This place has good service and great food. It's off the road a bit so we almost didn't see it at first and true to its name it's a legit tin shack. They were mildly busy and we had to wait almost 30 minutes for our food. They did have a sign saying this was the case and reading other reviews I also knew this might be the case so we were prepared to wait. Pretty awesome place. GF German Chocolate cake was pretty awesome. Lots of specialty items and java based drinks. Tin Shack Kambucha, breads, floats, milk shakes and smoothies. Literally in a tin shack which looks like it may have been in an old garage turned bakery. Filled with locals on laptops, eclectic young 'free' crowd that gives the town it's fantastic vibe. Sign up for songwriters and poets open mike for back in April but it wouldn't surprise me if it continues on. read more

What an exceptional experience in an unexpected place. This unassuming hole-in-the-wall serves all around delicious food and drink. First, I will say there were a couple surf bum type customers who all were doing their own thing and no one bothered us at all. The staff were very friendly and we felt very safe. FOOD: you must try their eggs Benedict; we tried multiple varieties and they were all amazing. The bacon versions were especially delicious. This little place was a little bit off the beaten track. It literally is a tin shack! The coffee and the food was so good we had to go back next day! Tin Shack Bakery is definitely a gem in Pahoa that you must stop at if you are anywhere close. There are tons of tantalizing bakery items and then great eggs Benedict's choices for breakfast which is served all day. The drink list is great with many options of the usuals and organic teas. I enjoyed the healthy vegan golden milk latte and my wife loved the chai latte. It feels like a place where you really can't go wrong on your order. Bacon quiche I definitely recommend as the egg was so moist with lots of veggies and the crust was nice and flaky. The Pesto Okinawan was also a fabulous choice cooked to perfection. You will want a piece of bread to soak up the pesto and sauce. . You will only wish your portions are bigger of everything! Also make sure to get a piece of carrot cake to go. read more

Went here for brunch before an afternoon tour. Ordered the bagel and lox, which came with your choice of bagel (plain, multigrain, jalapeño and cheddar, etc) and addition of capers (at an additional 50 cents). The bagel was good aside from it being rather greasy from, possibly, an over application of butter. For $10 there was not a lot of lox on the bagel, it was sliced pretty thick but there was only a single slice. In addition, the onion was sliced much too thick for this dish and nearly overpowered each bite, never mind that it was regular onion instead of red onion. We also ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel on (you guessed it) your choice of bagel. We went with multigrain, which was good except for the greasiness mentioned with the previous bagel. The egg seemed like it was mixed with something and not quite real egg, but that could just be me. Outside of this, the place wasn't bad. However, it seemed really rude that when an older gentleman asked for some marmalade he was condescendingly told by a staff member that it would be an additional 50 cents for a small pre-packaged thing of jam. Personally, I wouldn't go back. It was overpriced, rather greasy, the staff was relatively nice, but the majority of the clientele seemed too into their ideals of "sustained living" and "natural" for my particular taste. read more

Really tasty food. My husband and I went there every morning for breakfast during our 4 day stay in Pahoa. Would recommend the breakfast sandwich, loaded with veggies, on purple bread, and the open face veggie bagel with cream cheese and pesto. The cultured cashew cream cheese was excellent! I came here everyday that I stayed in Puna except the first day because I didn't know any better. Absolutely obsessed with the Okinawan Benedict. Got it everytime. The Why Knots are exactly that, "Why Not?" and the Bread Pudding 10/10. The service is absolutely phenomenal. This was my first time and I had heard different opinions from from friends so I decided I needed to check it out myself. Wow so very glad I did!! What a great little place in a great little town. Everyone was friendly and the gentleman at the counter went out of his way to explain what I was interested in and my options. What a great variety it was very hard to choose but I went with the Bacon, egg and Jalapeño cheese bagel sandwich. For a buck more they will add all the veggies and of course I did. I had just got off work and really wanted to get home so I got it to go. It was at the most 10 minutes and it was ready I thanked them and headed for home. When I got home and took it out of the I was speechless it looked amazingly delicious and made my mouth instantly start watering. After the first bite I don't remember anything until I reached my last bite and realized I had ate the thing! This sandwich was incredible and I can't wait to go back for another and probably try something else as well. I highly recommend this place you surely won't be disappointed! This place is cute and off the beaten path a bit, but worth the trip! They have quite the array of baked goodies to choose from. I got the Little boss which was the perfect portion of eggs covered in a creamy hollandaise, one piece of bacon and some fresh veggies. Perfectly balanced breakfast in my opinion. I also got the chai latte which was spicy and creamy and delicious, not too sweet which I like. My husband got the breakfast sandwich and the bread was a little charred but otherwise good. Walked in here for a coffee and treat after lunch. It was like walking in to the most hipster dive coffee shop you would find in Brooklyn but without the good smelling hipsters and with dirty actual smelly hippies. Ordered 2 coffees, which admittedly were decent, and a cookie and bread pudding. No forks for the bread pudding. The cookie was good...until I bit into a hair that was either baked in or trapped in their Saran Wrap wrapping. The cashier seemed really frazzled when the coffee ran out, and was kind of cold and rude (definitely not normal Hawaiian service I've found in my travels here). read more
