounced. Blech! Mom & I had a wonderful lunch though the freshly roasted sweet potatoes were sold out. I was able to pick up a few more last minute gifts while I was there. Still a great market with a hometown vibe. Reviewing pie First time seeing whole Times pie on 12/28/25. Eating it on 12/30, left sitting outside cuz I forgot about it. Crust stayed delish! Tasted like Sunnyside but made with Crisco (but actually made with just oil), as it was crispier and little thicker... Bought the peach pie for only 6.99! Had pumpkin pie and blueberry pie also on that day. Not sure what other whole pies they make. I shop at this Times often but never seen these before. This is a review of their takeout lunch counter only. Used to come here at least once if not twice a week for the good food and good portions. Truly was a value. However, their prices understandably have gone up but they no longer give you three sides for the price. These two facts have led us to not come here as often and seeing the lines reflects the same. We'll be back, but only for the occasional take out lunch. No longer a value and on our regular spots. read more

Friday October 4, 2025 I went in to buy a case of bottled that was $7.99. My total was $106.00??!! Lol. Also, extra of I picked up 1 pound of Hawaiian Style Poke and 1/2 a pound of Hawaiian Style Dried Aku, 3 pounds of Envy Apples, 3 pounds of Okinawan Sweet Potatoes, Mucinex, a tray of Ikura Sushi, Hydrogen Peroxide and I think that was it. The longer I stay in the store. The more I see and the more I buy. Lol. One trip to Times instead of many times is cheaper. Lol. That's okay. I find most of the stuff in 1 store. Convenient and saves TIME. I will continue to shop here as it's down the street from where I live and on the way after work then I can head to go home. I love this place! read more

I love the food selection in this super market. The sushi looks good in quality and actually pretty cheap. The seafood is air shipped from Japan . They also have many desert options I was tempted to buy. Everything looks really good and well worth it. The only thing I found interesting was their section organizing, as they had a breakfast section with both maple syrup and those challenge fruit jellies. It's a good place, 9/10. read more

Why did they discontinue the ono mixed steam vegetables. It was the best side dish. And now they only have mash, Mac salad and toss and you can only have one of these cause you have to get two rice. Less choice and higher price. Good is still good though. read more

When a supermarket is just that and not a whole complex where it's a journey and a half just to get a single item and that's the reason for this visit...well two items, a red onion and cilantro. Having a task at work it was something that I had to have an since I was in the Kahala Mall I decided on Whole Foods for convenience and was surprised of the prices and thought to go elsewhere since price was something I didn't want to compromise and was shocked to see it was no difference here as well and decided to just get it. Walking up and down the aisle since I'm here it's nice to see nothing really much has changed and though the layout and aisle is a bit narrow than the more updated places this piece of nostalgia is nice as it's well organized and clean...my onion was bad btw which was disappointing but it was my choice. I am a Senior and used to enjoy the plate lunch at Times, 3 maybe 4 times a week...then the service starting dropping rude and not caring, then they raised the price 3 dollars, then they decide to remove a side and allow only two, now they want a extra dollar if you want two scoops of potatoes What is wrong with Times they used to be the go to for locals.Now they are the worst !! Times Kahala is my second favorite location to come to for a bunch of reasons to be honest I think the selection is bigger compared to most times and it has more of a specialty feel with all of the Asian snacks and drinks this location has. Also they have a bigger plate lunch counter with plates like tonkatsu curry and bentos and bakery. The Frozen section has a bunch of stuff my normal times doesn't have but it's also not far away if I need to come here. They also have a bigger selection of Asian frozen veggies/ meats/ seafood. Produce always looks fresh and well stocked and poke counter has a couple different flavors then my normal spot as well. The workers are equally as friendly and have helped me out on many occasions. I think this Times location is definitely more of a benefit if you're a tourist looking for Hawaii or Asian treats to take back home from your trip. read more

