Had just gotten home from a trip and stopped by to pick up some furikake. As normal I ended up picking up several other items. Took my stuff to the register. Paid. And then was accosted by one of the employees who it appeared was 'guarding' the exit door. She said that I couldn't leave with my items. I asked why not and I was informed that I had could not leave with the items I had. I showed her the receipt and again asked why. She again told me those items were not to leave the store. ?!?!?!? I wasn't feeling well and $30 worth of items wasn't worth it spend half an hour to call the manager over to trying to sort out. IDK if they thought I was a thief or whatever. (FYI: I'm a middle aged man who dresses decently. aka - I don't dress or carry myself like a high school thug.) I put the items with my receipt on the floor by the exit door in front of the accosting employee and left. It just wasn't worth the hassle. But I can't say I want to return. Shopping in Kaimuki, Honolulu, Hawaii... My friend was looking for the Lychee Lemonade drink... it comes in a carton and is made by Meadow Gold. I had never heard of it, but... what do I know? Anyway, it was sold out. This location of Times Supermarket is on the lower level of the Kaimuki Shopping Center. It's under Longs Drugs Store and the Hawaii State Federal Credit Union. There's no pharmacy here, but there is self-checkout stations as well as regular cashiers for your transactions. It's cozy and convenient. I appreciate the free, covered parking! read more

Just started regularly heading to Times' hot food station for some tasty plate lunches. I don't like lines but I was too curious to just pass by and had to ask the folks, why the long line at a supermarket food station. People in line seemed excited about the grilled steak and I noticed that people were ordering several at a time. Well, I had to try it and it was quite good. The pricing was great for the portion and with a plate, you also get 3 sides and a pepsi. It seems like most of the menu changes daily. Keeping it local... Located on the lower level of Kaimuki Shopping Center, Times Supermarket really does keep it local though this location has been here for as forever that I know and don't know anyone else that's been here, with that the size isn't super and you do feel the age as soon as you walk in though they do keep it clean and nicely organized. Famously known for their plate lunch and the station is right at the entrance though I had to keep my focus because I was looking to make versus spending money on "takeout" dinner and shopped around for some inspiration, they do have a large frozen area though I felt a bit overwhelmed browsing it all and didn't really like how it's displayed and just kept going, th seafood area didn't wow me so I continued on to the produce where I see a bag of eggplants for $2.49 for one and a half pound it was a great deal. Looking at it it's obvious is the "outlet" version of the slightly imperfectly grown and at about 0.75 each making it for dinner three times is the budget friendly deal. They do have the self checkout though it's all closed and with just two checkouts the line got long and forcing us to wait in the aisles, parking is easy with making it a great place to stop by for a quick shopping trip and keeping it local. Recently visited the deli food counter at the Times Supermarket in Kaimuki. Highly recommend this store location for its cleanliness and remarkable and friendly staff. The two local gentlemen, Robert and Curtis, were extremely friendly and awesome during our brief interaction. Looking forward in making this my number one destination on a Saturday morning visit for their delicious corned beef and cabbage. Glad that this deli still carries my favorite entrée selection. Honestly this Times is probably my go to for grocery shopping and also the plate lunches. I'll focus on a couple of things, firstly the plate lunches I have my go toos here Tuesdays they have the steak plates and they pack it on this ain't your little portions also they have either Crab Stuffed Pollock (delicious) or Baked Salmon (also very good) I love the fact you get 3 sides and a drink also in my opinion this times has really good sides Mashed potatoes, brown rice, white rice, wedges, mixed veggies, Okinawan sweet potato, toss salad, Mac salad, and sometimes corn. The people behind the deli counter are super friendly as is the staff in store (maybe it's just cuz I go so much).. the guys behind the poke counter equally as nice and I gotta say I've warmed up to Times poke they do have some good flavors one of my favorites is "Broke Da Mouth" that's the name of the poke but also describes the taste. Sometimes the parking lot can be packed but honestly inside doesn't seem that packed. I've been coming here since I was a little kid and I'm 35 now and I'll continue to come here based on the service and the selection they carry. read more

