Wow, what an asshole this sawed-off runt was! I've visited the former location/kiosk on Westminster and Euclid in the past, and the person was very humble, very patient, very good, and very reasonably priced. The location has moved to a store on Century and Garden Grove Blvd now, and I needed a couple of keys cut to replace a worn key for a Toyota Camry (works in the ignition, but hit and miss in the door lock [used to work with no problems but is very worn]). I read some of the reviews here and from my past experience, I thought it was the same person I'd dealt with in the past. With the mask on, barely visible or audible through plexiglass; I don't know if this was the same person, or if their character had completely changed over the years; but this guy on Saturday 3/20/21 was a real jerk! I highly doubt this was the same man I dealt with before. Maybe his son or brother? At any rate, know that you may be dealing with this guy, a disrespectful jerk! Speaking in very broken English through a mask and way behind plexiglass, it was difficult to understand him, and I queried him about what he was saying. He made the job sound very difficult, and that his work would not last for very long??? He said to cut 2 regular (no electronics) keys, it would be $75, or $40 if I took the lock cylinder out of the car and brought it in! He became visibly impatient and then rude when I queried him about what the difficulty was he was trying to describe - and in fact never did describe! He obviously treats all customers this way, but as his tone and mannerisms became disrespectful, I straightened up from leaning over trying to hear him under the plexiglass (I'm a big guy), and in a very assertive tone told him to "cool it" - that he was hard to understand and not understandable. He immediately backed his tone down when he saw I wasn't going to take any bullshit from him; gave me the ridiculous prices, and I left. If the other person is still with this company, I feel badly for him because this ahole is going to drive a lot of business away with his arrogance. I'd recommend you give this locksmith a pass and try others! Or, if you don't mind being verbally abused, might be just you're cup of tea! read more

Had another Honda key break so I ordered a replacement on Amazon and took it here to get made. There were three other people in line ahead of us and only one person working, but he was so fast the wait wasn't long at all. We were in and out in no time. After looking for quotes all around Westminster and Garden Grove, Mr. Tin gave me the best price. I must've gotten quotes from 5 different locksmiths. Mr. Tin quoted me $65 for a spare Honda Civic key. Best price by far. He was done in 10 minutes. I also had him make me a spare house key which he didn't charge me for! (even though it only costs $1.75, it was very nice of him to do that). I'm not going to expect him to give out keys for free all the time, but it was a nice gesture from him. INITIAL COMMUNICATION: I called 17 locksmiths from around Orange County to replace my car key that I've lost until I called this business. At first when I called, the wireless quality on my phone was poor and I had to hang up the phone and give up, eventually handing the phone to a family member since they needed it as it's the only phone we have due to hard times with the COVID-19 situation. When I got my phone back, I saw that the owner called back three times. Responsible people do this, especially business owners who want to make sure they did the best they can to communicate back. Since the first call went so poorly, I was hesitant from calling back not knowing how the owner would respond so I continued my search elsewhere, cowardice on my part in frankness. That's when one of my family members recommended a locksmith they've been using for nearly 10 years, thus I ended my search because of the strength of word of mouth. AT LOCATION: Upon reaching the location, I found out via a sign on the little office saying that there was a new location. I appreciate that the effort was made to be a responsible business informing of the relocation so I felt a little more confident in the business despite never having done any business with it before. When I got to the new location, I met Tin for the first time. As we had a small conversation while the key was made, something began to become very clear very quickly. Tin asked enthusiastically if I was the one who called him earlier as someone called him about the same exact year/make/model of car for a key replacement. At first, I answered "no" because when I looked outside of the shop upon entering the phone number didn't match the one I called back then. A minute passed by until I realized I the number I actually called was on his business card on display which was his personal cell number, and the number outside the store is the one for the business itself. This man wasn't angry because he got hung up on my part, he was actually genuinely happy to see me even under the circumstances, and in this world we live in, character like that is very rare and forges long term business relationships. THE SERVICE: I was fortunate to have the original key to help make the valet key I needed, so I handed it to Tin. Although, it was only a valet key that doesn't have operational lock/unlock/trunk buttons like the original, it still is a transponder chipped key that takes time to produce. The key was made in nine minutes. I didn't expect the key to be made that quickly, and asked if there was an ATM I can quickly go to pay for the key. Fortunately, he accepts debit cards , but before I could pay he offered me to step out of the building unsupervised to perform a full functions test with it on the car. Setting aside that the key performed perfectly, what's more important is the trust he had in the customer before they even paid for the product and it deserves to be expressed. COST AND CONCLUSION: Under mutual agreement, it was agreed not to reveal how much was paid for the key. However, I do feel it's fair to share what the other businesses were quoting which was between $95 to $170. Call this man and get your quote for his product and service, I would have paid more than what the others quoted for just his service quality alone, the perfectly crafted key was priced where I cannot consider doing business elsewhere so long as this business exists. read more

I went to get a few house keys made and the service was super fast and had affordable prices!