I always thought that all grocery stores are the same but apparently some offer better value shopping with them. Thank you to my friends who shared that with me recently! Saving a dollar or two here and there means more pho or a few more drinks to enjoy lol. Even the same grocery store chain at different locations offer location specific things too. Who would have thought? This Times Supermarket is located in Kahala off the Waialae exit on the right after the first traffic light. There's lots of parking in their lot but they are on the more narrow side. Watch out for the ding fairy. We noticed this location offers larger imo compared to the Kaimuki location so we try to buy imo from this Times. Also, they have a more diverse yakiniku meat selection. Sometimes a combo tray is offered which is nice. The cooked food section is good and they offer deals for the plate lunches. Their menu is available online for daily specials. Customer service at this location is hit or miss. Although the store itself is on the older side and could use a refresh, this is definitely one of the better grocery store options in the area. read more

My daughter and I wanted to get some food from here before heading home. The intersection to turn at is fairly busy but we managed to find a parking spot. It's a small parking lot in front of the business. They have your typical food but my daughter got the poke bowl. It was pretty good. My daughter couldn't finish it but gave the rest to me but it was a lot. I ended up getting some cookies by Keebler. Similar to the girl scout cookies called Samoa"s. They were on sale and delicious. I think my daughter and I finished the whole pack. Lol We also grabbed some drinks to go as well. Prices are almost similar to Safeway. The inside was neat and organized. I think this location had self checkout if I remember. It was fast and easy. A lot of people stop by here to grab food and drinks. It's really close to Kahala mall which I liked. This review is for B. Chun the self check out employee. We were ready to check out, and we saw the "Cash Only" register and another register open. Mr. B. Chun was wiping down ANOTHER check out station, so we opted to go to the station he just cleaned. While we were scanning our items, he tells us "You know there's a line back there! This gentleman was in the line waiting." Um...sorry, but like I said, there was the "Cash Only" AND ANOTHER station available, PLUS the one he just cleaned!! So all in all, there were THREE stations available to check out, and there were 2 customers! Also, when we went to check out, we didn't see anyone waiting! I just bought some items at the self check out. Forgot my bag in the car. I was planning to use the basket to help me carry items & return it as I do sometimes. Usually I don't get any problems. I actually didn't know that wasn't allowed,... now I know! Sorry! But I feel like the guy working at the self check out could have been more kind about it. I set the basket up on the top shelf. He came from behind me, reached around me to grab the basket & roughly/rudely placed it behind the register, telling me where to correctly put the basket. There was definitely attitude to that gesture. I kindly responded that I was just going to use it for my groceries. He then told me my options. Which, the options makes sense. Duh. I just haven't been told that before so now I know the correct thing to do. He just kind of treated me like he was annoyed at me, & maybe he was because he's tired of others doing the same thing. I just got him at the wrong time when he was irritated so he took it out on me. But he didn't have to assume & speak to me the way that he did or grab the basket like he did. It was pretty rude when he could have just nicely told me what I needed to do. I gave no issues, because I was wrong. He just had to tell me instead of snatching the basket. I now understand & maybe it's common sense but I've just never been corrected on that before since it's only occasional that I forget my bag. & of course I could just buy one , but I didn't need to when I could just put it in my bag in the car & I could carry it. That small action he did & tone of voice was just uncalled for when a conversation would have sufficed. I feel like he went in my space reaching over me like that & it was a bit shocking to me. But I understand he probably deals with that on a daily basis, so he was just annoyed when he saw me put my basket on the top shelf. He was the young Asian guy with the longer black hair & tied up , working the self check out this afternoon. I think it's just a reminder to be more kind. I worked retail for years & I understand the frustrations with certain customers. But we can't treat all the customers like they are purposefully trying to irritate employees. A gentle reminder , without reaching into someone's space should suffice. If it doesn't.... then that's a different story! read more