As I'm lucky enough to have access to the military commissaries for my bigger supermarket purchases, I go to local supermarkets for primarily produce. Times and especially Times Kaimuki is one of my go-to supermarkets for produce. Times just seems to have an 'in' and consistently has very fresh produce, especially lettuce! And they market things a little bit differently, selling the produce by pound as opposed to the majority of supermarkets who sell by the head. It makes a difference, especially as it gets older and the wilting lettuce is stripped off. Selling it by the head stripped by 1/4 or 1/3 for the same price as a fresh head is deceptive, and I'm glad Times doesn't follow that practice! Times Kaimuki also has a great hot food section with some of the best supermarket fried chicken! Other supermarkets keep their fried chicken warm with warming lamps, which can dry out the chicken if it's under for a while. Times using steamer trays, which keeps the chicken crispy yet moist. The entrees are on a regular rotation- but they taste good, have a reasonable price, and until they sell out there's always a few entrees to choose from. Times Kaimuki is one of my favorite neighborhood supermarkets, will repeat and highly recommend! read more

I'm super impressed with their produce section! The best I've seen in years. Cheers to whoever is managing that, it is so clean, well stocked and organized, and the produce is fresh! There is nothing like this anywhere on the east side, where you will find dirty displays less than half filled with moldy fruit, wilted lettuce sitting in slime, and onions covered in fruit flies. The fresh fish section is also cleaned well.. a huge difference from the ones at other locations and chains where the whole area reeks of bad fish. It's SO COLD in this store, which must help with the freshness! Dress warm or shop fast lol I was reading all the signage and looking at the food at the plate lunch counter, three cooks saw me and didn't attempt to say anything or ask if I needed help. No other customers waiting or being helped. I would have asked a question or two if someone had offered but I just left instead. Whatevs My least favorite part about this location is the parking and shopping cart corrals.. both seem dingy, kinda dangerous and not well thought out, especially with road-raging dbags ready to run you down. read more

We love this location! We live in Kailua, and when we saw the hot bar here we were soooo impressed! The plate lunch selection changes from day to day, but the choices are awesome. We chose a plate with 2 sides. The guys at the counter were really nice and helpful. They have a really nice bento selection. Again, prices were reasonable. The cashiers and customer service is always on point. I love coming to this location. Parking under cover can get crowded, but usually you can find something even though it might be in the sun. read more

I recently went to Times Kaimuki and brought a hot plate. I noticed the sign posted that changes will be in effect? The roast beef I brought was really bad, it was dry and the guy behind the counter pour what seemed to be gravy but in my option? It was just oil. The prices has gone up a few dollars. Let me just say that it starts with management. Management these days don't know what they are doing. I don't mind paying a little more and still get a decent amount of quantity? Now you only got two sides and French fries is not consider a side anymore. I don't see paying $13.50 and getting what they serve? Let's all wake up and move on? Times is not worth the hot plates anymore. I am done with Times and will take my business else where. There are other places where you can pay $13 and get more for your money. It's a management decision. The managers at times are not the most qualified people for said positions. read more

Some of the great reviews for this Kaimuki times are actually for the Kahala times. I prefer the kahala times over this one. They have a bakery and their prepared food bar is open in the morning, serving breakfast foods. This kaimuki times doesn't have a bakery, and their deli doesn't open until 11am. This times is convenient for me. The parking lot is weird and can get crowded, but if you go during non rush times it's ok. I usually pick up produce that is on sale, or meat or poke or chips. I like shopping for sale items at any grocery store, but unlike Foodland, which has very straightforward ads, times makes you bring in coupons. They email coupons, but you need to print them out. The last time I was here pretty late at night, maybe around 9pm, there was hardly anyone in the store. I had 14 items and since all the check out lines were empty, I thought I could check out in the express line. The lady working the register gave me attitude and made me move to one of the other empty lines. Whatever, times doesn't want my business, I'll go to market city foodland instead. read more

