Buffalo Cauliflower and Cilantro Lime Shrimp Tacos

This food truck is great! The food is top notch and always fresh! Their menu has a variety of options that can work for everyone and all types of diets - tacos, sliders, nachos, etc. They are located at various breweries, so the foods go perfect with beer/drinks! They are always very helpful in making food choices. They also accept cash and card, which is super convenient nowadays! If you see them at a brewery near you, try them out!

Portion sizes are small for the price. Food takes 15 minutes to come out. We tried the Chipotle chicken quesadilla, pork carnitas quesadilla, and chips and salsa. Each quesadilla is $7.50 for three triangles and a side of sou. The chipotle chicken was better than the pork carnitas. Chips and salsa were ok. They ran out of their usual salsa so they substituted with a green salsa.

Tin Kitchen is a food truck that I have repeatedly seen at breweries (Noda and Sycamore, just to name a few) but never felt compelled to try. That all ended one Sunday Funday when I found myself hungry and perched at Sycamore. Since they were conveniently located on site, I decided it would be as good as any time to finally try them. I placed my order for the buffalo cauliflower and lime shrimp tacos. I was then shocked when I heard my name called about two minutes later letting me know it was ready. I raced back to my seat and dove into the cauliflower taco. I was underwhelmed. All I could taste was buffalo sauce (that tasted like some of the mediocre bottled stuff) and nothing else. Maybe if they consider roasting the cauliflower beforehand, it would enhance the taste. The bleu cheese crumbles added absolutely nothing. I would suggest they make those thicker pieces. The cilantro-lime shrimp tacos were okay. I found the cilantro lime aioli to be watery and lacking real flavor. Nothing memorable about these at all. I think there definitely needs to be something with more of a substantial crunch on these tacos. Tin Kitchen regularly pops up in my business park so I figured I would give them another shot. I ordered a chicken tinga taco and, just like last time, my taco was ready in a flash. I definitely enjoyed this one the most, so far, of the three I have tried. Flavors were much more pronounced, with juicy chicken and a sauce with just the right amount of spice. Tacos are priced at $3.50 each and they are on the smaller side. In addition, they sell quesadillas, nachos, salads, and sliders. They normally have specials of the day. Personally, I do not feel inclined to try anything other than the tacos but I've heard the Korean BBQ sliders are pretty good so maybe on another day I see them around, I'll give those a shot. They keep their core menu pretty much the same so I can see myself trying out the remaining four taco flavors just to see if I end up liking any others.

Food trucks and tacos, enough said. I'm a huge fan of food trucks and I'm always happy to see Tin Kitchen at the foot truck Friday events. Who doesn't love tacos right? Luckily if you don't they have a wide variety of options like quesadillas for you who like to be extraordinary, but trust me when I tell you that these tacos are a must! I went ahead with one of their recommended tacos and got the chicken tinga. Omg! This is one my top tacos of all time. Never had it before, but it's now in the top. I was extra hungry so I got one of their quesadilla specials with chicken. I'm one of those extraordinary people who love things other than taco, but no worries I still love tacos. I love mixing these great tacos with my beer and enjoy having a nice conservation with the owners and chef of the food truck. Can't wait for the next Food Truck Friday to have another one of their delicious tacos.

So we came to "The Chamber" a Wooden Robot spin off and like the Wooden Robot but in it's own right "The Chamber is a cool place with a parking garage near by (Download the Parkmobile App in advance), the Light rail is seriously right at the back door and tto really top things off the THE TIN KITCHEN was parked right there in the backyard, ready for customers. The truck is very unassuming but the treasure that comes out of that truck is pretty amazing and flavorful. The wife had the salad with chicken, I ordered the Kim Chi Dilla and we had an order of Nachos and as always we shared the 3 items and they were all very good and of course with any items on the outside i am concerned with Whey in the flour products but I am happy to say "NO WHEY!" lol So for me I was happy on all fronts and so was the wife. If you see this truck out tooling around make sure you wave them down or if they are parked have some pretty tasty food and great customer service. The only downside is with any of these trucks is plastic ware, sauce cups etc. Did not bother the review score as it is the world we live in. So have some good food and enjoy.

Love that Noda brewing always has a tin kitchen food truck on site! The food is amazing, the staff is friendly and helpful and your food is served hot and in a timely manner. I've eaten from this food truck several times and have never been disappointed. They serve good sized portions and it's delicious. The menu isn't too diverse, but they can only keep so much on the truck so that's understandable. If you see one of the tin kitchen trucks anywhere, be sure to stop and get something, you won't be disappointed.