I've been coming to Times recently for some items because our closest grocery store is Safeway and sometimes they don't have the Asian ingredients needed for some of our dinners. Times has a lot of local variety and Asian seasonings and vegetables. I recently went here because I'm so last minute with this whole Halloween thing. I wanted to get pumpkins and many places were sold out. I called Times and they said they had, so I rushed down there. They had quite a few. Everytime I go there though, it's so crowded. It's definitely not social distancing. The aisles are so narrow and people are crossing paths and right next to each other very often. They do have arrows on the ground for which line goes to which but it's a little confusing because the aisles don't match up to the check out lines. So it's almost like a diagonal arrow to the checkout. I do like that they have weekend specials. I get the email every week of what they have on special. I also like that they do fun pop ups. I've tried their puffs and it's pretty good but rich. read more

I've been shopping at the Kahala Times Supermarket more in recent months........probably due to my Covid-19 exercise routine, as this supermarket store location isn't too far from where I've been loggin' my miles, since da gym has been closed. A few things I like about this place - 1. Safety during the Covid-19 Pandemic........Times has done a wonderful job in providing a safe clean environment for the shopper. I see a clerk who is stationed outside of the store, and the clerk's responsibility is to constantly wipes down all the shopping carts with a special disinfectant cleaner. Also, the floors by the checkout stand are marked to promote proper social distancing for the customers. 2. The Kahala store is spacious! Normally my goto Times location is the Kaimuki store, but that store is pretty cramped compared to the Kahala store. 3. This Supermarket location has a separate Bakery within the store, should you wanna buy some special bakery item. The bakery is called - Bakery & Table. 4. Tons of parking! No need worry about fighting for a parking spot as the parking lot is HUGE! Of course I mostly shop at night, so I don't see how the parking is during the daytime, as I've read other Yeeps expressing issues with the parking lot. 5. If you need gas, or you have to get some laundry done, Texaco & Al Phillips the Cleaner is just adjacent to this Times Supermarket branch. 6. If you like DEALAGES (like Bruddah Fran does), look for the Times Supermarket - "Electronic Coupon Weekend Specials!" Just save the electronic coupon to your phone, and take advantage of da unreal dealages that run from Friday to Sunday! Just a tip.........go early, because if it's a unreal deal, garans gonna run out fast! Best bet is to bum rush 'em on Friday!!!! Lol! And there you have it gang........... I've always heard about Times' Supermarket's steak plates but you should check out their online plate lunch schedule. It's amazing. Today I tried the Beef Hamburger Steak plate. Huge hamburger patty loaded with mushrooms and onions (if you like them!) and generous ladle of brown gravy. Three (yes, really!) sides. There are mashed potatoes, tossed salad, macaroni salad, rice and mixed vegetables. You can mix and match any three. For example, you could do three sides of tossed salad if you are on a low carb diet. Server also thoughtfully asked if I wanted my tossed salad in a separate container. Times Kahala and I go waaaay back. From small kid time this was our family's supermarket of choice. From the Teruya Brothers to mainland owners and now Don Quixote, the ownership has changed over the decades but they still have that same great service and offerings. Their ready made offerings are quite good and pretty consistent. We like their turkey plates in particular. Taking a page from Don Quixote, they make spicy ahi pocket Inari bombs which are really good. A nice neighborhood supermarket with lots of parking, friendly service and prepared Kau Kau too. Times Kahala over the years has not lost their neighborhood service roots a great place to visit for your supermarket shopping. read more

Sometimes it's just so awesome to find a good deal on groceries in Hawaii. It's not often that you can save some money on the islands. I'm super grateful that times has these deals but sometimes it's a pain to show the cut out coupons and your phone. Make sure that you sign up for the weekend deals!!! Every week times emails out their Friday Saturday Sunday weekend deals! All you need to do is have the cashier scan the barcode and you get the price (unAdvertised in store). Make sure you read the limits, if it's a really good deal it'll most likely have a deal! $2 for white mushrooms! Also make sure you cut your coupons from their ad, they have no membership/ reward card but they run coupons in their weekly ad and if you don't cut it out and give it to the cashier you won't get the price advertised. When you shop it doesn't even show you the coupon price. $5.99 reg price, $4.99 coupon cut out price for bone in inch thick ka Somehow we lucked out today 5 lb box of chicken thighs $4.99 and when the web barcode was scanned it took another $1 off the box, $3.99 what a score..... chicken for days now lol ***4/15/20 update*** They carry KETO Bread! read more