Had them changed the locks for my business which cost nearly $200+, but the keys stopped working after 3 months, and one of the locks got the key stuck inside. Called them again for maintenance but they refused to fix and gave a stupid excuse that the guy who installed the locks for us quit, and that was not their responsibility anymore. My husband and I have been coming ​here for years for all of our locksmith needs. We don't live close by but chose to come to Tin Locksmiths because we get great attentive care all the times we have come before. I don't know what happened with their customer service...but this last time we came by will be our last. My husband brought by an auto key lock to be re-keyed to work with our vehicle. We were told it would cost us $30 to have it done...my husband wanted to make sure he heard correct and $30 dollars? The gentleman then tells my husband that he usually charges insurance companies $55 so we were getting a good deal. We decided since we had driven all the way down to Garden Grove, we would just leave the key lock with him. He told us that it would be done in a day or so and he would call when it was completed. He called two days later to let us know it was done. I was in the area for an appointment and stopped by to pick it up. I believe it was the owner's son that was there because he had called his dad to find out where our key lock was to give to us (he was on speakerphone). It was inside a bag with the price written on it which was $30...but told the son that it was $35. I asked the son after giving him the $35 that the owner requested: "Your dad said it was $30 and the bag says $30 so shouldn't it be $30?" His response was my dad said $35. We will be finding another locksmith after this. If you say one price you should honor that price. I don't know what happened to their happy service but you lost a loyal customer. read more

Went to Tin to get my Lexus car key shaped from replacement on Amazon. Told him for some reason my car would not unlock MANUALLY and only unlocks with remote key. He fixes it without CHARGE. Unheard of in these times. Highly recommend. Charged me 20 dollars to cutting new molding pattern of car key and 2 buck a piece to copy house keys. Writing this review for my uncle who is a long time customer living in OC but has zero clues about anything electronic or web related. He's been bugging me to give Tin a great review for all the times he's done key cutting work that would have cost him $120+ elsewhere for $20. This guy can really help you out. Personal experience: My dad lost his car keys and found a random key that could turn on the ignition but not open the door. He left his car unlocked at night so he could get back in the next day. I'm not living in OC so I looked up some locksmith services that quoted ~$120 to come to his location and another $160 to cut a key for him. My uncle told me he could just drive it to Tin and ask him to help. He arrived right before closing time that day and Tin was cool enough to help him even though he had dinner plans. It took less than 20 minutes for him to cut 2 new keys and papa saved a load of cash. Five stars for sure. read more

This place is extremely good. Went to Honda world to get an extra key for my Honda pilot 07. Took me 10 minutes to wait for service even though I was the only one there with 2 people working at the parts department. I guess it was ok to talk to your buddies in Spanish while customers waited. He was quite rude and said it was gonna cost me 65 for the key and 105 for programming. I asked if I could program it myself and he said "et ez a fifteen daosand dolla machine you need." I said I'll just buy the key and because I saw some directions online, I'll do it myself. He told me if I fried the new key, he's not liable and also it's not possible without their machine...... challenge accepted. So I went out and tried this whole programming thing and messed up my original key.... I guess you need a special machine if it's a new key. I didn't want to prove him right so I checked yelp and found tin. He told me it was possible for 50 dollars and it would take 10 minutes. I got to tin in about 10 minutes. He got the whole thing done in 5 minutes, and fixed my original key for 50 bucks. I guess tin owns the "fifteen daosand" dollar machine afterall. Great place fast service. read more

This guy definitely deserve more publicity. So I had a problem with an ignition switch on my little brothers car. It wouldn't disengage all teeth, so wasn't allowing me to key on or start the car! Thought I was f***ed!! Luckily I had my mechanic from Best Care Auto, Tom, recommend this guy to me. So I gave him a call and asked if he was able to work on it, he said just bring it in and it won't be a problem, so brought it to him, and he looked at it and said "I'll need an hour or less." So less than an hour passed and he gave me a call to let me know it's done and the switch work good as new and smooth! I'm very glad I was able to have him cause my little brother originally called a random search name "RS Locksmith" and MAN! Talk about a bullshitter and con ! He quoted him $50 dollars at first, then he took like 10 years when he said be there in 30 minutes. Then when he got there I guess that's when he knew he could attempt to squeeze more out of my bro and said "yea..... It looks like this May cost ALOT more.... John the locksmith is such a genuine honest guy! He's a Vietnamese young man that speaks English very well. He's located in a little hut in a shopping center. I had lost my master key with a remote (the kind that helps you click a button to open/lock your car and pop the trunk)for my 2011 Toyota Camry. After getting a rip off quote ($579 at Toyota Place in Garden Grove) I decided to look for other options. He is able to replace the key without a master key and reprogram it for a reasonable price. He's also fast too and did it all in 20 minutes. This is a guy I would definitely refer my friends and family to going forward. read more

I'll be coming back later this week to get a key done for my mom's car. They also do house calls. These guys can do everything. I own a car dealership and I use them to cut my keys. They've done some amazing things like, set and replace ignition cylinders for me, to cutting a programming chipped keys, to cutting some keys from scratch from some of my keys that were so worn and didn't even work anymore. Wow. I'm quite impress by how efficient and knowledgeable this guy is. I waited for no more than 10 minutes to get my keys done. If anything, it took longer for the credit card machine to boot up than making the keys LOL. I broke my keys trying to turn on the engine while the steering wheels were locked. I've gone to multiple places and they quoted me at $60 to get my keys cut and reprogrammed. This place quoted me $25?!?!? Been there 3 times. 2 out of the 3 times was pretty shitty experience. It was conveniently located but the guy doesn't know how to run a business or talk to customers. If I can give him negative 5 stars, I would. One very simple business practice yet this guy don't practice is never argue with your customers, as long as they are willing to pay for it, just give them what they want. I will not be back here even if it's the last key shop on earth, which we all know that there are plenty of shops around.