I had seen the TIN Kitchen rolling around Charlotte a bunch of times over the years and never gave it much of a thought or even knew what it served. That was a mistake....the food I had was A+. We ordered the chicken tinga & beef brisket tacos and then the chipotle chicken, pork al pastor and kids quesadillas with a side of ginger pickles. The tacos were great, but the quesadillas were the star of the show. The tortilla was buttery and crispy and the ingredients were tender and flavorful. If i were to come across this food truck again I would focus my efforts on the quesadillas. The only thing missing was a nice margarita. I typically don't like food trucks. They are usually over priced and overrated. And, it sucks eating food off a flimsy plate with a plastic fork while sitting on a curb of standing up....but, the TIN Kitchen would be my choice amongst the sea of trucks.

I'd like to first off forewarn everyone that the tortillas for the tacos are dripping in oil and crispy on the edges. If you can get past the oiliness, then continue reading... The food here looks, smells, and tastes delicious. I ordered the BBQ Beef Brisket Tacos which comes with 2 tacos and a choice of a side (I got the cilantro rice). I wasn't even hungry and downed the dish in nearly 5 minutes flat. Yes, the filling was that good. The brisket was tender and drenched in flavorful sauce. It was accompanied with a slaw and green onions. The tortillas were really oily and on a healthy day I would respond with only a face of disgust. But, at least it's crispy. For a better idea for the level of fry, it's like they dipped it in oil and tossed it on the flat top. It's half way between a soft and hard taco shell. The serving size is large for 2 tacos, but small for $8 (that's the price of gourmet!). I would love to try more dishes here (gotta chase down the food truck) but I can't quite make this a regular excursion.

OH MY GAHH!! If I lived in Charlotte, North Carolina I'd be stalking this food truck and this food every day. Had the pleasure of sampling the menu while TIN Kitchen parked out in front of NODA Brewing and yeah, I had seconds haha. Food trucks are pretty simple to review: it's basically the best bar food you could crave. They have nachos, tacos, quesadillas, sliders and it all sounds delicious! Peep them on social media to see where they are for the day and shell put some bills for great food!

I caught up with the TIN Kitchen this past Food Truck Friday. I got there early so there was no line. I also snagged a $7 for $10 Yelp deal to sweeten the pot! I opted for the daily special - crispy pork belly tacos over 30 minute kimchi w/ hoisin glaze ($10 two tacos and a side). I chose the pickled veggies for my side. I put my order in and hung out till my name was called. The pork belly was nicely cooked and crispy, as promised. I struggle to call the cabbage that was on the taco "kimchi"... I am Korean ya know... It wasn't spicy at all. It was really more of a lightly salted, pickled napa cabbage. Not at all what I expected, but it went well with the meat. Just don't call it kimchi... ok... cool. The hoisin gave the taco a nice sweet flavor that complemented the pork belly. I wasn't a huge fan of the pickled veggies - red & yellow bell peppers and lots of red onions. They were super vinegary but had a nice spicy finish. I would have liked the veggies better if there was a greater variety or just less onions. I'd definitely visit them again! read more

I love the variety and quality of food the Tin Kitchen offers. These aren't your average tacos! They have a couple of options for the vegetarian and vegan crowds (keep adding more, guys!) and plenty of choices for those of omnivorous leanings. I generally grab lunch at their McDowell St location and it's just the right portion to get me through the rest of the work day. Jack and Jimmy are always friendly, helpful and quick! My favorite was a charro bean and sweet potato hash special back in the fall and their marinated portabella mushroom is one of the best shrooms I've tried. The chow chow topping adds a nice zing to the veg tacos or salads. Definitely give them a try for lunch or catch them at one of the brewery stops for some tacos and a cold beer. Perfect! read more

Dear Tin Kitchen, oh how I love thee! Your Chicken Tinga Tacos are so good, I crave them throughout the week. My favorite are your beef brisket tacos but I have to be in the mood. My friends rave about your thai shrimp tacos (can't remember what they are really called). My only issue is you run out of good food too early on Friday nights at the FTF event. I guess that's how you start an addiction, yes?! Besides that, you are my favorite food truck out there (and I've eaten at many). read more