Surprising updated looking Times. On this side of the island near Kaimuki and Kahala we have a lot of grocery stores to choose from. Times has probably been here the longest, at least it seems that way, because it used to always used to look old and needing a facelift. Today however I went to pick up a hard to fill prescription at Times Pharmacy. They were great, quickly filled the order after trying Costco and Longs and failing to fill. The Technician was friendly and the pharmacist was somewhat helpful to answer my questions regarding administration of the med. I will probably use this pharmacy in the future. They get a 5 star on this day :). I haven't been to the store since the start of covid, so maybe late 2020? I was in a pinch for some spices prior to thanksgiving. Again it seem outdated at that time. Today, the floors had a multi-color pattern with wood tiles creating borders similar to Wholefoods and the new Foodland across the street. Lighting is much brighter and make the store seem cleaner. They even have self checkout, a major plus! Overall I'm very impressed with the new look and will stop by again for the pharmacy and maybe try some of the lunch options here in the store. I wish the prices for everyday items were slightly better. Even the sale prices seem higher than everyday items at Wholefoods and Safeway. read more

OMG.... I am so lucky that this is my local market (along with Kahala Mkt by Foodland across the street .. and forget about the other one in 'Da Mall' owned by Amazon with really unhappy workers who make you unhappy too when you visit...). I was in earlier this week and noticed that they had local HI Niihau lamb in the meat section. This is INCREDIBLY high quality lamb, and the rarest of the rarest. Folks on the mainland mostly have never heard about this product or knew there was another island besides the big 4/5. This lamb is the BEST! I went to Times this AM and could not find the ground Niihau lamb that I needed for my Jiaozi (鍋貼) that I was craving. I asked for assistance for finding this lamb and was told to wait a few minutes while they ground up a special batch for me.. WOW! I just love this store and the so helpful and happy staff.. This is located on the right hand side at the 1st intersection as you are coming off the freeway east bound. By the looks of it on the outside, this must be an older location. As soon as I walked in, I noticed it was very small and the way it is setup was very weird. I did like the fact this location had a lot of self check out. I grabbed pasta to eat and don't notice anyone in the deli so as I finished paying for my items at the self checkout register, I asked if there were any utensils available and I was told I could get one at the register. I was a little shocked and annoyed because all the registers were busy with customers and no effort from the employee to try and retrieve one for me. At least I now know where I can get one in the future. read more

Whenever I need to go to Times Supermarket, I always save it for last, or save for when I'm heading back east on the H1. There are five to six Times I could go to: Kalihi, Liliha, Beretania, McCully, Kaimuki, or Kahala. I do miss the Niu Valley one! All these TImes are close to, or on the way to the H1 on- and off-ramps. Other than Liliha, Kahala is the most convenient Times. You just take the Waialae Ave off ramp to Kahala Mall, and it's right there on 21st Ave. After finishing shopping, you can hop right back onto the H1-West or continue East onto Kalanianaole. This Kahala Times Supermarket has everything you need: a pharmacy, a bank, bakery, purified water refill machines, sushi, plate lunches, etc. Inside, everything is clean and organized. The staff is friendly and quick checkout. Its meat selection offers a wider variety compared to other Times. Lastly, it usually has good deals on produce. I came here to buy Envy Apples, and they were all fresh and beautiful! I didn't even need to forage around for the best ones! The only issues I have with this Times are the tight aisles and the small, oddly configured parking lot. When it's busy, it can be frustrating looking and waiting for parking and waiting in the checkout lines. Though, I feel like most of the Times Supermarket have these issues. Overall, Kahala Times offers the best convenience, but I regret it sometimes when there's a super long line from the off-ramp. Other than that, it's an easy in and out. read more