He is full of valuable information of "ONO grindages" and "DEALAGES Yo!". And, his entertaining way of expressing "deeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious!" Trivia: How many "e's" in between? So, on the very next day I was on the road on assignment and on the way back to my office I drove to Times Supermarket in Kahala to try out this fried chicken. But when looking up, I noticed they are $2.29 per piece. Wait a minute, in Fran C.'s post, he has them at $1.69 each and immediately realized Kahala is more expensive. So, the Chinese in me walked out and drove over to Kaimuki Times. Upon arrival, I noticed the price at $1.69 per piece. Yes, this is what my mouth has been watering for. I anxiously waited in line for my turn. Apparently, Times Supermarket is known for their reasonable plate lunches and hot entrée specials that bring people over during peak hours. While waiting, I spied on the lady in front of me buying guava spare ribs. I looked up to the sign and a side order is only $5.49. When it was my turn, I asked for 2 pieces of hand dipped fried chicken and also a side of the guava ribs. The verdict - - fried chicken is LEGIT folks. Large chicken thighs used and deep fried just right for the crispy skin and exterior. Plump and juicy. The only setback was it sat in the warmer for a bit so it wasn't piping hot, the way I enjoy my fried chicken. But a great deal at $1.69 per piece. The chicken was so good that I went back the very next day and this time bought 3 pieces to share with my sister. The guava ribs were also very yummy. Lots of meat. Juicy. Tender. Generous portion. This is only available on certain days so I highly recommend you to check online or call ahead. Kaimuki Times is located on the lower level of Kaimuki Shopping Center with noticeable neighbors such as Long's, The Cookie Corner and American Savings Bank. Lots of shared parking on both levels so if you're looking for cheap eats and enjoy fried chicken, make your way over to Times Supermarket. Redemption. For those of you old enough to remember going to the Gold Bond Building at 677 Ala Moana Blvd to turn in your books of Gold Bond stamps in one of Hawaii's first customer loyalty programs, I'm not talking about that usage of the word. I am talking about the restoration of a reputation. In this case, the reputation is that of Soup House, a vendor which sells Korean banchan (side dishes) in Times Kaimuki. For those who read my earlier review, I directed some harsh words at Soup House. Since then, I have picked up Korean sushi, radish shreds kimchi, and daikon kimchi on at least 5 separate occasions, and now have nothing but praise for this vendor. On the occasions I retried the Korean sushi, it had a much tighter roll, and did not fall apart like it did the first time. Korean sushi has a much lighter taste than Japanese sushi being flavored with sesame oil as opposed to the acetic kick of Japanese sushi. Note that I am referencing makizushi and not the sliced fish on a fingerling of rice type sushi (nigiri). Another distinction is that the ratio of rice to internal ingredients is 2 to 1 for Japanese sushi vs. 1 to 2 for Korean sushi. And interestingly, the Korean sushi is wrapped with kim (seaweed or nori) starting around the internal ingredients and then around the rice so the nori spirals around the roll. For Japanese sushi, the nori only surrounds the rice. So with Korean sushi, you can really taste the internal ingredients (carrots, burdock, spinach, etc.), but with Japanese sushi, you mostly taste the vinegared rice. On occasions I have purchased both radish shreds kimchi and daikon kimchi. To the casual observer this would seem redundant because they are both daikon radish, one in julienne strips and the other in 1/2 inch cubes, both with spicy red sauce, but they have different flavor profiles. The radish shreds kimchi has a much more pronounced vinegar flavor, as opposed to the daikon kimchi which has a sweeter taste. Both are excellent. I am not dissing the Japanese cuisine of my heritage; comparing them is like comparing Harry Chapin and Steely Dan. They are incomparable and both are excellent !! read more

Very clean Times location. It's about a 10 minute drive from downtown and has its own parking garage. Pay attention to your GPS because it's easy to miss the small driveway to turn in. I will never get tired of raving about the Poke station at all the Times Supermarkets I have been to. The flavors are just intense and they are never shady with toppings. I picked up a couple pounds of Shoyu and Ahi Limu. I'm just in love. You can find everything you need here -- from hot lunches to fresh ingredients to cook your own meal -- there is something for everyone. read more

I find this Times Supermarket a little dark and dank and in need of some renovations. I believe it's been exactly the same since I frequented here when I was a kid. The only reason I like coming here is the covered parking so my car and I can avoid the elements, but the parking is small and pretty tight, and it can get super humid on those hot days. The carts are collected in odd places, and the parking feels like it's slightly slanted. But hey, it's in the shade! The inside of Times Supermarket has gone through some renovations inside in recent year to make it more new and clean, especially the produce and seafood sections. The staff here are friendly and always happy to help, and they rarely run out of on sale items. It's convenient to get to this Times. The store is between 4th and 5th Avenue along Waialae Ave. There's a Longs Drugs above it, and a few small restaurants. I remember the Columbia Inn here! Ah, those were the days! Parking lot is shared by a couple of business. It is like across from Kahala Mall. In front of store by entrance, customers can pick up the weekly sales ad and get coupons if they forget it at home. I come to this location after I go to Kahala Mall. They have 2 business that are inside, Shige and Bakery Table. Store has their own bakery where they make sorts of pastries and other stuffs. Taste of Times has the most affordable plates with daily menu. My favorite is spicy ahi fresh poke and shoyu poke. I usually buy 1/2 lb of each for my weekend snack. Ahi melts is your mouth when it is fresh. The employees are friendly. read more