This food truck was gourmet on wheels! I tried their steak and shiitake taco and it was heavenly. From the people walking away with stacks of orders, I get the feeling that everything is delicious. It was the perfect pairing to the beers I grabbed from the local brewery and was well worth standing in the dusty parking lot for 20 minutes to get it! Tried a taco while they were at the South End Food Truck Lot on a recent Friday night. Tough decision but I went with a Smoked Salmon special taco that had avocado mousse and chipolte aioli and crispy onions. Hungry yet? I'm sad that I only had one. read more

Rookie Food Truck person! First off, they are so friendly when you walk up, you are completely at ease perusing the menu on the side of the truck and asking questions. Placing the order was easy-peasy. Hung around in parking lot trying to look I wasn't scoping the place out to hot wire the cars but that's not the Tin Kitchen's fault. It is was it is (thank you John Fox) - food was melt in your mouth delicious - braised beef tacos stuffed full of slaw and meat - wonderful combination of tart and spicy - but those pickled veggies were off the chart good - hint: order a drink to soften the heat from the veggies. Just had the last bite of my blackened tilapia taco with corn salsa and a side salad. Perfect amount for a lunch. My first time trying Tin and would definitely go back again. Haven't tried a bite here that wasn't amazing. Try the brisket, try the shrimp. Sides are bit smaller than I would like but I guess that is why they are called sides- I was just craving more beans! They also have rocking Yelp and Foursquare specials that make happening upon this truck all the more delicious. read more

I won't go overly long on this review, I think it's enough to say that these guys are just awesome. Every time I've eaten here, either at a Food Truck Friday or out in Uptown, they've delivered the goods. Fresh, flavorful and varied, they always surprise with their options. And they've had a few deals on Yelp, so keep your eye out to save a little, since it isn't really a cheap meal, but the ingredients are all well sourced and the guys obviously care about what their doing so I don't mind paying a little premium. Definitely one of the better lunch choices for the people on the north side up Uptown! It's located in front of the 525 N. Tryon building. I've eaten here several times and I've yet to be disappointed. If the tacos seem a bit small, opt for the chips & salsa side. It should be enough food to hold you over till dinnertime. I've moved office buildings recently but I don't mind taking a stroll to grab a couple tacos from this food truck. read more

I love The TIN Kitchen. The truck comes to my office building Tuesday's for lunch and it is one of the highlights of my week. It's not the cheapest food but its not expensive, especially for the quality. Everything on the menu is absolutely delicious, and I mean EVERYTHING. I normally get a quesadilla, 2 sides and a drink for $10. You can also get 3 tacos and a drink for $10 as well. read more

Four stars for the food and zero stars for the mean girl who takes your order. She is sweet if you know what you are doing but if you don't, expect a heavy level of condescension. She literally turned her head in disgust and had to pull her chair over to sit down to deal with a question about the menu. Very sorry for making your job so difficult. read more

This vendor was parked at NoDa Brewing and they always have good food trucks outside so I gave them a try. I had the carnitas and they were super bland and flavorless. Carnitas should never be dry. So I went back up to get some salsa to bring in a little more flavor and moisture, and they charged me 50 cents for salsa! That's an extreme ripoff. The tacos were already $3.50 and very small, so it's not like they couldn't afford to throw a little tiny container of salsa in. I would not go back to this food truck. read more

I saw this on triple D, I'll give it a shot another definitely fail for triple D, we had the cauliflower taco it was OK, the beef taco was cold and tasteless and chewy, the chicken tinga was dry and dull, i also don't understand why am I paying restaurant prices for something served in paper bowl and no service?????I wished it could have been better, 18th triple D disappointment read more

Ate here for the first time today and it was great! I ordered two tacos, one chala masala and the other chicken taza, both amazing! I can't wait to bring my husband when he comes home and other friends and family! I know they frequently park in front of Noda brewing co. so that will be fun! Can't wait to see the triple D episode! A great complement to NoDa beers! The pork belly tacos were the best of the three tacos I tried, although all of them were amazing! The pork belly was crispy, the glaze was amazing and they're very generous with portions! I also tried the chana masala tacos and the chicken tacos, which were very flavorful. I am definitely going to come back later to try their other offerings :D read more

I had them at a really busy time. As I stood in line I reviewed the menu and grew eager to try the food. I got the special of the day which was a scallop taco. the food came out fairly quickly considering how long the line was but it stillw wasnt quick enough for me given how cold it was. When I finally bit into my taco I was disappointed. You could barely tell there was scallops in there. There really wasnt a lot in the taco period. I also got the bean salsa that was pretty basic and kind of bland. Overall, a disapointment. read more

