WOW--the best place on the Big Island!! We have been trying local spots for breakfast all over, and there are a lot of nice places, but this one takes the cake! The atmosphere is sweet and friendly (there's live ukulele & singing!), the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful! We ordered the Turkey & bacon club, which was SO fresh and delicious, the everything bagel with cream cheese (also fresh and delicious), an iced chai (this is for people who like real chai--it's very spicy!), and a cup of the house-roast drip coffee with ice. WOW, the coffee was amazing, and this is coming from someone who doesn't like coffee!! It was light, full tasting, not burnt or bitter. We didn't even need sugar! We went and bought a whole bag of the beans to take home. We also went back after that to get two more sandwiches for later. And we came back the next morning for even more!! This place has instantly won us over with their kind service and delicious food. read more

I really want to like this place but I haven't had anything here that is so memorable that I need to go back. Bagels and Lox, Coffee, Sandwiches are what I've tried on a few visits. Bagels and Lox were good but spendy, I could make for much cheaper. The coffee is decent. The sandwiches are overpriced and full of lettuce. The Vegan cheese is a spread. Open air cafe with deliciously fresh "breakfasty food" and friendly staff. I highly recommend the scone to share and it paired perfectly with the cappuccino with oat milk. We were delighted to find this awesome open air bakery near air bnb. We had their veggie bagel/egg/cheese breakfast sandwich, bagel and cream cheese, pancake, and chunky monkey scone. All were delicious. We also had a latte and house coffee-both were served piping hot. They had very friendly staff and although they were very busy, our food was promptly served. This bakery had the most incredible fresh homemade gluten-free bread I've ever had, which was a huge surprise. I found the breakfast sandwiches as a whole to be bland (we tried two different kinds) & I was surprised at the toppings of raw, unseasoned onions/peppers on the breakfast sandwich. A little cooking & salt on those garnishes would've gone a long way. However, the bread & cake we ordered was honestly remarkable. The view, vibes & quality of fresh baked treats are worth a visit. Tip: ask for the homemade hot sauce, they don't advertise it but it's top notch! read more

I had the turkey and bacon sandwich here. I don't remember what kind of bread it was but it had a purple tint. The sandwich had sprouts and bell peppers on it which made it stand out a bit from what I expected - in a good way. I tried to eat healthy when I was on the island so I didn't try any of the pastry items. It's a very unique place to eat - it almost looks like it was a barn in a previous life. There is no door to enter, one side of the eating area is completely open and has a nice view of forest - you have to look past the parked cars, but it is still a very nice view. This doesn't have the greatest parking lot nor road to get to it. I wouldn't suggest coming here when it is raining hard. There were really big puddles when we were there and it wasn't raining at all. We were in a front wheel drive and it didn't have any issues with spinning tires. I didn't really notice ruts so there is likely rock under the grass, but I doubt we would have drove into the lot if it was raining when we arrived. We sat near the very edge which was picnic tables. I believe there were regular table and chairs further inside. This place has an interesting setup - they have a water bar sort of setup in the back where you can pick out a cup and have water for free - the big blue jugged water. They bring your food to you, but you get your own napkins and such on that bar. This place seems to pull quite a few regulars - and the locals eating here had that off grid vegan look to them - I'm pretty sure I was the fattest person in the place. The bakery is very animal friendly - a customer had a well mannered dog free roaming inside while we were there. After my sandwich arrived I sort of wished I hadn't pet that dog. This place is VERY rustic and I doubt it'd pass any health inspection locally where I live. If you are a germaphobe, this may set off your alarms. I didn't see anything that looked unclean, but many surfaces look difficult to sanitize easily. But this may be the most memorable place we ate on the entire island. The food tastes good and vegetables fresh and crisp. It was likely one of the healthiest meals I ate on the island. read more

Ordered a Mexican mocha which wasn't really that great (the ceyanne doesn't really go well with mocha). But I would go back to try their other coffees. Just picked a bad first cup to try! This place gets 2 stars because the cashier/barista was super nice. Otherwise, best believe I am not coming back. The set up is pretty surf town like, parking is small and half of it is coveres by high homeless. I was here for early breakfast hoping to not have to make my own coffee, so I am not sure if them homeless people leaves at some point. Matter fact, I dont even know if they are homeless I just know they were hella dirty and on something. Ew. The coffee was pretty good and they have alternative milk such as soy and hemp milk, so that is my second star. I got some small cinammon rolls and they were hard, I also was hesitant cause I saw little ants where the cinammon rolls are kept. Although I didnt see any crawling on the actual rolls so I took a chance. I mean is Hilo side, we get bugs so expect to encounter some at some point. Overall among the druggies, lack of parking and bad rolls I wont be going back. I could deal with bad parking and mediocre rolls but never with the druggies. read more

The BEST dirty chai ever! Overall this place has high quality yums- mostly homemade from scratch and they use organic flours for their breads and baked goods. The ambiance is alas, Pahoa. Always feels kind of dirty and a bit of riff riff folks hanging around but the food and drinks are delish so it's a regular stop for me. read more

I love stopping in for breakfast and tea when I'm in the area. We stopped in just after Christmas and Tin Shack was great as expected. The fully loaded breakfast bagel and the eggs benedict were delicious. Sadly, the new year has brought on changes to the menu. We were told its for "streamlining". The very popular eggs benedict is no gone with a loose suggestion that it might be a special on weekends in the future. And the breakfast bagel has been downgraded. The delicious bacon has been taken off and the kicker is that the price has been increased. Its just kinda so-so now. We'll probably think twice before going back to the Tin Shack :( read more

I was really excited to try this place and had been checking it out in Yelp for weeks. The cinnamon roll looked so amazing in the pictures and sadly it looked better than it tasted. It wasn't bad, but it was kind of hard and it wasn't anything special. I had a chai latte and it was really bad. It was super watery and flavor less and that was disappointing. Fortunately the probiotic salad was delicious! I would definitely return for this salad, one of the best salads I've had in my life! The cashew cheese was good and has inspired me to try and make my own. The inside of the bakery was smaller than expected. There are only a few tables and it was pretty busy when I visited on a Wednesday morning. read more