Pros: you feel like you might be supporting local businesses. Cons: 1. It is a regular occurence that they will advertise one price, and charge you full price at the register. 2. They will never apologize once you bring it to their attention (guess they left their aloha at home) 3. They might, like today, accuse you of having the wrong item. 4. Then, once they see that THEY in fact had it entered wrong, they will reimburse you the mistake. Notes: They have NO incentive to fix this. If you catch their mistake, they will refund the difference. They have an accusatory attitude. Ask yourself: am I supporting the business by having to revisit them so they can remedy their errors, or am I supporting them by paying full retail for items they entice you to buy with "sale" prices? I have to say that although I have experienced this multiple times at this store, it has only been at this Times and not the one on King Street. I'm guessing it all starts with management, and trickles down to the staff. Review is regarding their Plate Lunch specifically the 'Hawaiian plate' slop that was served on 01/19/24. I ordered the laulau-kalua pig combo about 10:40 am. The haupia and sweet potato sides was not available so I chose 2 scoops extra rice as substitutes. The laulau was cold and greasy and apparently wasn't steamed at all. The long rice was also cold and tasteless with only one 1/2" square of rubbery 'chicken' in the water and nothing else - it was inedible. The lomi salmon was passable. The only thing they got right was the rice because how can you not screw that up? Were paying $15.00 for this cr**! I won't be returning ever again. Hey guys do yourself a favor and avoid their 'Hawaiian' plate lunch and instead go to St. Louis D.I. down the road for your Hawaiian plate fix (Fridays only), they know how to cook and properly steam food. read more

A local grocery powerhouse, Times Supermarket is always reliable for everyday needs. Though all stores are great, the Kaimuki location is one of my family's favorites. Occupying a good majority of the lower portion of Kaimuki Shopping Center, you'll find plenty of covered parking stalls. If for any reason there isn't parking available, you can also head up a level to park near Longs Drugs right above. I always check the sales ad and coupons online for deals that week, and if you sign up for their email list, they send out weekend exclusive prices on a few items. When redeeming the coupon prices on their sales ad, make sure to pull up the barcode on your phone or have physical printed coupon for scanning at checkout. The one barcode is good for all deals. I've found most cashiers won't mention you have a coupon eligible item on the belt. A few weeks ago I made a visit to this location and had the most pleasant shopping experience! I was looking for red chili pepper flakes in the spice section, but was only able to find one brand in a glass jar. The more affordable brand, in a plastic jar, had an empty rack, but with a price of $1.25 less than the other brand, I wanted to make sure they were truly out of stock before I spent the extra. I asked a cashier for assistance and she quickly paged a stock associate to come to my aid. Robert took a look at the selection on the shelf and told me he'd check the stockroom. After about 5 minutes, I was convinced they were all out and I was prepared to splurge on the glass jar, BUT Robert came around the corner and told me he might have something for me. He then made a quick stop to the service counter where he scanned the item in hand, and I swear I heard him say "no way!" and came back my way. Turns out he found a totally different brand in a much larger container (shelf had the label but was empty and located on the very bottom, so I hadn't seen it) for less than the affordable brand! His exclamation was in response to the price difference, he had to make sure before delivering the news to me. Love me local Kaimuki Times, everyone here seems like family to me as I walk through these doors (sometimes in my pajamas) to pick-up some milk, ice cream, and prepared food. This review is specifically for their Creme Puffs - they've been doing pop up stores at different locations through out the pandemic. I stumbled in one day and decided to try their Taro and Green Tea flavors. Unfortunately, it was a little disappointing for me. It looked better than it tasted, the dough just wasn't fresh or soft enough for my taste. Both cremes were good, but I think the taro could do with a tad bit more flavor. But note - this is me comparing it to something like Liliha Bakery who is known for them cream and coco puffs. read more

My five star ratings for Times Kaimuki I went there to takeout and ordered the Mushroom Chicken plate. The service is great and they have about 4 - 5 selections for the plate lunches. The Mushroom chicken was good and comes with three sides and a free soda. Their layout is awesome not like some of the other locations. They also double plate your order with foil underneath the first plate then wrapping your plate with cello. Each carton is so thin that most places that uses these plates, the plates gets really soggy. Great job from the crew at Times Kaimuki. read more