I have to say I've been waiting for the chance to try Tin Kitchen for about a month now. I feel like I have been chasing them all around the city and have never had the chance to catch them. Well, the chase is over, but the reward didn't live up to the hype. I had four different tacos and I thought they were all sub par. The tortilla was disgusting and the flavors just weren't there. Pretty disappointed. I am going to try Food Truck Fridays one more time before ruling it out. read more

Went to the TIN Kitchen food truck for some gourmet tacos and had a couple of the pork belly tacos and one of the bbq beef brisket tacos. I liked the pork belly tacos better but I thought they're a bit pricey for what you got at $3+/taco. Creative but just missing a little something to put them over the top. read more

It's always hard to make a decision at food truck Friday but Tin Kitchen has never disappointed me and I find myself choosing their truck the majority of the time. Really great quesadillas and the combo option is a great price for a large amount of food. The rotating salsas are always very good! You can't go wrong with this food truck! read more

This is a great good truck. Everything I've had has been good and I've eaten their food more than 30 times. I'm no vegetarian, So wouldn't normally try a veggie taco, but for an out of the box and out of this world treat, try a Buffalo Cauliflower Taco. Yep...cauliflower! It's not on the menu as a taco, but ask for it. You won't regret it. read more

History

Established in 2010.

As one of the original food trucks in Charlotte, we know what it takes to bring the best food on four wheels. Serving a unique blend of ingredients on tacos, sliders and quesadillas, our menu will always have something different and keep you coming back for more. Founded in 2010, Tin Kitchen was named after the color of the original truck, which is affectionately known as “Bessie.” Since serving our first taco over five years ago, we have grown quite a bit—adding two new trucks and expanding into catering, event rentals and upscale bartending. We still strive to bring our best to each and every guest, whether it be on your lunch break or at a black tie wedding. We love sharing our culinary creations and event expertise with the Queen City!

Meet the Business Owner: TIN K.

Owners' Bio David S. COO David is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, and studied business management at Clemson and sustainable entrepreneurship at UMASS Amherst. He has worked at upscale restaurants on both the east and west coasts, from Bethany's Table in Portland, Oregon to a handful of kitchens in both North and South Carolina. Stemming off of his experiences of being part of multiple restaurant-launch teams, David decided to take his talents private, and launch a food truck and catering company with his partner Nick. Nikolaus L. CEO Nick is a two-time graduate of Clemson University, holding a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and a Masters degree in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. Nick has founded and developed, multiple businesses throughout the Carolinas and Europe; among other things, he is responsible for long-term strategic development, operational logistics, and the finances for TIN.

I'm glad they let patrons know about the closure in advance unlike countless other restaurants that have closed suddenly in recent years.

If I come back here, I would definitely try a different type of menu item. But the restaurant gives very cutesy vibes!

These folks may not give you forks, but they know what they're doing! Service has always been friendly and helpful, despite how busy the line can get. The cubanos are amazing - I've gotten the original and also the BBQuban. The OG is super solid, but OMG that BBQ one is just delectable and a great texture. Trust me. Try it. They also have the best yucca fries I've probably ever had. My issue with most yucca fries is that the texture tends to be pretty tough, but these are so soft inside - like they mashed the yucca first and then formed the fries. I don't know what magic they use, but they're incredible, and you must get some. We also got a churro filled with dulce de leche, and it came out nice and hot with lots of cinnamon sugar coating. I didn't love the dulce de leche filling for some reason - maybe I got spoiled by spending time in Argentina - so next time I'll likely go for the regular churro.

Perfectly cooked, a little crispy on the outside, not dry, tender, slathered generously with amazing sauce. The Carolina Buffalo is a winner. Mustard-based bbq with a plethora of buffalo sauce thrown in. My taste buds were happy. Uhh...they need to make a Carolina Buffalo pizza. (No brainer, yeah?) The only thing that sank my happy sailing dinner experience was the pizza. A little lackluster and the sauce was a bit reminiscent of box pizza from the frozen section in the grocery store. Maybe our slices had been sitting out for a bit, but didn't have the freshest of textures. I did appreciate the crust and enjoyed sopping up the remainder of the wing sauce with them. I can't say that the pizza was banging on all cylinders or a culinary breakthrough, but is definitely reliable. The combo of wings and pizza in one meal from the street, though? Baller status.
